From start to finish, we had an excellent experience with Ron Anderson at Anderson Chimney. He returned my phone call on the same day and was able to give us an estimate within a few days. Our schedules are tight, but he was flexible with us. Mr. Anderson emailed us a bid on the same day that he came out to look at our property. We signed the contracts on a Wednesday and they started work that following Monday. Mr. Anderson estimated 3 days, he had it done in 2. Everything looks great. Mr. Anderson and his crew did everything as stated, and left the place as clean as it was before they came. We were also very appreciative that Mr. Anderson went the extra step. We had him also quote us on fixing the interior brick on 4 chimneys, but decided not to have that done. Mr. Anderson showed my husband how to fix this himself by painting a sealant on the bricks. We even purchased the sealant through Mr. Anderson. Anderson Chimney was professional, nice, and helpful.
Description of Work: My husband and I had Anderson Chimney tear down a chimney for a living room fireplace. They removed over 100 bricks from the roof chimney. They also capped an additional 3 chimney flues. Anderson Chimney also repaired a basement and exterior wall foundation. They removed all the loose mortar and paint and then fixed the erosion on the walls.

Mr. Anderson responded to our call, came out the same day, and gave us some idea about what was needed. We had an estimate within a week, and the job was scheduled and completed within 2 weeks. He was personable and professional, showed up on time, did a great job, and cleaned up the work area afterwards. His was not the cheapest estimate, but we chose his company because he instilled confidence with his professionalism.
Description of Work: Our chimney was falling apart and causing water to leak into the attic bedroom. Mortar was ground out, chimney was re-pointed, straightened and capped with a stone cap.
In performing a living room remodel in my home that involved removing some plaster I accidentally discovered an area that was water damaged. Before patching over the area I decided to consult a mason as the area was over my chimney to see what issue past or present caused the damage. We called several masons rated well on Angie's List and Anderson got back to us promptly. I was away for work so my wife dealt with the two gentlemen that arrived and said they were extremely professional and very knowledgeable. To top it off, they discovered a problem with a gutter that was causing excessive water to leach into the brick at the area of the leak. They recommended a fix free of charge that we performed in about 10 minutes and they even gave us a piece of flashing to make the fix. We've not had any more problems to date, and Anderson refused payment even after my wife insisted. Incredible service and they came a long way from their base to our home. Anderson also looked at our non-working fireplace and informed us it can be restored to working order. We will certainly be calling them when the time comes to do that fix. A general contractor we had look at it once before insisted the fireplace could not be repaired. That was very disappointing at the time because we were excited to purchase a home with a fireplace. Looks like we'll still get to enjoy the fireplace!
Description of Work: Had interior water damage around chimney area investigated.

We called for an estimate to fix a built- in gas fireplace. Ron, the owner, promptly returned our call and asked information about the problem. Then he gave us suggestions to try to fix the fireplace on our own. He offered to stop by if it didn't work. His suggestions worked!!!! Our fireplace is functional again - no cost was involved.

Ron and his crew are great. My estimate from them was far less then all others (one fourth of one estimate, people are charging $9k for one chimney). Finished the job fast, but with quality. A lot of so called masons in this town repoint with the care of a 5 year old, and you'll get square jobs, but with mortar smeared everywhere, slapped on like cake frosting. Ron and his crew know how to etch the brick and how to lay it down. It looks great, real craftsmanship. Took a big job and made it reasonable. Plus, he's from the East End, knows it, and cares about it. Definitely recommend.

We are extremely pleased with the end result and without hesitation would call and also recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: We are very pleased with the service and our end product, a ventless fireplace stove insert into our living room fireplace. Mr. Anderson came to our home twice to thoroughly explain what options we had. We looked at pictures on his iPad and computer to view our choices. He thoroughly explained the process of installation and immediately sent us a contract with prices via e-mail. Within a month we had the ventless fireplace installed , as promised. Mr. Anderson was able to work around our schedule. During installation, pads were placed on our floors and clean up was very thorough. He was very professional and we were very impressed with the service and fireplace.

Ron has been prompt, professional and courteous from the time he gave an initial estimate and throughout the entire job. We have an old house with a fireplace that wasn't up to code. Ron came and gave us an estimate promptly. We had LOTS of questions and Ron patiently answered all of them. As the job progressed, Ron continued to answer all of our questions. He also let us know when/if there were any detours or changes as the work progressed. Before beginning work, Ron set up a "tent" around the fireplace in order to minimize dust and soot. At the end of the job he cleaned up well. He worked with us to determine the best plan of action for the work involved. Ron went the "extra mile" to do the job in a quality manner.

The service he performed went very well.
Description of Work: Ron identified my water problem as coming from a chimney that had been blocked by bricks from a fallen divider. He removed the bricks and reestablished the open access for heat and moisture to escape from the chimney, rather than go through the chimney bricks and work its way into the walls of the house.
It went better and quicker than I expected. In total it took 3 days.
Description of Work: My Chimneys were in very poor shape. I called Ron on a Monday and he was out Tuesday to look at what work needed to be done. I was impressed that he took digital pictures of what the chimneys looked like and what exactly needed to be done. I showed him where some water had gotten into the house from the snow storm of Feb 2010 and where the heavy rains this spring had come in. He explained in detail what the problem was and let me know there was a solution. He emailed me an estimate on Wednesday and after having others come out who did not even go onto the roof, I accepted his bid. He started work on Monday and explained every step of the way what was happening and what needed to be repaired. He is very knowledgable in what he does, very personable to deal with and a joy to work with. His men were also equally personable. I may have him do other work futher down the road.

They were excellent. Rob was the gentleman that came and he was wonderful. The price was very moderate. He was very good and very thorough. He told us everything was safe. He was open and honest.
Description of Work: We used Anderson Chimneys Fireplaces Masonry to come in and check our two gas fireplaces to make sure they were working because we bought an older home.
Ron and his crew did a great job, and had everything done right away. He was working right before and after Thanksgiving, that is the type of dedication I saw. The re-pointing looks great, and the chimney repairs make the things look brand new! He was familiar with the neighborhood and really wanted my place to look nice. They even hooked up some broken downspouts which had been disconnected, since they had their ladders up. Yeah! When you add to all of this the fact that his pricing for the chimneys came in at almost 1/3 of the cost of some other contractors, I would say, without a doubt, that you owe it to your house and checkbook to give Ron a call if you want any masonry work done. The quality of work I received from these guys is absolutely top-notch, making it the most painless contracting experience I've ever had. A+, five-stars, two thumbs up, and any other superlatives apply.

The guy who came out was very professional. He was the only person I dealt with who was willing to get up on our crazy roof. He was unbelievable. He even talked to me about things we can do with inside with my fireplace so we don't freeze this winter. He was really great.

Ron is very good at listening to what you would like to do, telling you whether it is possible, and then describing in detail how he will go about the project. If what you want to do is not possible/up to code, he will quickly point that out and explain why, and then will normally be able to come up with a solution that meets your needs and is proper. He is also comfortable with allowing me to do certain prep parts of the job, minimizing the cost to me - as a DIY type of person, I appreciate this. All of his workers that I met were very punctual, tidy (difficult in this line of work), and professional. I can say that we enjoyed during the crazy blizzard in Feb 2010 the new Napolean stoves immensely - what a great way to add a bit of moisture back to our otherwise dried out winter air in the house. I am also feeling better about the state of my central chimney, and it really looks fantastic with the break fully ground out and repointed and the old chimney pots reinstalled. We are having Ron bid out some more work soon - another exterior chimney/masonry repair/pointing, as well as making several other fireplace functional again.
Description of Work: Ron Anderson of Anderson Chimney Restoration has now completed two large jobs at our residence of 408 S Pacific Ave. Both contracts were completed on time and at budget, and very much to our satisfaction. The first contract (January 2010) involved preparing two first floor fireboxes for ventfree cast iron stoves. The fireboxes were parged and sealed off from the old brick flue. New brass floor key valves and flexible gas lines were run from the basement up through the firebox floor to service the new stoves. The new stoves (Napolean brand) were installed with remote controls and work well. Approx cost for this contract was $4200 The second contract (July 2010) included both interior and exterior tasks. A large roof scaffold was installed to prevent breaking or disrupting the slate roof. Two second floor bedroom fireboxes were sealed from their flues and parged to minimize air draft into the living spaces. On this same central chimney, a large diameter boiler/water heater flue double-wall liner was installed from the basement up through the chimney cap, a distance of over 40 feet. The chimney mortar joints above the roof line were ground out and re-mortared to match the house’s existing red masonry mortar. Flues not in use were capped with ceramic tile allowing for a small breathable air gap. The original decorative chimney pots were pulled out of the garden, cleaned, and installed on top of the chimney capstone. Finally, the entire exterior portion was waterproofed to deter masonry and mortar degradation. Approximate cost for this contract was about $5000 On both occasions, Ron and his crew (mainly Nick and Jose) kept the dust exposure to a minimum inside the house and then did a thorough clean up at the end of every work day. This was a concern of ours because we have an infant. They were consistent with their work hours and cleaned up at the end of each day (even outside the house). They were some of the harder working contractors I have had work on this house. Ron was also very open to defining the contract and making us comfortable with his recommendations, answering any questions and concerns we had professionally. I would recommend Anderson Chimney for any of the above referenced chimney and fireplace jobs.

Ron was able to come out very quickly after our initial phone call. He was prompt, polite, respectful and professional. We liked him so well during our inital appointment, we knew we would not really consider anyone else. We knew there was a lot of work to be done and figured it would take some time to complete it all- mostly due to financial restraints. We were expecting to eventually have to pay 50% more than we did by the time it was all complete. Because of that, we were not expecting to have the whole house done at this time (not to mention the paint removed). Fortunately, the weather cooperated and Ron and his team were able to complete our entire 3 story 3,000 (interior) square foot home in just about 10 days. Ron also perservered in removing the paint from our sandstone lentils and sills which ended up being more difficult then anyone expected. I was ready to just paint them again, but Ron wouldn't have it. Ron also re-ground and re-pointed a section of the home that he "didn't like the look of". It happened to be a section one of his team members pointed and Ron refused to walk away knowing that it wasn't as good as it could possibly be. We are so thrilled with Ron and the work he did it is almost disappointing that we do not have any additonal brick work for him to do for us. We will definitely hire him and only him for any future work.
Description of Work: Ron pointed the entire exterior of our home. Additionally, he repaired and capped 2 chimneys and removed the paint from the front facade of our home.

Ron came out and gave us an excellent demonstration on the Ahrens system. He was efficient, neat, and clean throughout the project, even building a box around the fireplace prior to beginning his work to decrease the amount of dirt and debris on the rest of the room. He kept us informed regarding his progress, and completed the job in a timely manner. We used the fireplace all winter and loved it. We started having some problems with an odor coming from the fireplace when the flu is closed, but we called Ron and he advised us about getting glass doors installed, as we have an old home with a lot of draft. He offered to help us in that endeavor as well. It was a little pricey, but overall, very pleased with his work and his professionalism.

Ron was super. He was efficient, prompt and responsive. He was also very accurate in his estimates about cost and timing, as well as extremely professional and friendly. Our firebox was bricked off and plastered over. We wanted to restore the fireplace and wanted to make it as functional but we didn't know if that was economically feasible. Ron helped us to evaluate our options and he didn't recommend the most costly or labor intensive route as some contractors would. When it came time to do the work, Ron was very careful with our property and clean. We didn't need to clean up after him at all and the final product is fantastic. He paid a lot of attention to detail and we're thankful that we found him! His work with the chimney was also excellent. We'd also like to indicate that Ron's estimates were cheaper than all other contractors that we spoke to for the fireplace and the chimney. Ron is the most professional and responsive of all of the contractors that we've ever worked with.

Mr. Anderson was extremely helpful! We had been in our house for two years and had never turned on the fireplace due to having small children. He was incredibly helpful in showing me how to turn on the fireplace, where the gas line was to the fireplace, what I should do to take care of the pipe line , talked to me about my options if I wanted to get additional logs, and what kind of things to watch out for with the type of fireplace I have. He also was very nice to my 3 yr old who woke up grumpy and our new puppy. The biggest point for me is that he added me to his schedule the very next day and didn't try to sell me anything. In fact, he suggested ways that I could make do with what I had for the holidays and defer the expense to later since it wasn't critical. I will definitely recommend him to others and will be using him again after the holidays.
