+ 2 moreDescription of Work: I purchased a garage door and the installation from Lowe's. I am giving the good grades to the installation dept and Apex Doors who is Lowe's sub for the installation. To go back to the purchase, though, DH and I spent time at Lowes looking at the display on a night when there was no one available in that section. We took home info and selected a door that should have been less than $700. I made a call to Lowe's to find out specifically when I could speak to someone that works in the millwork dept and order my door. I was told the names of the two gentlemen who would be on duty and what time to arrive to make sure they were not on their lunch break. When we arrived, and we had allowed an extra hour, no one was to be found. We asked for the two men by name. One had left for the night (2 hrs before we were told he would be off), and the other was at lunch. We told them we had confirmed we could speak to one of the men, and we needed to do that. About twenty minutes later, David came waddling out to the desk and acted very mad that we asked for him. We went to the display and showed him the door we wanted. Lo and behold, they no longer carried any of those doors. So we picked out a very similar door of another brand. David was very condescending, so no points there. The base price of the door was the same, but what we didn't realize is you pay extra for handles, springs, etc. Anyway, the price came right up to $1,000. NOT happy, but what do you do? My husband does not have the ability to install. They sent Apex out for measurements. The rep noticed that the rails went back into a dropped ceiling in our garage that had to be removed so that they could install. We tried for weeks to get someone to do this for less than $700 and we finally hired some neighbors and got it done. This is something Apex would not touch. I will say that the installion dept at Lowe's didn't bug us (it took weeks for us to get this done, due to life problems that would rival a bad country song), they just called when the door came in, let the contractor know we were having issues, etc. Of course, we had already paid up-front so they didn't have a problem. Apex very gracious to hold the door for us until we could get the garage ready. Once that was done, they were here within a couple of days. They were great to work with us, because with having to remove over half of our ceiling, we had to rent a pod to empty our garage into. The logistics were a nightmare, but all is well. Loved Apex, they were professional and punctual. We did have a problem with the lock right away and had to call them back almost as soon as they left because the installer had not tested that with us. A younger installer came back out to fix that and adjust the tightness. The only thing I didn't like was that he told my husband how the first installer is old school and should do things differently.Probably true, but a little off-putting. So Apex and installation dept - good, millwork dept - sucks. But that's what you get in a big box store for the most part.
