Began to contact him to install a stainless steel chimney to replace my power venter. Communication was prompt. He arrived for estimate and all was well. His price was well below other bids so I agreed to proceed. He sent me a deposit invoice for a $2200 deposit on a $2900 job! When I questioned this, he failed to respond. I have called, texted and emailed multiple times. No answer and no response in over two weeks. I did not feel comfortable paying over 75% up front! PLEASE BEWARE.

We've lived in our present house five years without using a remote-controlled gas powered fireplace in the living room. We knew it worked but had never turned it on and tried it out. We figured it was time to have a professional make sure it was safe, reliable and give it a once over, since it would be nice to have a fire during the holidays. James came out and cycled it up, changed batteries in both remote control mechanisms and left, insuring us it was good to go. On Christmas Eve we tried the fireplace FOR THE FIRST TIME, and found the roaring flame wouldn't turn off after about an hour of use. A quick inspection determined that the electronics had completely melted from the heat of the adjacent flame. Not knowing what to do, and with a now unusable remote, we finally turned the gas feed off from the basement, making for a frantic Christmas Eve. Subsequent calls to James went unanswered for the next two weeks. He finally came out three weeks later, looked inside and blamed poor design of the unit for the meltdown. When we questioned whether his incorrect placement of the ceramic hood covering the electronics could have resulted in its failure, he responded that it wouldn't have made any difference. And since this is an old unit, he said, new parts are no longer available to make it work correctlly again -- though we could still reach deep inside the fireplace to turn it on and off manually if we wanted to. His parting advice was to go to a real fireplace store and buy a whole new system. Seriously? We started with a working, though unused remote-controlled fireplace. After James monkeyed with it and happily took our $109, we now have a BROKEN, UNUSABLE remote-controlled fireplace.

James and another worker arrived on time. They inspected the dryer vent and found two problems. On the outside of house the vent "slats" had been painted over preventing them from opening and closing properly. He scraped off the paint to allow them to operate correctly. On the inside of house he found pin holes in the vent hose which were causing moisture to escape. He duct taped the problem areas to prevent the moisture, dust, lint, etc. from escaping. He noted this would likely improve the drying time and cut down on dust. At my last minute request, James took a quick look into the chimney flue to determine if it needed cleaning, which he informed it did not. James did not try to upsell any products or services. He did all the additional work at no extra cost beyond the originally quoted price to clean out the dryer vent, which was VERY reasonable. Both he and his worker were respectful, worked neatly and cleaned up after themselves. They completed the work in about a half hour. Very professional, excellent service... I highly recommend them!

Jim has all the qualities you want to do the job right. In this case the bricks towards the top of my 90 year old,10' chimney were loose and posed a danger. Our roof is extremely steep, but it was no problem for Jim, he did an excellent job as we new he would. The reason being is that he recently installed a stainless steel liner in that same chimney so we knew the quality in his workmanship. He'll give you an estimate , stays with it, and you don't have to worry about it from that point on. I would most definitely recommend Mr. Perreault to anyone needing any type of chimney work.

Jim secured the town permit and performed the installation of the chimney for our new wood stove. Jim is thorough - professional and extremely conscientious in carrying out his work. He wastes no time - works quickly, cleanly and somewhat quiet considering the work being done. He gave me a very thorough explanation for all he did and some healthy recommendations on operating the wood stove. I will use him every year now for cleaning and recommend him highly to anyone requiring a professional installer or chimney sweep. He specifically ran all the stove pipe, adapters, ceiling supports, attic shield and 304 stainless chimney, cap and roof supports. Excellent work.

He has a flat rate for chimney cleaning, so there are no surprises. He is difficult to get a hold of during the day - best to call him at night to set up an appt.

James came out on Christmas Eve to fix my gas fireplace. He fixed it on the spot and gave me a great price compared to the other company that quoted me. Will go to him again if needed!

Everything went very well. we discussed what had to be done over the phone. He requested some measurements which I gave him. He said he would check his stock for the required materials and then he get back to me. He called back saying he had the materials and told me what it would cost and how long the repair would take. We sent up an appointment. He was on time and the job came out great and he was also right on with his time estimate. He even did one or two small things that we did not talk about and even though I offered to pay him for them he declined saying it was no problem. I will have him back in the spring to do some pointing and seal the chimney. Very professional and experienced. Would recommend him to anyone without reservations.

Excellent. Called for appraisal and he came promptly. Gave me an estimate which was good for the remainder of the year. I checked with another provider and found that the price was fair. Called to get work done and Mr. Perreault responded within a few days. Came on a Sunday afternoon since rain was setting him back. Professional attitude and work. Cleaned up after and indicated he would return at no charge if something went wrong. Highly recommend.

My first time using Angie's List went like a charm. I called PERREAULT CHIMNEY when I saw excessive smoke, sparks coming out of my wood stove chimney. They came at the appointed time, cleaned a very dirty chimney, with great professionalism. They did not leave a mess, everything went back into place before they left. In short, they did what they said they would, in a timely way, charged what they said they would and I haven't had a problem since. Highly Recommended!!!

Recently bought a 1929 house and wanted the chimneys cleaned and looked at. Since this chimney service had an overall A rating on Angie's List, I called them first. Got a call back the next day, and on the phone he told me quickly that most chimneys in houses of this age would need to be lined with stainless steel flues, like the last job he had done. They came the next day and immediately went up on the roof; he right away called down to his partner that the chimney was in bad shape and would need to be lined. Same thing with the furnace chimney. In a nutshell, he refused to clean the chimneys unless I would contract to put the flues in-- $1800 each, saying that he didn't want to be held liable for cleaning them and then having the house burn down as they were not lined. He also frightened me by saying that unless I lined the the furnace chimney ASAP I could die in my sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning; he suggested not using the furnace at all until the job was done. (It's almost November.) He provided me with a written estimate, and told me in order to use the fireplace, I would have to get an insert, either pellet stove, wood stove or gas fireplace. He told me they are expensive, where to go to buy one, that he always uses that retailer. I was really disappointed as I had been looking forward to cozy winter fires, and no way could I afford to have the flue installed as well as spend upwards of $3000 to have a fireplace insert installed. I paid $65 for the and quot;inspectionand quot; and when they left I felt upset and confused. Fortunately a friend told me about an old and very reputable chimney service, 3 generations old, same family. They don't even advertise as they have all their loyal customers from word-of-mouth. They came the day after I called, looked at the situation, and said the chimneys already have the original linings, and needed a minimum of repair. They came back two days later to do the cleanings, and patched a few holes. They also said there is no need for a fireplace insert, and that I can safely burn fires in the fireplace. He mentioned hat the log grate is too large for the fireplace, and that I should get a smaller one. He even showed me how to build the fire at the back of the firebox, the best way to light a fire, and how to heat the flue first.The whole job, for cleaning both chimneys and the repair, cost $375. The furnace chimney was loaded with soot! I looked up and quot;chimney cleaning scamsand quot; and sure enough, it's a big business. Check on Angie's List about it... Do not use James Perreault chimney service. Find a well-established, reputable and dependable company, and always get several estimates before signing on the doted line. ANd also, BTW, the company I used said they do not charge for inspections !

James came to our residence last fall to sweep our fireplace chimney and oil furnace chimney. He and his fellow worker were very professional, neat and courteous. James pointed out to me where the flue tile was broken and missing where the boiler pipe breaches the chimney flue. He strongly recommened to fix this by installing a stainless steel liner. I got another estimate and James was easily the best price. When I emailed him about doing the job he was very prompt and came out within two days. I will be using James in the future when it is time to sweep our chimneys.

Armed with the correct equipment, James was able to replace the faulty chimney flue immediately. James is extremely knowledgeable and informative. It is clear that he loves his business. James seems to know chimneys inside and out. He's our chimney guy from here on!

James provided estimates for his services over the phone and I felt the prices were competitive so I went ahead and scheduled an appointment. It should be noted that it took a little bit longer than expected to receive a call back from James after my initial call. I DID NOT see this as a negative because if someone is in high demand and constantly busy, to me, it means they are doing something RIGHT. IF YOU ARE PATIENT YOU WILL BE PLEASED. I ended up having to change the date of the appointment and James was very accommodating. He and his assistant showed up promptly at nine, which was our scheduled appointment time. Upon arriving at my house James and his crew were very polite and informed me of everything they would be doing and how long it would take to complete the job. He was more than willing to answer all of my questions and knowing that I was new to the area he went one step further by telling me specifically where to go to obtain the supplies locally (Seacoast and Cranston Masonry). That was huge to me because I am a firm believer in buying local first. Within one hour and fifteen minutes of arriving I had a printed invoice in my hands and the job was done. I was more than pleased. James and his crew came and went without leaving any soot, dirt, or debris anywhere in the house. Since he was both professional and polite I would highly recommend him and his services and plan on using him in the future.
