We are very happy with the care our property has had. The grass has never looked better or healthier. Corey has also given us ideas for improvement in the future concerning clearing brush and planting a living fence for privacy. He is professional and knowledgeable about his work.
Description of Work: Corey Landscapes has been cutting and maintaining the lawn and property at our summer/rental home for two years. Since we are only there seasonally, we have come to depend on Corey to keep us apprised of the condition of the property and yard.

Corey has been doing our lawn and garden work for over 10 years. He has been consistently reliable, thoughtful, and intelligent. He is proactive about figuring out what we need, and he is happy to take time to plan ahead and talk things over. Sometimes, we come home with a particular plant or tree (for example, we brought home tulip bulbs from Amsterdam), and he integrated them into the garden perfectly. His pricing is fair, and he will work with you to fit your budget.
Description of Work: Corey maintains our 1/3 acre suburban lawn and gardens.

I have worked with Corey for about ten years. I have nothing but praise for the excellence of his work, his attitude and his pricing. Corey is a man devoted to his craft. Our landscaped space (approximately 1.5 acres) is a an aesthetic testimonial to the quality of the work. He gives appropriate ideas and opinions. We happen to really like different varieties of Cut Leaf Japanese Maples. Corey has done a great job of Integrating the maples throughout the yard. He has improved and created many planting areas and carefully introduced new plants that compliment the existing plantings. Our lawns are in terrific shape - lush and green throughout the growing season. He cuts based on the individual light/shade ratio in different areas of the yard. I highly recommend Corey Rose.

I found Corey to be somewhat expensive, and did things like continue to blow leaves throughout the winter. My husband suspected that Corey was showing up to pad our bill, but I continued to have faith that Corey was doing what was best for my yard. Every year, Corey would fertilize my lawn, but year after year, certain spots would get worse and worse. Large portions of the lawn today are as barren as a desert. That being bad enough, I was shocked to find out this past December to find out that Corey had over trimmed my gardens, destroying hydrangeas, purple cone flower, asters, clematis, etc. This was years of growth cut back to within an inch of its life. That was the final straw. I withheld payment on from him, pending spring regrowth and fired him as my landscaper. Now, through some recent internet connection, he is writing me harassing emails. I have notified my email provider and am writing this report. I would not hesitate to post pictures of the damage to my yard if need be. Do not use this landscaper.

Response from Corey Rose Landscapes
I have owned and operated a small dedicated lawn and landscape service serving south county RI since 1999 and for the most part have relied upon word of mouth after my initial advertisement using flyers. It was not until recently that I had approached Angie's list to see If I could find any reviews for my service and I was dismayed to find this review to be the only standing representation of my business on this site. Because of this I am hoping to balance my reputation and have begun to pursue a more active presence on Angie's list as a result. I worked for [Member name removed] for quite some time, I believe it was four years from my first year in business in 1999 to the fall season 2006, though it was quite some time ago. Throughout this time period there was never any point where I ever suspected my clients disapproval, nor had I ever been approached with any of the above listed concerns, preferences or complaints. The Lawn as it was certainly did exist as a sunburned desert of sorts, the majority of which would dependably burn every summer leaving bare patches of sand and rocks. Without my customers ability to replace the gravel and sand that this lawn was struggling to grow in, my only option was to try to fertilize properly as any expenditure beyond a few hundred dollars for this full acre of lawn space was out of the question. If blame were to fall upon anyone for the overall condition of this lawn, it would be placed upon the initial developers, most of whom tend to leave the construction of a successful lawn to any future buyers. I had actually discussed solutions to these issues as it was agreed that something more would need to be done but any remedy other than re-seeding occasionally was refused. As far as I knew we were all aware of the issues, but affording more soil was out of the question so we left it at that. In the fall, my cleaning services begin on a weekly schedule in conjunction with lawn cutting. As the temperature drops so does the frequency of my visits until finally bi-weekly and then a final visit are possible. In the end I would ask for a flat rate to cover all leaf cleaning visits whether it was done in three or ten visits, it would end up being the same cost. While I have had to modify this approach over the years to make up for my time spent, at the time I took very little consideration for myself, so an early winter leaf cleaning stop could only benefit the customer. This situation to this day still represents the only case in which someone interpreted my diligent approach toward lawn care and cleanliness to be a malicious attempt to earn more money, most of the time people are happy to see their property cleaned and applaud the effort. As far as I knew my relationship with the [Member name removed] was always a positive one. Her husband was actually an exceedingly kind person from whom I never would have suspected any disapproval, and I hesitate still. There was always the opportunity to discuss any issues over the course of the five or six years of service that I provided but the years came and went without complaint. While I do feel like I have received an excessive amount of criticism in this case, I do admit there is a very definite accidental situation that has lead to this unfortunate outburst. The last fall that I worked for the [Member name removed], I had hired a friend to assist me through the fall leaf cleaning season. When we arrived to begin cleaning leaves for the day I had asked him to clear all of the excessive garden waste leaving behind enough to protect the perennials as I had every year prior without complaint, and as is expected of me in every case as part of the fall services. Unfortunately, my assistant took it upon himself to get some clippers from the truck, and he proceeded to cut down one of [Member name removed] beautifully and meticulously groomed hydrangeas. She had these plants groomed to perfection, they were her personal project that I only ever admired for they truly were perfect. by the time I caught him he had cut every stem back to maybe seven inches leaving one of her three hydrangeas in shambles. I let him know he was to cut nothing without my approval from then forward, and we continued to clean as usual. The following night I received an understandably angry phone call, she was upset and claimed not only that I should not have cut the hydrangea, but the dead remnants of her perennial Echinacea flowers should have been left behind as she wanted to collect the seeds for a friend. I apologized for the situation, and explained to her what had happened but she was less than receptive. Through the following weeks it became apparent that she intended to withhold any payment for all of the fall cleaning services I had performed across the entire season even after we had discussed a fair discount for the errors committed. I approached this situation reasonably, not in the criminally harassing manner as described. At the very least I thought I should have some resolution as she had become unreachable and unresponsive. Finally after some time, I did receive payment in the mail. The check came folded into a hand printed photo card showing an image of her Echinacea flowers in full bloom. Inside was an ill tempered note describing the ruination of her gardens and the fact that nothing would ever be the same. I am the first to admit fault where an apology is due, and over the years I have gotten much better at preventing any situation like this through thorough explanation and training but in the end mistakes do happen. After the years that I fairly cared of this property, and the supposed relationship I believed we had, in the end I would have appreciated a bit of constructive restraint and understanding. I would just like to thank the developers at Angie's list for providing this avenue for me to engage in this conversation but I suppose the fact remains that it may not be possible to please everyone.
