Upstate Helpers

Upstate Helpers constructed, wired and roofed a beautiful enclosed deck. Their craftmanship, efficiency and expertise exceeded our expectations. The owner/contractor contacted us consistently throughout the build to inform us of material needs, crew management and cost estimates. His crew(s) were very knowledgeable and professional. Many of their ideas were incorporated during the build to improve the appearance and quality of the finished product. Overall, we will hire Upstate Helpers for future projects. I have recommended this company to neighbors and coworkers, who were impressed with their work both in person and via picture reviews. I feel confident knowing that their work is warrantied and that they care about the customer.

Upstate Helpers was wonderful! Mr. Mark came out immediately to discuss the job and was very professional and detailed. The work started immediately and was done quickly. I've never seen such attention to detail. I am so happy with the work they did.

Complete deck rebuild and resided the house. They did a nice job. We have received numerous compliments from the community. The crew was very polite and knowledgeable. On time, reliable , and answered our questions.

All did not go well! We have built 5 houses over the years and worked with contractors for hurricane repairs. Never have I worked with a more unscrupulous company. The carpentry crew was very good and in fact all his workers were very nice. The owner just kept upping costs and refused to do some work. And I didn’t appreciate being called a liar which is what he was. I had to ask him to leave my property.

Overall the work has not been completed and what has been completed has been mostly a mess. We are going to have to have someone else to come in and redo the things that Upstate Helpers was paid to do. He has made me be afraid of being at my house alone. He has slammed my door so hard because he got mad at his helpers, he broke parts off my door. He took my keys to my outside buildings home with him before and not shown up at my house for a few weeks. I called him wanting to know where my keys were because I needed to get in one of the buildings, he said he had them. He said he would walk me into breaking into it. Because he has broken into it before.

Upstate Helpers was supposed to build a deck and pour a concrete slab for us. I actually love the deck even though it took forever to get it completed. It took over a year to get the concrete slab poured and Terrance said he would be out to remove the wood planks around it but so far, no see. He also said they would come out and stain the wood beneath the deck but that was a no show also. They started the job in June of 2022 and a year and a half later, still unfinished. I think I’ve given them enough time to complete this job so I give up trying to get them back out here. I haven’t asked for anything except for this job to be completed. I would definitely not recommend them to any of my friends. I feel like I’ve been scammed! Update as of 12/4/2023 Since I cannot rebuke Terrance’s comment, I have to make another review. My husbands death and our “arguing” had nothing at all to do with getting this job done. Every time I called him, he had some crazy excuse about being in the hospital or his wife was in the hospital. It had been over a year so there was no excuse. I trusted him enough to tell him how my husband died, and he has the audacity to post it online. He is a joke. His wife NEVER came to give “condolences”, she came to collect more money. And the men didn’t “forget” to remove the planks. He told me he would be out to remove them himself. Haven’t seen or heard from him since. By the way, my husband’s name is Bob, not Bill. Your father may have started this business, but you are destroying it with your lies. He also claimed his two sons were killed in Detroit. Truth or not? Who knows? (The amount was $30,000. My bad.)

I'm not sure where I should begin with this review but I will begin with the pros of the recent job that your Foreman semi completed at my residence: Pros: The extension and the repair of the deck looks great, although it is shorter than what we originally discussed. The professionalism of the foreman was great. Although they started the project two weeks earlier than the contract, they were onsite daily and in a timely manner. CONS: $1500.00 attempted upcharge for a forty minute job that only added two hours of down time. ( trip to hardware store, phone purchase, and return back to jobsite equated to two hours for completion). Sub-contractor onsite using derogatory language either to homeowner or foreman. (Captured on video) Unfinished job, BUT PAID IN FULL. Unacceptable. Over $400.00 in over purchased materials, that the homeowner must take back to get reimbursed. It has been a week since last communication regarding completing an unfinished job, and now radio silence. At this juncture we will now have to hire another contractor to complete the unfinished job by Upstate Helpers. As I stated earlier, the work it self would receive an OK rating, because of the workmanship from the foreman, but he professionalisim is what brought the overall rating to below average. ****Please do not waste your time on contacting me either by phone or email to make this wrong a right!! Good news is they built a deck for me. Bad news, they charged me an extra $2400 after it was completed. There was nothing in the contract about the extra charge. Also bad, was it took them longer than expected to come start the work. Finally, the finish was not as good as expected or promised.

He came into my girlfriend's job and my girlfriend end up getting a card from him so I call him. I meet up with Terrance we do the initial interview he hires me starting at $18 an hour. Works me 2 days and tells me that he hasn't had a chance to see my skill trade and wants to drop me down to 15. Mind you I done quit my other job so I'm like okay I'll I'll work for the 15th. He hasn't is this phone call he hasn't answered my calls he hasn't answered my text how am I supposed to provide for my family how am I supposed to take care of my family without any work this man is a clown he don't know half of what he's doing this has got to be the worst person I've ever ever worked for

Mr. Mark had me sign a contract for services and updated it when we added to the job but continued to try and meet the deadline he set up. We did not, but it was due to awaiting for materials to be shipped in. UH has no control over that. Colt and Steve stayed busy with job until materials arrived. Due to house being old, there were some issue that Colt ran into, but was great at working them out. Mr. Mark was always readily available and made several onsite visits to check progress of job and to see if me and my wife were happy with the progress. Mr. Mark and Colt readily listened to input and strived to make me happy with then end project. Always on time, very respectful and tried to keep site as cleaned as possible.

We hired upstate helpers to remodel an older trailer for my mother and grandmother. They were able to start right away and even helped us move my mothers furniture because we didn’t have anyone to help. They have done a wonderful job and our super friendly and are very caring about their work and what they do. They want you to be happy with everything they do and we have been! They ran into several issues due to it being a very older mobile home and always tried to find the best deal to fix it. We have been very happy with their services and would recommend them to anyone!

Darlanda is an excellent professional. She performed all duties as expected. She very punctual and thorough. It’s very easy to communicate with her and her husband. I highly recommend this company. I am looking forward to working with them. Thank you, Z

It took longer then expected due to weather and they thought they could reuse some of the existing wood, when it turned out they could not, so there was a small delay in that issue because they had to order new wood replacing the entire deck structure. They were trying to save me some money by reusing some of the wood. They showed up on time and were very respectful. They kept me informed each step of the way. If the owner was not onsite, one of his guys knew what was going on also with each step. The owner answered all my questions completely and everyone remained professional throughout the entire process. They also spread pine straw for me and trimmed my trees. They place looks so much better now. Thank you Terrance Mark!

In a word, "Lifesaver". Upstate Helpers managed to take our kids house from a cute house to an elegant home with a priceless view. Their work ethic is amazing. On time every time and the quality of the work is second to none. One thing to note is that the communication was constant and that was key to success due to the huge job of this renovation. But I also must mention that Upstate Helpers treated me like family, not a paycheck. Their professionalism and pride in their workmanship is plenty reason to recommend them, but we also got a more than fair price for the work. Quite amazing! Sincere Thanks!

They listened to everything that I had to say, made structural suggestions to try and improve my project. I was always able to get in touch with them, they let me know when they were coming and it was nice that they knew exactly what they needed to do that I didn't know anything about.

They've done everything from my roof to floors, I was able to trust him during the moving process, he did an excellent job, very trustworthy, he's a good communicator and let's you know every step of the way, he's a perfectionist, they are very hardworking and they wont stop until they provide a good customer experience. I will highly recommend them to others

We are in the final stages of a complete deck rebuild. Mr. Mark has regular suppliers for all the product needed. They were easy to work with and he made sure supplies were delivered on time. My deck sizes has been quadrupled. We have an amazing Gazebo! It is five levels all functional for different things. If an issue was found it was fixed. When building Mr. Mark looked towards the future as what our needs might be needed. Even the leveling out of my yard to protect future water flow that would ruin the wood. I am so excited to see the final steps.

Upstate Helpers is great! I would recommend them to anyone I know because they do good work, and the entire process has been up front with me, no nonsense, and that's the way I like it! Terrence is doing many projects for us and is extremely easy to get ahold of despite how many projects they have going on.

In the beginning of my experience with Mr. Mark I felt comfortable with him performing the work we agreed on which was replacing wood on my dock. The price quoted was $1,250.00 plus material. He specifically told me he would provide me with all the receipts for the materials. I agreed. I paid him payments of $250. $675. and $1,100. He said the job was complete so I requested copies of the materials receipts. He later that evening sent me a photo of a paid receipt, hand written if the materials from a forged blank invoice from a supplier that was not the supplier he previously told me he purchased the materials. He originally told he purchased all the materials at Lowe’s. I had calculated what the materials should have been and they were much less than what he was Trying to falsify to buffer his profit higher. I demanded that he make it right and he gave me a rebate of $200.00 He is dishonest. It would have been fine but when I went to inspect the work, he didn’t replace all the underlying wood on my gangwalk he said he did. Then he refused to go back and stain the wood he installed which was originally agreed. He is dishonest and when I complained to his wife who he described as the actual owner she sided with him and refused to address my complaints. Therefore I would not recommend them for any work. They failed to complete the job and comply with what they initially agreed!!!

The workers arrived on time the scheduled date of service and worked hard all day. I noticed the inside of the gutters hadn’t been washed and Terrance responded immediately by sending 2 workers back the next day to thoroughly clean the inside of the gutters. I was very pleased with the thorough job and responsiveness.

None of the contractors contacted me with a price to do my work

NO GOOD!!! It took multiple calls and emails just to get in touch with him. Finally set an appointment to meet for quotes, but he never showed up and didn't answer when I called. He called me back days later, NO EXPLANATION, and asked for another chance. He set a second appointment for quotes and STILL didn't show up. Do NOT do business with these people!!!!

Upstate Helpers (UH) did several jobs for me. These included: Storm Door Installation, Replacing Front Door, Pressure Washing, Yard Work, Sod Replacement and General Repairs. UH did a great job on everything. Kept me informed about the progress and any issues that needed my attention. They finished on time and on budget. There were no surprises. I would highly recommend UH. If I need anything done in the future, I will hire them again.

I was very pleased with their work and they kept me informed through out the process of removing multiple trees also when they were rebuilding my Dock they took pictures through the process to keep me updated with how they preformed the work. I was very pleased with the end results. Terrance the owner did exactly what he said he would do and that is hard to find these days. I will use them again they have a wide skill set for multiple projects around the House and the yard.

They did a really good job and we are hoping to use them twice a year now. We would highly recommend them to anyone.
