Response from Renewal by Andersen of Southern New England
Hi Ms. [Member Name Removed], first, thank you for taking a few minutes to share your review. We value all feedback--positive and negative--and use it to better our processes. It looks like you are located in Springfield, MA. We actually do not service that area of MA, so I believe you are looking for a different Renewal by Andersen location. However, I'm hoping to be able to provide some more clarity around this for you. Renewal by Andersen is a start to finish replacement solution. We do not do window repairs or glass replacement, only full window replacement. We handle the initial measure and design of your windows, manufacturing, installation, service and beyond. Due to that fact, there are fixed costs associated with the process that remain the same no matter how many windows are purchased. When customers are looking to have only one window replaced, for example, we have to charge the same amount as we would for three windows. The cost to you is more than just the cost of a window, it covers the full team getting the job done. We will absolutely replace one window for you, but do not want to overcharge you by having you pay the same for one window as another customer would for three, which is the number of windows that would need to be purchased to cover those fixed costs. I'm not sure if this was the scenario you were in, but hope I was able to help. Thank you again for sharing your feedback! - Alexandra Dignum

They were professional, accurate in their description of what they did and did for the price they quoted. The bank of windows has needed some minor adjustments and they have made them. They are expensive but they come with a good warranty and so far have been good to work with.

The crew arrived on time, worked quickly, but professionally and cleaned up to our satisfaction when finished. Although it was projected that it would take 2 days to complete the project, the crew completed the job in less than half the time.

This is a follow-up to my original review of February 9, 2017. A new sash was ordered to replace the one in which the glass cracked just after insertion of a window grille pin into the bottom of the sash. Four weeks later, on 3/9/17 a technician arrived and installed a new sash. All went well until he inserted a grille pin into the bottom of the sash -- the glass cracked, again. What are the chances that this could happen twice and with different technicians? Apologies were made and another sash was ordered. Five weeks later, on 4/17/17 the Andersen tech arrived with a new sash, installed it, and fingers crossed, the grill pin was successfully inserted. Yeah! My final assessment is that this small project to replace a bow window with three double-hung windows took far longer from start to finish (Nov. 2016 - Apr. 2017) than was reasonable, even without the grille pin mishaps. I do however, credit Andersen with persistence in bringing this project to satisfactory completion. Service can be a bit of a lengthy process, but they do follow through. I will say again, these replacement windows are beautifully made and energy-efficient. The technicians are professional, courteous and highly skilled.

The work crew came on time, did the work as promised, and cleaned up when they left.
Description of Work: I had my kitchen windows replaced. Instead of again using 3 sets of casement windows (which reach out an catch the breezes) I put in a small picture window flanked by the casement windows. I am extremely happy with them. I was surprised that even the new screens allowed for a great view.

9/16/16 Signed contract to replace a bow window with 3 double-hung windows. 9/26/16 Technician takes inside/outside measurements. 11/9/16 Installers arrive. Job not completed due to defective/missing components. Installer and I reviewed work completed, I signed Zero Defect Form with installer notes, paid balance due, holding back 10% for work not completed. 11/10/16 Call from Rich Cavanaugh, CRM. I am disappointed project not completed. He said I would hear from Service in about 2 weeks. 12/1/2016 I called Service, left message, no call back. 12/2/2016 I called Service. Told me I should get a call next week to schedule. 1/3/17 I called Service and was told everything in. Will call back with date. 1/4/17 Call from Service with date. 1/16/17 Service tech arrives without all components to complete job. After a couple of phone calls and much discussion he goes to local lumber yard and buys what he needs to complete exterior work and installs it. Interior work must be delayed until a window sash is ordered. 1/16/17 I call Rich. I am disgusted. Why was I told all components were in? 1/17/17 Call from Rich. Window sash has been ordered. I will get a call from service when it is in. 1/20/17 Call from Service. Sash will be in on 2/3/17. Completion date set. 2/8/17 service tech arrives to install sash and replace damaged interior molding. All work completed, but just as tech is leaving the glass in the newly-installed window sash cracks. A new sash will need to be ordered. And so the saga continues. My comment is this: The windows are well-made, energy-efficient, and beautiful. The installers and service technicians are professional, skilled craftsmen and do excellent work. Service administration and scheduling is inefficient and unacceptable. Installation of 3 windows should not take three months! On a positive note, the 10% I held back was waived as compensation for my inconvenience. Not holding my breath for the new sash.

The first time they came to install, the powder room window was the wrong size. A few other minor issues like missing nails and damaged trim were satisfactorily addressed that day. The box window was really well done and the installer did a great job on the finish work. Several weeks later the correct size window was installed in the powder room. The window was fine but the grids were wrong. A few weeks later they came back with the correct formation of grids but for the wrong sized window. We had not heard anything in many weeks. I contacted our sales rep two weeks ago today as we are about to start a major remodel and the windows should have been done months ago. He was going to get on it. Still had not heard back today so we called the company and I e-mailed our rep again. Customer Service called back with a song and dance blaming our issue on a temp, since fired. Since we had problems from day one that is not flying with us. We had used this company 3 years ago for a number of windows and had been disappointed in the installation and responsiveness then. We used them again as we wanted the windows to match and we were assured we would get top of the line treatment. The only reason I am not giving them an F is that I do like the product.

They replaced my windows in a timely manner. At first I was pleased with the appearance and quality of the windows from the inside, but I did not inspect the outside up close as the windows were all on the second floor. Two months later, in June, when I went to put up my awnings I discovered that the mounting brackets for the awnings had been removed and apparently discarded. As a result, three of my awnings can no longer be used. At that time I also noticed there was a sizeable gap, about three quarters of an inch, between some of the window frames and the house siding. Subsequently, I returned their written survey indicating my dissatisfaction and requesting that their representative contact me. I never heard from them again. I waited until October 5th and then telephoned their sales rep, Mat Taylor and explained the problem. He said someone would be in touch with me. That was three weeks ago and I still have not heard from anyone. For over two thousand dollars per window, I had expected better service than this.

Approach this company with caution. I'll explain... I'm sure once you've hired them to put your windows in they're on time, the windows are beautiful and keep your house warm, they offer amazing guarantees on them, etc. But I decided not to hire them, that we weren't a good fit, and the insane stalking began and continued until it ended with a slightly nasty, huffy rebuke. I had a couple broken windows. I saw that Renewal got good reviews here on Angie's List. I called them about what I needed. And let me say that ALL I wanted were the two windows replaced, that's it. I had to talk to a sales rep on the phone for a good 20 minutes about how great and custom-built the windows they make are, how my husband HAD TO be there when the red carpet was rolled out for their arrival at my home for the in-person estimate or she literally couldn't make the appointment for me. She also refused to give me any idea (and I seriously was just looking for a ballpark estimate, not for her to swear to an exact date) of turnover time between estimate and the windows going in. One of these broken windows was in my 5 year old's room, so I didn't want this to take too long. I agreed to the appointment. The next day another gentleman called me to confirm the appointment for later in the week. I finally got him to give me an approximate turnover time for 2-3 windows: 8-12 weeks, he told me. I politely cancelled the entire appointment then and there, telling him that this wasn't going to work for me, but thank you. Within a day of cancelling with Renewal, the constant phone calls began. Three, four times a day. Starting at 9 am, they would call me, let it ring until it went to voicemail, and then not leave a message, so clearly just trying desperately to get my business back. This went on for at least a week until today when I finally answered to put a stop to the harassment. Now, I'm most certainly not an aggressive person; I hate confrontation. When I answered, the gentleman on the phone (regrettably, I didn't get his name), in telemarketer fashion, asked, "May I please speak to Mrs. _____?" And he immediately jumped into his sales pitch. I told him what had been going on with all the phone calls and that I had cancelled with Renewal, that the 8-12-week turnover time was too long, that it just wasn't going to work, but thank you. "Actually, ma'am, the turnover time is 4-6 weeks." I asked him why I was suddenly getting a different span of time. "Well, I don't know who told you that, but that's incorrect information." And like a well-oiled machine he begins to jump back into his pitch, his script. I, trying to inject some humor into this colossally uncomfortable and bully-like situation, said, "Hey, how about we look at this like a relationship: this isn't working out and we need to take a break. I'd like you guys to stop calling me and perhaps later if I need to get new windows..." He interrupts me, the facade now fully dropped and says with a nasty quality that brought me back to high school, "Ma'am, Ma'am?! Why don't you just ask me to take you off the list?" So, I do. "That's all you had to say," he cattily responds. I'm too upset at this point to say, "Isn't that what I've been trying to do from the get go, with you patently ignoring me?" Oh, and, "What list?"

I sincerely apologize for your experience. We pride ourselves on providing homeowners with the best experience and clearly this was not the case for you. I have forwarded your comments to our team so that we can better our processes. We do have many positive comments from homeowners who have purchased from us but it always unsettling to hear when we have not provided a positive experience to someone. Again, I apologize and appreciate your feedback and consideration.

I've used them to replace all of the windows in my home over the past several years. They finished the work in one day and did a beautiful job.

I have had this window in my house for the past 3-4 years now. The quality, workmanship, and the follow-up afterward has been great. The craftsmanship is excellent, my curtains no longer blow, my heating bill went down 20%, and I haven't felt a draft in the house since they came for the install. The price was not cheap due to the window's size and the fact that it was custom-made, but they did help with financing to give me the best rate. There have been heavy winds and instances of severe weather but the window is unaffected and I haven't heard one whistle or noise come through. It's the best investment I've ever made.
Description of Work: I have a huge front window in my house. They installed a new custom-made window for me since it was so big. I also wanted crank outs on the side.

The first five were somewhat problematic in that the installation was faulty. Once I spoke with the company headquarters and discussed the problem and my complaints, they sent another crew out and completely re did the installation. They then did the other four windows. The work was fine and when I called after a few months for problems with the latch, they sent someone right away. If I had to do this review in December 2012 after the first installation the review would be F but they did fulfill the guarantee and correct the issue.
