Suppose to build a shed but it was 21/2 feet off the ground. He gave us a quote and 2 days into the job he said he made a mistake and wanted $3000.00 more. We cancelled the work and tore down the mess. He kept the remainder of our deposit which amounts to approx. $2700.00. Now they say he is out of business and we are out money. Thought we could trust Angie's list for someone good, that's a scam too.

Job got done but had to call back to repair where it came undone. Not repair to the way that it should have been done but patch up with some kind of cement .You want more information you call me, Not too good at writing letters.

The work that they did was good and they were professional and friendly. I had no others problems with them. But during the job, the owner/worker got sick so everything stopped. I spoke to Gordon's son to see when everything would start up again and if anyone was going to be showing up. I was told no one else was coming, so I left my home. Well, ended up that the plumber came to our house at 615pm. He was able to come out on another day when I was there. The plumber's bill came out fine, but it was the electricians work that ended up being more. I had to contact Gordan at least two times to get the estimate. I kept having to call him and ask him for my quote. My original quote was for $1100, but the end bill was $600 more. The plumbers work came in about 25% over the budget. I do want to emphasize that he did a good job and did a walk through with me when the work was complete, to make sure I was satisfied.

When I began researching how much it would cost to have a new deck added to our existing deck, I had 7 or 8 professionals come to my home. Only(2)of the contractors mentioned that the current structure would need addtional support to add a deck, therefore my choice was easy. Once Gordon and his crew began work, it was clear to see that they were going to do this project right and there was continuous communication a long the way. Once they were almost complete with the original project we asked if they could replace the current floor boards on the existing deck and hang some new doors inside the home. They were happy to do so and everything was completed to our satisfaction. Overall, I would say our experience with Lakewood Builders was pleasant and professional.

Would not recommend. When we did not agree to give him the money upfront he never returned. Very Shady.

The provider seemed like he was going to do a good job, he looked around to get all the details before he left so he knew what needed to be done. The provider said he would need an architect drawing of the ramp before he could begin. I had an architect come out and do initial drawings for this project since he said his architect would charge $800 for the drawings. I followed up by email and didn't get a response so then I called and spoke to the provider, he said he was still working on the quote and I should have it by the following Monday. I hadn't heard anything again and in the process we were approved for a wheelchair lift instead so I again emailed him to ask if he was still interested in building a new deck instead of a ramp. He replied that he was still interested and would call later that evening, again I never heard from him again. I would have rather he said he wasn't interested in the job instead of keep putting it off so I could find another builder. I did find it a little odd that he was not writing down anything that I was looking to have done in the kitchen.

No details to tell......I received NO help from any contractors that I contacted, NOT even a phone call!

I contacted Lakewood Builders for an estimate for my intended project, and Gordon showed promptly at the appointed time. That is the last I have heard from him. No estimate in 6 weeks. I called around 1 Feb to ascertain the estimate and left my contact information again, but there has been no reply.

There are few things that annoy me more than a person that does not respect your time. This builder spoke to me by phone about the job, made an appointment with me on a Saturday morning to see the job then failed to show up. I never received a phone call to cancel, explain the no show or reschedule. I would not hire this builder.

We are very pleased with their work. When we first asked for an estimate, Gordon drove over from a nearby job 5 minutes later and took about an hour to discuss the project and take measurements. We wanted the new porch in a different style from the old one to better match the rest of the house, and Gordon immediately understood what we were asking for and had suggestions about what would work. Where another contractor proposed using prefab vinyl columns and railings?and then had trouble figuring out how to get those materials to fit the space, Gordon proposed ordering custom columns and hand-building railings to fit. Because of this, his design didn't include many of the compromises of the other contractor. He also hired an engineer in advance to spec out the size of beam required to handle the load. Even though his estimate was higher, we had much more confidence in his ability to produce a quality result and deal with any unexpected problems. As often happens, the job turned out to be larger than we originally hoped. The second floor joists were also rotten, and the first floor joists were made of non-pressure-treated lumber. Rather than put new mahogany decking on top of vulnerable joists, we agreed to have them rebuild both decks from scratch. Gordon was up front about our choices and what the increased costs would be, and we approved the additional work. We did not have a tight deadline, so we allowed Gordon to fit us into his schedule. This meant that we did not always know who would be working or when, and there were some days when there was no progress due to rain or other jobs. Still, we never felt that we were forgotten. When there were going to be longer absences, Gordon would drop us an email to let us know when to expect the team back. The materials they used were first-rate. They have a painter on-staff who patiently primed each piece of wood before it was installed. Decking boards were bevel-cut on the ends to fit together tightly. Columns were carefully aligned to properly support the beams and avoid blocking the view out windows. All screw holes were pre-drilled to avoid splitting wood. Everything is tight, level and square. The Lakewood crew is quiet and efficient. They play a radio while they work, but keep the volume down. They talk and joke around, but are always busy. During demolition, they draped tarps across our windows to protect them. When a problem comes up, they talk over the best solution, and ask us for approval if necessary. When we asked them to re-locate their materials from the yard to the patio, everything was moved by the end of the day. They clean up at the end of each day, and although we have occasionally found a forgotten tool or dropped screw, we never felt the need to ask them to clean up. We would hire Lakewood Builders again, and would recommend them to others. We asked for a custom-built job with top-grade materials, and that's what they delivered. While I'm sure that other contractors might have been less expensive, they gave us fair value for the quality of their work.

During the meeting, the business owner was very professional. I would have hired him had I bought the home.

The job went very well. I'm a retired carpenter who has built everything from new homes(my own included) to intensive care units, so I know how a project should go.This job was professional from start to finish. The carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters were first rate! Everybody very polite and respectful. Gordon, the owner of Lakewood Building is always available very responsive. I would hire again!

3 men they did a good job but I had more jobs to be done. He said he get back with the price. Never return a call and that went on for over a month. I called and left a numbers of message but still no answers or email. I even asked if he did not want the job please let me know so I could get somebody else. Still never a return call. So for that reason I would never use his services again.

We bought a home two years ago knowing that we would want to have a new fence installed fairly soon. We then adopted a shelter dog and of course, the need for a new fence became greater. We contacted Gordon for an initial meeting so that he could see what our existing fence looked like and determine what we had in mind for the new fence. We told him what we wanted and asked him what he would recommend, also what he would do if it were his own house. We wanted to be sure we had options so that we’d be able to make the best choice for our budget and our lifestyle. While he was there for the consult, I mentioned that we might like to have the top boards of the decking replaced at the same time; it was pretty shabby too. So Gordon took those measurements as well and we discussed options for the deck as well. One other factor to consider was how installing a new fence would impact on our neighbors. On one side the neighbors have grandchildren who stay overnight frequently. We needed to be sure the area would be clean, safe, and secure for the kids. Our neighbors on the other side also have a dog and we wanted to minimize the inconvenience for them as well. Having to go dog-walking after years of having a fence is a big change to your daily routine! Gordon worked on a proposal, presenting a few different price points depending upon the materials used. While we had an initial price in mind we also realized that our home is our vacation spot and some place that we will be living in for many, many years to come. We chose the top ‘o the line option (for us anyway) and couldn’t be more pleased with the results! I can truly say that Gordon and his crew were very prompt, courteous, neat, and also good with my dog! Every morning when the crew arrived, my dog would get upset if she didn’t get to go say good morning to her new friends. Each day after work, we couldn’t wait to get home to see the progress. And each evening we were thoroughly pleased with the condition of the yard as well. Things were neat, organized and clean! The only drawback to the whole process was the weather. We had a couple of weeks of nearly consistent rain which delayed things quite a bit but there’s no controlling the weather. I would highly recommend Lakewood and will definitely use them again for future projects. Best of luck with your renovations; I hope you are as happy as we are!

This has been a major renovation. I don't want to jinx it, but it has gone more smoothly than I ever could have imagined. Lakewood Builders is everything I hoped for in a contractor and more. And did I mention they are nice guys? They were considerate to the dogs and no F words flying off the roof to annoy the neighbors. * fair and reasonable prices. * use high quality materials * very punctual - everyday of the project the crew arrived at 8 am and left at 4 * flexible - they made adjustments when problems were uncovered * clean! They left the site neat and tidy at the end of every day * considerate * easy to communicate with by email, text or phone * it looks beautiful!

We worked with Gordon and his recommended architect to get a working drawing of the changes we wanted to make to our deck and the surrounding area. They submitted this plan to get our permit and the work began the next week. Gordon worked with us from start to finish taking our plans and turning them into an actual design. He provided advice when asked and made sure to get our comments and ideas before each step. His crew was courteous and professional. Overall we are thrilled with our new outdoor space and our friends are hoping to have Lakewood work with them on their upcoming projects. I would highly recommend them!

bad weather caused delays. but when they got started completed job in one day.

I started calling around for pricing and a friend of mine recommended Lakewood Builders. I called Monday night around 5:30pm and they sent someone over the next afternoon. He was very thorough with his estimate and broke down where and what exactly I was paying for. after going over the quote and looking at what other company's prices were i decided to go with them. They were not the lowest price but I felt most comfortable with them. The work began a week after I gave the OK. There were 5 guys and were on the roof taking off the old shingles in the matter of minutes. By the time i got home from work the roof was completely stripped and tar papered. By the end of 2 more days the roof was completely done. He estimated it would take 4 days and was done in 3! They did not start to early and we gone by the time I got home every day.
