Response from Anderson Chimneys Fireplaces Masonry
I was contacted by (removed member name) interior decorator over two years ago to come and look at some fireplaces at the (removed member name) home. I first visited with the Interior decorator , then with the decorator and the (removed member name) for over and hour both times for free!!!! I gave the (removed member name) a quote to repair their fireplace so it could be converted to wood burning. For Free!!!, The After about one month (removed member name) decide that they did not want to go through the costly process of have the fireplace converted into wood burning. I then at (removed member name) request went back to his home FOR FREE and spent another hour or better going over his options for gas loos.We scheduled a time for Anderson Chimney to come back to his home to do some demo of his firebox to see what would be required to run gas lines to his firebox. Which we did for FREE!!! After that was completed (removed member name) was not in touch with me for over three months. When he finally got back into touch with me we made arrangments so come back over to his place to look online together at some vent free gas options, which I did for FREE! I showed (removed member name) some Victorian inserts which he seemed to like. I sold (removed member name) one of these Victorian inserts that I had at my cost to try and help him get his process completed. I had the unit dropped off at his home for FREE. I then did not here from (removed member name) for over three months again. When I finally heard back from (removed member name) he requested that I comeback to his house to discuss this process again. Which I did for Free. We finally decided on a install date. (removed member name) contacted me the day of the install date and informed that he wanted to wait because he was not sure if he wanted to install the unit he bought from me in his place. He thought they may want to go into another direction. Well to be honest at that point I was completely over the I tire process!! I sent (removed member name) a email requesting a payment of $203.25 which was the fee I get to do a fireplace cleaning. To be honest I feel that I shorted myself drastically. I was over (removed member name) home at least seven times. It cost me more in gas and employee wages to do the inspection of the fireplaces, the light demo to the firebox, the delivery of the Victorian unit to his house, as well as the countless hours of research for his job. I was happy just to get some form of payment from him at that point! I have not responded to (removed member name) emails because I don't wish to do any work for him. I can not afford to keep running over there for free. He seems to be a nice guy,but he is often gone out of the country for months at a time, and he seems to want people to jump at his beckoning call when he returns. I can not do that!!! I wish him luck in getting his process completed! Here are a few mails which I have attached so you guys can see for yourself. This first email is from the decorator 8-11-2011 Hi Ron, (removed member name), whom you and I met with last spring, is trying to get in touch with you to discuss the work. I think he is ready to proceed now, but not certain since we are not handling it. He has chosen to handle it directly. You might want to give him a call. I don't have a number for him, but you may have it since he likely left it for you. His email is fei Hope all is going well with you and the business. I learned a great deal about fireplaces from you! Thanks, Judith Gelatt Here is a email regarding the unit I sold to him at my cost. 6-04-2012 (removed member name), If I just had to install the gas line and the unit the cost would be $650.00, If you want me to demo the tile on the fireplace face ad the hearth it will be and additional 250.00 for demo and debris removal. If you want me to pour a base for you inner and outer hearth that cost for that will be $650.00. Getting this unit for $1,500.00 with the burner and remote is a steal. If you don't buy it I am going to and either sell it for 3000.00 or keep it for myself. Here is an email from 2-12-2013 Hi Ron. (removed member name) is back from China and we have regrouped on the living room fireplace. Here is the decision: We will go with an open fireplace with a new ventless log unit. The photo embedded in this email is the look we would like to achieve. We would prefer brick or tile to line the inside of the fireplaces but it may be cost prohibitive. Can you let us know the cost? If we can do it, we will. If it is too much, we will go with the black fleur de lis panels that are in the fireplace now. I think we are ready to move ahead. When can you get started? Thanks. Maura The last two emails that I will share are from 2013. The first is from (removed member name) to me and the second is my response! Just pick at time and I will coordinate with Dan to get the work done, even if my house is a wreck for a month. (removed member name) Hello (removed member name), Look????? I must admit (removed member name) that I an a little Taken back from your tune!!! Particularly when it is I who Has been to your home four different times Which has cost me money, and there was no cost to you! Also when I sold you the fireplace at my cost. Which I could have made at least 1500.00 on if I had not done that! I also had it delivered to you at no cost to you, which I payed for it to be delivered to you. Also (removed member name) it is your schedule that has posed the greatest challenge due to the fact that you are not in Pittsburgh for many months at a time. (removed member name) I am busy as well I can not just drop what is on my existing schedule to add you in just because you are finally ready to move forward! Lastly you have changed your mind numerous times about which direct you even want to go in which has further complicated the process! At this point I have to admit L(removed member name) I think it may be best if you contacted another chimney contractor who maybe able to a commentate your schedule and needs better. Most respectfully, Ron Anderson Anderson Chimney This was is reply!!! Hi Ron, I just heard this morning from Dan who now would like to book for late February and early March to work on the fireplace mantle and surround. So my goal would be to get the install done in the next 6 or 7 weeks. He would like to meet with you before the install to coordinate. Just for clarification, I wanted to make sure that you knew that my frustration wasn't with you, it was with how long it took me to find someone to do the finish work after the fireplace install. When the guy you recommended never answered my calls for called back when I left messages, I went through multiple people looking for recommendations. The people I contacted didn't respond, were busy, didn't do that kind of work, whatever. It has taken me a long time, but I didn't see that as your fault. Anyway, if you now don't want the project, that would be a real shame from my point of view since I would love to have you work on the place. But, if you don't want to, do you have a recommendation for someone? Thanks, (removed member name) Decide for yourself!!!
