Kilbrogan Interior And Exterior Painting

I had spent many frustrating months searching for a Painter with no luck, until I joined Angie's List. Shortly after becoming a member, I met with Dermot from Kilbrogen Painting. After meeting with Dermot and hearing of his prior painting experience and work in several upscale communities both in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, I felt I would be in good hands, and thus hired him to initially paint my living room. He took his work seriously, was reliable, and had a very pleasant manner. I was quite pleased with the outcome in my living room, as I was going from a darker wall color to a lighter color, which sometimes can be a challenge. He did a great job with wall surface preparation, which resulted in a great finished product. He also did the trim and painting of several newly plastered ceilings. I offered him the opportunity to have him help me with painting in a few other rooms, which included walls,trim and ceilings. Unlike the prior estimates I had been given, I particularly liked the fact that he worked alone, which kept the costs affordable. Yes, overall I am pleased with the transformation my home is now enjoying thanks to Dermot. On the downside, I feel there are a few negatives that belong in this review, as well. At times, Demot seemed distracted and thinking of his upcoming vacation, and skipped over a few things. He was always very responsive when I brought minor tweaks to his attention. Clean-up could use some major improvement-he left many empty paint cans and stirrers at the house for me to dispose of, not to mention the many paint splatters on kitchen counters, sink and floor which I found myself cleaning up. The biggest problem was in the sunporch, when I asked him to remove tacks from the walls and paint over the front door, as I wasn't 100% with how it looked when he finsihed. He apparently closed the front door while to paint was still wet. He returned the next day to correct his work. Today I am unable to close the front door and notice that he broke an antique doorbell on the front door. It was highly disappointing!! I can say that Dermot does good work, but I would be sure to tell him that daily clean-up and regard for other's property is also a part of doing a good job.

I first met Dermot in 2001 as we were nearing completion of a major renovation and addition to my home, an five thousand plus square foot 1850's ship captain's house. Once the actual construction was finished I hired Dermot to do all the interior and exterior painting and staining of woodwork trim and built ins for the entire house.The job included a lot of fine detail work on the new and existing woodwork and trim common in houses of that period. It required a lot of attention to detail and Dermott did a fantastic job. The end result was exactly as I wanted, looking like both new and old sections were original to the period. Since then I have used Dermot many times for a variety of painting and refinishing jobs, large and small, including another house I bought and renovated a few years ago as well as interior and exterior work at my office building which is a colonial era farmhouse and barn. Dermot is always meticulous and clean in his work and the workplace. He is thorough in the prep work, the painting and the clean up, during and after completion of the job. He always leaves me with well marked cans of any left over paint or stain and a list of paints and stains used, so if there is need for a touch up later on it is easy to find the right paint or stain. He has always been extremely reliable, shows up when he says he will be ready to start, and then every day until the job is done, weather permitting, and he always finishes the job within the time promised. I have compared his prices a few times over the years and have always found him to be very competitive and he always comes in at the end on budget or below. I have recommended him many time to my own friends and family and wanted to go on record to recommend him to anyone looking for a skilled, reliable, and cost effective choice for any kind of painting or staining work. Even though Dermot lives near Providence, Rhode Island, I know in addition to my work on the South Shore, he does a lot of work in this area and around the greater Boston Metro area. I can vouch for the fact that despite living an hour or so away, he has never failed to be on site for me as if he drove up from ten minutes away.
