Tom and Sons Home Improvement

I want to compliment the job Tom and Sons Home Improvement did on my house. I hired the company to clean/pressure wash the outside of my house and perform some major and minor carpentry repairs to my house as well as paint thereafter. I found them very reasonable and competitively in the ball park as far as pricing. Upon later reading the other reviews on this site, I was compelled to defend Tom & Sons because I had such a great experience and had to at least express what happened at my house. I asked Tom about the bad reviews when I discovered them and all he could say was that out of 50 or more jobs a year that his company performed, occasionally, one or two go awry. Those are the folks who will most likely post a negative review, which is the only downside of Angie's List. To wrap this up, I was quoted a good price and the work was done within the specified time this August.. I felt comfortable with Tom and Son's Co and found them very nice and courteous. I am recommending Tom & Sons Home Improvement to all my friends.

What was supposed to take two weeks took well over a month. Tom talks a good line with 25 years experience, but doesn't tell you he is going to hire a very inexperienced worker to do the job. He did not oversee the work at all. His tile work is terrible. They re-grouted the floor 3 times before I told him to stop wasting time. He did not use spacers when tiling the shower so I have different size grout lines on the walls. He retiled the shower floor twice. Finally after about six weeks of being completely aggravated, I fired him. I called in a tile guy who fixed all of Toms mistakes. He also discovered that the wrong drywall was used in the shower area!! The painting was terrible. After two months the tape lines where he had pieced the drywall together were peeling. I had an experienced painter come in to repaint the room. I put a claim against him with the contractors board. An inspector came out and could not believe the awful job that Tom and Sons Home Improvement did on my bathroom. He was ordered to return a portion of my money. My advise to you is to save yourself a lot of aggravation and do not use this company.

7/16/2012 Please don't let this company anywhere near your house! We were given a fair estimate to have our house powerwashed and painted, however we had given them 2 payments of $1000 each and fired them after a few days. We didn't get our money back and they didn't do a very professional job. They supposedly powerwashed our house, but they left some mold on the clapboards and then painted right over it. The mold showed right through the paint. One of their workers made his own ladder out of some wood we had lying around. He then proceeded to nail these boards into our roof! They have very unexperienced workers (summer work) and they are not very professional. Very unorganized and the owner of the company was not around much. My husband and I had to powerwash and bleach off the mold and then we painted our whole house ourselves. We did a much more professional job than they had. I would never let these people near my house again!
