We had a lot of trouble finding a contractor to work on stucco. Part of the reason the problem got so bad is because there aren't a lot of people that do stucco. Of the contractors we found on Angie's list, only Manny from Sousa's Stucco was willing to look at the problem. It did take him an extra week to get back to me but when he did he explained that I had a large, potentially dangerous problem. He offered to come out the following day to explain it to me in more detail. He did as promised and it made much more sense to me when I could see what he was describing. He told me the price to fix the problem was $6800 which was much higher than I was expecting. I asked him for a written estimate that I could show my husband. In the meantime I did some research and realized that it would be a lot of work to fix it correctly and $6800 was probably a fair price. It bothered me that I didn't have anything to compare it to (another estimate) but I thought it best to go ahead with the work. Manny was very responsive, he started the job the day I hired him. His crew completed the job over 4 consecutive days. They were professional, clean and efficient. Manny came by the first day and looked at other sections of the house. He advised about the best way to maintain the old stucco and didn't try to convince us to do additional (unnecessary) work which I appreciated. Overall I am extremely happy with the work and relieved to have it completed. The price may have been a little high but I'm glad to have the problem resolved and I will call Manny if we ever have any future problems with our Stucco.
Description of Work: We found a large crack in the stucco finish of our 1920's home. The crack was about an inch wide extending about half the height of the house. The crack was large enough that water had rotted the wood underneath and the stucco separated from the wood. It was actually a very dangerous situation, the siding could come down from a large portion of the house at any time. Sousa's stucco removed the stucco finish from approximately the lower left quadrant of one side of the house. They also removed the rotted wood (it crumbled to dust at the touch) and replaced it with new plywood. They covered that with durock cement board, a coat of wire mesh and cement, followed finally by the stucco finish. I think I am describing this correctly but I may have missed or misstated something since i'm not a contractor.
