I was Grossly Overcharged!! At the beginning of Thanksgiving week, I returned home from a business trip and noticed my mini Split heating system was not getting up to the set temperature. Another HVAC company referred GEM. The tech was friendly and diagnosed the issue.... low pressure= low refrigerant. He did not offer to do a leak check, but instead suggested I fill the system with the necessary refrigerant - R-410A. The price he quoted was $312 per pound. I immediately did a web search. In addition to finding out the average retail charge for this refrigerant was about $ 80-90 /lb. I also saw that you could buy a 5 gallon container of this stuff for between $200 - 300 per lb. SO... even if the $300 for 5 gallon price is wholesale, they are still marking it up over 5 TIMES!!! I asked him to put me in touch with his manager to negotiate price, and of course, no one responded. It was 2 days before a holiday weekend, so I had to choose between the hefty price or no heat

I clean my oil burner once per year. The usual cost is about $250. Gem arrived with a minimum "show up" fee of one hundred and 99 dollars. I had nothing wrong with my boiler , nonetheless when my cleaning was done (in less than 2 hours), I was handed a bill for over $700. If you want a typical oil burner cleaning and want to pay these shits over $760, then hire them. If you want a normal price of 250 to 300 dollars, go anywhere else. I will never in a million years use them again. I would rather have no heat. They truly are a junk company. John

We had this company install our central AC years ago when they were victory. The unit wasnà ¢à  à  t working and we called. They asked how old it was. I said I wasnà ¢à  à  t sure 25-30 years. They came out took the outside of the unit off and said we need a new unit. Ità ¢à  à  s too old to put freon in because a different kind is used now. He also said it was 21 years old. I get that but when I said 25-30 years they shouldà ¢à  à  ve told us then that it was too old to add Freon but instead charged us $199 to say we can send someone to give you a quote. That to me was poor business practice and they lost us as customers because of it. Not happy!

I have been waiting since 5/24 /24 for them to finish the installation of my Rinnai furnace. It is now 6/11/24. No response from email. No response from phone call if you find a number with a person in the other end.

We used GEM to put in a new water heater. Not only was it high in cost (parts and labor), but a year later when we found out that it was leaking we were told that we were out of warranty and it would be over $200 to simply look at what was wrong. We called another plumber who let us know that GEM NEVER PUT IN AN EXPANSION TANK!! (which is required by code). They told us we were all set, when in reality they charged us for something they never did. When calling them to ask why, they simply stated "they would call us back." We have called multiple times getting that answer with no call back. THEY ARE SHADY! DO NOT USE!

BEWARE!!!! Ryan sold us a new boiler. Ryan and the installers told us that Gem Plumbing would take care of the paperwork to get us the $500 rebate from RI Energy. I had to call twice to get to find out that we did not buy a high-efficiency boiler and did not qualify. To make matters worse we were told that Gem AND the North Providence Building Inspector needed to come and inspect the installation. I made an appointment for 8 - 9 today 2/16/2024. I called at 9 am to find out where they were, was promised a call back, but never got a call back, called again at 11 am was informed that they would have the tech call me he was in the next town over. Tech called me at 11:15 he was in East Providence. That is not the next town over, but it is a drive over the Washington Bridge that is currently damaged and traffic is being rerouted. Tech showed up at 11:55 without the building inspector he told me that the North Providence building inspector only requires photos. SO the installers could have taken the photos, I could have taken the photos. BUT NO I had to sit here for 1/2 a day and lose 1/2 a day of work because of Gems incompetence. NEVER EVER AGAIN!

We called a few Plumbing Services and found that GEM was the best fit. Even though they were not the "Cheapest" They were definitely the ones for the Job. My 91 year old mother contacted GEM earlier in the day and they were very patient with her. Nick and Brian were sent from their Drain Service team to take care of a sewage backup that we had. I am a DIY'er and I was going to attempt cleaning the pipes myself but my mother wouldn't let me. "Too many things could go wrong". She was so right. Roots got into our pipes and they they needed to be cleared away. A camera system to check the pipes was clutch. Nick was even nice enough to share what he was seeing. Ultimately a horrible day for my mom but Nick and Brian saved us. Also, I have to mention that Nick and Brian cleaned up after themselves and made the house exactly like it was when they entered. My mom especially loved that. You have to realize this wasn't your ordinary job. These guys worked their butts off for 4+ hours.(not a simple pipe clean-out). So thank you GEM for sending Nick and Brian to our home in West Warwick RI. I would recommend them to anyone, and I am.

HVAC guys are very knowledgeable Plumbing guys tend to overpriced things and make more than what the problem is

They do not treat people well, and they charge a lot of money for not a big job.

THEY WERE PLUMBERS AND NOT HANDYMEN LIKE ANGIE SENT OUT, WHO CLEAN SWIMMING POOLS, PAINT, INSTALL WINDOWS AND DOORS. ANGIE SHOULD DO MORE RESEARCH ON WHO U SEND OUT! BEFORE ANGIE I HAD A PLUMBER FROM WOONSOCKET,RI. C.J.NEMES,INC OF 37 CORY STREET. HE SENT OUT LUIGIE AND I THINK HIS NAME WAS GEORGE, LUIGIE USED THE WORD Fâ -K AT LEAST 10 OR 12 TIMES WHILE IN MY HOME. HE ALSO HAD TO BE ON SOME DRUGS, HE WAS SO JITTERY,MADE ME A NERVOUS WRECK, COULD NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO LEAVE. THE OTHER MAN TOLD ME WHEN WE WERE IN ANOTHER ROOM AWAY FROM LUIGIE THAT U HAVE TO TREAT LUIGIE WITH KID GLOVES, AND FOR ME NOT TO SAY OR ASK ANY QUESTIONS, IN MY OWN HOME AND I AM THE PAYING CUSTOMER. I KNOW FOR A FACT ANGIE HIRES FROM C.J.NEMES BECAUSE I HAVE READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS FROM SOME OF YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO HAD C.J. NEMES. MY LEAK WAS NOT FIXED AND I CALLED NEMES TWICE AND EACH TIME GOT A RECORDING, LEFT MESSAGES AND HE NEVER RETURNED CALLS.ALSO GEORGE DID THE BILL $175.00, AND I GAVE A CHECK WHICH HE CASHED IMMEDIATELY! SO I AM OUT THAT MONEY, AND THAT IS ALOT TO RETIRED AND ONLY A SMALL SS DEPOSIT EACH MONTH . AND U USE THIS THIEF!!!! I PROBABLY WASTED MY TIME GIVING U ALL THIS INFO BECAUSE U WILL PROBABLY NOT GET RID OF NEMES OR LUIGIE?

Gem? 99. ONE STAR REVIEW FOR GEM PLUMBING ON GOOGLE!! I had two high efficiency heating systems installed by GEM and was sold a BIG FAT LIE! Ryan told me that the heating systems would notify him via new Bluetooth technology if there were any problems with the system including if It was leaking, well a soaking wet basement floor and months of trying to get them to fix the problem and I am now stuck with a lemon of a system or inferior installation. GEM PLUMBING is not returning my calls or text messages. its almost like when I call them they see the phone number and just choose not to pick up the phone! the last response from them was they do not have any HVAC techs currently and the one before that was we do not work on weekends wish I could put the text messages up on here so everyone could see! What kind of HVAC company is this? I trusted this man Ryan with a huge purchase he was very nice and charming and had plenty of time for me when he was selling me the two units. Have not seen him or talked to him since no matter how many times I have asked his office to please have him call me! I am a single woman, and almost feel as though if I was a man this would not be such an issue if there was a man involved. I did not just get a small plumbing issue fixed I spent $20,000 on two brand new heating systems! ALSO I was promised $5000 rebate on each unit and after trying for a year and not getting any return calls or help from Ryan the time ran out for me to receive any rebate and I was no longer eligible so I was able to get the rebates. one of the things I liked was he told me it would be smaller and more compact. Now this system sticks out into a doorway it is so big! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. They do not do what they say, they oversell and under deliver and I have been told by too many people that I overpaid and on top of that they do not take care of their customers if there are any problems with the work they have done. Including if they do a complete installation of a heating system.

As new condo owners, we relied on GEM to help us through existing problems to get our unit up to speed with new heating, air-conditioning and bathroom venting. Each time we requested help, we were met with prompt and professional responses using their website for communicating with customer service. Although there were a few glitches to iron out, we appreciated their willingness to help us understand the process and correct problems as they arose. Weâ re very pleased with the results.

Gem sent two tech to evaluate the project. The attitude of these two guys made me a little uncomfortable with what I had in mind for my project. At that point I was planning to get another quote else where. In the meantime, Gem sent another tech who was outstanding. The tech understood my expectations. He was knowledgeable and personable. He made sure that I understood what to expect if the project could go the wrong way. He reassured me that he would address all issues. Overall, he completed the job and I’m pleased with how it all worked out.

The customer service was very good they were very attentive the installation crew was conscientious, professional, and pleasant, I would recommend them
