+ 0 moreI would void these guys like the plague. The original estimate for their "Ice Defense" system was # 3700 and I was told I needed to figure a couple of hundred dollars additional to have their electrician connect the wiring. After the install, I come to find out that their electrician actually wanted over $ 5000 to do the wiring. That's right FIVE THOUSAND ! After a months worth of e-mails and calls back and forth they finally hooked me up with a different electrician that said he got calls like these from a lot of their customers and the cheapest he could do it for was THREE THOUSAND. More calls and more e-mails and they finally agree to split the cost (to avoid small claims court), and the units are finally wired up. Of course by now the first winter is over so I never actually turn them on until the following winter. When I finally do get to use them, my first electric bill is almost $300 higher than any previous bill ever. Contacted them about that and never heard back. Just had them on this winter for ONE DAY during the last storm and my bill is almost $150 dollars higher than the previous month ... FOR ONE DAYS USE. A complete and total waste of time and money.

Description of Work: Moonworks replaced my Gutter Helmet because the finish had faded on some of the product. They replaced all of my Gutter Helmet under the lifetime guarantee, even though much of the product was still good.

+ -1 moreFirst contacted Moonworks for an estimate on installing the Gutter Helmet product on our home. This was based on recommendations from both some friends and our neighbor. The sales / information call was scheduled promptly by the office staff. Our salesperson Emil called on the scheduled day to say he was running a bit late for our appointment and would be about a half hour late. He arrived at the time he said he would and spent considerable time explaining the benefits of this product and compared it to other options, most of which I had tried before with limited success. It was not a high pressure sell and he did the measurements of our house carefully and produced an estimate that would be good for 30 days. We decided to go with the product and had Emil write up the contract. We specified that there was a period that we would be out of the country and he said that would not be a problem and would inform the scheduling person. The job was scheduled for 8/26 as agreed. The technicians arrived on time that day as promised to do the work. They were both pleasant and very professional about doing the job. They worked steadily throughout the day until the job was completed and cleaned up any debris that was left from the old gutter screens, etc. They readily answered any questions that I had, again explained the warranty for the product, and the end result looks excellent. We have not had any heavy rains as yet, but I am certain the product will perform as advertised. I am very satisfied with my experiences with this company and would recommend it to anyone interested in this type of work.

+ -1 moreVery poorly. I had to chase Moon Works with numerous calls. The only scheduled visit that was on time was the visit with the salesman, Mr. Iannucci. Please read on. I contacted Gutter Helmet and referred me to Moonworks as the installer. I scheduled an appointment with their salesman Emil Iannucci and agreed to the work and price. Signed contract at end of April 2015. Mr. Iannucci stated about 4-8 weeks. After 8 weeks I tried to contact him via phone and email, no response, several attempts. I called Moonworks several times and finally got an installation date. They installed/repaired gutters, all but the electrical (hidden heat wire hook-up). I was told that the electrician would call me within two weeks to finish. I again, after two weeks called Moonworks and they could not get in touch with their service department, same as earlier. Waited for a call back. I received a call after they called me in error, looking for someone else! I was in the middle of writing a complaint letter to the BBB at that time and told them. They scheduled the electrician for July 23rd. On the 23rd a NO-SHOW! I called them and they had rescheduled for August 4th without the courtesy of a call telling me so. Finally, it was completed per the electrician on August 4th. It took from April 23rd to August 4th for a job that took one to two days. No communications between their departments, no return calls and expect to chase them via phone. They will call you for the end balance owed though, they had no problem with that. One more note, I can't test the work until a snowfall. I hope their work is better than their communication. I also complained to Gutter Helmet about their sub contractor. Gutter Helmet never contacted me about this.

+ 0 moreI called Moonworks for a Quote for the gutter helmet with heat cable to help keep Ice dams from forming. They wanted both my wife and I there and offered money off if we were. I found that to be a little gimmicky and a poor sales tactic. They will not give any ball park prices over the phone, they want to come on site and give an exact quote. I begged them to give me a very broad ball park so that I do not waste anyone's time, theirs or mine. But again that is a another tired old tactic, get on site and try to pressure you to purchase. They were very nice and punctual and the gutter helmet seemed top of the line and to be fair the salesman that came was not overly pushy. But the price was way out of any possibility for me. I am a type that spares no expense with quality materials when it comes to house upgrades but this was outrageous. To compare I got a quote for a entire roof a few months earlier from another company and the cost for a whole roof was $3,000 cheaper than the quote I got from Moonworks for just the gutter helmet with the heating cable. In the end I wont be purchasing. This may be a great product but seriously weigh your options.

+ 0 moreNever had a chance to give them the job. Called to make an appointment for an estimate on installation of Gutter Helmet on approx. 75 feet of roof. Salesperson set up the appointment and promised that we would get a written estimate '...to the penny' guaranteed for 90 days. She also wanted to make sure both my husband and I were both there so the technician could show us samples of Gutter Helmet. The visit would take '...up to an hour' and the technician would carefully measure the work area. The 'technician' showed up 30 minutes early. He appeared completely uninterested in looking around, just glanced at the house. My husband had to insist he walk to the back of the house to see the problem area. He took no measurements, just showed my husband a piece of heating cable and said they'd put it in the gutter and on parts of the roof. Heating cable? We asked for a quote for a Gutter Helmet system. My husband asked for the written quote. He was told no quote was necessary because there 'might be sales' when the work was done. My husband asked for a ballpark cost. Answer: 'around $4500.' Also, we were told they didn't do this type of work until early winter, Thanksgiving at the earliest (??). It appeared that this company really didn't want our business. My husband told me after the guy left that if we only wanted a heated cable, he could buy the cable for around $200 and have our handyman install it for about $500. Two days later, we got an estimate for Gutter Glove Ice Breaker (same type of system Moonworks supposedly sells) for $3500. And they'll do it immediately. Not sure why Moonworks has an A rating---maybe for gutters? Certainly not for Gutter Helmet. Stay away from them.

+ 0 moreThe two men who arrived for the "energy audit" appeared to be a sales team rather than sleuths who would aggressively seek out reasons for high heating bills and offer solutions for what they found. Instead, we have nothing to show for the time they spent, not so much as a rebate offer from Mass Save. I'm sure their work, such as roofing and insulation and weather stripping, is performed in a professional manner, but I would not know since we'll never find out. And I would definitely not recommend them for an energy audit.
Description of Work: I selected this company as they were one of the Home Energy Assessment providers for the MassSave program that I felt could do the insulation and air sealing this old house needs. For example, there is no insulation in the basement ceiling. (We had ice dams this past winter, which is a classic sign of poor insulation, a lack of adequate ventilation, and/or air leaks.) To make a long story short, nothing was provided--no rebates and no services. However, there was a sales pitch for their gutter helmet product and a promise that their roofing department would be out to give me an estimate. That didn't happen. Overall, I felt the "energy audit" was a joke and provided no benefit.

+ 0 moreaAl went beautifully with both installations - the Gutter Helmet which was done a few years ago and solved the leaf-clogged gutters I had and last winter, the heated roof coils, gutters and downspouts which prevent the ice build-up and melting that creates ice-dams and tremendous damage within the walls and elsewhere. I have a switch in my kitchen which I turn on when snow is predicted or begins to heat the roof, gutters and downspouts. It is a low heat that melts but is not a hazard and the wiring material is a heavy outdoor gauge. I have found that all the materials used by Gutter Helmet for their various products are of very high quality and the products themselves work as advertised. I doubt I will ever have snow, icicles or ice dam problems ever again because the ice cannot build up due to constant low heat and the roof coils melt snow and channel it down to the gutters which have Gutter Helmet over them. It is a perfect solution in my opinion to winter where snow and ice are constant threats and the damage from both can be extremely costly. And, if you use your homeowners insurance to pay for it, your premiums go up or worse, you can be cancelled. I truly do love the Gutter Helmet products I have purchased (the parent company, Moonworks, in Rhode Island, offers several different kinds of products, many of which I have not used....yet). And, the people from Moonworks/Gutter Helmet are terrific as well.
Description of Work: I already had Gutter Helmet installed over the gutters along my rooflines and it works beautifully at preventing debris other than water and tiny pieces of leaves from getting in the gutters and clogging them. Leaves blow off the roof and over the bull-nose edge of the Gutter Helmet which slightly overhangs the edge of the gutters. They used very high quality gutters where replacements were needed and the Gutter Helmet product is also very high quality. It comes in various colors to match the roof of your house and the paint does not chip off. So, after my first experience two winters ago with ice dams and damage, I had Gutter Helmet install wires inside those gutters that are prone to ice dams and icicles and the wires go down the downspout to drain ALL water away from the house and gutters. I also had heated wire loops on the roof. I control all of it with a switch in my kitchen as I wanted control of when the system is on and off. I used a very good and experienced electrician be

He was pleasant at the get go, and then when I would not commit he proceeded to tell me how awful my current gutters were, how terrible it made my house look and so on and so forth. I told him that I was concerned with the price and he said he understood but that the product is exceptional (which I tend to agree with), but when I was still reluctant to commit he proceeded to tell me that if I didn't buy them at the time of the consultation, he wouldn't be able to get them installed until next year. Seriously? Oh, he was absolutely serious. I specifically asked him, "So what you are saying is that the price goes up $800 when you leave, and that the "Four weeks" you quoted on the work schedule turns into a whole year as soon as you leave. He looked me straight in the face and said, "Yes." Then, I was done. He even told me he "needed his pen back" because I had borrowed it to write his name down on the pamphlet he left with the numbers on it (at my request mind you, he wasn't going to leave me anything until I asked. I didn't intend on keeping his pen. How absolutely ridiculous! I am very disappointed that he thought his high pressure sales would be the best way to go. I liked the product, but the sales tactics are uncalled for and unnecessary if your product is that good you should be able to let your customers "mull it over" before committing to it.

+ -1 moreI only had an estimate given. He showed up on time, and was a nice guy. Went through the details, and I had no problems. My only complaint deals with the fact that I don't like high-pressure sales tactics, which this company uses. Keep saying no, the price keeps coming down, the deal keeps getting sweeter, but you have to commit today. I don't approve of this method of estimation. Give me a fair price for a fair job; I want a quote, not a negotiation. If somebody keeps haggling the price, I always feel like I'm getting ripped in the end. After I told them there was no way I would commit to anything today, the guy packed up his stuff and left in a huff, leaving no information or anything behind. Kind of rude. Again, another reason I don't like high-pressure sales. If you can live with this, than they seem like a good company.

+ -1 moreWhen we made the initial contact with Gutter Helmet, my husband and I were expected to be home, and I liked that they wanted us to both be knowledgable about the product. Emil, our kind sales representative met with us for almost 2 hours, and was very very clear and communicative about the product and great at answering any questions. He told us again and again that the company would cost more than others, and indeed he was right. We decided to go for it, despite the cost, since it really made sense for us given our multiple trees, past bird nesting problems, and desire to own our home for the long term. After our meeting with him, we didn't hear anything until we called Emil ourselves and made the commitment. He drew up the papers, mentioned a price increase coming soon, and that we should sign the papers and get the deposit to him ASAP so we could 'lock' into the lower current price. We don't like to be pressured and weren't sure if it was gimmick to get us to buy quickly, so I called the main office in RI and they actually confirmed the price increase, which helped to calm our nerves a bit. Then, we started to receive constant calls and emails from Emil pressuring us to give him the papers and our credit card information. I felt weird leaving my credit card information over the phone, as he suggested, so I called the main office again and took care of it all with them directly, making sure that Emil got the proper credit and didn't complain at all. We knew it would be 6-8 weeks until the product was installed, so we were patient. Then about 2 weeks into the wait, I thought to call and see what the ETA was because we had travel plans coming up. They told me it would be happening in about a week or so. After this point, we had to call and get any information we could about time/exact date...they don't even call the day they are coming. Although the product looks great so far, we weren't impressed with the communications we had with the company. We shall see with time if we ultimately have to never clean our gutters again!

+ -1 moreEverything was good except one minor discrepancy. They left six old roofing nails in my driveway along with one gutter helmet text screw and an adhesive coverage. They did not clean up well enough. Other than that, the work was excellent. I would use their services again.

+ -1 moreThey were here on time and worked continually all day without even taking a lunch break. They did a great job and cleaned up well after themselves. The project was finished accurately and the house and garage look great! After they were finished we noticed that some water was running over the gutter helmet but they explained this was because it was covered with pollen. They came out to wash the pollen away free of charge.
Description of Work: I hired Gutter Helmet to remove and replace the gutters and downspout on my home and garage. They also installed a new gutter helmet.

+ 0 moreI called Gutter Helmet in 2007 and set up a meeting with a salesman. He came and took considerable time explaining the Gutter Helmet systerm to me, answering my questions and at my request, showed me products from the so-called competition. They were not even close. Flimsy, cheaply made and definitely not the solution to leaves. After comparing the Gutter Helmet product to the others, I knew that Gutter Helmet was the only way to go and well worth the investment. The installation of the Gutter Helmet was really pretty simple. Since it was done in 2007, I don't remember alot about it. I do remember that it was done quickly and neatly and in a matter of one day, I solved ALL my gutter problems involving leaves. Once the Heating System is installed, I will have solved ALL my snow and ice problems. In one day and forever. I was impressed with the Gutter Helmet experience from the first phone call I made and remain impressed. I look forward to having the Heating System installed in the very near future. What a relief. I can honestly say that Gutter Helmet is one of the best investments I ever made. And, the one of the most reasonably priced, as well. Once the Heater Helmet is installed I will report on how well it works.
Description of Work: Gutter Helmet is the best solution to gutters in existence. It is a terrific product because once installed, it prevents leaves from going in the gutters once and for all. No ladders, no accidents, no headaches. It is very well made and provides a very neat edge along the roof line over the gutters. The replacement gutters that Gutter Helmet provided, where they were needed, were of really fine quality . The system works. And, I will soon be having these talented people back to install the Gutter Helmet Heating System which will prevent ice dams forever. They will be installing heated wires in the gutters and on the roof, front and back, to create channels for the melting snow/ice to travel down into the gutter. They will also be running heated wires down the downspouts to melt snow and ice inside and prevent the gutters from backing up. I will be able to turn the Heating System on and off as needed and if I like, leave it on during a bad storm. I am using the electrician my terrific salesman uses because he is familiar with the system. He came to my house to do a walk-through in advance of the Gutter Helmet wire installation. Two simple switches in my kitchen will control the system and I will never again have ice dams like I had this past February. Ever. No more leaves. Now, no more ice, 5' icicles, and no more ice dams. Ever. Gutter Helmet is a part of Moonworks, the parent company headquartered in Woonsocket, R.I. My salesman for the G H Heating System was terrific and I highly recommend that people call him directly to discuss the products and/or to set up a meeting with him. His name is Bob Sharton and his cell phone number is: (617) 201-4481. Tell him Susan in Dedham referred you so he'll know! He knows his stuff and explains it well. I like Gutter Helmet so much that I will be using Moonworks to do my roof in the next 1-2 years. Gutter Helmet does gutters. The roofing division does roofs utilizing GAF roofing materials. I discussed it with Bob Sharton and now feel comfortable using Moonworks to install my roof based on his explanation of both the process and the materials. The Gutter Helmet experience has been completely positive in all regards. Superior, professional people. Superior, beautifully installed products. I would use the entire family of Moonworks services for all my house-ownership projects based on the experiences I have already had with Gutter Helmet. I like them and trust them with my home.

Description of Work: Gutter helmets placed on existing gutters. One gutter along the side of the house was replaced and repair work was necessary due to the former broken gutter. Down spout also replaced.

+ -1 moreSales person (Emil) was very positive, professional, and even good with my dog. He came to my home (even on superbowl sunday!) and measured, developed an estimate, etc. The price was quite high. I inquired about ways to reduce the price and he encouraged me to do perhaps just the severe problem area (front porch gutter) first, and do the rest when i could afford. He did not attempt to upsell any other services or offer alternatives to Gutter Helmet. He called a few times to see if I had made a decision, and I informed him that I had decided to wait on this project and would not need Gutter Helmet at this time. Several weeks later, another rep from the company called and told me that there is an alternative (less expensive) option, and he would be happy to send a sales rep to my home to discuss it. This man (i forget the name) was unwilling to discuss it over the phone and attempted to pressure me into yet another sales rep visiting my home. I was disappointed that Emil did not offer me all possibilities when he was in my home. UPDATE: I received a call from Gutter Helmet on 5/10/11 to follow up on this Angie's list posting. The phone rep clarified that the less expensive product (Screen-Mesh) was not available when Emil visited, which explains why he would not have offered that product to me. He was still unable to give me an estimate by phone, and again offered to send a sales rep to my home. He was courteous and apologized for the confusion. I do wish that the phone rep doing the initial follow-up call had the knowledge to answer questions about the product.

+ -1 moreIt is great. My husband doesn?t have to complain about having to clean out the gutters. They came when they said they were going to come. They finish in a timely manner. They cleaned up after themselves. We didn?t have to do a thing. They finish in the amount of time they said they would.
Description of Work: We had an addition put on the side of the house. They replaced the gutters on the entire house front and back.

+ -1 moreMy gutters were clogged and they should not have been because of having these gutter helmets. The company came by and left a nos el to spray out the gutters with. The whole reason I bought the gutter helmets was to keep the gutters from being clogged.
