MBG Construction Company

We had "1,000 year rains" the first week of October, 2015 in South Carolina - the most rain ever recorded in a 4 day period in our area - and my roof developed many leaks. Friends nailed 5 huge tarps to my roof to stop the leaking, but it took my insurance company another 4.5 weeks to tell me they weren't going to cover any of the damage. Then a local roofing company did not follow through as promised with providing me with an estimate. So 6 weeks had passed by the time I bought the $6,500 MBG Construction Company Angie's List coupon. I was desperate at this point to get a new roof as quickly as possible. MBG contacted me the very next day after I bought the coupon, but unfortunately they said they weren't scheduling appointments until the first week of January; the extensive area covered by our torrential rains meant huge backlogs for all types of construction-oriented businesses. I explained the nature of my situation to Susan at MBG and, for the next 10 days, she tried her best to get someone from their company out to look at my house to at least survey the extent of my roofing needs in order to determine if they might be able to squeeze me into their already full schedule. Unfortunately, they were not able to do so, but Susan stayed in touch with me throughout those 10 or so days, even after normal business hours, which I very much appreciated. And, best of all, when it became apparent that MBG would not be able to meet my needs, she and her company immediately agreed that I deserved a refund from Angie's List so that I could be free to find someone else to perform the job in a more timely fashion. I was impressed with Susan's professionalism and would definitely consider MBG for future construction-related needs.

We were very satisfied with him. He is just good. I think he is honest. I would highly recommend him.

- Excellent workmanship. They worked on my roof just as if it were their's. - Committment. Did what they said they would do when they said they would do it. - Now: House looks brand new (well almost) but the roof is a focal point instead of an eye sore. - Nails: I havent seen one on the ground after a week. MBG cleaned up the work area as well as I would. The not so good? They are roofing experts. I would allow MBG to do other types of work on my property however they are roofing experts and now I have a new roof. If they expand their offerings, i would hire them in a minute! I would highly recommend MBG and appreciate the time spent educating me and improving my home. Thanks, John

During the deluge of rain in October, a leak developed in a bedroom ceiling. I contacted MBG and they were very prompt in scheduling an appointment to make repairs. David, the owner and several of his crew, came and assessed the problem. David was able to establish where the leak was coming from and made the necessary repairs. The ceiling has been leak free ever since. His crew also removed pine straw from the roof and cleared some clogged places on my gutters.David was great to deal with. He was friendly, professional and gave me good advice on how to maintain my roof. I had a lot of questions regarding a new roof since mine is now 16 years old. David answered all my questions in way that I could clearly understand. When it's time to replace my roof, I will definitely be getting an estimate from David. It was a real pleasure doing business with him.

They did a fantastic job! We just bought this house in April and have had leaking into the sunroom almost from the beginning. We called MBG out to check the roof--my first impression of David was that he wanted to make sure the job was done right the first time. David and his crew came out just a few days ago to do the work-we watched them work and could tell they were putting a lot of effort into making sure everything was installed properly. They were professional, hard-working, and did an amazing job! When the work was done, they cleaned up the work area so well that it looked better than when they had arrived. The first rain in a couple of weeks fell a few days after they left, and we have zero leaks--and I can finally sleep through the night again when it is raining! Peace of mind is priceless. I would have David come back to do any roof work I might need in the future--I've just moved to Columbia, but if I knew 500 people I would recommend him to every single person. I had a roof start leaking before the big rain event. Called for a quote. Someone came before it rained and placed a tarp over the damaged spot and gave me a quote. I called and we set an appointment, they arrived and completed the work and removed the debris as promised.

I hired MBG Construction based on their great reviews on Angie's List. There were some positive aspects of the project, but also negative aspects. I wrote a lengthy, honest review about my experience here on AL, which was based on facts such as: 50 roofing tacks were left in our grassy driveway, roofing debris and pallets left in our yard, a large gap was left between the drip edge and molding on the porch, our original 140+ year old shingle molding was removed without permission and broken, drip edge was missing from the back, etc. I requested that MBG come back and fix these items. They fixed almost all of the items immediately but in my opinion they did not do a good job of concealing a large gap they had opened up by removing some metal flashing on the porch. We eventually had a building inspector mediate in order to agree on a way to get the metal flashing on the porch completed satisfactorily. The roof looks nice and does not appear to leak anymore during normal rain events. However, I did not appreciate the effort required to get the follow up work completed. After I posted my review two days ago (Sunday) I have received two emails from MBG. They threatened to sue me for defamation if I did not remove my review here on AL by noon Wednesday. I have removed it because I have better things to do with my time than argue with this company, but the shortened version above is a fair sampling of my initial review, minus some of the items that will require us to agree to disagree. I have also dropped their rating from a generous C to an F due to these emails. In my opinion, honest feedback is an opportunity to improve a company, not a tool to censor paying customers.

They were very professional and the Project manager was very easy to get in contact with before, during and after the job was completed.

David and his team were very professional. Showed up when scheduled, Did the job with the highest level of quality. Also on time and on budget. Pleasure to work with David, Susan and team.

We have a skylight that has junk (mold, maybe) in between the glass. He just told me it would have to be replaced. Didn't offer to apply my $89 to that replacement, which I thought was part of the deal. Didn't seem too interested in discussing our options. Checked another large skylight for leaking and said was good. It has been leaking since. Don't feel like it was money well spent.

I would like to commend this company. Kevin White checked out the fan the following day searched and found the correct replacement and was out this morning to install it. Communication was great, time service exceptional and very professional. The price included the fan.

Kevin White, MBG Construction was scheduled to come and look at my roof and provide an estimate to repair some broken shingles. He called and wanted to know if he could come a little bit early (how often does that happen?!). He came, looked at the roof and commented that the roofer (David) was about 10 minutes away and would I be interested in having him look at it and maybe fixing the broken shingles right now (heck yeah). And because I connected with MBG via Angie's list membership, I could take advantage of their maintenance package at the same time - This just keeps getting better! David and his helping hand came over and not only fixed the broken shingles, but inspected it, resealed around pipes and the chimney, and battened down a few hatches in no time. They were all very friendly, pleasant and more importantly, honest. I can't tell you how happy I am with the work, the timing, the pleasant attitudes, the clean up, just everything. Beyond that I am so relieved to have the roof fixed and so happy to get some smart advice on what to expect going forward and how much time I probably have to save up for a new roof. I will definitely use these guys going forward for all my homeowner needs.....I wonder if they do windows:) Thanks, your the best!

We could not be more pleased with David and the work performed. We purchased our home in November and inherited a leak with it. I contacted another company at the start of the year who gave us a significantly higher estimate and suggested other costly repairs. Upon trying to understand the costs and reasons for work, the owner of the other company was condescending and agitated. Therefore, my search for a contractor continued on and I was clueless where to turn with so many companies to choose from. I called one other Angies List company, but when my voicemail went unreturned for 24 hours, I contacted MBG. My voicemail was promptly returned by MBG, and an appointment was set up. David arrived on time and gave me 2 estimates for work and said he would determine which way we needed to go once they got into it. Both prices were reasonable, so I booked him for the work. The day of repairs, he ended up going with the lower estimate, and sealed the vent pipes on the roof as a complementary service. David was friendly and professional and he was willing to take the time to explain the problems and solutions. Since the repairs were completed, it has rained about 5 times and we have not seen any water leaking into the home. I will absolutely contact MBG again should we have anymore concerns and for roof maintenance. Thank you for your honesty and integrity, certainly a great way to secure long time business and customer referrals :-)

This is a rental property which had a leak on the side porch. I spoke with Susan at MGB to see if someone could look at the situation. From the very beginning, until the completion of the work, both Susan and David responded quickly and informatively to my many questions They could not have been more friendly, accommodating and professional in taking care of my roof problem. Since I live six and half hours away and could not be up on the roof, they went way above and beyond the norm by taking and emailing me many pictures of the work before, during and after it was done. I really appreciated that extra touch. David also gave me some tips on preventive maintenance for the roof. They could not have been more prompt and helpful. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Susan , David and the crew were amazing. My mother lives in Newberry County . They were very efficient, professional and accommodating. Everyone in the neighborhood have stopped and asked who did the roofing? Also, removed chimney. Thank you for making her dream come true. One less thing for her to worry about.

While the owner was on site we discussed the project at length. The project was to open up an attic space for storage. There were several options discussed of what could be done. One option was to cut into the roof to add a dormer but this option was not the initial intent for the project. The owner mentioned adding a roof replacement to the work if we needed it. I agreed that it was going to need it in the near future and he could wrap it into the bid for the dormer. He agreed to provide bids for both big project (dormer and roof) and the smaller (initial intent). I received a bid for just the roof and dormer. I asked for the other bid and didn't get a response for 2 weeks then followed up again. I received another bid which included a roof replacement only. Very disappointed for such good ratings.

They were always good about calling. The fixing of our roof canceled because of the rain and they were very good about the scheduling. Always on time. They let me know when they coming. They were very good about just getting the work done. They clean up the things.

The best!!! From our first contact to the final cleanup, this was the best experience we ever had with a company and we had a great couple of remodeling jobs done over the past 10 years. The work was totally professional, but the entire company was extremely friendly. Everything was done to our complete satisfaction. We had a small change order that was needed because of some chimney reinforcement and it was handled perfectly ---explained, quoted, agreed upon and executed. The end result was a new roof that looks great. This company takes that extra step that we would all want taken by companies doing work for us. If you need a roof repair or replacement, this is the company you want to use.

They showed up on time, were very professional and seemed to know what they were doing. David, the owner, inspected the roof and re-sealed all the pipe boots, cleared some debris from a gutter from a recent storm and then fixed a leak which I had pointed out. He had to pull up some shingles, re-nail the sheathing, re-install the shingles and seal the joint where the shingles had been improperly installed about 8 years ago. He explained what he had done in detail and showed me how and why the leak occurred. They did this all in less than an hour. I am very pleased with the service and would definitely recommend them and use them again.

It was fine. They ended up not doing the entire project. They came out within a week. They were fine. We just didn’t do the project.

Susan responded right away when I called and David came by to give me a quote. We struggled with the weather but were finally able to complete everything in one day. The job looks great and the area was cleaned up and left the way they found it. Everyone was very nice and respectful, I would highly recommend them.

I had purchased a big deal. We were happy with them, they did good work. There was some additional charge. We weren't sure how much work we needed when we purchased the big deal, we just knew there was a lot of wood repair.

The customer service aspect of our experience was good overall and as a consumer, not understanding construction, my wife and I may have over anticipated the ability to easily identify a leak in our roof. This caused us to initially provide an unacceptable review. After the review, I was contacted by the provider and feel there was a misunderstanding from our perspective.
