I highly recommended not using Aquarius Pool & Patio for pool installation or repair! I would like to say that Aquarius is a very unprofessional company that I would not recommend to anyone for the installation or maintenance of their pool. My wife and I went shopping for an above ground pool late Fall 2012 and placed a deposit late 2012 so we would be one of the first to have our pool installed in spring 2013. Aquarius called and said they would be dropping off heavy equipment so they could start installation on Friday May 14th. Pam Keefer(Vice President of the company) told us that the pool would be installed in one business day, two at the max when we signed the original contract, and this was important to us because my wife has an at home massage business and running of heavy equipment outside the house is not relaxing for her clients. Aquarius never showed up until late Friday afternoon and never called to let us known they were behind schedule and my wife rescheduled all her clients to other days. It took Aquarius 8 days from ground breaking to turning on the pump running, so needless to say my wife and I were frustrated. I called Aquarius around day 4 or 5 to inquire on what was going on but got the answering machine. After not hearing back from then I called again and Gene (the owner) answer and I ask why he did not return my call stated he doesn?t call the customer back. He said they will call again if it is that important. This created even more tension. While in the store, Gene also called my wife and I a liar that the pool skimmer was not leaking and making the statement that he sent a guy out to the house for nothing. The only problem was there was a leak and pictures were sent to Aquarius to prove it and his technical still had work to do on the pool. After canceling payment to withhold payment and sending pictures of the leak and all the other issues, Gene finally sent a technician out to change the entire skimmer and to fix everything on the punchlist. I invested almost as much time trying to get Aquarius to actually do what they would contracted to do, than to buy the kit and invite friends and family to install it ourselves

In September of 2010, we contracted with Aquarius to install a new pool liner on a promised date of the second week of May 2011. After repeated calls, peppered with lies on their part, our liner was finally installed in the third week of June. The delay was not due to the weather, but because they couldn’t seem to get the measurements right. (In April when we wanted to change the pattern, Gene Shurer the store owner, told us it was already in the store, hmmm.) Red flags we ignored because it was easier to use the same company that we always have. A mistake we will not make in the future and hope to save you from. And if you ask around, you will find that our story is not unique. Soon after installation, Steve dove to the deep end to sweep some debris into the bottom drain where he found five stones under the liner. We immediately informed Gene at Aquarius Pools and he insisted that it was not a problem. They never came out to look at the liner. As a pool owner, you know that a stone on top of your liner is a problem, a stone under it is unacceptable. After repeated, failed attempts to get them to fix our liner to the reasonable state one would expect - without stones - we refused to pay the balance of our bill until we were assured in writing that our pool liner would be replaced when the stones caused leaks. They sent us an unsigned, undated letter on a plain piece of paper (no store letterhead), this letter would never have been admissible in court. A fact that a business man of more than 40 years would know. An honorable attempt to make things right? Don’t think so. After continued conversations, with Gene still insisting that the stones were not a problem, he sent us a letter stating that they would repair (not replace) the liner and that they would require verification from the pool manufacturer that the stones caused the hole. At this point we thought it prudent to map out the placement of the stones under our liner. Imagine our shock when we found 20 stones. Now what? Aquarius is still saying it isn’t a problem and won’t become one; they have not even come out to inspect our pool to see what we are talking about. So, to end this fiasco we decide that we will pay them for the liner and not for the very unacceptable, poor workmanship. We send them a check indicating that this is payment in full and our relationship is hereby severed. Gene decided to sue us in small claims court instead of making the situation right. The conversations and letters were civil, there was no yelling, no scenes in the store, no irrational demands, and this is his choice?? Hmmmm. The judge decided for Aquarius Pools but gave us $800 off the balance. (See any contradiction there) After the court’s decision, Linda went in to talk to the judge to see why he made the decision that he did. The judge stated that we had convinced him in the first ten minutes that Aquarius had breached the contract. But, that we had failed to show the amount of damages. We had an estimate that he had allowed into evidence for repair costs of $2450. (see anything fishy yet? I will have to let you draw your own conclusions here.) So what are we left with? A pool liner with 20 stones under it, a nearly full price bill (almost $5000), anger, and severe disappointment in the courts and mostly disgust in Aquarius Pools complete disregard for its customers. This is not a perfect world, things happen, we know this, but when it is in your control to fix it, a respectable, responsible person would/should do so. Mr. Gene Schurer is not one of these people. He has no regard for his long-time customers or even his own business’ reputation. We hope that you will not reward this behavior with your business. Please join us in boycotting his business. Please pass this letter on to any of your pool owning friends.
