Yesterday morning, quite unexpectedly, our hot water heater burst and began leaking in the basement. I quickly reviewed professionals on Angie's list and came across Malone plumbing in Cranston - with great reviews. We called them and they were so helpful and courteous on the phone, reviewing the different options for replacement and cost. They arrived at our house at 3pm and were so friendly! I have a big, very friendly dog that just wanted to be around the guys the whole time. They were good humored and exceedingly patient with him! The finished the job around 5:15pm and you would never have known they were ever there. Without ANY hesitation, I would use Malone plumbing again, as well as recommend them to anyone! They were so knowledgeable about products and water usage, I trusted their advice completely!

When I called, Jim was super friendly and was very clear about the cost ($56 dispatch fee, $32.50 every 15 minutes plus parts). He said someone could be here within a few hours, between 11-1pm and that he'd call to let me know when he was on his way. He called at 11 to say that someone would arrive within the half hour. sure enough, John arrived by 11:25. i really appreciated the communication about arrival time - i wasn't wondering at all about whether he would be late or on time. John had a great sense of humor and answered all my questions. He asked me first before cleaning the drain, which i appreciated since they charge by the 15 minute increment. When John was completing the paperwork he made an error on the time he arrived, so accidentally charged me double for labor. This was quickly resolved and new paperwork was drawn up. i didn't call anyone else to get estimates, so this might be pricier than other places, but the responsiveness and quality of service was excellent. i will definitely call them again when we need plumbing work done in the future.
Description of Work: John came and fixed three things: 1) changed the flex line under the leaky sink, 2) cleaned sink drain and gave me the great tip to use peroxide to clear out the algae build-up, and 3) replaced springs and washers in shower valve to fix a leak. parts = $22. the rest was dispatch fee and labor.

Its nice to know that Malone Plumbing stands behind their work. I will always use them and refer others to them. I was very happy with Mike and Paul who had come originally - but if for some reason there is an issue - Tom will come and make sure you are allset. Everyone is so nice there.
Description of Work: I had an issue with one of the toilets I had fixed a few months ago. The owner of the company - Tom Malone came out to see what the issue was. He replaced the part that was leaking - then checked out the other parts of the toilet and replaced what needed to be replaced at no charge.

The painters were using a second floor sink while I was in the basement watching what I thought was a leak from a fitting. Further exploration showed that the three foot length of cast iron pipe had cracked between the fittings. Sensing that this was a bigger job than my mother's usual plumber was accustomed to (replacing faucets, installing new toilet etc.) and having had a good first experience finding a floor finisher on Angie's list, I went back to the list and found Malone Plumbing & Heating. I called, explained my problem and was told that someone would be at the house the next day between 11am and 1pm. I got a call back saying that someone would be at the house closer to 11am (which was helpful information since I live 40 minutes away). I received another call that day at 12:30 pm saying that the guys were running late. In actuality, the plumber didn't arrive until 1:45 pm due to some miscommunication on their end and he got a sense of my irritation. However, he was very gracious and didn't become defensive. I showed him the problem pipe and he and the apprentice started right in. As it turned out, the Y fitting also ended up being replaced. The problem was repaired within an hour, the area was cleaned up and the drains checked. Ten days later, we receive a query from a potential buyer of this house, that their home inspection done four days earlier had revealed a clogged line in the kitchen sink drains (same line that had been repaired on 9/24). So, I'm right back on the phone to Malone plumbing who are ready to send a plumber out immediately (3:30pm) to see what is happening. I didn't feel like paying overtime charges and it wasn't an emergency as the sinks weren't being used daily at this time. So it was decided that thy would send someone the following day (Friday). They called again Friday and told me that the owner would like to come out and check the problem and would Monday be alright - I had no problem with this. I was given an approximate arrival time (the dispatcher and I joked about whose watch they were going to go by) and as promised and on time, the owner and the plumber who had done the original repair arrived! The owner was gracious, checked the repair and acknowledged that there was definitely a clog further down the pipe. They opened the pipe, cleaned out whatever was clogging it and reconnected it. Note: Selling a house is a pain and I had just about lost any sense of humor I had when this process started. Having to worry about repairs and the cost for my mother was also an issue for me. Thankfully, Tom Malone and his plumber handled my stress as well as they handled the clog and the icing on this cake was that he did not charge me for the second visit!! Even though the cause of the clog could not be determined, I appreciated the company's willingness to address the issue at no cost to my mother.

The estimate was high, but I decided to use the company anyway because of the reviews. He was very friendly, kept the areas he worked in tidy and explained everything ahead of time. He was unable to fix the disposal (it is quite old, not surprising), but he fixed the wiring so I could take it off the circuit and gave me estimates on replacement and removal. The toilet is working fine again. The final cost came in at less than half of the estimate. The cost/hour is probably higher than others, but I'd rather pay a little more and not worry about quality.

From start to finish, the experience was excellent. The estimate for the work and boiler was exactly the price paid. Owner's staff was punctual, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves. Owner also showed up at completion to check work and status, then stayed to show me details. The pipe and duct work was professional and flawless. I would use this contractor again and again, and recommend to everyone.

I called in regards to the hot water (or lack thereof) coming from my shower. I was immediately told that a visit to my house to give me an estimate would cost $56. As I was expecting a free estimate, I found this ridiculous. At that time, I decided that I did not want to use this company.

It went fairly well. They couldn't find the issue right away, and at times I thought that they weren't going to be able to find the issue. I wasn't pleased that a hole had to be hammered into my ceiling, but I guess they had to...He replaced a part on the sink that forced the sink to be at a lower angle which doesn't allow for the existing enclosure to fit back in...They did the job and fixed the leak, but i'm left with some clean up tasks (ceiling, sink enclosure)...I give them a B for their responsiveness and courteous service. It would have been an A if their wasn't a hole in my ceiling. Also a plus that they took credit cards!
Description of Work: Malone Plumbing came out to find a water leak that was coming down into my kitchen from my upstairs bathroom. We weren't sure where it was coming from. The plumber had to hammer a hole in my ceiling to find the problem. It was finally determined the origin was the sink, and he replaced a part on the sink that had "fallen apart".

The service technician arrived at the set time, professionally introduced himself and had me describe the problems. We looked at the faucet first and came to the above conclusion within 10 minutes. He then worked on the the heating problem, fixed it and explained the problem and showed me a faulty zone head. The labor charge was exactly as estimated, however the $130.00 price of the zone head seemed high.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem and repaired baseboard water heating system zone in basement. Also reviewed leaky faucet problem and explained that the existing faucet may not be repairable after trying unsuccessfully to disassemble key components, He explained the problem and recommended a new faucet. He also provided details of the unit and named 2 supply houses who would stock these items.

They did a nice job. They did find a problem with the sink itself with a leak and gave me some recommendations on how I might patch that if I didn't want to spend a ton of money to do the whole thing. I did what they said to do and it patched it. I used some epoxy stuff. I didn't get a bunch of bids. I had used them about four years prior to replace a toilet upstairs and since they did a quick and efficient job, I was satisfied with that. I just called them back again.

Arrived on time on day. Malone on site with uniformed crew in company vans. Introductions. He went over the job with the crew, with me, details were discussed and the men sent on task. The plumbers have arrived; work is being done. They worked smoothly, quietly, efficiently, tidily and respectfully. The job was done in half a day with a 2 man crew and two super visionary visits from Malone, the second of which was during the finish, he met with his crew and than with me. After finish was discussed, business was closed. In a day or so Malone returned with receipt. Malone was responsive and timely to any further requests.
Description of Work: Cut and cap existing supply lines to 2nd floor bathroom and kitchen from the basement. Run new copper pipe to kitchen (1/2") and bath (3/4") on 2nd floor. Kitchen has running water and pipes are insulated. Pre-existing cold water still tied in at toilet and sink (for constructive purpose). No hot tied in. But all pipes in place and of proper size for future renovation.

As I've said before (the plumbing stack replacement, work on my ancient steam heating systems, etc.) these guys are GREAT. In this case, my downstairs tenant's heat stopped working again, seemed to be a problem in the control wiring or the gas valve to the (ancient) boiler...I live in fear with this thing, as I can't afford to replace the whole shooting match right now. ANYway, the thermostat is newish (Malone installed it last year when they did the major plumbing work in the house) but of an old and hard-to-find type necessary to run this old gas-converted former coal boiler. The wires are old and brittle, etc. - anyway, I was pretty scared that it would be major trouble. Tom Malone got back to me within 15 minutes of my call, and was here 10-15 minutes later. He worked through all the possible checks and causes in the switching, verified that connections were good, and then that the gas valve (ancient, not replaceable) was also working (phew!), cleaned/recut the connections both at the boiler and at the thermostat upstairs, and it all seems to be working again. I'm delighted and asked him how much, he waived it "we put in the thermostat, right? Coulda been a broken wire from that" - I owe him, big time, I'd say - but it was a HUGE relief in this economy and given how broke I am, too. When the time comes and I can (or simply must) afford to replace the whole setup, I have no question who I'm going to call. These guys (Tom and all his crew I've encountered - they had recently repaired/cleaned the low-water cutoff on this same boiler back in October - did a good job for a very fair price then, too!) are professional, stand by their work (!!), quick, do a clean job, etc. - can't rate 'em highly enough! I design houses in my own work, and know something about what goes into all this, and have worked with PLENTY of plumbers in my time, at all levels of scale from the one-man old-timer up to big corporate types in Boston doing multi million-dollar jobs (when I worked for a larger architecture firm doing such projects) - these guys are the best I've seen, hands-down.
Description of Work: Diagnostics and repairs on a nonfunctioning steam boiler, likely due to some bad connection in the thermostat/control setup somewhere along the line from thermostat to gas valve on the conversion burner on a (VERY) old coal-to-gas-converted boiler. Tom Malone himself did the work, promptly, logically, and swiftly.

Overall problem came up when one of the techs went back to install the seat cover. After he was installing it, the toilet developed a crack. I do not know if the toilet had a crack or it occurred as the last part was being done. The problem was I had a 'new' toilet installed that could not be used. I spoke with Tom Malone and we discussed the overall problem. At first he wanted to charge me for a new install. This did not make me happy as I just spent 325 for this toilet to be installed. I told him I would call him later, as I had 3 other contractors in the house and they needed me. Tom showed up 1 hour later with a new toilet (I did have to pay for this) and installed it. I appreciated his response and we came to a happy medium in regards to the toilet install. Highly professional which I appreciated, especially when things go wrong.
Description of Work: Needed a new toilet installed. I had purchased the toilet from a home improvement store. Two techs came in on the days I had off for lots of contract work on house and did the job in about an hour.

They were excellent. They asked if it was an emergency, and I said "no but I would appreciate a fast response", they sent someone out the very next morning. There were two sinks that had a problem. Once they figured out the main problem with one sink, they asked if I wanted to make a large repair. I asked if I needed it and he said, "not if you aren't comfortable". He was was very professional and honest. I was charged the hourly rate, but a little extra for a part that needed to be installed.
