Russ returned my initial call immediately and arrived for the scheduled appointment on time. He was friendly, appeared to be very honest and gave me several options as to how the steps could be fixed. He was willing to try to repair the steps to save me money but showed me what problems could result. I decided to have them rebuilt for safety reasons. He stopped by with samples of the brick and bluestone as promised and made suggestions as to what he thought would look nice with the style of my house. I really couldn't picture how it would look but trusted his judgement and experience. Work began and finished on the dates given. Except for the buckets and safety tape surrounding the porch, I never would have known that a crumbling mess had been there just a few hours earlier. Everything was removed neatly and absolutly nothing was left behind. On the day it was completed, I had one of the worst days ever at work. I came home and actually cried when I saw the beautiful job that Russ did on the steps! It is obvious that he takes pride in his work and I have gotten many compliments on my new steps. I have not had good luck in the past trying to have work done around the house and am very thankful that I signed up for Angie's List. I have recommended him to other people and would hire him again in a flash!

We have encountered no problems since completion of the job. He was timely, courteous, professional and went so far as to remove a pile of rocks that we were having a difficult time in finding someone for this task; he did this without requiring additional compensation. From our past experience with many different types of contractors, Russ stands out as top notch. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or hire him back; he's a keeper.

It was been leaking ever since and they did not fix the leak correctly. I have called and asked for him to come and check it out for me. He did come on time today to check out the problem. He has been responsive.

I called 4 separate people on Saturday and heard back from Russ fairly quickly to schedule an appointment on Monday. He arrived to the appointment 30 minutes late, looked at the project and came up with a quote 4x higher than the other masons that provided quotes. His reply when I told him his pricing was out of line was that if he didn't want to take a job, he priced himself out of the game. I appreciated the candor and sent him on his way.

He was very good and he exceeded my expectations. He did an exceptional job, he was very polite, and he showed up when he said he would. I just felt like he went above and beyond and his price was reasonable. He was tidy, timely, professional, and pleasant. When he came he went into the attic and onto the roof; he didn’t just stand there and take the easy way out. I was very pleased. I would hire him back in a minute.

Russ Monti is RM Masonry, so you don't have to worry about a crew not living up to the owner's standards. Russ is very professional and a good guy. He was right on time when he came out to my home to provide me a free estimate on the work, and even climbed up on my very steep, high roof to take a look at the chimney up close and measure it before providing his estimate. Based on other reports on Angie's List and my personal impression of him, I decided to hire him even though I might have paid a little less going with a bigger company. He discussed my options with me, was receptive to me adding my own specifications, and showed up on time to do the work. He helped me finish up my de-icing cable installation, going to areas I could not reach because I don't have a hook ladder. He did this first so I was free to go on with my day while he focused on the main work of building a cap on my chimney. He might have been able to complete the task more quickly, but I was glad to see he took his time to do a good, careful, thorough job. (I made it clear there was no hurry at the outset.) By the end of the day I had my chimney cap, just as I'd specified, and it looks great--like it was part of the chimney from the beginning. He also did a great job cleaning up, ensuring no bits of mortar were left behind on the roof or the faces of the bricks he laid. This was a challenging job because of the steep pitch and substantial height of the roof, especially considering he was working alone, but he did a very professional job. Definitely recommend him, and would use him again myself.

Russ called back promptly, gave an excellent price and did a great job. This was a lot of physical labor in front of a house that gets full sun al day and it was summertime. This guy worked very hard and the end result looks beautiful. Would highly recommend him to all.

Russ did top quality work on a job I had trouble finding others to take. The steepness of our roof combined with challenging site constraints that prevented use of mechanical lifts dissuaded 2 other masons from showing up to do the job even after they agreed to do it. Russ gave me a better price than the other masons and actually showed up to do the work! The job took him twice as long to do as he had originally estimated but he did a great job. He had to construct staging around the chimneys to ensure a safe working area given the roof pitch. He pointed 2 large chimneys and also parged (stuccoed) one of the chimneys in our attic to match the other one that had been parged decades ago. I will call Russ back next time I need a mason.

I spent over $1100. It was a fair price. I had a lot of work done in my house. In the process, my front steps were damaged and needed them to be completely redone. Despite having a tough time with the weather, he was always on time and he worked really hard. He stayed all day long to do the job. He was excellent. He had a great personality. He was interacting with my neighbors. The job got done on time. It was much faster than I anticipated. I would use him again in the future.

Russ made it a point to meet with me in person for an estimate, rather than doing a driveby and leaving something in the mail like other companies had done. While giving me the estimate, he took the time to explain several different options to help me work within my limited budget. Other companies had only suggested the most expensive option (complete rebuilding of both chimneys) without mentioning alternatives. Russ was very responsive from start to finish, always returned calls. If for some reason he wouldn't be available to work on a given day due to a conflict or the weather, he would give advanced notice and schedule an alternate day to come back. An unexpected issue, the top of one chimney had been rebuilt - poorly - by the previous homeowner. Upon repointing it still didn't look right so I asked Russ if he could rebuild the top layers. This was a difficult project due to the height of the chimney and was not something we had previously discussed. Despite this, Russ performed the extra work no questions asked and even refused to take additional money for the trouble. It was obvious that Russ takes pride in his work and will go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy. Overall the workmanship and price were great. I have since recommended him to friends and family.

Russ had actually quoted me on this job back in late fall, but we both agreed it wasn't urgent and we would recontact this spring. He recontacted me, honored his previous price and did a great job. He told me what he was doing each day, stayed in contact when we got rained out a couple days, showed me his work after (things like how to clean the chimney cap he added), and cleaned up very well. Extremely respectful, personable and talented guy. Need your chimney repaired or rebuilt? Russ is an expert and can be trusted to do a great job.

Called back right away. Arrived when expected. Work took longer than expected but delays were weather related.

Russ does an excellent Job and his price is very fair. Out of 4 guys I called Russ was the ONLY one to actually call back, come by when he said he would AND get up on the roof to actually look at what he was dealing with. His workmanship is ace and he goes beyond just completing the job by taking care of the little details. When he was done, the job looked great and I am confident it will last a long time because it was done right. I'd recommend him to anyone I know.

Russ was the only mason to return my call. He called as soon as he got my message. He came out when he said he would and gave me an honest opinion of my leaking chimney. The work was done on schedule and Russ kept in contact with me to give updates. He had all the contracts in place, too. Russ did additional work for free. He put stucco on the interior attic portion and it looks great! He stands by his work and called me the following week after a rainstorm to make sure there were no leaks. I've had a lot of people over to repair my chimney which was built only 8 years ago by professional masons who didn't get it right. Russ was more knowledgeable than any of the others. He really knows what he's doing!

I received 8 quotes for this job ranging from $6500 to $1900, with several in the $2000 range. I went with RM Masonry because he was the most knowledgeable, personable and happened to be the least expensive. He works by himself and has been doing masonry for over 20 years. He specializes in chimneys. He did the work on time, on budget and it looks terrific. He is insured and registered with the state board, very important for someone working on your roof. I believe he covers most of Rhode Island.
