We have been using Just the Basics for about 2 years. They are reasonably priced and extremely flexible. They do a great job for us every month.
Description of Work: Just the Basics does normal house cleaning. They charge by the hour and its a perfect way to sometimes add tasks that may only require less than monthly attention.

We needed a pre move in deep cleaning of our 2 kitchens and 2 bathrooms. Went to inspect before I paid for the work and found the counter tops, cabinets, and stoves all to be poorly cleaned. When i called back to let the owner Brenda know I was unhappy she lets me know that she can’t afford to send a whole crew back, I can send one person. They came out still did a poor job on the re clean so I sent them away. So in my opinion very Poor customer service! She also trie saying that poor job was due budget constraints, which it was not. I described the work that needed to be done and was told no more than 2-3 hours, I never stated we had a set budget .

customer said his home is for the most part is clean. customer was told we charge by the hour . we do not give estimate but he controls his budget. he ask for us to clean for a certain amount of time. upon arrival we notice he had construction and repairs still being done. he denied repairs were still being done in his home. which you can see construction work everywhere. I mention to him that we should need more time and he was opposed to having more time spent there cleaning. we return to redo cleaning while he was there. he said what he wanted done. we did everything he wanted cleaned plus some. we did ceiling fans , moved his stove away from the wall. clean behind it , and was told by client it look good in person. I had mentioned to client when cleaning during repairs the dust will return and the cleaning should be done when he finished. I also mentioned that construction cleaning dust should be done in a two step action, once to remove dust and grime and then to rinse and shine. it takes time for dust to settle after the repairs are completed. the customer did not want to spend the money for cleaning. . he did make payment in full . we offered to return when construction was completed at a discounted rate.

They came every Wednesday. They were professional. The owner of the company came by herself with 2-3 crews. They did a good job.

I am handicapped and they have been excellent in assisting me. They even purchased small furniture for me and they delivered it to me as well. They go above and beyond and I would highly recommend them.

Excellent they come every month and each time I have them do something different. Between scrubbing floors,changing bed and dusting to cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. Including the oven.

I purchased a Groupon for this company good for 3-3 hour house cleanings. I ordered the first cleaning in February, and it was fine. But summer rolled around, and I was planning a house party. I called the company (which answers the phone "hello"--I always had to ask if I had the right number) a month in advance just to make sure that I could get the day I really needed. The woman (presumably the owner--she never gave me her name) promptly told me that I would have to wait because I had purchased a Groupon. She would not commit to a day for any Groupon customer, even that far in advance, because we had paid less than her usual fee for the service. After much discussion, in which she told me that Groupon didn't pay her enough, etc. (isn't that HER problem, not mine?) and several phone calls, she did schedule the cleaning. The crew was fine--I have no complaint about their work. But then came early November, when I realized I still had another cleaning due, and called to set one up before the expiration date of 11/13. Again--no way was she scheduling me as a Groupon customer (second-class customer). When I pointed out that I had paid for the 3 cleanings well in advance, and expected to have the coupon filled, she told me Groupon still owed her some money-- so she would not clean my house until Groupon paid her! When, again, I pointed out that I had purchased the Groupon in good faith, and, as a responsible business, Just the Basics should honor that--she flatly refused & told me to call back in a few days to see if Groupon had paid her yet. I did so yesterday (with gritted teeth)--and she smugly told me that the Groupon clearly says that it doesn't apply to holiday weeks, and since it expires during the holiday week (Veterans Day week) she had no reason to honor it. She would, however, give me a deal--half price for a cleaning, but no, no honoring of the Groupon. Whoopee. This business is the most unprofessional I have ever dealt with. Not only did she consider me a second-class customer, she honestly seems to believe that I should pay for what no doubt was her mistake in under-pricing the Groupon. Had she honored it, in spite of her problems with Groupon, I no doubt would have become a regular, full-paying customer. No way now.

I purchased a Groupon for three 3 hours sessions of housecleaning. A day or so after I purchased, I called to make an appointment. They didn't return the call, so a week later I tried again. They called back the next day and scheduled my 3 cleanings; the first one wasn't for about 6 weeks but the next would be 2 weeks apart at the same time. Fast forward to April 20, when I am hosting a bridal shower and waiting for them to arrive between 10:30-11am so I can do the other 80 tasks on my to do list. By 11:30, they hadn't showed so I called and left a VM (I've never had a live person answer the phone). At 12:00 I called again, then set to work cleaning my house since it was clear they were not going to respond. I contacted Groupon and got a refund. Today, a woman showed up at my house to clean!!! This would have been the 2nd on the 'every other week' rotation we had planned. I sent her away and told her she should look for another job, since hopefully this terrible company will go out of business soon.

Had to remake the bed. She threw away two items that she decided were no good ( a picture and a broken tray). She cleaned off the surfaces, never putting anything back. A rug was put back upside down. Furniture was moved and not put back...etc. I complained to a woman who promised to relay message. That was never done. When a man called to reschedule, his only offer was to send the same young woman back to fix it. He then told me he would call back to reschedule the next appointment. He never called. I have had a fair number of cleaning services. This is terribly badly managed. I had scheduled three cleanings. I have cancelled the two others,.
Description of Work: Got this service through a Groupon. The idea was to clean the house. Vacuum, dust, change beds etc.

I am writing this review at the suggestion of Officer Dan Silva of the North Kingstown Police Department. After trying different employees of Just the Basics, I settled in on two who were slightly more than adequate. Many of the others did not clean well at all. No one from this company who cleaned my house was ever even remotely on time. They came on a call-in basis as we are not always here in this house. I developed a trust in these two people, although I was always here when they cleaned. I always tipped them well to encourage them to do their best and to show my appreciation. This last time that they were here, December 21,2012 I gave them extra money as it was Christmas. I feel I was always fair and kind to these two people. After they left, imagine my dismay when I noticed that the contents of my medicine chest had been moved around a bit. On further investigation, I knew a quantity of pills were missing. The pills missing were tranquilizers and pain killers that were prescribed for me. I am totally positive that no one else had been in my bathroom since the last time I looked at these pills. I had foot surgery and I have been confined to my home in a cast. I called the agency right away, but they were closed for a week at Christmas and didn't return my call until much later. I called the police on December 23, 2012 because I felt it was the right thing to do. Officer Silva responded to the call and agreed that I did the right thing but told me that without any proof there was really nothing the police could do. Most people don't put nanny-cams in their home, but it may not be a bad idea. He told me he would contact all involved and he expected a total denial. The two people that had cleaned my home agreed to talk to the police, but then never showed up. They refused to answer his calls. The "manager", Brenda, finally called me and at first offered to pay for the pills, which I refused, and then started chastising me for giving these people a "record" with just my say-so. I'm the one who felt violated and yet she tried to put me on the defensive. The result , of course, is that nothing happened to these people. I knew nothing would. I didn't see anyone take the pills nor did anyone else. Pills are missing and you have absolutely no proof. Officer Silva maintains that I did the right thing in calling him and he suggested that I tell others through Angie's List ,and other sites like that, about my experience with the company Just The Basics. After having other people clean my house for years, I have learned that I now must follow whoever comes through my home and keep a watchful eye on them. I would never use Just the Basics again as they obviously employ someone of questionable character and they treat loyal customers very badly.
Description of Work: I had been using this company for over a year, off and on. They did basic cleaning of my bathrooms, kitchen and occasional dusting and vacuuming.

It was difficult to reach someone that could make an appointment - either no answer, or no call back , or call between certain hours and the same would happen. Once we were able to schedule an appointment they did arrive on time. The first two that came out finished most, but not all the basic housework - but I was fine with that because they did some of the backdoor scrubbing and stair cleaning that I don't get to with all the grandkids here during the day - that was fantastic! However, they were not sent back. The next visit had two other folks that did an okay job. Nothing extra and they still didn't finish. The third group were good. They were here a little extra time, but accomplished all the basics very well. All in a busy day, it still helped a great deal
Description of Work: Had purchased 3 2-hr cleaning sessions. You must provide all of the cleaning supplies - plus vacuum and mops. Basic dust, vacuum, floor mopping, clean bathrooms. The first two cleaned stair back boards and backdoor - fantastic!

we did offer to go and redo this cleaning. also what he failed to mention is that they have been very happy with our services in the past four years of service. along with the fact the person for cleaning their home was let go. we were shocked she did such a cleaning. we are sorry that the handwerger's did not let us in to redo the cleaning.

Lady who answered telephone and scheduled appointment, promised to check back with me to make sure I was satisfied with the service. Well the call never came just like the cleaning crew that first appointment.
Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment at 2:00 and they never showed up! No one even called to say the crew was having problems finding my home or that they were running behind. Once they did arrive the next day, supposedly sending their best crew, they left sink full of items, didn't take out trash, and did NOT use the product I asked them to use on my brand new flooring in my newly (2 months old) flooring. I really felt as if I shopuld have just cleaned my own place & used the money saved for an hour massage. They really STINK, BIG TIME. Don't DO IT! give your money to charity instead, you will be left with a better feeling aftrewards-

Member home was cleaned on the day after scheduled because she would not open the door to us when our cleaner arrived on the day of the visit. her condo was a little hard to find and wanted us to go call her when arriving. unfortuately i do not give out the numbers to the cleaners . I was not in the office when the cleaner arrived there. after locating the building and waiting outside her home for over an hour and half the client then said come back tomorrow. she was upset because we did not call her. we do not call our clients when the cleaners arrive at their home. this is too time consuming. we do not believe in over staffing our office and bring our costs higher to keep an extra staff member for 40 plus hours. Our clients are aware of the time of arrival and the date of cleaning. We did call back to client and she was not happy about the about somethings not done. however when you pay by the hour. you are in control over the time and you control the cleaning. To my understanding the client did not want to pay for the extra time. The client controls the rooms and the items being done. unfortuately her home required more time. She did not want to pay for any extra time. also; she did not pay $60 for the cleaning. she recieved $60 total in service' time. however she paid $35. for the cleaning. She was aware of the time and of what she would have liked cleaned. she choose to do other items on the list first.

I called to schedule an initial cleaning appointment. It weas scheduled for 8/23/2012 at noon. When no one showed up by 1 pm, I called to see what had happened. I was told I would ge a call back "right away" with a status.Forty five minutes later I called again and was told the cleaner was on her way and should already be there. I asked why she wasn't there at noon as scheduled and was told "I don't know." I asked why I didnt get a return call and was told "we are very busy I'm trying to answer all the calls".I then cancelled the appointment. Ths is not the kind of srvice I would expect on the initial call. I am sure things would only go down hill.

I am sorry about what happen to Member. No excuse can change the bad incident that had occurred. all we can do is try to correct it and apologize. We will do our best to try to correct these matters from happening in the future with any of our clients. Just the Basics understand that someone's time is very valuable. We understand the frustration of waiting for someone and not knowing what will happen The combination of not having a call, waiting and having to rely on someone is a very tense situation. We will do our best to try to correct the matters at hand to improve our company for all of our present, past and future customers not to have to bear this unfortunate horror again. With this being said, My new receptionist will be reprehended for the way she answered the phone conversation to Member. This matter will be handle immediately. Member should have received a call with in fifteen minutes from his first contact to the office. We did call the cleaner immediately and was told by the cleaner she was on her way. When we did not hear from the cleaner nor the client again we assumed she was there. afterwards we had learned about what had happened. she was stranded on the highway. her car radiator and fan had broken down. We called Member. We offered him two free hours of service and he was told we will be there with thirty minutes. which he obviously declined because we could not get in to the house, it was locked. again all we can do is apologize and try to offer a means to correct the problem. we did offer a very nice discount. ( he would have paid $40. for a four hour cleaning) We cannot control a vehicle. things happen. people and cars brake down. some of the cleaners do not have cell phones. some cleaners have prepaid cells and run out of minutes. We try our best to please the clients. When we spoke to Member and explained the situation; he stated he understood and also stated he would have let us in if he could have someone open the door for us. just the basics has also stated the two hours of free service will be in the computer should he like to try is again in the future. Just the basics strives to achieve customer satisfaction with all departments with in our company.
