Finished Carpentry and Woodworking, Cabinet Making, Unfinished Carpentry,

About us

I HAVE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED MY BUSINESS UNTIL I RECOVER FROM LEFT HIP AND RIGHT KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY. I WILL BE RESUMING WORK AS SOON AS I AM PHYSICALLY ABLE TO DO SO, OFFERING THE SAME QUALITY WORKMANSHIP AS IN THE PAST. Finish Carpentry Services is committed to to delivering quality woodworking and personalized service to our customers. Our business was established in 1985, doing primarily interior trim work, but also designing, building & installing cabinets in custom homes ranging in size from 2500 to 13,000 square ft. In 2011 the recession made it necessary to lay off entire 4 man crew, and I registered with Angie's List with interior trim and cabinets remaining the specialty of the business, but also doing jobs in other categories of carpentry (see categories listed in our ad). Six consecutive Super Service Awards show our commitment to quality and service, which is the guarantee that we stand behind our work . Scroll through the image gallery to see pictures of our work and feel free to contact us and ask if your project is something we would handle. Consultation and design time is moderately priced, but free for first time customers. See additional savings in our coupon offer.

Mike is a rarity! We are so pleased we found and used Mike for our staircase remodel and echo all of the points made in prior Angie's List reviews. He is not rushed. He values craftsmanship, the details, and ensuring the project is completed the right way the first time. He is extremely thorough, professional and communicative. Imagine that! He is also extremely responsive and professional. While he admittedly doesn't move as fast as he used to, that was not a problem for us at all. We would rather have someone take their time and do the job the right way than work hurriedly. His pricing was fair and he is willing to do both small and large jobs. We will absolutely use him again for our finish carpentry needs.

Michael is a master craftsman and works extremely hard to get the job done correctly. He is very patient and doesn't take shortcuts and we were very satisfied with the finished project. He is a pleasure to have onsite and always had great communication with us. His price was fair and reasonable. I have already referred him to others and will continue to do so!

This could not have gone better! Mr. Siegrist is a true craftsman and consummate professional. From our first interaction, Michael did everything any homeowner would hope for. He is a communicator. He is punctual, hard-working, meticulous and a perfectionist. Despite it being a relatively small job he made us feel that we were his most important customer. I could not recommend Michael Siegrist more highly.

Finish Carpentry Services did a wonderful job with great attention to detail. Mr. Siegrist designed and built a mantel with Shaker style panel work. The pilasters below the mantel shelf have panels on three sides and a pair of short panels below the mantle shelf above the fire box. Above the mantle shelf is a large two layer panel with pilasters on the left and right directly above the pilasters below. The mantel has 2 ft. wide side walls with two Shaker style panels each. The top of the mantel is finished with a wood soffit to fit to the sloped ceiling and a decorative crown molding. A vacuum system was used to contain the dust while sanding. The quality, workmanship, and customer service is five stars! This project was our first project to use Finish Carpentry, and we would definitely use this company again for future projects and highly recommend to others.

Michael Siegrist is a remarkable craftsman. He was very easy to work with and explained in great detail the work that had to be done to get the result we desired. WE made an error in design that he was able to remedy after he had built and installed the over windows bookcase and computer cabinet. This was our fault and remarkably he was willing and fully able to make the modifications we requested. The project is complete and we are totally satisfied.

The project was a total success. He delivered what he promised and much more. He was on time and left my home clean everyday. His understanding and years of experience in the finishing carpentry profession is one of his greatest assets. He is easy going and polite, but what is equally as important, if not more important, is the fact that he gets the job done on time and right the first time. He is a woodworking magician. From a satisfied customer of Finish Carpentry Services.
Description of Work: I needed a custom made electrical panel box enclosure cabinet built and installed in my home. When I saw the quality of his work, I asked him to work on crown molding, base boards, and shoe molding and other interior finishing carpentry project.

Mike is very meticulous with his work; a true craftsman. Because of his extensive experience he was able to make good suggestions as to how to achieve the look we wanted. He has built relationships with various suppliers that ensure materials are delivered in a timely manner. Mike not only replaced the floor boards and stairs with top quality wood, but went the extra mile and added new stringers to bring everything up to code and ensure that the new steps and floor would not warp in the future. We are very happy with the results.

Michael Siegrist redid our back screened in deck with IPE wood. He also did other much needed repairs on the back deck. Additional repairs were only done after discussion and he always gave an accurate estimate of cost. He was meticulous and thorough. He made sure the job was done properly. He is punctual and kept me informed of his progress. If he couldn't be here to work, he always let us know. We have been very happy with his work and definitely will call him again in the future.

This man is horrible. Personally I think there is something wrong with him mentally. I’m shocked he has good ratings. Last February I was interviewing carpenters to build bookshelves and he came to my old house so I could show him what I wanted in my new house I was building. He went on and on how great he was and detailed. He was annoying. My gut told me something was not right with the guy. I then called him to follow up and he gave me some excuse about his back and it would take a long time, blah blah. FF to now. That house I was building fell through, so I started all over and closed on a new one end of December. I had a carpenter and unfortunately he has turned out to not show up. I will write a bad review on him too. So I started to look again. I did not remember this guy’s name. I saw this company and the name did not click until I heard his voice. I was nice and said I remembered him. He lives very close by and I said I could see him the next day. He said fine. This was around 10 am. Around 4:30 pm he has the nerve to call me and goes into this long story about how he hurt his back a few months ago and wasn’t sure how quickly he could do the job. I cut him off and said “ it’s fine, I found someone “ and hung up. I am shocked that Angie’s List has this guy on. He is old and I think he is going senile. Stay away from him.

Response from Finish Carpentry Services
It is difficult to know how to respond to such a review. First, I never did any work for this customer. When she contacted me I was in the 4th or 5th month of recovery after knee replacement surgery, but I returned to work after about 2 1/2 months after a brief rehab. I had a backlog of jobs and was working long days and as quickly as my knee would allow, trying to catch up. In hindsight, I probably should have referred this customer to another contractor. When I meet with a customer I give them as much information as possible in "laymen's terms" without overwhelming them with details. I want them to understand how their project will proceed, the costs involved, and the level of quality they may expect. I do not try to impress them with "trade language", and I do not brag about my work. By the time this customer contacted me the second time my knee had completely healed, but the month before she called me I had an unfortunate accident coming down off a step ladder, my only ladder mishap in 35 years. I landed on my elbow on a concrete floor and suffered a compound fracture. This customer did call me in the morning for her second project, but I failed to tell her about my elbow injury which was slowing my pace of work. I did not want a recurrence of the first experience with this customer, so I called her back to let her know that I was working at a slow pace and it would affect my ability to complete her job. Apparently she did not want to hear that, and she abruptly said she found someone else and hung up. I am sad how this all worked out, but I can only move forward and do my best to not have a repeat of this situation. I am just thankful that I am still able to work. I am not suffering "memory loss". I keep my appointments, have never not completed a job, and I respond to all customer requests for work, even if they are not related to my trade. I plan to continue providing quality workmanship as long as I am physically able.

Mike is, by far, the most absolutely professional contractor we have ever dealt with. Mike explained everything he was going to do in a step-by-step manner yet still did not come across as condescending. He advised us of the cost and I was actually surprised that it was much lower than I had anticipated. Mike got a B for punctuality because he missed one appointment, but he quickly realized what had happened and made it right. After having dealt with more than a handful of no-show contractors, it was refreshing to work with someone who not only recognized a problem but also corrected that problem right away. As for the work, we couldn't be happier. Mike is obviously a skilled craftsman. We needed a door jamb extension and a threshold for our front exterior door. Mike came by, took photos, notes, and pictures of our door. He was very attentive and patiently listened to me try to explain what was needed. After listening, Mike explained what needed to be done and that he would have to get back in touch with me with a quote. I figured he'd be like the other contractors I dealt with and that I wouldn't hear back from him, but true to his word, I heard back with the quote. Mike showed up exactly when he said he would and he got right to work. I wish I could be more technical with this review, but I don't know the first thing about woodworking. What I do know is that the front door looks fantastic now, and the threshold matches the oak floors we have. What makes me even happier is that Mike took some blocks of wood and created a doorstop for us so the doorknob wouldn't damage the wall. Little things like that are what separate honest craftsmen, people who truly care about the service they provide, from churn and burn contractors. It's quite obvious that Mike takes pride in his work, and he should. We will definitely get back in touch with Mike at Finish Carpentry Services if we are ever in the need of a carpenter again. We were very pleased with Mike's professionalism and we couldn't be happier with the results from his work. Thanks, Mike!

Michael does excellent work and takes pride in it. He was timely in getting the job done and exceptionally neat during the work and in his cleanup. His materials are excellent as is his workmanship with quality tools perfectly suited to the job. The resulting living room mantle, shown in the picture with this review, is distinctive and has drawn many exclamations of approval from our guests and we're delighted with the results ourselves. Michael could not have been more pleasant to work with in every phase of the project. The painting was done after he completed the finished carpentry work.
Description of Work: Michael was doing a project in a neighboring condo where we met him and appreciated the work he was doing there. We had a plain, stock living room mantle. Rather than replace it, we decided to add enhancing features and Michael agreed to do the job. He worked with us patiently, providing excellent ideas and sketches himself and he was receptive to our suggestions. It was a harmonious design process and the resulting work was a combination of ideas from all of us: new raised panels with surrounding molding, additional molding around existing panels and three purchased carved wooden onlays with shell motifs to create a Lowcountry theme. On a custom den mantle that was already installed, Michael suggested adding a strip of half-round molding to tie together similar molding on the vertical columns at each end. He was correct in that recommendation -- it enhanced the molding details on that mantle.

After contacting Mike he answered in less than a day. Mike came over looked at designed and most important, "He Listened To What We Wanted." Over the next week he bid on the job and was the fastest to respond and was very reasonable. He started the next day building at his location and then moved materials over to install and build. It was done in about 7 days. He is pays very close to details and thought of things we did not. He is very meticulous and measured things out to a "T". The proof of his work is the TV fits perfectly as you can see in the pictures! Simply amazing job!!! Keep in mind painting is not included but he was helpful in facilitating a few quotes for painting. The bids for painting was very high and we opted to paint ourselves and it was worth it. Over all the initial pricing was lower the than the final cost but honestly the work that went into the build was more than we thought. I can see how you can get into a job and realized, wow there is more to it than I thought. We appreciated the hard work and craftsmanship. This will last for many many generations! Thanks Mike! Great guy and an amazing carpenter!!!!
Description of Work: We had a large square hole over the fireplace made for large tube TV and would not accommodate larger flat screen TV. area was bare and blah. previous owners covered the hole with a large painting. problem is the cable outlet was in the hole. The idea was to initially fill the whole in and make it flat by trimming a piece of sheet rock but it was difficult due to cable and power outlet. After consulting we drew plans for shelves and a build in to handle a 70 inch flat screen.

I thought this would be a quick and easy job, but old houses being what they are, it took two full days. Michael stuck to his original estimate, which was more than fair, and worked until the door hung perfectly straight and closed exactly right. He left the door sanded and primed, ready for paint, and cleaned up after himself. Very professional in everything he did.
