Description of Work: Brown's Glass installed a new shower door. Door design leaked from day 1. The glass door continued to slide out of hidges and required constant adjustment. Installers returned a couple times to adjust the glass door. Shower installer replaced floor pan as the threshold was slopped outward, but since the glass door leaked at the hinged joint and also would continue to slide out of the hinges we had to change to a completely different shower door supplier/design. Nearly every conversation with Brown's resulted in the same reply "We don't cover leaks and / or no one else has ever had problems with our door". Frankly- I don't care about other peoples doors. Bottom line is the door installed in my house did not perform as advertise. We talked to the owner about returning their door for a refund/exchange but he continues to ignor our voice mails.

Door leaked immediately in the middle at the overlap. I did not recognize name of manufacturer. Brown's came out several times with different "fixes" that did not solve the problem. They ordered new door from same manufacturer that provided longer overlap. Second door leaked from day one. They stated that they had to absorb the cost of door number two as the manufacturer did not stand behind their product. At this point, they stated they had no answer for us. My suggestion and request is that they replace it with another manufacturer's product, such as Kohler, which co-incidentally, I installed at second home at same time, which is without issues. They have written me off, with continued leak- a splatter like problem EVERY time, the shower is used. Update to Company's Response: I believe the time line to be accurate. My wife "chose" the door installed by Brown's at the suggestion of and recommendation of Mr. Wagner. Neither of us had heard of this product, but took him at his word. Yes, Mr. Wagner and his installers came out several times and eventually replaced the door. His "fight" with the manufacturer is his battle and the price of doing business with a company that does not stand behind their product. Our shower(no tub) does have a shower head with removable hand held wand. I believe the majority of new installs come with this option. His characterization of "waving the hand held wand around" is a misstatement of reality. I use it as it was designed. It is not stationary. I do not aim it at the "void". Indeed, approximately the same time, we were remodeling our second home. A similar, dedicated shower without tub and a detachable hand held wand. This Kohler door has NEVER leaked. The most obvious difference is that Mr. Wagner's door has a four(4) inch overlap of the two glass panels and the Kohler door has a five and a half(5 1/2)inch overlap. I tested Mr. Wagner's theory about his accusation of my wand use, by leaving it in place for the entire shower. After more than fifteen(15) showers this way, there is still a leak, each and every time, unless I stand still up and under the shower head, almost against the controls. I will admit that the leak is less, but still present. I believe the door's manufacturing with the smaller overlap is the problem. It is a shame that neither the manufacturer, nor the "expert" installer company will stand by their product and do the right thing.

Response from BROWN'S GLASS & GRANITE
I was contacted by [member name removed] on 11/27/2013 to measure for a shower enclosure that she was in need of. I went on the appointment on 12/3/2014. During that appointment I had measured the opening for the shower enclosure and then proceeded to show [member name removed] the different types of sliding enclosures that I offer. I showed her the brand Alumax Bath Enclosures by Sapa. We looked at a few different options and I reviewed each with her as [member name removed] was not home during this appointment. She had chosen the Sliding shower enclosure Model #350D which is a sliding shower enclosure that comes as a glazed (Pre-assembled) kit. The Opening for the enclosure is 58” wide x 76” tall. The manufacturer has “stock” units that range from one size to another that if you find your size the stock enclosure will fit. (See Attached Sheet) Going by my manufacturer’s recommendation that the size is indeed between 54” to 58” stock unit, that is what I ordered. We went to the [member name removed] residence to install the shower on Tuesday December 17, 2013. We were then contacted by [member name removed] saying the shower was leaking. We scheduled a follow up appointment on Friday December 27, 2013 to try to resolve the leak issue. We in fact through that we had installed the shower correctly and repaired any possible leak that we thought may have existed. We were then contacted again by [member name removed] saying the shower door was still leaking so again we set up an appointment to come out to resolve this issue and I as the Residential Manager for the company had gone out to investigate with my installers. Upon further investigation we determined that [member name removed] is using a hand held shower wand that sprays all over the place while showering (as one of my guys demonstrated while there) and that [member name removed] is getting water all over the place while showering and waving the hand held wand around. I contacted the manufacturer and asked fit they could get me replacement glass as we through that the overlap of the panels was small. They replied to me that it was within specifications of the unit and they would not warrant new glass. With this being said to use we try to fulfill our obligations to our customers so I purchased additional glass at the expense of the company with a larger overlap to avoid having this issue happen again. We went to install the new glass on Monday February 10th 2014. A few weeks went by and [member name removed] had again contacted me saying the shower door was leaking. I explained to him that I was baffled by this as we install hundreds of these door and we do not have issues with them leaking. He then proceeded to explain to me that it was only a couple of drops however it should be completely water proof and no water should get outside the shower. I explained how the company paid the new glass and that we do not run into this issue with customers about these showers. He explained he has another brand shower enclosure that does not do this. My question is that is the other shower the exact same type and size shower and does [member name removed] use a hand held wand in that shower? We are arriving at this solution that [member name removed] is getting water out through the overlap while using the hand held wand and that this is the reason for the leak. The resolution for this issue is to stop using the hand held wand or point it at a safe direction that water will not go through the overlap void I also suggested that we could get a seal to cover that void however I explained to him what it looked like and I also said that he would probably not like the appearance or the sound it made every time the door was opened. Every type of sliding shower enclosure I carry and offer has a void between the glass panels in order to bypass each other. This is typical of this type of enclosure. I am sorry that [member name removed] is not happy with his purchase that his wife made and I feel that we have tried to resolve this issue for the [member name removed] family. [member name removed] has asked in his request to Angie’s List that a new door be purchased and installed using a Kohler Product. We do not carry Kohler nor do we install that brand. The shower door we provided is exactly what was discussed from day one. [member name removed] also claimed he did not know the manufacturers name of the enclosure either however it is clearly stated on the brochure that I left and also on the receipt (That is included with the paperwork.) Thank you for hearing our side of this situation.
