Called on Tuesday, didn't even meet Karl but had quote in hand by Friday (because after all, do you need to meet them for them to see the roof?). Told him to go ahead and literally I didn't even have time to tell the tenants before he was there Sat morning. Done same day. Cleaned up everything. After my last time using him I knew his work was very good so I wasn't worrying about poor quality. Also unlike others, he will do part of a roof, good for those of us who don't have the money for all! What more is there to say? If you have roofing problems, call Karl, he'll make em vanish without any fuss. Oh, also - unlike some of my contractors who are a real old-school about communication. Karl sent an estimate by email. Then an invoice and receipt by same. I could reach him via email or text without problems. Perfect. Oh, and from last time, he was only roofer with a meter to measure dampness in walls, great if you have mystery leak.

KAC was the ideal contractor. Karl (the head) answered my request promptly, went to see the site (without me having to come too) within days, came back to explain the quote in detail, including showing me what to watch out for as possible hidden fees from other contractors, then followed up when I didn't get back to him, then when I gave him the job, he didn't ask for money until it was finished, but went to work right away, finishing the job in a few days, even in the middle of winter. Oh, and since we were trying to fix a leak that had confounded others, it was especially helpful that he came out to do an inside and outside assessment with some tool that measured water content of walls. (some other contractors didn't even want to go inside, much less have tools that could help pinpoint the elusive leak) It was also very very helpful that he didn't balk at doing part of the roof. At least one other (who had a good review on Angie's list) said "all or nothing". Then Karl came back to my house to pick up a check, deliver my building permit etc. He was also always available by cell. In contrast -- I was running a crazy game of phone tag with some other contractors, two made me chase them *after they came out* to get an estimate, none gave the level of detail on their estimate that Karl did, and that isn't even the worst of what can happen. I remember a year back my neighbor literally had to rehire a new roofing company after her old contractor (she'd used before!) just stopped the job midway. It took her 3 weeks to reroof her building. It took me a day to reroof (much of) mine. Karl was not the cheapest for absolute cost, but he was the cheapest I *really* trusted. (thinking back again to the neighbor's experience) Considering I can't test the leak is 100% fixed until the hard Spring rains come, having a contractor I trust to make it good even months after the repair is critical. If every contractor was like KAC --- their reputation of being hard to work with would be history. Glad I have a good and trusted roofer now I can rec to others. Oh and -- as a scientist I need to report the findings of another within group comparison I ran in this huge experiment to find a good roofer. A. ServiceMagic = Arghhh. Missing the real life reports of Angie's List which are so valuable. And the way they dole out your info to people who will then call you 1. creates more phonetag 2. Is much too mysterious for my comfort. How do they decide, what are real life experiences of people who've used those contractors? Plus -- each time I've used them they've called from Colorado to make sure my experience is going well, how can they help etc. Which you'd think would be nice, but just feels like more noise when you haven't heard from their contractors yet. B. Ask my trusted contractor to rec roofer? = Nope, he was clearly flailing a bit. And then rec'd one I saw had bad reviews on Angie's List. C. Ask friends? Roofing is too rare a service to get a good recommendation, most of my friends hadn't owned homes long enough to need it. D. Angie's List = more than I'd like to spend, yes. Tempts me to join/unjoin between needing big work done. BUT -- was the perfect solution for getting trusted contractor. Real reports, direct access to contractors, and good folk like KAC on board.

They did an excellent job and gave us a wonderful warranty.

In this day and age, anyone not monitoring their web services is missing a great opportunity. A1 Roofing in Newport not only responded immediately but had a truck to my house that day to take measurements, and the roof was finished within a week at a great price.

All I can do is start off by saying THANK YOU! We moved into our 1963 colonial 4/2010. Immediately after moving in, we contract L&L roofing to remove the existing shingles, and replace. Our house proper has a breezeway/garage extension on the side. What the roofer did was simply replace the roofing and apply weather barrier along the bottom of the roof. With regards to the flashing where the two structures meet, we were advised that it looked good. Shortly after the roof was replaced, we had water leaking through the house. L&L charged to come out and apply caulking and tell me its not the roof. As the year went on, we noticed water coming in when there was a combination of heavy rain and heavy wind. All of the contractors we called wouldn't touch this or help us out because the roof was only 1 yr old, the siding wasn't much older then 5 yrs and pushed us back to those contractors (our roofer told us its not the roof and we don't know who did the siding). Roofing companies won't touch and point the finger to siders, siders point to roofers. As I went through angieslist list reading all reviews I came across Karl at KAC who had write-ups where he addressed the same issue I was facing for other customers. Karl responded quickly and provided us a quote for $1500 to make the leak go away. I thought this was VERY reasonable and was impressed with his promptness and professionalism. Due to some financial challenges, we had to wait until November to call Karl back but he brought his team within 3 days of me calling and addressed the roof. 4ft of shingles were removed along with siding to expose that there was very poor flashing on the roof and no water barrier. The flashing was replaced, water barrier installed, and shingles/siding replaced. Two days after the work was done, we still had some water coming in, but not as severe as before, within 2hrs of calling Karl back, his team was back on site and quickly began troubleshooting. They found a second spot on the inner framing of a second floor window and addressed it. I am awaiting another heavy rain storm to be 100% positive that the problem is completely solved but I am very happy with the work that was performed and their promptness. I have no doubt that Karl will continue to stand by his work and provide any additional support that I may need. Thanks again and happy holidays!

The owner was lovely and honest. I had noticed somestaining. Another roofer, who only does new rooves, thought it was an old stain showing thru, perhaps from past chimney flashing issues. He was not sure, and recommended I contact someone who does roof repairs, ergo KAC. He agreed w/the other roofer, and recommended using a stain-blocking primer on the ceiling. I appreciated the honesty a great deal.

I called K.A.C construction on Wednesday afternoon by Thursday Karl came to assess the damage, he gave me several scenarios and costs. Suggest the best scenario according to my budget and to prevent further damages. Since it was going to rain all weekend, Karl was nice enough to call his workers and replace the damaged roof that same day. I had quality work for a very good price. Workers were neat and kept cleaning as they worked. Karl was great, very gentle and very easy to work with. From the beginning to end of our experience with this company, we were extremely happy. No answering machines or voicemail, no delays in returning calls, very fast and clear communication with the owner. He was able to come to our home - from another part of the state - within a day or two of our conversation. He called en route, arrived on time, and took a look at the job explaining what he thought needed to be done. . And, he was very clear about the work that had to be done. He wrote an estimate on the spot and sent it as an attachment to our email so we'd all be on the same page. He was prepared to do the job as soon as we had decided to move forward. Several phone conversations to set a day and time, and a lot of communication on the day of the job. The guys arrived, worked efficiently and did an excellent job, clearing debris and taking it with them. In short, the owner did not press us to replace the entire roof - as other companies had done. It was a relatively small job in terms of cost, and a lot of other companies did not seem interested in doing the work unless the cash return was huge. This is a great company, the owner is working very hard to build up a client base, and is very helpful in suggesting all options for the client. The owner hand-delivered the invoice a few days later and checked to see that we were happy with the work. In the meantime, there have been several heavy storms, a lot of rain in a short period of time, and high wind. For the first time in 3 years, our roof is not leaking. We will definitely call Karl to replace the entire roof when it needs to be done. And, we are telling people about the all-around excellent service and work he delivered. Five stars.

Request a quote. Was excited to hear that they would visit in an hour. They did not arrive until almost 3 hours later. The price was cheap so I asked them to proceed. They said they would do the work the next day but no one ever came.

We knew when we moved into this house that the flat roof on a rear addition needed replacing. KAC Construction and Karl came highly recommended from our realtor, and he didn't disappoint. He came to our house at 5:30 PM for an estimate, then delivered the estimate on the spot with his laptop and portable printer, but not before climbing out onto the roof, in the dark with a flashlight, to measure it and get a feel for the magnitude of the job. When we called to accept the estimate his two guys came the next day and, quickly and professionally, dismantled the entire roof and recovered it with the rubber membrane. The final result is excellent - everywhere there was an edge they installed flashing, sealed the seams, tucked it under shingles - it looks like the bottom of a swimming pool out there. And they cleaned up all their mess from our backyard very nicely. Karl himself is extremely friendly and solicitous, calling you "my friend" all the time, and he stopped by more than once to oversee his men and make sure they were doing a good job. The actual workers were quiet, professional, and although their English was poor they communicated well enough, and we trusted them enough to leave the house while they were working. We're having them back to fix a couple more trouble spots on the roof.
