Mr. Jackson promptly responded to my email inquiry to schedule an estimate. He was on time, professional, and efficient when he visited to give the estimate. He did the work as scheduled, called me at work immediately when a question came up with one project, and did a beautiful job on each project. One of the light fixtures had not yet arrived when he came to do the work, and he returned within just a few days to install it once it arrived. He doesn't waste your time, and he has a pleasant, dry sense of humor and is very easy to deal with.
Description of Work: Replaced two light fixtures, hung a sliding door, hung a rail on tile wall, weather stripped an entry door, and fixed a storm door that did not close properly.

He came out about two weeks ago. He an assistant completed a list of work we had compiled during an estimate session. He completed the work within 6 hours. He was professional, efficient, pleasant, and good to deal with. They were a little on the expensive side for the time needed to complete the work. I would use him again. He is conscientious, ethical, and personally a very moral person. Character is not unimportant. His company is busy and it took a week to schedule an estimate session. He took another week to come and complete the work. He is too busy for next day service. But, the service, when you receive it is excellent. He offers and honors a 10 coupon with your Angie's List Magazine. He did good work and I would use him again.
Description of Work: He repaired some flooring, concrete repair, fixed some wall paper, and painted a door, etc.
As on prior occasions, I called Chris's cell phone and we agreed on a date for the work. He had to reschedule because a job on which he was working was taking longer than expected. When we returned from a trip, I called again and he was able to come within two days. He called that morning to confirm the appointment. On arrival, he looked over the items to be tackled, quoted a price, set to work and finished promptly. Working with Chris has always been a refreshingly direct and straightforward experience. His work has been professional and reliable.
Description of Work: Chris is indeed a "master of many" trades, which is why we continue to call on his skills as our "honey-do" tasks accumulate. On this occasion he replaced the broken pull-chain switch of the ceiling fluorescent light fixture in the laundry room, shaved a half-inch off the edge of a wooden gate that was preventing it from closing, found a means of eliminating a stubborn stain on our kitchen linoleum floor that had apparently leached out of a doormat, replaced two outdoor flood lamps that are mounted higher than I can comfortably reach on stepladder and repaired an area of the varnish on our breakfast table that had become damaged. On previous occasions his work has included installing and rewiring a new doorbell, replacing and painting part of a window frame that had been damaged by termites to match the undamaged part of the frame, installing a snow melter cable on the kitchen porch roof, attaching brackets to a concrete wall to hold an outdoor water line, re-cementing floor tiles that had been loosened by water seepage and repairing a hard-to-reach under-the-counter lazy Susan whose shelves had begun to slide down. That is only a partial list.

Overall, it was a good experience. Chris came out for an estimate within a couple days of me contacting him. The work was scheduled for about two weeks after the estimate. I asked him to check on an energy efficient door so that I could get a tax incentive, and he checked on this for me. I decided to use a standard door in the end because it was cheaper than an energy efficient door with the tax incentive. The installation took about 3 hours to complete. They even replaced some rotten wood that was installed to support the door, which required them to take a trip to Lowe's after they tore out the old door. I don't think this was in the original scope of work, so I was glad that they took care of this for me.
Description of Work: Removed rotted molding and door from my basement. Installed new prehung door in the original opening. They also hauled away the old door. I painted the door and molding after they installed the door. They also installed safety cables for the extension springs on my garage door.

After meeting with Chris I needed to think about his bid as I had received bids from a couple of other people. This surprised him as he thought I would go forward immediately. I thought about it overnight and decided to go with him. He was the middle bid. On the starting day, he came with two other men. He gave them directions and left one man to complete the job. His assistant was very polite and accommodating. When he finished painting, he had done a fantastic job. The vent project was done after the painting. Chris completed this. Again, the work done was exceptionally. Having had some of my items moved from the basement to the first floor, I requested that one of Chris' crew help me move them back. As it turned out, the items were moved back before I got home (from work).
Description of Work: I asked to have my basement floor and walls painted. They needed to be cleaned, primed and painted. In addition, most of my storage area is in the basement, so things had to be moved to complete the job and then returned. My initial request was for painting, but I also needed the vent on my dryer changed. This included purchasing materials and putting a hole in an outside wall for ventilation. This was also completed.

I had been told that I needed a new deck but Chris said he could refurbish the existing deck, and at a much lower cost than a replacement deck would have been. He came when he said he would, he had good ideas, he did excellent work, and he saved me a bundle of money! He has my highest recommendation.

Estimate was prompt, friendly, professional, and accurate. Chris and his assistant did good work, and did so at the scheduled time. Overall, it's clear they did good work, diligently and responsibly. Other contractors I got an estimate from, for the sake of contrast, suggested little "shortcuts" that Chris could've taken but didn't he chose the best way to do the job, not necessarily the easiest. Still, some minor points, if you're a perfectionist: The outlet is a little off-kilter (see photo), and some of the spackling is a little hasty and lacks the kind of texture-matching Chris had suggested he'd give me. A few other small things, not about the work itself, also detracted slightly from the experience. For example, a window was left open in the room adjacent the bathroom (where they gave access to the new circuit). For another, they needed some drywall screws, I think to close the access panel, so they took them from an access panel in a different room. A little odd, that's all. Overall, a really good experience and a contractor I'll definitely work with again if I have more work. UPDATE: After I wrote the rest of my report, I noticed Chris replaced a missing toilet seat in my basement toilet. He had joked about it, but he actually made a trip to the store, pick up the seat, and installed it. Really considerate thing to do, and I thought it shouldn't go without mention. Thanks Chris!
Description of Work: Work in bathroom: installed fan (with exhaust out cement siding), timer for fan, GFCI receptacle. Ran new circuit (from 2nd floor) for fan and outlet.

GOOD EYE. IT IS ALWAYS INTERESTING TO SEE THE HOW THE CUSTOMER VIEWS THE DETAILS. ON HIND SIGHT THE WINDOW WAS LET OPEN TO HELP VENT SOME OF THE DUST KICKED UP DURING THE INSTALLATION. AS FAR AS SCREWS GO, WE HAVE BOXES OF THEM IN THE TRUCK. LASTLY AS FAR AS THE TEXTURING ON THE CEILING ETC. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO MATCH BECAUSE IT WAS THAT OF A WOVEN WALL PAPER AS APPOSED TO A SWIRL OR A STUCCO EFFECT. YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO THE PAINTING AND THAT INCLUDES ANY LIGHT SANDING TO SMOOTH ANY ROUGH EDGES. THANK YOU FOR HIGH GRADES AND FAIR COMMENTS AND COMPARISON. MERRY MERRY AND HAPPY HAPPY SEE YOU SOON FOR FUTURE PROJECTS.

I called Chris Jackson after being ditched by another handyman mid-job. I saw his high rating on Angie's List. He set up a time to give me an estimate. I called the night before to confirm and he arrived promptly the next day. I had a basement door that needed to be replaced. I already had the door because it had been ordered by the previous handyman that disappeared mid-job. Chris determined the door was not the right size for the basement opening. He went out of his way to call a manager at a home improvement store to see if it could be returned. Unfortunately it could not because it was custom ordered. His went ahead and installed the door we had by not using the frame. It worked out fine. Since we just moved in an old house I had a number of items that needed to be looked at. I went ahead and asked Chris for an estimate on everything because he was obviously competent and knowledgeable. He advised us to add wrap on the inside of our windows for the cold Pittsburgh winters until we could get new windows. Also, he fixed 2 doorbells, checked out our broiler to make sure it was working correctly, showed me how to bleed the radiators, moved a curio (without charging me extra) and fixed some spindles my kids broke on the staircase. His partner, Brandon was very helpful as well. Both guys were really professional, helpful and friendly. They finished the work within two days which I thought was very reasonable since I just called them the week prior to the work being completed. I would definitely recommend them and I will use them again for any service we need that they provide.
Description of Work: Installed a basement door, fixed 2 doorbells, checked broiler and bled radiators, insulated windows with wrap for the Winter, closed stuck windows, moved furniture, and repaired broken staircase spindles (2).

This is the third project that Chris has done for me and, once again, the work of first rate. As always, he arrived on time, completed the work in a timely, professional manner and left my porch spotless.

She seemed pretty honest. Her prices seemed really fair. She showed up on time. She cleaned up really well after herself. She was also able to answer any questions I had.
Description of Work: I hired Chris Jackson to repair and refurbish all of the siding and gutters. I also had him re-stain my deck and replace several windows.
We obtained estimates from 3 painters/contractors. Chris came out one evening, about 1 month after we contacted him (in fairness, we were away for 2 weeks of that month). He was very professional and friendly. His estimate was in the middle of the 3, but based on Angie's list reviews and his knowledge of the scope of the work, we felt more comfortable with him than the lower estimate. Chris called us by the end of that week with prices, but we did not get anything in writing until we requested it on more than one occasion. Chris always answers his phone when you call, so it easy to follow-up. The work was scheduled for 2 months after we received the estimate. Chris arrived with 2 workers and reviewed the job with us and the workers. The workers started immediately and seemed to be extremely efficient and professional. The completed the work in 3 days. We are very pleased with the finished product, and look forward to them doing the next rooms. Because some of the work in the estimate was completed by an electrician, Chris asked what else he could do for us and we asked him to clean out our gutters and repair one that was not draining. We did have to remind him about this at the end of the painting, but it was done.
Description of Work: Painted dining room, kitchen wall, and hallway. Installed ceiling medallion (over chandelier) in dining room. Added "shoe" to the bottom of the baseboards in the dining room. Cleaned outdoor gutters and repaired one. We also have estimates on painting the remaining interior of the house, which will be done over the next few months.

It was an excellent experience. It was a three day job that they were on time for every day. It was a pleasure to watch a group of workers who knew what they were doing throughout the installation. They only stopped to grab lunch, and worked steady to get the work completed. The ceiling came out beautifully, and changed the whole look of the kitchen. They also cleaned up the area very nicely after the job. The one thing that stood out to me while they worked was that there was none of the type of language that you would expect while a bunch of guys were working together. They acted very professionally. We simply could not have asked for more.
Description of Work: We wanted to find someone to install a tin ceiling in our kitchen. Since there is no "tin ceiling" category I started with researching contractor categories and found Chris listed in many areas with excellent reports. I called Chris, and although he had no experience in tin ceilings, he was interested as it was a new challenge. Chris came over when scheduled, looked over what we wanted, and worked up a contract which we found very fair. He then scheduled the job the following month.( We told him time was not an issue). Chris and his crew were very professional, polite, and friendly. They had researched the proper procedure for installing a tin ceiling, and the few problems that were run into during installation were thought out and addressed correctly. They also installed a new ceiling fan/light we bought to match the new ceiling. We have a 90 year old home, and nothing is square or level. They started out by putting up furring strips across the ceiling to make it level by shimming most of the strips. They then attached sheets of lauan to make a surface to attach the tin ceiling squares to. Trim strips were also put up along with a tin crown molding all around.

He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He replaced the shower head in one bathroom and tested it. They charged a reasonable rate for the work - it was great that he could do all the work I needed done!

Tony reported to residence to perform most tasks. He was pleasant, accommodating and a quick and efficient worker. Tony had to consult Mr. Jackson on two tasks he said were better performed by Mr. Jackson. Everything was done well. There was no debris to pick up and Tony always informed us of what he was doing. This company is exceptional. In addition, Mr. Jackson's prices aren't expensive. They are just delightful and they tell you exactly how much it is going to cost! He's brilliant!
Description of Work: Numerous "honey do " jobs included installing an air conditioner, removing installed blinds, fixing garage window, cleaning and painting window bars. In February, he did plastering over some holes, painting, and some insulation. He even used a plain old needle to fix a faucet that was clogged due to a calcium build up.
Chris returned my call promptly, inspected the jobs to be completed, gave an estimate for the work to be completed and scheduled the work to be done. All work completed promptly and in a quality manner. Chris can do a lot of different things and his pricing is very good. He's great resource when you need a lot of little jobs done or even major construction. Definitely will use him again.
