 + -1 moreI called Schwartz Landscaping to set up an appointment to get a quote for tree trimming. There were about 5 trees (1 very large) that were overhanging my house and filling the gutters with leaves. David Schwartz and I met early one morning before I left for work and discussed the job. David showed up early, and was very professional and knowledgeable. He produced a quote and gave me a worst case lead time of when he would be able to do the work. He ended up calling and scheduling to do the work about a week earlier than the worst case. The job took one day and was done well.

 + -1 moreHe came, gave me an estimate, advised me NOT to have the tree sprayed because it wouldn't be too effective and the tree will need to be replaced at some point. Then he walked around my property telling me the names of some bushes I didn't know (new house) and giving suggestions or additions. What a helpful guy! Definitely calling him back when the tree does finally need to be replaced.

 + -1 more1. excellent job when the owner came out to look at my trees and my neighbor's. He was very professional and knew what he was talking about - knew the types of trees we had, what should be done to them, etc. 2. I told him not to come until a certain week, and he was fine with that. 3. They came at 9, and the owner told the crew what to do with both our houses, and they got to work. 4. Very professional - worked carefully and quickly, using both a bucket truck and ladders; one man even climbed the tree to cut some branches. 5. They respected my wishes not to cut down too much. 6. Owner had said that a tree in the backyard had to come down - was taller than my roof and squirrels could get onto the roof. It was a "volunteer" "garbage" tree, so I was willing to have it removed - he was the only tree person who realized this. They cut it down and put something on the stump so it won't grow back. 7. They noticed a bee hive that just came and told me how to remove it. 8. Clean up was excellent - even swept off the garage roof over which they had cut branches. 9. Owner gave me information about URI's plant department and told me how to send them some leaves from my mountain laurel for information about fungus. The work was done both at 617 Hope Street and 11 Whiting Street - we arranged for the company to come and do both houses at the same time.

Description of Work: Removed enormous maple. Ground its stump. It was in a location with too little room between houses to bring in a lineman's bucket. Tree could only be taken down by someone able to climb it, with a chain saw, and lop it off branch by branch. Schwartz's firm was one of the few that had someone able to do this.

 + -1 moreDave Schwartz gave us a very prompt quote, then modified it slightly to include stump grinding (at no extra cost). His crew showed up exactly when scheduled, did the work very professionally in about three hours, with no damage to wires surrounding the tree that was removed (about a fifty foot tree). All debris was cleared away and all work was done as agreed. And - the cost was about $200 less than another bid from a firm highly ranked on this list.
Description of Work: Three large conifers were damaged by this winter's blizzard. Two needed to be pruned and one very large red pine needed to be removed.

David Schwartz got back to me right away when I called on the phone and was able to make an estimate and perform the job in a matter of a week. His team was extremely professional and careful. They were able to preserve a new fence that we had put in very close to the tree. David Schwartz is also an excellent nature photographer and has his work posted on the same website as his tree/landscaping service.

 + -1 moreI contacted two tree services and Mr. Schwartz was very much on the same page as myself with his concern to keep as much of the trees as possible and retain some aesthetic balance and shade. The other company wanted to cut everything out. My main objective was to have a safe tree environment but retain as much as possible. I appreciated his attitude toward the trees and environment. Since I live in another state I have not seen the results but he was prompt and my tenants are pleased. Everything was cleaned up.
Description of Work: Mr. Schwartz reviewed my situation and gave me his opinion and evaluated my needs. He was very considerate of my concerns and objectives. He advised me of my legal obligations to my neighbors and was very prompt and professional and completed the job to my satisfaction.

 + 0 moreThe job took nearly an entire day. The team removed and chipped all branches so the yard was tidy afterwards. One long hedge was trimmed back nearly six feet and looks beautiful. They refused to cut a rhododendron back as low as I wanted it because they said it would look awful for too long, and I needed to take it in stages over two years. They were right! We had a very bad storm a few weeks later and all the old trees held up just fine - no big downed branches. If Dave's team hadn't done their job right, I would have been in trouble. The yard now looks even more charming, and refreshed. Nothing is empty or awkwardly cut. You can't tell a crew took out tons of branches, all you know is it just looks so much better.
Description of Work: I just bought a house with a hugely overgrown but very charming yard. Dave was recommended by a local garden designer as the best guy for trees. First, he spent about 45 minutes carefully examining all the trees and shrubs before he gave his recommendations and an estimate. Then, he and his team came about a week later to do the job. They very carefully trimmed branches from each tree and shrub - lopping away tons of suckers and heavy growth to let in light and reduce the risk of falling branches from storms. Every cut was made with high consideration for the shape and beauty of the tree, as well as the view from the interior and exterior. I've never met a tree guy with such a design aesthetic before!

He demonstrated expert knowledge of trees and landscaping. He also mailed me proof of his insurance coverage prior to performing the work as I had requested, and called the night before the job was scheduled to confirm they would be there. He did a beautiful job and the trees look fantastic. There was no mess left whatsoever. This is a totally professional company and it was a pleasure to deal with them.

Description of Work: I had a large tree in the backyard of a rental property which had a large limb which was damaged and in danger of falling on the house. The limb needed to be cut and the rest of the tree needed to be trimmed.

 + -1 moreThe best way to describe what you get from the company is "a hard day's work". I cannot believe the amount of stuff these guys accomplished in one day. Totally professional and courteous. Take the time to explain what they are doing. Seven trees needed major trimming. Each one was over a structure AND had power lines next to them. They worked like a welled oiled machine. Safety first. They also pulled out a number of bushes and ground down not only their stumps but other ones the previous owners had just left. There was a tight squeeze in one section for the grinder and one of my down spouts was smashed. They told me about and were out the next day with a new piece and fixed it. Can't say enough about David and his crew.
Description of Work: Full day of trimming, bushes removed, stump grinding, and fertilization.

After his visit to the property, he gave me a lot more excellent information and advice on how to proceed with the work. I quite liked his style. I'm planning to hire him in the coming months for one or two days of work to get started on taking back the property from the overgrown vegetation.
Description of Work: I was buying a house, and wanted an expert opinion on the condition of the trees and landscaping. The previous owners had allowed the very good landscape design to become overgrown. The property also had several dead or dying trees.

 + -1 moreHis attitude from the beginning was quite rude. I understood that he must be very busy and was happy that he came only a couple days after I called so I overlooked his attitude at first. His estimate was extremely high and when I commented on it he described all the work that would go into taking out the tree. He sounded very knowledgeable and I'm sure that his work would be quality work. I also asked about keeping the wood and he grudgingly gave me another estimate. Needless to say, I will hire this guy no matter how much he knows about trees or how good his work is. I'm willing to pay for quality but not to be treated so poorly.
Description of Work: Mr. Schwarz came by to give me an estimate on removing a large maple tree that was damaged by Irene.

 + -1 moreVendor seemed to expensive and did not give us confidence that he was focusing on what we needed.
Description of Work: I quoted this service for cutting a branch of a tree in my frontyard which is almost hitting the cable line from my neighbor and leveling the tree as it is leaning towards the street. The vendor called me the day after I contacted him in the phone and we made an appointment for the same week. He was punctual the day of the appointment. We discussed trimming of another 3 trees when he was here. However, he seemed more focused on other trees than the tree that we consider the most risk in the house; he seemed more concerned about trimming and making the foliage look good. When I pointed the tree that I was more concerned about, he did not seem to see any issues, until I pointend out the big branch hanging, to which his response was "oh, yeah... you have that..." Furthermore, when I pointed out how deviated the tree was towards the street (due to an uneven cut that my neighbor's contractor did when we were on vacation); he indicated that this was because the tree was "following the sun". None of the other trees in the same area are deviated as they are cut even... but maybe they are straight because they are not "following the sun". The vendor quoted $1800 for the trimming of the 4 trees. Our trees are not very tall and the branches to be trimmed are not very big. This price and the experience over the assessment made us desist from using this vendor.

 + -1 moreI left a message with the company on a Sunday afternoon. They returned my call the next day to gather all relavant information. Later in the day I received a call confirming what it was I was looking have done while they were at my home and I was at work. David said that they could do the work and the neighboring tree "would still look like a tree." I liked that the look and health of the tree was as important to him as was doing the work. This showed me true quality, experience and expertise on his behalf. They estimated that they would be able to do with the work within a week but it was done within 3 days. I did not even know the work was done until two days later because they did such a good job cleaning up after themselves. I was billed within a weeks time. The entire experience was easy front to back.
Description of Work: Schwartz Tree Care and Landscaping pruned some very large branches that were over hanging our property from a neighbors tree. These branches were directly above our garage and touched the third story of our home allowing a perfect roadway for the neighborhood squirrel to make a home in our home.
