Casey's Chimney & Wood Stove Service

Chimney Repair, Chimney Sweep, Chimney Caps,

About us

Please call the main number to schedule service. Established in 1973, the Casey family has been keeping Rhode Island families warm and safe from chimney fires longer than any chimney company in the state. Founded by, James and Joyce Casey nearly 40 years ago, the husband and wife team started out as a family owned and operated business with a station wagon, ladder and a few chimney brushes. While Joyce ran the office from home and looked after the children, Jim set his sites on becoming the best in the industry. Jim wasn't happy just cleaning chimney's, he wanted to learn the science behind each working part and mechanism taking classes all over the country. Once Jim knew the anatomy of a chimney he could diagnose various problems customers experienced. Just a few short years into the business, Jim learned there was much more to the chimney business than simply brushing down a chimney. His now highly educated eye picks up on what other chimney company's bypass. Two of Jim and Joyce's children have joined the family company where they are committed to their parent's ethics, values, sense of community, and to never sacrifice safety for the almighty dollar. Decades have passed and seen the company grow from a station wagon to cube trucks which are virtual warehouses on wheels. If you need it, we have it - WE DO IT ALL!

Well done. Clean and thorough. My only criticism is their pricing proposal. It changed from proposal because the chimney was dirtier than average. Need to be up front with this.

They were very thurough. He had me check his wrk. They were very concerned about keeping your house tidy while they are working on it. They went the extra mile for us. They came right out and did the work for a great price.
Description of Work: He repointed the chimney. He replaced a new cap and did waterproofing to it as well. He also did a crown coat and flash seal. He sealed off an unused flue and did spot pointing where the bricks were coming out.

Excellent interactions on the phone - they got back to me within hours after I left a message - were able to book within a couple of weeks. They showed up on time (even slightly early). Stephen was very personable and clear - made sure he provided detailed costs as he went along - covered everything that was at risk for soot inside - left living room clean. Very happy with the work - have some additional chimney repair to do soon and will definitely go with them.
Description of Work: Cleaned two chimneys which had not been cleaned in over 10 years. Replaced ash trap door in fireplace. Replaced chimney cap that had blown off during Irene (the original one was still in good shape, they took out some dents and put it back up).

OMG! I have had my chimney "cleaned & inspected" (or so I thought) for the 4 years I have owned my house. Never as completely as today. 2 (very nice & professional) gentlemen arrived early, complete with brushes, ladders, vacuums, tools and a camera! They took the time to explain everything to me (including the fact my husband is burning more crap than he should in the indoor fireplace). The cleaning was thorough, including removing the cap and cleaning from there. The inspection was great and included photos. My quoted price was 149.00 for inspection. Mentioning Angie's List got a final price of 135.00. Then, I needed 4 other things. 2 fairly urgent and 2 that can wait. Mortar at the hearth was missing in a section (major fire danger) and my flashing is completely pulled away from the chimney (water leak issue). Since I am having the roof replaced this year, Steven did not try to sell me fixing the flashing, he instead put some sealer on to get me through till the roof replacement. The other 2 items needing addressing are a BIG crack on the outside bricks and the top of the chimney needs repointing. So, after all this, Steven mortared the inside (so I can use the fireplace) and caulked the flashing for a nominal fee (40.00 for both). Then he gave me an estimate (for clearly needed) outside repairs. The price estimate is good for the work I need. Well, after this LONG review, all I have to say is that if you think you are having your chimney cleaned and inspected, try Casey's next time. You will be pleasantly surprised at the thoroughness and probably shocked at what your last "guy" missed! P.S. Please be home during thier visit... if you're new to fireplaces/chimneys, they will teach you what you need to know to be a fire "safe" user...

I contacted Casey's chimney because I had a big, nasty leak that had caused a lot of water damage to my ceiling next to the chimney, and attempts to repair the flashing hadn't worked. When Mr. Casey came to do the work he discovered that the chimney (for my boiler) was in very bad shape, and had been very badly serviced in the past. He and his team did a thorough job of rebuilding my chimney from just below the roof level on up, and also replaced the access door in the basement. I was left satisfied with the service, and with a beautiful-looking new chimney. As time went by, though, I noticed that the water-damaged area was still getting wet in rainy weather. I called Mr. Casey on a couple of such occasions, and he did come by to look at it, which I appreciated, but then always had some reason why it was a fluke that the water was coming in: "the wind was blowing extra-hard," etc. Recently, I had some renovation work done that included demo of my entire upstairs, and we got heavy rain toward the end of the first week. My builder noticed that quite a lot of water was coming in right next to the chimney, and that she could see daylight between the chimney and the roof. Mr. Casey did come by again, and hopefully did something to fix it, but we'll see ...
Description of Work: Chimney (for boiler) was rebuilt from just below the roofline, on up, including new masonry and lining.

Response from Casey's Chimney & Wood Stove Service
While we are sorry you feel our service is not worthy of a higher grade, whenever you have called we have responded to the best of our ability. Leaks are often very difficult to find. However, we will continue to return to the residence until this problem is solved once and for all. Wind driven rain and other factors are sometime hard conditions to simulate when finding a leak, but for 40 years we have stood behind our work and will continue to do so with diligence. thanks for your report and please feel free to call anytime with concerns. Everything went fine. They came this morning to test the chimney and luckily were able to complete the work today.
Description of Work: Repaired failing flashing and cracked crown. Also sealed the chimney to prevent future water damage. They also removed a 600 pound, cast iron fireplace insert. The removal required a new custom damper and rod.

What a great experience from the first contact to the finished work! Mr. Casey and staff were professionals and kept me up to date on all work. The job was done promptly, efficiently and at the exact quoted price. I was pleased with the job and would highly recommend this contractor!
Description of Work: We noticed a ceiling leak that happened after there was strong wind and rain. We wanted to get this taken care of quickly to mitigate any additional loss. I called Casey's based on info on Angie's list and a recommendation from my sister who had used their services in the past. They promptly went to the home and assessed the problem within a day of my call. They immediately contacted me to let me know the status and we continued to the next step of making the repairs. Mr. Casey replaced the cracked liner, repaired flashing and mortar as well as capped the chimney. They were prompt, worked cleanly and efficiently.

our fireplace damper wasn't working. the first place we called came to look and said it was broken and couldn't be fixed because it was too old. they said we would need a new one and the cost would be $700. I called Casey's and he came over the next day, looked at it and said all it needed was a good cleaning, it was not broken, and now everything works! His team was clean, proficient, and just great.

I placed an emergency call to them. Carbon Monoxide alarm went off.earlier in day. Boiler man thought it was the chimney causing the problem and said to have the chimney inspected and cleaned. It was late Friday afternoon by then, and the receptionist went out of her way to help me. They were ready to leave for the day, but they took the call and was at my home immediately. Put tarps down everywhere. Very professional. Will call again for chimney work.

I noticed a dampness on the concrete chimney blocks in the attic even when there was no rain. Then there was some wetness appearing when there was very heavy rain. I was told by the first outfit that came to give an estimate that we needed a chimney cleaning [it's a gas furnace] and also a metal chimney liner because the new higher efficiency boiler was creating condensation. I was not convinced, particularly because a condition of warranty was annual chimney cleaning, something I know is not required for gas furnaces. I next found Casey's Chimney Service on the list, called and made an appointment for Jim to come and give me an estimate. He showed up promptly and examined the situation from inside the house. It was raining very hard that day, so he did not send a man up on the roof since the pitch of the roof is quite steep. But, from inside, he was able to determine much of the problem, even to the point of identifying where the water was coming into the attic. He said it needed a stainless steel liner and, from what he could see from the inside, a repair to the flashing. He gave me his estimate which I agreed to. Two days later, Jim arrived with a crew, and in less than 3 hours, the liner was installed, the clean-out door was replaced, the chimney had a new cap, crown, and sealer treatment, and the flashing was repaired with FlashSeal. From beginning to end, the process was completed impeccably. They left the area around the furnace and chimney cleaner than it was before they did the work. The crew were polite and efficient. Since the installation, the condensation that had absorbed into the concrete blocks has evaporated, and no rain has seeped into the attic. I was pleased with every aspect of my dealings with Casey's Chimney Service. I was particularly appreciative of Jim's willingness to explain everything to me. It is my home and I pride myself in understanding how things work so that I can better take care of it. Not all service providers are willing to share their knowledge with female clients. Jim was informative without being condescending and he gained my trust with a job very well done.
Description of Work: First and foremost, Jim diagnosed and fixed the whole problem. They installed a stainless steel liner system, repaired the crown, repaired the flashing that had pulled away from the chimney, and sealed both the crown and the chimney brick. He also replaced the broken clean-out door at the bottom of the chimney.

I called Casey's after seeing their ad in my local Angie's List magazine. My Chimney had not been used since I purchased my house and converted back from gas to wood burning. Casey's was very professional and informative from the time I made my initial call for an appointment to when they actually completed the work. I waited 6 weeks for an appointment, however, it was in the fall which is the busiest time of the year for chimney sweeps. The two guys that came made sure to lay down protective cloth where they were stepping from the door to the chimney. They cleaned up after themselves. I knew a chimney cap was needed. Costs were presented up front before performing the work. A small but vital repair to the hearth was found during the inspection. Basically, concrete grout was missing in a section of the hearth floor. Work was complete in about two hours. Staff were informative and professional. I will use Casey's for my chimney needs in the future.

The company arrived were extremely nice evaluated my chimney and told me my chimney was nice and clear and to now call my oil company who services my furnace for a cleaning and a check.
Description of Work: I was having an issue with gray soot on my walls in the bathroom and thought my chimney might be involved. I called Casey's and unfortunately they did not come out to my area, i live way down the shore of Ma. They were so nice to me and offered to find me someone who could come an service me who they trusted. They felt it might be an emergency so they searched for me all day! Finally they got a company that was in the middle off a job in RI. to come down today and check it out. They had no idea who I was and they really put themselves out for me. They worked until 6:30 PM to find someone they trusted not to try and swindle me. I would highly recommend these people they really care. PS. The company that came down did not even charge me!

Called on 11/22. The person that answered was very friendly and helpful. I scheduled an appointment for late December (earliest that they had), but was told that they would probably call back to schedule something sooner as (outdoor repair jobs get cancelled due to inclement weather). Later that same afternoon I received a call that they had a opening the next day. The owner, Casey, and another person arrived on time the next day. They covered the floor and got right to work. They cleaned the chimney, installed the 2 caps, and even replaced the cotter pin on the damper handle. They were done quickly and without a mess of any kind. /Both men were professional and personable. I'm very happy with the service. I will definitely contact them for each cleaning and I feel comfortable recommending them.

Update: Recieved call from Casey's in response to my Angieslist rating. Unsure of what happened to the phone messages, but I believe it was a sincere mistake or mix up. Just doesn't make sense otherwise...with so many positive reviews. When we need service again, we'll give them a call. I really appreciate their follow up, even if it didn't work out at the time. Original: Phoned Casey's both Friday and Saturday and received no response. It's now Tuesday evening and we still haven't heard from him/them. We will be happy to upgrade, or remove the rating if we discovered an unusual circumstance...illness, death in family, etc. We will be calling another service.

Comments: It had been a couple years since the last chimney inspection and cleaning so after some research on Angie's list, I selected Casey's. They were very polite on the phone and were able to schedule me into their busy schedule. I have learned that spring time is a better time to have a chimney cleaned. On the day of the cleaning, I was called ahead of time saying that the crew was on their way and they arrived as planned. They inspected the chimney, chimney cap and then cleaned the chimney. They completed the job in around 1.5 hours and did an excellent job keeping our home clean. I will definitely use Casey's again in the future.

Casey's came out to my house and gave me an estimate for the work prior to when the work was actually started. The cost of them coming out to inspect my chimney and give me the estimate was able to be put towards the bill if they were given the job, so based on their ratings on Angie's list, I decided to go with them right then, so I don't know how my price would have compared to the competition. Since it was raining that day and they had other jobs scheduled, they said they would be in touch to schedule the work. A week went by without hearing anything, but I called the office and they were very helpful in getting my job on the schedule quickly (2 days after my call). They said it would probably take 1 and 1/2 days to complete the work and that they would arrive at 8:00 am. The crew (led by Stephen Morey) that worked on my chimney showed up at 7:30 am eager to get to work. They quickly knocked down the chimney (taking care to avoid damaging the roof and landscaping surrounding the house) and got to work rebuilding it. They did a beautiful job with the chimney and were very professional and courteous. My neighbor even commented on how good they were and on how nice of a job they did! They were able to get the chimney rebuilt by early afternoon and the liner installed by the end of the day, a full 1/2 day ahead of what I had been told. It turns out they decided that morning to add an additional person to the crew working on my house in order to get the job done in one day, which was great. I would certainly recommend them to anyone needing chimney work.
Description of Work: The old brick chimney was dismantled down to the roof line and was rebuilt using new bricks and flashing. Once chimney was rebuilt, a stainless steel liner (w/cap) was inserted and connected to my boiler and water heater in the basement.

On 10/18, I called for an inspection / estimate for a chimney repair due to a leaking roof which I believed to be from a lack of proper and damaged flashing on the existing chimney. Jim came out to inspect on 10/19 at 8 am, as promised. It was discovered that the previous occupant had attempted to reface the chimney which caused multiple problems and potential leak sites. Jim recommended the chimney be replaced from the roof-line in order to guarantee there would be no leaks and do it right the first time. I had a second estimate / inspection performed the same day from another highly rated Angie's List provider and was basically told the same thing. I called Valerie back at Casey's to schedule the job. The crew arrived as scheduled on 10/24 and worked the full day removing and replacing the existing chimney. The crew was top-notch, professional, courteous, neat and thorough. The only evidence of the job being done is a beautiful new chimney!
