Excellent!

Got Calyx from Angie's List and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Our well-used 20-year-old kitchen needed a remodel with custom built cabinets to accommodate a person with handicaps. Bob Brierly is very easy to work with, always returned phone calls or emails promptly. Came immediately when needed and if something had to be changedor fixed, he was always there to oversee the work. Can't imagine a better experience.

Excellent, he did the job on time and on budget. We had a deadline and needed to have occupancy of the house in a certain timeframe. Bob was very professional, listens, and worked with us to give our home exactly what we requested.

A large, disruptive job that inevitably had a few surprises and slip ups along the way, but it was handled beautifully. Problems were dealt with quickly and professionally (e.g. a neighbor thought one of the work men had back over some flowers in her garden. She had no proof that it had been Calyx's guys, but Bob showed up at her house the next day with a bunch of replacement flowers-no questions asked). They were on time and on budget and Bob answered his phone virtually every time and came on weekends several times to deal with issues. The room came out great and if I ever have money again I will absolutely bid Calyx on our next job!

My husband and I read about Calyx on Angie's List and asked Bob to come give us an estimate on a remodel of our bathroom. It was not a huge job as we were keeping the basic layout of the room--although we needed to update everything, we did not need to move any walls, plumbing, or electrical. Bob was pleasant and professional from our first meeting. After taking detailed measurements and notes, he met us again and presented a thorough written proposal and contract. Although the estimate was a bit higher than we hoped, we chose to go with Calyx because of the professionalism and detail of his proposal. We had remodeled our kitchen several months earlier and had been disappointed with some of the workmanship of the contractors we worked with then. As they say, you get what you pay for. This experience was totally different. At every stage, Bob was in contact with us, explained what they were doing, when, and how long it would take. He listened and responded to our concerns. We needed the remodel done quickly, since this was our only full bath, and also because I was about 8 months pregnant at the time! Bob gave us a firm timetable for work and kept us updated as the job progressed. Also, the bathroom was located upstairs, directly across from our daughter's bedroom, so minimizing dust and mess was important to us. Bob visited the site every day to check on the work. He was friendly and considerate, as were all the subcontractors who came to the house. Bob did not use any general handymen but specialized subcontractors for each part of the job, even though some were small (for example, the electrician only had to install one light fixture and was only here for about half an hour). We felt confident that they were all doing a high quality job. The bathroom was finished exactly on time. The completed bathroom is wonderful and we can tell that it was completed with care and attention to detail. We were very happy with Calyx and would certainly use them again.

My goal was to have a new kitchen installed with a little disruption as possible, I wanted to hire a company that could meet my 30 day time window and work with my flooring contactor and paint contractor. I have heard horror stories of companies making promises of 3-6 weeks and actually taking 3-6 moths to complete the project. This was not the case, Bob came to my home met with my electrical contractor, paint contractor and flooring contactor. He started the construction on July 27, and completed the project in full in three weeks. I would strongly urge anyone looking to hire a homebuilder to hire this company.

The work was finished on time, on the money and with minimal input from me.

We had a very slow leak in our kitchen faucet which we didn't notice for a long time - so we had a mold problem in our cabinets. We knew we wanted to replace them, but we also decided to change the layout of the kitchen and do a full renovation. Bob from Calyx Homes came promptly to look and listen to our ideas, and he provided, after a day or two, a full, clear written estimate with computer renderings of the proposed changes. He worked with a great kitchen designer, who added her own good ideas to the design. By the time we were ready to sign a contract, we had a clear plan of the project that we were really excited about. Once the budget was agreed upon, it didn't change during the course of construction. There were no 'surprises.' Once we were ready to start the work, Bob did an excellent job of scheduling the project so that subcontractors came in one after another, with almost no 'wasted days' over five weeks of construction. He also timed the demolition and preparation of the space so that the cabinet installation could begin as soon as the cabinets came in - again, no 'wasted days.' The project was on time from start to finish. We were also very happy with the quality of the work by the subcontractors. We live in an older home, so there was a lot of complicated leveling to be done when the cabinets and floors were installed. Running new electrical wires was also complicated in our older house. All of this was done professionally and skillfully. In a major renovation, there are a lot of little details (like cleaning up the dust, and repairing cracks in walls, and installing all the new outlets we asked for, etc). Bob never forgot anything we discussed and took care of everything professionally. He gave us a call almost every night to tell us where the project stood and what was scheduled to come next, and to listen to any concerns we might have. In addition to all of this, he was just a very nice guy. We couldn't be happier with this experience. We highly recommend Calyx Homes.

I called. Explained my need. He was very nice, said he'd check with his electrician and call me in a day. I never heard back from him. Perhaps he lost my number. Perhaps he got too busy. Either way he didn't keep his word.

Big decisions are tough but our decision to use Calyx Builds (Bob Brierley) was, without a doubt, the right one. In a world where any guy with a shovel and a truck can call himself a contractor, we were highly discriminating when we took bids for our kitchen/family room remodel. We found Calyx Builds on Angie s List and checked their references thoroughly. The owner and general contractor, Bob Brierley, proved to be knowledgeable and accommodating from the start. His suggestions added important details to our plans that, in the end, improved the outcome tremendously. His detailed schedule and thorough contract gave us a precise picture of the project. His estimates for time and cost were realistic and accurate. Bob always answers his phone making him easily reachable; this is tremendously reassuring. Our job required coordination of carpenters, plumbers, electricians, a wallboard and plaster team, as well as a kitchen consultant. Each job was scheduled and completed like clockwork. Bob always called us the night before explaining the sub-contractor s up-coming task and arrived in the morning with them. Then, if he had to leave, he would check their work in the evening to make sure it was done correctly. Everyone involved in our project was professional and respectful. Also, each night the site was thoroughly cleaned-up and swept making the process easier to live with. Details are important to us and he checked with us along the way to make sure that the project was developing the way we wanted. If we wanted to make changes, Bob was happy to work with us and never became frustrated by the inevitable adjustments that often come up. The end result is even better than we envisioned. We will confidently recommend him to others and look forward to calling him again when his expertise is needed.

We hated our kitchen and it was the one reason we did not want to buy the house, but also the thing that made it affordable. Calyx (Bob, the owner) agreed to work with us through the whole project and spent a lot of time with us thinking and talking about a viable floor plan and how we might blend a new kitchen into a 1930s cape cod. He gave us a range of options for materials and explained clearly how the process would unfold and how pricing would work. We set a timetable (family coming to visit). Bob came out with a lead carpenter, and a crew, cleared out the kitchen of appliances, etc., and sealed off the room. Then Bob walked us through the project again, and orchestrated crews and subcontractors who did each layer of the work. Punctual, professional, they finished on time and on budget with no surprises, despite some problems along the way (like discovering mold and redoing a bathroom along the way). We love our kitchen. We love our house. Bob rocks.

I was so pleased with every detail this company performed that I highly recommend Calyx Homes to everyone. The company is well diversified. They build homes, renovated them and take on small jobs. They recently installed granite counter tops in my kitchen. Bob Brierly owner of the company is a hands on kind of guy and takes pride in all his workmanship. I am very satisfied and will continue to call on him for any future projects I may endeavor in.
