HIP Construction

As a subcontractor to Home Depot, HIP Construction took a speed approach to the installation, and lacked workmanship. In the end, they did not correct their errors and we had to pay out-of-pocket to complete installation, correct both their errors and their poor workmanship. Not all of the mistakes could be fixed however; the uneven corner shelving and misaligned skin, as well as the soffit overhang by the pantry is too costly to correct, or pursue February 5 HIP Construction does final measuring of kitchen space Compares final kitchen measurements to cabinet order, before order is processed March 29 Cabinets installed by HIP Construction Punch-list/Missing Item list filled out by HIP and reviewed with customer Concerns Width of cabinet to right of sink too small, leaves a 3” soffit overhang Overhang of soffit (3/4”) by pantry At the other end of the wall from pantry, upper cabinet door and wall-oven location too close to space for refrigerator, preventing installation of refrigerator. 3/4” would have allowed for refrigerator to slide into position. Wall-oven installed flush to left edge, as a result refrigerator does not fit without repositioning of oven Right refrigerator door cannot open without moving cabinet doors Microwave opening: Trim has seam and one incomplete edge May 7 Moonshine cabinets swapped out for Mushroom cabinets Utility Pullout by cook-top installed Utensil pullout installed ROT installed under cook-top Concerns No Punch-list/Missing item sheet made available or reviewed with customer Cabinets (2) flanking kitchen sink too wide, Not HIP’s mistake Utility pullout drawer incorrectly installed and rubs against plastic in both directions Cabinet hardware not installed Skin next to cook-top vent incorrectly installed. Corner shelving not plumb and shims used to patch issue, results in an uneven shelf and gap Due to obstruction of gas line, bottom ROT installed with a 6” gap at the bottom without advising customer. Note: gas company returned to move gas line over to allow for functional positioning. Did not install stand alone cabinet door May 11 HIP Construction provides an incomplete punch-list for final installation HIP Construction did not followup nor respond to scheduling request May 25- Had to pay-out-of-pocket for the following: Installation of cabinets on left and right of sink ROT re-installed at appropriate height Wall-oven repositioned away from left edge for refrigerator installation Cabinet doors above wall-oven repositioned to allow refrigerator door to open Opening for microwave; remove side of outside edge with seam and complete installation of all four sides of outside edge Installation of hinge restrictors. Install cabinet hardware Wall-oven unit is off center, but the refrigerator fits

I felt the work was done poorly for the price. I would not use them for another project.

We feel that contractor quoted one price and then bumped the cost 25-30%. We felt that we were being taken advantage of (bait & switch).
