We had just moved into our home that had a gas fireplace. Since we were unfamiliar with how to use and didn't even really know if it worked properly ( home inspector does not turn on) ww had John come out and inspect it for us. He spent over an hour explaining everything there was to know about the fireplace and inspected it for us. Very knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions.
Description of Work: Inspected the fireplace for any needed repairs.

and respectful in every way, even opening the door for me when I returned home from an errand with our son sleeping on my shoulder. I would recommend these guys to anyone who may need their services. I really appreciated the constant communication from Ron and after the work was done I have heard from him seeing if we are pleased with the unit they installed. Thanks guys!!
Description of Work: After having a small chimney fire and experiencing difficulty in finding a provider that would repair our chimney/ insurance covering the cost I reached out to Ron Anderson. On the first visit to our house, he looked at our existing fireplace/ chimney and thoroughly reviewed all of our options, if I recall correctly, there were three in total ranging in price. From the beginning we felt that Ron was honest especially when giving us many options to choose what would work best for us and for the area where the work was to be done. We decided to use Anderson's to install our new Ahren's unit because of their prompt attention and honesty in assessing our situation. After this, he set a date, and remained in contact via text along the way. Ron and Moe (spelling?) arrived on the agreed upon date at the time they said. Day two and three were just as smooth in terms of timing, they were delayed one day because of traffic and another while waiting for a part in order to complete the job, neither of which were their fault, in fact, I was kept informed via text on these days as well. They were in our house doing the work for three days, while they were here, they covered all of our furniture and carpet with canvas and created a tent around the existing fireplace as they removed the existing tiles covered in soot. I have to say, the room in which they worked was kept remarkably clean considering the type or work being done. The Ahren's unit that was installed is designed to radiate heat throughout the room thanks to its design and multiple layers of insulation. In the end we were very satisfied with the work from Anderson's, they were prompt, professional

I can highly recommend Ron. He came in focused on my needs and recommended a "best bang for the buck" solution vs. "biggest buck." He wasn't the cheapest for what he proposed, but I could tell he knew the most and cared about doing things the right way. That proved to be true. He fixed up our fireplace, installed a gas line and log set, and even came back to put on our decorative doors. All high quality work. When putting on the doors, an old brick cracked, and instead of doing a 'quick workaround' he went back to his shop to get the material to do the fix the right way. I can definitely recommend Anderson Chimney.

Having just moved into my new house, I needed to have the fireplace and chimney checked. Mr. Anderson called me back quickly and arrived promptly to do the inspection. He explained to me what was wrong and offered various solutions to resolve the problem. He and his crew were professional, friendly and more than willing to answer questions. Once we decided on the solution, he quickly ordered the parts and made a date to install them as soon as they arrived. They were careful not to soil my rug and cleaned up before leaving. The price was very reasonable in relation to the extent of the job, and Mr. Anderson urged me to call with any questions or problems I might have. I would definitely recommend this company to others.

Ron and his helper did a very professional job. From the intial inspection to the final completion we were on the same page with ensuring that what was finally installed would be safe to operate. What was there when we moved in was a total wreck. Now we have a beautiful gas burning log system (vented). If we choose to in the future we could also convert to a wood buring fireplace with the system integrity that Ron installed. They encapsulated the work area in front of the fireplace from floor to ceiling trying to minimize the dust impact. They had to remove the old tiles from inside of the chimney first before installing a new metal flue pipe insert. A lot of work and debris. Minimal dust escaped considering the amount of work being performed. The firebox was brought back to its original integrity spec with all of the mortar replacement. All of the debris was hauled away. Fireplace was not only setup and working great, but Ron took the time to explain how you startup and shutdown the gas burner to my wife. Working in the oil business raised a lot of questions from me. Ron was very considerate and knowledgeable in his repsonses to those questions.
Description of Work: They relined our chimney, removed the old tiles inside the chimney, re-mortared the firebox, changed out the dampner, installed our prepurchased gas log set and kept the house as clean as possible during the entire job.

i called Ron one afternoon to have a look at the chimney in my old south side home. i was interested in putting a wood burning stove in it, but needed to be sure it was safe. Ron called me back that evening when he was setting up his schedule. we were able to set up a time in the afternoon a few days after, but he was tied up at another job. he called to explain and then came out the next morning. not a problem, as i work from home. Ron showed up and checked out my chimney. he told me it looked great and we could do whatever we wanted with it. then he took a look at my other chimney in the front room of the house. he mentioned that it might be a better fit for a stove since this is the room where our tv and couches sit. I'm cool with design input so let him check it out. glad i did because Ron noticed that the chimney flue did not go all the way up to the roof, but instead was only about a 5 foot high piece of terra cotta. this was the flue for my natural gas furnace and water heater, which were potentially venting directly into my living room. totally unsafe. i think Ron was more concerned than me and offered to fix this problem immediately. he told me that it should be lined with a stainless steel liner and it would be a pretty straight-forward fix, but that it needed done. we put a piece of cement board up in front of the chimney for the time being while i figured out what to do. ended up calling Ron the next week and asking him to come back out. he gave me a great deal on the job and came out promptly to get a check for materials and then again the next morning to do the job. he was quick and clean and the living room is now safe from carbon monoxide fumes. Ron was very professional every time i spoke with him. he knows his business and is confident in his skills. he is very honest about what is needed and what he can do and his pricing is very fair. i think my original quote from him for this job was higher, but he really felt that my home was unsafe and wanted to be sure that the problem was corrected. my plans for my other chimney have changed, but if i can find a reasonably-priced stove to put in that space, i will definitely call Ron back up to install it.

Ron was a pleasure to work with. He returned my initial call within a few hours and came to my house to speak with me and assess the situation within a few days at no cost. He also provided proof of insurance before I could even ask along with the quote, which was competitive with the two others I requested. Ron is very knowledgeable about fireplaces/chimneys and provided numerous options as to what could be done to fix the problem and the relative costs associated with each. After deciding how to proceed, scaffolds and other equipment were set up and the entire job was completed within three days. The finished product looks great. It is obvious that Ron takes great pride in his work and I will not hesitate to recommend him to others.

He seemed to know what he was doing. He inspected the chimney and he said it was all okay. There was not problem except some work needed to be done at the top that sticks out of the house. Then he said he would like to do that work. I had called him numerous times since then and never heard back from him, so it was a negative experience. I don't think he sent me a quote, that was part of the problem.

I am very impressed with Ron Anderson's company and work. I called late Tuesday afternoon and he was here at 9 AM Wednesday morning for an estimate. He was able to begin the project the following week. It only took three days to complete. The work involved making a plastic "tent" around the fireplace to contain the dust and debris. They tore out the inside of the fire place and removed any loose mortar and brick from the chimney. Then they inserted a new stainless steel flu in the chimney and next filled the chimney with a special insulation (that involved carrying several heavy bags of the mixed insulation--think of mixing cement in a trough--and carrying it up ladders to the top of the chimney on the third floor, and then pouring it down the chimney until it was filled). Somewhere in the process they also inserted a new damper (I never knew the damper didn't have to be fully open and usually burns better partially closed, until he told me--and I discovered he was right!). I almost forgot to mention the new pre-cast firebox--it was quite awesome how it fit together in five sections, and the bottom had raised ridges so no andirons are needed. I anticipated this project to be very dusty and dirty (as well as lengthy)--but I was so wrong! When they left after completing the work the room was actually cleaner than before they started!! And I was amazed at the ease with which they completed the project. There was no second guessing or thinking about what needs to be done next--they new every detail every step of the way. Ron is an extremely professional, honest, courteous, respectful, and very nice person. I can say the same for his work crew. If you are thinking of having any chimney, fireplace, or masonry work done, don't waste your time calling around for estimates. I will use Ron Anderson for any future related projects. He even capped-off the other non-working chimneys on my house while he was here. I was glad that I had the fireplace conversion done before this past long and cold winter. I spent many, many nights with book and brandy in front of the fireplace. I much prefer wood to gas burning fireplaces--I have used both and still favor wood. (My apologies for waiting so long to write this review--I'm just a procrastinator. Sorry Ron.)

Workers "tented" around the fireplace to contain any dust, debris, etc. works was completed in approximately 3 days. Ron did return a week later to paint the inside of the fireplace. We originally did write a review and don't know why it's not showing up as a completed review. We were very happy with the work and finally getting a working wood-burning fireplace.

Ron responded to my initial call very promptly, and made arrangements to accomodate my schedule. He arrived on time. He and his worker were concerned about not tracking in mud into my house. It turned out that the problem with the gas logs was user error. He then discussed with me some ideas about how to attach the antique fireplace cover plate that I wanted to retain in my old house. No cost was involved.

I have a fireplace not functioning at all. I had received a quote when I bought the house to have the issue corrected. That was some time ago. I wanted to get a second opinion on the matter. I called and set up a time to meet Ron. He stopped by and explained to me that he could indeed fix the problem for roughly the same cost as the previous person. He then pointed out that this would make the fireplace functional but that the fireplace firebox/flue combination are not the appropriate size. This was evident due to the smoke stains on the exterior (outside the firebox but inside the house) chimney. He explained the work that was required and an approximate cost. Move forward a year. I was ready to do the project. I called and spoke with Ron again. He stopped back by, reviewed the project again, updated his estimate and time frame. Very straightforward about the schedule and why it had to be the way it is. He explained exactly what was going to be done and how they would perform the work. The work started and everything went smooth. Work was exactly how it was said to be done. The debris was cleaned up and there was no harm to the room. Project stayed on schedule and I am very pleased with the results. Ron and his crew were very professional and respectful of me and my house. I would not hesitate to recommend or use his services again

Our house was built in 1903 and we moved here a year and a half ago. From his first meeting with us, Ron explained the entire process and all the work involved. Since he is from the area he is familiar with older homes and knows the kind of work involved. He showed us pictures and video of similar projects he had done in the past. Ron and his workers came on a Monday to do the outside work cleaning the chimney, pointing and installing the cap and also started the demolition of the fireplace inside in order to install the insert. They continued the work the following day, doing more inside work on the fireplace. He had to order the insert, so he came back to finish the work about 2 weeks later when the insert arrived. He returned another day to just spray paint the insert black. He and his workers were neat and prompt and made sure things were clean when done. They didn't leave a mess and made sure any dust and debris was gone. We are writing this review in front of a fire in our new working wood-burning fireplace!
Description of Work: We had our fireplace opened that was not in use for many years. It was previously a gas fireplace. Ron put in a new fireplace insert as well as a liner in the chimney, a new chimney cap and damper. He also pointed and cleaned the chimney.

Ron Anderson, the owner, came out to my property the next day after I had spoken with him. He was professional, straight-forward, courteous, and very understanding of my situation. I was preparing my home for sale, and was short on time. I accepted his estimate, and the work was done by the end of the following week, all work started and completed on the same day. Ron and his crew, Mo and Cam, were professional and courteous throughout the work. The job was challenging from the start due to the steepness and height of the roof. They were good-natured despite the special challenges. Their work on the chimney was amazing! They turned a crumbling chimney into a masonry work of art! By the time they had finished, it was the best-looking chimney on the block!! Also, they cleaned out gutters that had leaves/soil/small trees in them, also with the challenges of steepness and height, approaching the work with the same good-natured attitude. Also, Ron himself replaced the three sections of flue collar pipe and one tee that were in need of repair. He was able to get this work done before I had to leave for my own job that afternoon. Ron Anderson was so very considerate of my time restriction that day, getting the inside work done and providing me an invoice for work completed and paid for that day, providing me a valuable record that I needed for the 'closing' on my house. Ron, Mo, and Cam provided OUTSTANDING service!!! ANDERSON CHIMNEYS, FIREPLACES, MASONRY is AMAZING and FIRST-RATE !!! THANK YOU for the wonderful service!!!
Description of Work: Inspected existing aluminum chimney liner for proper venting of the furnace and hot water heater, replaced three sections of flue collar pipe and one tee which was in need of repair, re-pointed the chimney where needed, and installed a three inch concrete crown on top of chimney to protect it from moisture damage. These repairs made the chimney safe and code compliant. Anderson also cleaned out gutters that had foliage growing out of them.

It never did. He stood me up.
Description of Work: I called Ron earlier in the week to set up an appointment at 8:00am in the morning. I told him that I work during the day and will call in a little late to have him come in the morning and give me an estimate in installing a gas insert into my existing chimney. I got up early and got dressed and waited for him. About 8:28am, I call him wondering where he was. He said he emailed me and text me that he was going to be late. That was an outright lie. Here's the thing, if you forget an appointment, just own it, say, "I'm sorry, I totally forgot," and then we can reschedule. By lying, I will NEVER use him again and it shows a lack of good moral conduct. So, I said forget it. In short, he never came to my house for an estimate and never will. He totally stood me up this morning. Totally unprofessional.

Response from Anderson Chimneys Fireplaces Masonry
I spoke to the member about a week before we made the appointment to come to her home. I informed her that I was very busy and backed up; ldo to this being my busy season for fireplaces, as well as the fact that I was in the middle of moving my residence. I told the member that I would fit her into my very busy schedule and that I would come and do and inspection at her home for FREE!! I got my schedule mixed up and responded to a email which I believed to be the member asking if I could be Kathy her home by 9am. I responded and thought at 830 am when Ms. Called me that I was on my way on time. She informed me that I was late, I told her I could be at her home with in 5 mins. She was upset and decided to cancel the Free inspection which we had set up. I emailed her and informed her that I would be will to reschedule at another time to do the FREE inspection at her home. She did not respond. I tried to apologize to her and reschedule the appointment. I have missed appointments in the past and I have always been very up front and owned the fact the I may have made a mistake! I would not lie to cover up my honest mistake. I was trying to be helpful to the member by fitting her in and by not charging her for a inspection which there is a fee for most times. I made a mistake and I apologized to her. We try are best to never have unhappy clients. I welcome all reviews and client feed back. I will work harder to do better.

We were looking for someone to retrofit the non-functional fireplace in our Victorian home. A friend in the neighborhood who hired Ron Anderson's company said he did a fantastic job on the two fireplaces in her historic home, so we gave him a ring. We had such a great initial meeting that we never actually sought other quotes. We talked to friends who had this type of work done and we knew Ron was competitive. Plus, we've renovated two old houses and we've used countless tradespeople, from electricians and plumbers to plasters and roofing companies. Ron stood out as a knowledgeable and friendly; he took his time with us during the initial meeting, showed us photos, and answered all our questions. We learned that Ron's company also installed gas fireplaces and did brick repointing, two other services we had intended to seek. So, during the past year the company did an extensive range of work for us: installed a direct-vent gas fireplace, retrofitted a second fireplace for wood burning, repointed the entire side of our three-story house, capped chimneys, re-vented our boiler for our heating, and cleaned our fireplace. After working closely with Ron and his team, we couldn't recommend them enough. And, as an aside, Ron is just a nice guy! Which also means he hires other good people -- Mo, a guy on his team, cared just as much about the quality of his work as Ron. Ron has certainly set the new standard for professionals in our household. Now when we assess a contractor we always think, "Well, he's no Ron Anderson..."!

Ron and his two associates were very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. They explained what they were doing and asked us for input as to exactly what we wanted while the job was in progress. They spent 4 days here. Each night they cleaned up and now that they are gone there is no evidence that they were ever here other than 2 good looking chimneys and a beautiful and now functional fireplace. I have recommended this company to my daughter for work on her chimney. I can't recommend this company high enough. We are do your selfers and are very critical of others work. We are so very impressed with these men and the impressive labor intensive work that they do.
Description of Work: Two chimneys were partailly taken down, rebuilt, and pointed. One chimney was permanently sealed. Our old fireplace was completely chiseled out and replaced with a new fireplace surround placed over fireproof insulation. A new liner and flue were put in the chimney for the fireplace. The other flue that was replaced was for the hot water heater. When Ron came out to give us an estimate, he discovered that bricks had fallen into the chimney and were blocking the exhaust from the hot water heater. Before any of us knew that we were hiring him, he cleaned out the chimney so that the water heater was vented. No charge! He said that he couldn't leave us with the chance of carbon monoxide escaping into the house.

A few days after contacting Mr Anderson he came out to the house, even though he had been told that he was a second and compeating contractor. His repair suggestions and price were very close to that of the second contractor and a decision of which to hire was difficult. In the end, we went with the first, but would have had no problem with hiring ANDERSON if our choice had not been been available within the period we needed them.
Description of Work: Mr Anderson inspected the chimney of our 45 year old home, and recomended what he felt were necessary repairs. The chimney is for our gas furnace. He then prepared a detailed description of the repairs, costs, and a written contract.

chimney caps

Ron was prompt, very helpful, communicative and informative. He introduced his helper, and they had the cap installed in a short time. After having several problems trying to get roofing, chimney, chimney cleaning, etc. done over the years, it was a real pleasure finding Ron (through Angie's list!)
Description of Work: Ron installed a chimney cap. He explained the differences in caps on the phone, how some would cost much more than others, and what a basic cap would do as well to prevent water and animals from getting in. We made an appointment and he installed the cap shortly thereafter.
