I had removed a bathroom ceiling exhaust/light/heat fan and I provided the new bathroom light and exhaust fan. The electrician killed one extra switch and put the extra wire into a closed junction box in the ceiling. The electrician, a third generation young man in this family owned business, was on time, provided excellent service and left my home in the same clean condition he found it. He even went out of his way to clean his fingerprints off of my bathroom ceiling. Overall quality and response time was excellent. I was surprised at the price, and I do have significant other work to be done, but I will probably put out bids with other Angie's list electrical contracters before contracting for these other significant jobs.
Description of Work: Installed bathroom ceiling light/exhaust fan that required a build out from the studs to support the replacement fixture as well as putting an extra wire that had previously been used to provide heat to the old fixture, into a dead junction box in the ceiling.

As noted in the "Services Performed" section, trying to locate old bell wires inside walls that are now hidden by new sheetrock is almost always an exercise in futility---in this case, as is often typical, the walls have to be cut open, and various pieces of sheetrock have to be cut out in what turned out to be an irregular wall, and unfortunately, two key bell wires were never located, in a system that had been functioning perfectly for many years-----the only alternative at this point is to run new wires from the front door bell switch, the rear doorbell switch, and have them all converge at a convenient point where a step-down 12v small transformer can be installed to power the system. However, the electricians persevered, and with their expertise, and the homeowner's knowledge of the available wiring runs and main panel electrical switching, the job was done in an additional 1 1/2 hours to the complete satisfaction of everyone. A callback was required the following day at 9 a.m. , when it was discovered that the electricians had wired the 120v line to a switchable receptacle box in the boiler room (an understandable mistake)----so when the boiler room lights were turned off (as they normally are) the doorbell system wouldn't work-----the electrician company was prompt in answering the call & scheduled a prompt callback appointment the same day to quickly re-wire the 120 line to a non-switchable source voltage. So there you have it----a 4-hour job to get a hard-wired functional doorbell system for the cost of $436 in a house that's close to 100 years old----was it worth the price paid? Despite the expense, I'm well satisfied that for me, I made the right decision on this deal-----as the homeowner, I was directly involved in all phases of this two-day project; the electrician company consists of a very experienced, professional middle aged man and his 3 sons, also very experienced & professional who were all in & out of the house at various times during the work activities---they welcomed my assistance in identifying wiring runs & main panel arrangements, and I enjoyed working with them---in fact, I had a blast. I'm just not a fan of wireless doorbells, but they're improving all the time, and I'm sure there are units out there that can operate on a 120v household voltage with a step-down transformer to a 12v system that doesn't have to rely on batteries, and can be installed on a DIY basis, or for much lower cost by an electrician----the time & labor of running wires thru walls and floor joists is what drives the installation costs up so high for this type of project, and I don't think in most cases there is any need for it.
Description of Work: The company was called from Angie's list to activate a hard-wired doorbell system in a recently remodeled apt. in a 2-unit house; a previous sheetrock contractor had been hired to install new sheetrock to the apt. and had inadvertently covered up the wiring in the previous location of the doorbell chimes-----the general location of the needed wires inside the walls was known, but in such cases, electrician companies use a tool called a tone generator together with a tone probe to locate the hidden wires---and not all of the wires could be located. I was aware before calling the electricians of the option of installing the newer wireless doorbell systems, but several factors made me opt for hard wired: 1) this is a traditional house, many years old, and wireless seemed out of place; 2) numerous internet reviews on wireless doorbells did not conjure up very reliable systems; 3) wireless doorbells rely on batteries that have to be periodically replaced; 4) many wireless systems have functional problems operating in buildings that have aluminum siding, as mine does. So after the electricians spent 2 hours of fruitless search, and cutting a 4 square foot hole in the sheetrock in one wall in a vain attempt to locate the old wiring, only one wire leading to the rear doorbell could be located, so the use the old bell wires location had to be abandoned and another 1 1/2 hours was spent running new wires for the front door, the rear door, installing a new 12v step-down transformer, installing a new bell chimes (provided by the homeowner), and running new bell wire and a 120v romex line to connect all the mentioned components.

After a post-Hurricane Sandy power surge, possibly from National Grid work in the area, we lost our cable box, modem and a couple of surge protectors. At around the same time, we noticed a loss of power in a bedroom and bathroom, which revealed a broken breaker switch. As our usual electrician was unavailable, I went to Angie's for another local electrician and found Mallozzi Electric. The owner, Gary Mallozzi, promptly answered the phone himself, was very pleasant and glad to help, and offered to come by the next afternoon but would call in the morning if he could arrive earlier. His son, Rico, phoned the next morning and promptly came 20 minutes later with his brother, Gary. We weren't certain if the loss of power was caused by the local power surge, but they took the time to ask questions about how and when the loss of power happened, discovered a faulty circuit and replaced a 20 amp mini-breaker. After a couple of start and stops of power in nearby outlets, all was well and we were back in the light again. While they were there, I had the guys take a look at an old, antiquated exterior light outside the back door which we had been meaning to replace. Not only were they more than willing to do this for us, they did it right then and there, and even offered to go out and buy the fixture for me. Before leaving, Rico explained some suggestions for a future upgrade of our aging electrical service, without pressure or obligation, and at a reasonable price. Mallozzi Electric is a family owned and operated business, and we could not have been happier. Rico and Gary were pleasant, friendly, professional, and eager to help. My husband, who found our previous electrician to be overbearing and a little arrogant, was especially pleased with these guys and will be all too glad to make this company a permanent name on our list of contractors. We'll definitely call Mallozzi again in the future for all our electrical needs.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting of a power loss in a bathroom and bedroom, possibly due to a post-hurricane power surge in the area. Installed a new replacement 20 amp mini-breaker, and a 2-head exterior floodlight including bulbs and vinyl block.

Gary said that he would come and take a look; he gave us his time for free on the phone, and then promised to come and take a look. He came to our house and, as promised, sized up our house and discussed our options with us. He never pressured us to hire him or tried to sell us anything, but gave us his honest, expert opinion. We would definitely hire him to do a job for us.

The Mallozzi sons did most of the work on a very hot day and Dad, Gary, stopped by. All the guys were courteous and friendly and knowledgeable. They cleaned the area where they dug well and were careful with nearby plants. They also installed a motion sensor on existing flood lights. A few days later I had a problem in the kitchen where an outlet and the garbage disposal didn't work. The sons came again and found it was a loose wire in the breaker, but they replaced the breaker to make sure, tightened all the others and didn't charge me. Maybe it had something to do with the work they did previously but in any case, it was nice of them to not charge me for the small job.
Description of Work: I needed power in my garage so the process involved adding a breaker in the basement, drilling through the foundation to the outside, then digging a trench to the garage, about 6-7 feet, drilling through the cement garage and installing an outlet on the wall, a light in the ceiling and an outlet for the new garage door opener (installed later by Overhead Door).

20' ceiling with a motorized lift cable. Mallozzi Electric assembled the new chandelier, removed the old one and had the special parts to attach the new chandelier to the motorized lift. I'm pretty handy and was going to tackle this job myself, but the "special parts" required to attach the 100 lb. chandelier left no room for "I think this will work". Clearly a job for the pros, and Mallozzi Electric did a great job.

Our basement lights stopped working (after we had unrelated work contracted in an upstairs bathroom). Basic handyman troubleshooting couldn't get the lighting problem resolved. We called 2 recommended electricians from Angie's list and Malozzi was most responsive so we hired them to troubleshoot the issue. They came out the next morning, investigated for a bit and presented a few options on how to resolve the problem. I was very happy with the level of service and the courtesy I experienced. I also felt the price was fair for the service performed.

I called Gary (owner) with a couple of small jobs - he was very pleasant and scheduled me within 2 days (neither job was an emergency). The 2 guys who came were Gary's sons - Rico and Gary (Jr?). Both were great - very professional and friendly. I had a ceiling light fixture in the basement replaced. It hadn't worked since we moved in and I was sick and tired of a whole section of my basement being dark. Took Gary only 15 minutes or so to get that part done. No problem. The electrical post for our above ground pool was fried and they fixed it right up. It took some finessing as they needed to put in a support that was missing, plus had to go get more supplies/parts. I was impressed, they really took the time to get it right, but still finished relatively quickly. Rico also told me about a couple things that needed to be taken care of in the near future (without being pushy - thankfully!). Price seemed about right for the quality of work. I feel I received excellent value for my money with Mallozzi Electric. I was hoping to find a reliable, competent electrician to work on projects around the house and thanks to Angie's List, I now have one!

The work was fine, they were a little bit on the expensive side but we were calling them on an emergency basis so I can’t really fault them for that. They were very good at telling about us where we could save money before they got here by getting parts ourselves instead of having them get them. I don’t know how much different place would have charged, it was more than I wanted to spend but probably I would have spent somewhere around that with anybody I call. The work was fine. They were very nice and very responsive. I don’t have any complaints about that.

This company is GREAT! I called with a problem with an electrical outlet for a stove. I called them around 0830. They sent someone out in about an hour and the job was done by 1030. They explained the problem, and then checked the electrical system in the house (which I just bought) just for good measure. You will not go wrong calling them. I will DEFINITELY call on them again!
Description of Work: Replaced electrical outlet used by stove. I just bought the house and apparently the outlet has never worked. In the process of troubleshooting, they noted that the improper wiring was used in the outlet, resulting in the outlet not working. Because of this problem with the wiring, a bedroom outlet on the other side of the wall also wasn't working. Replaced out of code wiring with proper wiring and corrected problem.

I emailed and they called within 1/2 day. Came out a diagnosed the problem on Friday, returned Monday and finished the job.
Description of Work: 1790's house - very old wiring 1. Replaced wall switch for bathroom fan/light unit. 2. Diagnosed inoperable ceiling fixture in upstairs hall. Used diagnostic equipment to discover that the current carried by one of the wires was inadequate. He suggested replacing the wires. Any opportunity to upgrade the electrical in our old house is one we can't miss. In the end they replaced the wires from the fixture to the switches and replaced the switch at the botttom of the stairs, and reinstalled the fixture. Also, we asked them to install a new fixturre in the downstairs hall, while they we at the house. All was completed quickly and now we can be confident that we're not going to have a fire in the walls!

First on Friday night a breaker went out and i could smell burning electricity. We called gem and they came out four hours later at a $100 late charge. The guy told us that the smell was from the breaker and he could change a $2.37 part for and additional $200 and a $178 service fee. He treated us like morons. We asked him to leave. Our biggest fear was fire, so I still stayed up all night til I could get a breaker. I changed it and it didn't work. I'm not an idiot, I know the basics of house wiring, from working in the industry. I found Mallozzi Electric on Angies List and called them. They were here within a half hour. Within ten minutes he found a box right above the breaker box that had CAUGHT ON FIRE. They worked very fast , intelligently, and fairly. This place was a very dangerous mess before and it had always made me nervous, but now I feel much safer. I will be calling them again.

They came promptly after my initial call. They determined the problem and switched out some circuits that were damaged. They determined that I needed a new cover for the wiring outside, and said they would come back on the first dry day. Everything was fine during the two days before they came back to do the outside. They were here for about 9 hours. I can't really speak to the charge, since I was not going to take the time to get estimates.
Description of Work: The problem was that my lights would dim and then brighten. Some outlets wouldn't work at all at times, then they would start working again. They found that water was getting into my electrical box.
