I could go on forever about this experience but since its been a couple years now I have forgiven/forgotten some details. From beginning to end the people at America's Home Place (AHP) were very professional. I feel like they went above what was expected to attract our business. Once I signed on the line that ended. In their defense, they were building several more homes at that time than they normally due. I feel as though I was the general contractor and have no doubt that if it were not for my hard work nearly everyday my house would not have been built nearly as well. Many of the problems could have been avoided or corrected if the general contractor (Anthony) would have been on site more and possesed the level of knowledge/experience neccesary to build a home. I did get a lot of house for the money but I never wanted to sacrifice quality. Oh...and it did take twice as long as they originally said. So here is a short list of some of the errors: Foundation 2 feet off, Foundation 6inches too short, piers not properly built, hurricane straps not done correctly, not enough foundation vents, (basically, foundation crew must have been middle school drop outs) --- framing went ok just one window built one foot too high and had to be corrected later(this is one of those things Anthony should have caught/corrected, but it was not addressed until I insisted it be corrected ----- all utility connections for appliances were located without measuring meaning drywall later had to be cut up to move them from behind kitchen cabinets etc. , Oak staircase selected in show room for an additional charge of $1900.00 was not the one that was installed. Windows are all single pane not double pane, kitchen cabinets had to be removed and replaced with the correct ones and the leveled by me on shims rather than on the various peices of debris that the cabinet guys found to use, Another lenghthy argument was neccesary to convince them to place an electrical outlet near the TV outlet in the living room...yes I'm serious, of course they used the bedrooms arc fault circuit for this, not a big deal you say, well it appears to be overloaded cuz again tonight when we used the microwave it trips that circuit...and of course this kills the alarm clocks, **incompitence/cost cutting can be frustrating for years to come, Got into verbal confrontation with HVAC company owner, testing showed 40% of 1st floor AC blowing thru vents in dining room, this was later addressed. I realize my punctuation is not perfect...I'm trying to hurry. I think this is enough to make you understand what I dealt with. AHP can probably build you a cheap vinyl sided home, but if you are looking for a nice well built home I would look somewhere else. Oh and don't ever use the bank they suggest cuz then they control the money.
