Jim and First Quality Construction worked that Saturday from 8am up through noon with a 3 person crew doing some demo. They destroyed my yard by stacking brick in the middle of my grass, didn't clean up well after from all the mortar from tearing down the bricks over my existing porch and left it in the grass like shrapnel waiting for the lawn mower. A full week went by and he never showed up at my house except to drop off some 2x10s to prop up the porch and just lay them over the existing joyce waiting to be demoed. He came for another half day with just 2 guys that saturday, they finished the demo work and proped up the porch and left for the day. I asked Jim why I saw beer cans and he claimed it was him, and he's not clocking hours and just supervising since it was the weekend. That's a bad sign. He also was to remove an old oil tank under the porch. He came back the next day, had a friend use a hand pump, pumped out all the heating oil (got it all over my grass too where they spilled it while transporting it in garbage cans) to give to his friend and then closed up shop saying how they can't find the caps to the tank, it will stink overnight but he'll get it out the next day. Four days went by and he didn't remove that tank and its fumes. My neighbors were about to lynch me so I called to hammer him on it and he claimed he was waiting for the weekend to come so his friend who wanted the tank could take it to his house. I told him it wasn't acceptable and to come remove the tank. I also reminded him it was 12 days into the project (2 days past his deadline) and what we were going to do to get back on track. He said he'd be there the following Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to finish the job. He nor his crew came a single day except to pickup some old railing they were going to sandblast at their shop so they could be re-used. I called him again but he started dodging my calls. They when he would return the calls, he claimed he was busy at another client site or out of town and couldn't understand why I was upset. After 18 days, still only demo work being done and flat out lied to about how they'd be there the previous 5 days and they never came once or even bought any materals, I fired him. I told him to get me receipts of all materials used to date and all man hours used for the demo and we'd agree, settle the difference and he'd get back to me. After 5 more days, he returned the call trying to convice me to allow him to finish the work to which I declined saying that we just don't believe or trust him. I made it clear I want my materials back he had (posts and railings), keys to my house that he was issued and a detailed itemized list so we could agree and he could cut me a check for the difference. He promised he'd get back to me later that afternoon. He never called.I kept calling him, he dodged me at every chance. I finally had to change the locks to my house, go to the bbb and the state attorny. I chatted with the arbitrator assigned to the case who said the process is long but Jim and his company are not a shock to see on his case load since they're seen by the state often for this type of work.I went another route and had my lawyer friends call up a civil case against him that is scheduled for a few weeks from now. Once he recieved a copy of this suit against him, the materials showed up the very next day but he never returned the key or made an attempt to contact me. On another bizarre note: I had calls from someone (private number) claiming to know him saying how he does this all the time and they hope I put him in jail and how he doesn't have anything (money) nor can he pay me back anything, how he does this all the time to everyone including this person's family members, etc. This was very unprofessional and I didn't know if said person was trying to pump me for information on what I would do but I mean come on, someone checking his voicemails?? I would never use this company again. I wish I checked our Angie's list first and saw this so I'd at least question him and never give him half down even if he assured me this wasn't his MO. I strongly warn anyone who sees these last two reviews, this is a trend for Jim and his company and I plan to Google what I can and print out the other cases against him to use at my civil case against him to reclaim the money he never spent on materials or work done and then I had to chase him like a creditor where he just had excuses or wouldn't return the calls.
Description of Work: Much like the review seen with the other review, I had the same experience. I needed my front porch fixed since it was falling apart with rotted wood. I got the name of this company from my neighbor since he had him do some work tarring his roof a couple years back. Jim Vertacle Jr and First Quality Construction was fast to come down, take a look at things, give an estimate. Jim promised that since things are working out well, they have an opening that they can start work immediately (that saturday), and guarantees 7-10 days to complete the work. Given the price seemed about right, I agreed and paid him half up front ($4480) for materials.

This company should not be allowed to have a license after the number of times they have done this. Do not let them waste your time or your money. I am pursing legal action and contacting the attorney general's office that has previously sued them for violating Consumer Protection Law in Luzerne county court.
Description of Work: I hired First Quality Construction, i.e. Jim Veredekal Jr without having thouroughly checked the company through BBB and Angie's List. Don't make that mistake! Google the name and check with the PA contractors list to show past litigation filed against this company for ripping off homeowners under the public court records! I paid half of an 8000 contract to get a roof replaced and thought I was getting a deal when he included to replace the gutters for the same estimate price. This was ballpark to the estimate I got from Home Depot. I got the estimate done March 26th 2010 and put a start date down of April 10th. (PA attorney's website states, they are required to have a finish date as well.) The 10th of April passed and I waited about a week to call to be fair permitting spring weather. I also counted the number of straight days of sunshine. I called and was told that they had taken another job and mine would have to wait. I called ever few days getting different excuses, weather, medical, not enough workers etc. I finally threatened to cancel the contract upon which they showed up the next day, this was in June! I amended the contract to add a finish date including the stipulation he be responsible for the insurance penalty we would pay for not having the work done on time. They showed up working from 2-5 hours a day skipping days in between. I also observed that the shingle warranty for 30 years called for a smooth surface during installation to validate the warranty. Their installation had patched plywood of different thicknesses ranging from .5 to an inch that you could see the shingles sunk in and they weren't straight. I called to inquire but got more excuses. I finally fired them for taking over a week to complete half the job poorly and threatened to sue which is the only outcome at this point. The owner, Jim Jr offered to pay back $1000 (they only used half the materials) but would not pay the insurance cost as he previously agreed. After several attempts to contact, to resolve the outstanding refund he never called or wrote back. I hired a different contractor who showed up and finished in 4 days. When winter arrived, I had problems with my gutters on the 1st Quality side of the house because they didn't clean up their debris and clogged the gutters forming an ice dam.
