The movers arrived on time, and were polite during the day while they were working. When the end of the day came and the time to sign the paperwork, I was rushed through signing due to a 'family emergency' that the head mover had. I was told that the inventory sheet was simply a check list to see that all items arrived on the other end. Upon further inspection, the inventory sheet is actually much more than just a list of items. There is also a place for the movers to put any existing damage to any item that they are moving. But George Arpin's company put down that just about ALL of my belongings were damaged in every way possible. This is fraudulent and was an extremely distressing thing for me. I have never been "moved" before - I've always done it myself, so I had no idea that the company would be so dishonest. During the packing, the movers also decided to pack my 5 gallon Poland Springs bottle full of change, even though their company says that they do not move money. And guess what - that bottle never made it to my new place of residence. Go figure. In addition to the missing bottle of change, I am missing multiple items - my kitchen table, bookshelves, gardening equipment, bird feeders, etc. Plus many of my items were damaged either in packing or in transit, including my brand new solid oak pantry that I purchased from The Mill Stores not more than 6 months prior to the move. I would never ever recommend this company to any of my friends or family. They are dishonest and apparently irresponsible. I have no real hopes for the return of my missing items, and very little hope for repairs to what was a beautiful oak pantry. I am filing a claim with them, but I really do not expect a whole lot. If their service thus far is any indication, I won't see any retribution from this company. BEWARE.

Response from GEORGE ARPIN & SONS INC
First, I would like to say that the member or her employer hired another company to perform her move. George Arpin & Sons was contacted by that company to perform a survey of items being shipped by the member. We performed the survey and forwarded the results to that company, as they are the company handling the move. They asked us to perform origin services for them including packing and covering pick up. This means we go in and pack everything up that we are told to pack per the company that contacted us. If for some reason that company cannot get a truck in to load her shipment on the agreed pick up date, we are to take an inventory of all the items that are being shipped and load the items on our truck and bring back to our warehouse to await the driver coming in to bring the shipment to the destination address. Per the company's request, and the agreed packing and loading date determined between the company and the member or her employer we went out and packed up all her belongings that we were supposed to be packed and loaded all her stuff onto our truck and brought back to our warehouse. Whenever we load a shipment that is going out of state we take an inventory of every single item that is being shipped. Every item when inventoried gets a sticker with a number on it so it can be easily identified. A short description of each item is noted and the item number and the condition of each item. Conditions include if an item is scratched, dented, torn, rubbed, soiled, etc... Whenever and inventory is taken, the driver marks down the condition of the items at destination, the shipper has the opportunity to check off and look at each and every item on the inventory to ensure everything was received and to note any exceptions to the original conditions taken on the inventory at time of loading. This is done so that the carrier can determine liability of any damage or loss, should any occur. Liability would then be determined by the carrier and subsequently all Claims are then handled by the carrier and would be settled based on the amount of coverage chosen by the shipper or their employer when the move was booked with the carrier. In regards to her table top that she reported missing, that item has since been returned to her. That item was missed by the driver that came to our warehouse to pick up her shipment to bring down to Georgia. It was left behind and when we realized it was here, we contacted the company and asked them what they wanted us to do. Finally they told us to pack it up and ship it via a package delivery service. On 8/21/08 the table top was picked up and it was delivered to the member's address in Georgia on 8/26/08. As far as the Poland Spring bottle filled with money. The shipper is required to arrange non carrier transportation for this. Any jewelry, coins, currency, stocks bonds and any other valuable items and or legal documents are to be transported by the shipper or another way. We cannot ship money and we told the shipper this on the day we packed and loaded her items. Any other items that she is reporting missing are not here at our warehouse. If in fact she did not receive them, the carrier will settle any claim based on the valuation coverage chosen by her or her employer for her shipment. I would also like to say that George Arpin & Sons has been in business since 1903 and a company does not stay in business for so long by being dishonest. This company has built and impeccable record with the Better Business Bureau and we have an outstanding record with all of our carriers. Our success comes from many years of satisfying our customers and providing high quality moving services. We have done what we can to resolve any issues regarding missing items. We have returned the one item that was left behind by the hauler that picked up her shipment from our warehouse. The table top that was reported missing by her has been returned to her via package delivery service. Any further claim for missing and or damaged items must be filed with the carrier and is handled directly with them through the entire process. Sincerely, Jesse Coddaire - George Arpin & Sons
