 + 1 moreBoth Joe and Janice were very kind and professional. They responded quickly to the call for an estimate, and came out to give it in a timely manner. They were very polite and efficient during their visit. The estimate came quickly, and they were patient as my husband and I decided what to do. When we decided to go with them, again they were prompt in scheduling us. They came as scheduled, did their work, and were done quickly! They followed up with a call to discuss details of the job, and make sure we were pleased--which of course, we were!
Description of Work: We had water damage to the ceiling in our previously remodeled basement. Joe came in and took down the existing portion (which was done by the homeowner before us, and not very well!). He replaced it with drywall, then painted. He also matched the exisiting wall paint on the side will and touched up places that were damaged prior! He even went out of his way to touch up the outside molding around our basement door--it looks so beautiful, I wish he'd done the basement originally!

 + 3 moreMy old deck was rotting and the roof was barely hanging on. I initially reviewed my problem with J C partner, Janice. She setup an appointment with Joe, who came out and gave me an estimate. Joe and crew arrived promptly on the scheduled date. They tore down the old deck and roof, and replaced it with a pre-treated floor and rail system that is completely maintenance free. It rained in the afternoon, so work had to be halted. On leaving, Joe noticed that my downspout was not working properly. When he and his crew returned to complete the deck, he ascertained that the elbow was put on backwards the last time I had the gutters cleaned. This resulted in the gutter getting clogged. Joe removed the elbow, cleaned out the clog, and reinstalled the elbow - all at no extra charge. He and his crew were very professional. I liked that they worked quickly, and considering they lost a half day due to rain, my new deck was completed in no time. I also asked Joe to repair a cavity in the cement block on the side of my garage. The hole was repaired for a small additional charge. All of the debris from their work was cleaned up before they left. I am very happy with my new, maintenance-free deck. I definitely want to use J C Remodeling for any future projects. I like them because they are willing to provide a wide range of contractor services, no matter how large or small.

He made a mistake on the estimate and did not include painting the wood in the basements- about half a days work for a team of 3, but he still did the work for the quoted price, started on time and finished on time, made no mess and left everything clean. Required 50% payment up front, but was well worth it.
Description of Work: Scrapped basement walls and replasted, sealed and painted. Painted wood. Repaired waterdamaged and painted ceiling, painted stair risers and trim, bedroom wall. Intstalled kitchen back splash (we provided material), matched and replaced a brocken bathroom tile.

 + 10 moreJoe, partner Janice, foreman Lou, Javier, and Joey were great. Very professional, and friendly. Everyone arrived on time and went right to work. The crew functioned as a team and worked well together. Joe gave me detailed explanations of the work in progress, explaining what had to be done and why. Janice was excellent, providing specs and helping in the selection of the new items I wanted. When I couldn't find tile that I liked at stores I regularly frequent, she pointed me to several different tile stores, where I found the most beautiful tile. Overall, my experience with JC Remodeling was very pleasant. They are skilled professionals, courteous, and clean. Every day they would clean and vacuum from the front door, up the stairs, and down the hall to the bathroom. This is positively the best experience I've ever had with a contractor. I now have the most beautiful bathroom east of the Mississippi! I look forward to using their services again in the near future.
Description of Work: I had a complete bathroom remodel. At the start of the job JC removed the bath door, and hung a plastic curtain over the doorway to cut down on dust. They removed everything: old vanity and sink, tub, window, radiator. JC tore down the walls and ceiling back to the studs. Put in Insulation and new waterproof drywall. They removed tile from floor and walls, and replaced the plumbing for the tub. I have only one bathroom, so each morning over the 2 weeks, JC removed my old toilet at the start of their workday, then put it back before they left for the day. This was a BIG convenience to me. They also removed, cleaned and re-installed old medicine cabinets that I chose to keep. They took out the light fixture over the medicine cabinet, removed 2 old radiators, and replaced them with a smaller, cute, modern, radiator (at no charge). They also removed a pair of cabinets that had been built in over the tub/shower up to the ceiling. These cabinets were too high up to be of any use. JC took them out and rebuilt the ceiling they were attached to. They also removed the old window, and installed a new one. JC installed a new subfloor, repaired/replaced the ceiling where needed. They put down new tile on the floor, grouted and sealed it. They put in a tiled wainscot. The tiling job is just too beautiful for words. JC installed a new vanity and sink, which required them to move the drain for the sink. Before moving the drain Joe explained why it had to be moved, and suggested I could save money by selecting another type of vanity. I didn't want to change it, so he went ahead and moved the drain. It works perfectly. They installed a new sink and faucet, new bathtub and drain, spigot, shower arm and shower head, tub surround, and put grab bars on the tub surround and connecting wall. The ceiling and walls above the wainscot were primed and painted. New towel rack, toilet paper holder, soap, and toothbrush holders were installed. My old medicine cabinets were put back in place, and a new lighting fixture was installed over the larger medicine cabinet. JC installed a new electrical outlet (I never had one in the bathroom before). They also installed a new ceiling light fixture, and repainted my existing linen cabinet. While I had JC there, I asked them to check my wooden garage door, which I couldn't open anymore. Joe checked and found it had been painted shut. He just popped it open with a crow bar. I had him install a new gasket at bottom of door, and add molding around the sides which helps to weatherize it. JC also repaired and painted a section of stair wall that had a long crack in it. Finally, they installed my new toilet, I was not happy with the toilet seat supplied by the manufacturer, so I ordered a new seat, which just came in this week after the job was complete. Joe's coming over to installed it.

Janice, in the office, promptly sent written estimates via email. The crew came early each morning to accommodate my work schedule. They did a great job, were professional and cleaned up after themselves. When a different company came later to install a radiant barrier, their installers said that the insulation job was well-done. Nice to hear that from another company! To top everything off, my car got a flat tire one morning and Joe and his crew member changed my tire without me asking for help. Now that is true service!

They were extremely knowledgeable and offered many good ideas and solutions The email communications that followed to firm up the cost, selection of material and date the jobs were to be done were prompt and professional. All work was completed within a week without a hitch. I am very pleased with the outcome. No one would ever know that I had holes in my ceilings, and the curtain rods were lowered to a perfect height. The lighting in my kitchen is now wonderful and the fixture (which he helped me to pick out) is right on the mark. I really love the tiling job - it's beautiful and gives the kitchen a high-end look. The pantry door that didn't match anything in the kitchen now looks great. In addition, I am so grateful that he was able to remove the hardware, fix the gutter down spout and spigot which he did free of charge.
Description of Work: Lowered 8 foot curtain rod and repaired and painted areas effected by this job. Repaired and painted damaged areas of ceilings in two rooms matching the color of the rest of the ceilings so that the entire ceilings did not have to be repainted. Installed new lighting in kitchen, painted kitchen pantry door and installed tile back splash above entire length of kitchen and area above and around stove. The price included all supplies and material and removal of 8 foot curtain hardware from my home, cleaned the down spout of gutter and fixed a leak on my garden hose spigot

 + -1 moreWe had 3 crumbling steps outside that was becoming dangerous to come into the house and now it looks wonderful. (we don't have to leap over them anymore). They were replaced with granite and it improved the curb appeal. The stainless steel range hood was replaced over the stove and it certainly improved the look of the kitchen! The workers were very professional and did a great job cleaning up. Joe was very meticulous in matching up the paint around the range hood, even going to the store for the exact paint match! Joe also helped to fix the front storm door what was constantly banging(free of charge of course). We would definately use this company again in the future for our other projects.
Description of Work: The 3 front steps outside were crumbling and were replaced with granite. also, a stainless steel range hood was replaced above our stove.

 + -1 moreHe spent almost 2 hours with me and that too in the midst of a funeral. They took the time out after going through a death in their family. They called me back after the funeral and I have never had anybody do that for me. Not too many people are like that. They have not done anything really for me, just gave me a quote. It's a husband and wife team. They are really nice people. The quote and everything is really thorough. He took me through things that I would not have even really thought about. His wife did back up calls to me. I have not got back to them, but they are really nice people, nice to work with. They haven't done any work for me so I don't know what that's like, but initial contact with them was really good. They gave me 2 quotes as one is to do with glass wall cabinets and one is plain wall cabinets. The differential in the price had to do with the plain cabinets or the glass front cabinets. They were really thorough. They had a statement of work which was just really broken down and little notes of things we talked about in terms of process. It included them coming back to inspect the wall even before they did anything at all. It was little things like that, that other people don't do. They were really thorough like that and just broke up everything. He took the time and measured everything which the other gentleman didn't and that was a big difference. I think it's to do with the size of the company. One was a large company. The other guy thought it was a much larger kitchen. My kitchen is not even 10X10. It's like 6X12 a real narrow gallery kitchen. It doesn't need a lot. I think he thought it was a lot bigger and I am not sure from my perspective whether it was worth him doing it in terms of making money. This particular gentleman did other kitchens, I'm sure he did. He was very aware of the construction of the house, the time period and what was done in terms of the braces and joints and those kinds of things. He explained all of that to me. A lot of people don't take the time to do that. I was really pleased with this gentleman. It was a week after I called them that they came, and then again they were going through funeral stuff with me and they carried it out with out any problem. They were right on time, in fact a bit early. When he called and set up the exact time he was maybe about 45 minutes early. I think his professionalism was really great. I am a teacher and it was really a learning experience for me. I thought it was really good. I am going to call them back and talk about the quotes.

The estimate was exactly what we were looking for, which was significantly lower than every other estimate we had received. In addition they were willing to come out the next day to perform the service. They arrived and performed wonderfully - installing and capping 14 windows in less than a day (which was faster than the initial estimate provided). The windows look wonderful inside and out. We definitely did not want the original contractor and other estimates were outrageous, ranging from $350-$1000. Our neighbor suggested Angie's list, so this was our first experience. Our experience was wonderful. We received a comprehensive contract that addressed all of our questions and requests. They arrived on-time and laid down protective drop cloths immediately. We discussed the project details again and he asked if we had any questions or concerns; it was very genuine and reassuring. They involved us with the job from beginning to end. After the job, they inspected the cabinets with us and we were 100% satisfied. They paid attention to details that our previous contractor hadn't. Overall the men were personable, professional, and most importantly their workmanship was superb! * I'll put up some pictures after I clean the rest of my kitchen :)

 + 5 moreOn the day they started the job, it had snowed quite a bit overnight and there was a nasty layer of ice under the snow. They arrived promptly at 7:30 as promised and took great care not to track snow, ice and salt throughout the house. They brought along floor coverings to insure this, putting them down each day that they had to carry tools and drywall through the house. They cleaned up (sweeping, vacuuming, etc) every afternoon right before they left for the day. They also took care of getting the required permits from my township and I didn't have to remind or ask them for it. When starting the dry wall, they put up plastic sheeting over the doorways to keep the dust from spreading throughout the house. The entire job took about a week (during which we had at least two snowstorms) and they were there everyday, starting work by 7AM. To keep the job on schedule, they worked on a Saturday after making sure it wouldn't conflict with my plans. They checked with me at the beginning and end of each work day to see if I had any concerns or questions and they informed me of their progress and any problems they ran into during the course of the day. They gave me suggestions for my lighting options and I ended up getting pot lights installed which I had not considered initially. They did a final walk through of the kitchen with me a day or two after the job was completed to see if everything was done to my liking and if there were any outstanding issues. I am very, very pleased with the workmanship and my newly renovated kitchen! Thank you all!

 + 8 moreFor years we talked about finishing our unfinished basement so that we could have a workout room, storage area, closets, and a room for guests and kids to watch TV and play games. As autumn approached we brought in several contractors recommended by friends and two we found on Angie's List. We found JC Remodeling on Angie's List. They stood out because they were responsive from the beginning and really worked hard to understand our needs. Joe and Janice arrived on-time to our first appointment and we had a great discussion about what we were looking for, what they could provide, and what the timing would be for completion should we choose them for the work. They took photos of the basement and made measurements so they could prepare an estimate. Once we were comfortable with the proposal and the estimate, they provided us with a line by line contract of the work they promised to do, the exact materials (carpet, paint, lighting) we agreed upon, and an estimate of the final cost and completion date. Joe and his crew arrived on-time every day throughout the project. Joe was in contact with me daily to make sure I was happy with how things were going. He would give me a tour of the basement and go over every detail of what they were doing, areas he thought we could make improvements or minor changes to the original plan, etc. Janice would communicate frequently by email to keep me up to date and to make sure they were meeting my expectations. The crew worked efficiently and always cleaned up before leaving for the day. They worked hard to minimize dust and noise in our main living area and even switched around some scheduled work to be sure the heavy rains we were getting didn't cause the new carpet to get wet or muddy. Even with these accommodations they finished the project ahead of schedule. The completed work is simply beautiful. The basement was completed well ahead of schedule and on budget. Joe and Janice were a pleasure to work with and I would pick them again for future remodeling work.
Description of Work: This job was a complete finishing of our basement which previously was unfinished concrete floor and cinder block walls. They handled moving water and sewer pipes as necessary, roughed out new walls and made two new rooms, a storage closet and a utility closet, installed recessed lighting and new electrical outlets, installed cable and Ethernet access for the TV, installed drywall and baseboards, thoroughly insulated the exterior walls and plugged any cold air leaking from outside, installed sound proofing board in the ceiling and then finished the ceiling with drywall. They installed heating ducts and a return that connected with our existing furnace. They finished the job with a fantastic paint job of the new walls, ceiling and baseboards and installed padding and carpeting on the floor.

 + 5 moreI called for an estimate which was provided (free) by Joe & Janice Cheeseman within a few days of my call. The work was then scheduled for one day the following week. On that day Joe showed up (on time) with two of his workers. After making sure they were off to a good start, he left them to complete the job. It took several hours but they were finished by mid-afternoon. While they worked they were respectful of my privacy and minimized most of the excess noise. Afterwards, they removed all trash and did a thorough cleanup.
Description of Work: The drop ceiling in my living room had collapsed and needed replacing. JC put up a new drop ceiling with new grid and larger tiles. They also replaced a ceiling fan in the same room with a new light fixture. All the work was done in one day to accommodate my schedule.

Joe's wife Janice was also helpful with showing the tiles and helping me select colors. JC Remodeling is a very professional company that I would recommend to anyone. Great work. Competitive prices. Totally reliable.
Description of Work: Joe replaced joists and repaired an incorrectly installed door. The door had allowed water in which collected under the floor causing the floor to sag and the wood damage. He replaced the damaged wood, the door frame and put supports in the sub flooring. The door was adjusted and properly secured. The floor is now perfect as is the door. Joe also installed ceramic tile in my kitchen. It is beautiful, perfect and easy to care for.

 + 2 moreI really like working with Joe, Janice and the crew. Everything was done to very high quality and everyone I talked with was friendly and professional. Joe and Janice came to my house (on time!) and assessed three jobs I was thinking about. After talking me through how each project would go, in terms of timing, steps, etc, they departed and promised to send written estimates for each job within a few days (which they did). I elected to go with the front door project first. After ordering and receiving the door, Joe and the crew worked for two days to remove the old door frame, install the new door, install the storm door, paint the interior and exterior where needed and install the temporary shield for the new window (the window had to be custom made, and the size couldn't be finalized until all the framing work was done). Joe then returned once the window was completed, installed it, and finalized all of the odds-and-ends. I have been so impressed with them, that I have asked them to provide estimates for a number of other projects that I need to get done. What I like about them: - They know what they're doing. This is an experienced team, and it was obvious that they spend the time to figure out the best way to finish the project - not the cheapest or fastest way. - They're attentive. I can leave a voicemail or email Janice and usually have an answer to my question within an hour. They never forgot about me or neglected to get back to me because something more pressing or lucrative came up - They're professional. They show up on time (or early), do the work, clean up thoroughly and get on with their day. - They're nice. It makes a difference. Minor caveat: - Their estimates are fair for the high quality work that they do - but they probably won't be the least expensive estimate available. However, I think the extra cost was worth it.
Description of Work: Work done to a Center City brick row house, circa 1850: removed old and rotting front door, transom window (above the door), and associated interior and exterior woodwork. Reframed door to be stable and secure and replaced interior woodwork. Installed new door, new storm door, new custom transom window and a new custom stained glass window.

They worked on schedule everyday and maybe some weekends to make sure they where done before my scheduled move in date. If they came across an issue, I was immediately contacted with the problem and possible solutions. The paint colors I selected were beautiful and my home restored even better than what I remembered!! I also have to say that their estimate was exactly what they charged me. So thank you JC Remodeling for being prompt, courteous, and professional while working to restore my home.
Description of Work: My home was a rental property for several years. I decided to move back into my home. And you can image the amount of demand left in my home. I went on Angie's List website and found JC Remodeling. I called the number the same day and set up an estimate the next day. Because the home was unoccupied during the winter, our water pipes burst dropping my ceiling into the living room. Also the bathroom tub water was leaking into the dining room. When I looked at the bathroom a second time, I decided it was time to remodel the bathroom. I also had them redo my bedroom closet and paint my entire home.

 + 3 moreThis is a great company. I found it on Angie's List. I emailed what I wanted done to my kitchen and got an email back within 15 minutes. I responded and had an appointment for an estimate to be done two days later at 4pm. At exactly that time, Joe knocked on the door. He spent time looking at the kitchen and listening to my concerns. He photographed the room and promised an estimate by week's end. Two days later, I had the estimate. I emailed back and an appointment was set for the work to be done two weeks hence. On the date promised, at 8a.m., the doorbell rang and the work began. Within 3 days, the kitchen was, as promised, complete. It looks beautiful. It is a flawless job. When the job was finished the place was immaculate. Every day I look at the kitchen and I am just so delighted with the way it looks. I am so thankful that Angie's List found such a wonderful, professional company for my job. I would hire Joe again in a minute and will. Soon. I would recommend this company to anyone!!!!
Description of Work: My kitchen ceiling tiles were removed. There was paneling on three of my kitchen walls that was also removed. After removal, the ceiling and walls were drywalled, primed and painted. I absolutely love the way it looks. It is perfect and an unbelievable improvement in my home.

 + 1 moreThe company owner came out to look at the work needed and to give me an estimate, as well as ideas for the job. I had 5 estimates total for both repair and replacement work. I selected this company because he did not suggest the most expensive route of replacement, he suggested repair. He also gave ideas for repair where the frame was unstable that no one else had thought of. One scheduled he arrived promptly, and completed the job in 2 days as was also what he estimated. He also contacted me afterward to make sure I had no questions. He was friendly and professional, and I would contact him in the future for ANY home repair.
Description of Work: My basement drop ceiling was not totally installed properly, and many tiles were falling down, as well as the frame. He repaired and replaced broken parts of the framing, as well as replaced those which had come down. He secured and realigned parts of the frame installed improperly. He replaced small tile cutouts with wood, and painted it to perfectly match the wall paint. Lastly there was a shelf at the bottom of the step for some unknown reason that was always being knocked down-he painted and repositioned and secured that as well.

 + 5 moreI found J C. Remodeling on Craig's List, and e-mailed them to inquire if they would be interested in our job. Janice responded immediately, and they came out the next day to look at the job, talk to us, and take measurements. The estimates for the work were provided to us in a couple of days. Joe and Janice are both extremely detail-oriented so we knew that when the job was finished, it would be done right! We were not disappointed. The doors were painted and hung; they look beautiful! And the counter ... it seemed to us that it would be a real challenge to add an extension to our existing countertop, but they did an absolutely beautiful job! It couldn't be more perfect! They are very respectful of the customer's time and schedule and arrived promptly. If there was even a few minutes' delay, they would call. We never for a moment thought that they forgot about us, or had more important things to do. The focus was on our job, our project. They were always professional and respectful, and Joe always explained everything and took the time to answer our questions. We would hire this company again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: We requested two "projects". The first was to hang two French doors. The second was to install additional counter space in our kitchen over top of our washer and dryer.

 + -1 moreI can't say anything bad about them and I can say only good stuff about them. J C Remodeling is a friendly company and they were very efficient. They were here on time as well. They worked quickly and got the work done on time. They also did little extra things which we didn't think about. The owner is the one who came out and he brought 2 painters along with him. He stayed for a few hours on the first day and was here for most of the time on the second day. I would highly recommend them and we are also going to use their services for other jobs too. It's like an old fashioned company. They believe in customer service and they also provide it. I intend to hire them in the future too. They are general contractors and provide handyman service too. I am going to have them come out to do some electrical work for me.
Description of Work: We used the services of J C Remodeling to have 4 ceilings painted on last Wednesday and Thursday.

 + 13 moreI needed windows installed in my whole house, but was nervous about getting ripped off or having shabby work. I called J C Remodeling, whom I found in the Yellow book under windows. I talked with Joe Cheeseman the owner. I had some concerns about my carpentry issues on the inside of the windows. Joe had informed me that JC Remodeling is a general contracting company. He came out with sample windows and gave me an estimate to install 19 windows with capping. He knew a great deal about the windows and the job I needed done. I asked for a few references which checked out well. Joe told me he is on Angies List. I told him I was a member but that I didn?t notice JC Remodeling there. He told me to check under handymen. I found JC Remodeling in handymen with good reviews. I decided to hire JC for the job. A two man crew showed up on time, polite and professional. All the windows were removed and the new vinyl windows were installed in 2 days. The old windows along with all debris were hauled away. Everything was clean, on time and at the exact price of the estimate.. The windows work and look great. I am extremely happy with the job and intend to use JC Remodeling on my future projects. Thanks for a job well done.
Description of Work: Measure, order, remove 19 existing windows, install 19 new vinyl windows with capping, replace some or the interior window trim and caulk. There was some Drywall/Plaster work. Trim/Molding repairn that. JC had included in the est cost.
