VERY WELL! Chris was very responsive and gave me an on the spot estimate and scheduled the work for a date less than 2 weeks from the initial meeting. Called me twice during the day (totally appropriate) to clarify and ask a question- which is something very important to me. Plaster and painting- very good- looks like new! Built a perfect window seat with storage- exactly what I wanted.
Description of Work: Repair plaster in a ceiling and wall, built a bench seat in a small bedroom, fixed sliding deck door and tightened handrail on steps.

Chris was great to work with from start to finish. He responded to my phone call promptly and assessed numerous projects in our initial meeting. He was able to start work the following week. Chris and one of his workers put in a full day to complete a fairly long list of odd jobs and projects. He was happy to answer questions and verify how we wanted different jobs done, which I appreciated. The quality of work was excellent. I have already recommended Chris' services to a few neighbors and would work with him again.
Description of Work: Chris and one of his workers completed numerous projects in our home. Projects included adjusting garage door to keep out as much cold air as possible, attaching safety cable to garage door springs, changing a light fixture and installing towel rods and toilet paper holders in 3 bathrooms, planing two doors so they shut properly, patch/prime/paint holes in a couple walls/doors, weatherstripping front door and painting trim, shutting casement window that doesn't shut properly, installing in-line switches for 2 table lamps, patch/texture/prime/paint area of ceiling damaged by water leak, caulking and repairing grout in 2 showers and hanging various pieces of art.

Chris and two workers came on time and went right to work, one on each project, with supervision by Chris. They discovered a leak in the pipes below the toilet. Instead of replacing all of the pipes, they recommended a repair. They soldered it and left the hole in the ceiling open, in case there was an addtional leak. The leak in the powderroom was from a valve, and was fixed. The faucet handles in the shower were old and needed new stems and washers. While he was there, he did a little repair to the grout. They did a great job, cleaned up well, and will come back to patch the hole in the ceiling.
Description of Work: Investigated drywall damage in kitchen ceiling under toilet. Fixed leaky valve and flapper in powder room. repaired water faucet handles in shower (new stems, washers)

I've lived in my house 17 years and have always had problems with peeling plaster around 2 windows due to water. Recently, however, other windows began experiencing the same problems. I got Chris's number from Angies List and called him to set up an appointment. He was very affable and certainly knew his business. The price seemed reasonable so I hired him. He started on Monday, Oct. 5th and was finished with all work by Thursday, Oct. 8th. I have had other people try and stop the leaks, all to no available. Chris was the only one who actually explained to me how the windows were constructed, why the water was coming in, and what the solutions would be. While the work was in progress, his helper also offered further explanations why the water had been coming in. Even though there was no guarantee, he said he would return if any problems occurred. I was impressed with the knowledge, the workmanship, and the professionalism of the company. I'm thinking of remodeling my kitchen & bathroom. I'll certainly use them.
Description of Work: Chris and crew caulked, repointed, & sealed several windows that had plaster damage due to water leakage. In addition, he installed 2 glass block windows in my basement. Also, he installed 2 downspouts.

Description of Work: Chris repaired my garage door and did a great job. He also had a helper and they painted the foundation wall on my house. I wanted him to put an extra layer of paint on the wall, but he said it did not need it and it looks nice, with the primer and two layers of paint.

Great experience. Mr. Jackson was pleasant to deal with from start to finish. He arrived promptly to do an estimate. Two weeks later he and his assistant arrived promptly to do the work. They were quick, clean and courteous. He even did a small repair on the front door (no charge) without being asked. Hire Chris Jackson. You won't regret it.

Some of the work was fine. The gutter was fixed well, and the gutters were cleaned. However, the water damage fixing was very messy and only partially cleaned up, and in addition the wrong color paint was used so now we will have to get our whole ceiling repainted. Also, after taking the day off work, he called in the morning to say that he wasn't going to make it that day. Very unprofessional in that respect.

Response from Chris Jackson's Contracting
We were called to the member's home to repair a number of things. We were asked to address one area in the living room and when we showed up there were three. We were also told the customer had the paint and upon a thorough search found none. As for the mess, touching up three spots, two at no additional charge. Did not produce any mess. It did however produce a terrible smell as we must use shellac based products to hide water staining. We also Diagnosed and repaired suspect areas on the chimney above the dining room without added cost. Two door latches were on the list to fix but while I was repairing them I noticed a door stop missing and fixed two other door latches and you guessed it at no additional cost. We regret that we were not able to show up at our scheduled time . As she noted we called on the day appointed and notified her. As a contractor with three crews usually we get The scheduling right . This summer however has had record rain fall and has reeked havoc on all outside work. Occasionally we find that customers add to our work load while we are on the job and then the unexpected looms over us all the time. We regret that we did not meet with your expectations but we also feel we did our best. Unfortunately you did not call us first to resolve a conflict we were unaware of. We are reasonable people and would gladly return to correct any issues. Thank you for reading and We hope others reading will see the whole picture.

Chris Jackson came to our house one evening in November after we closed on our new house. We went over all the things that had to be done. He presented us with a written contract but did not give us a copy. It was late and insisted that he send a copy to us immediately. He agreed to email a copy the next day. I asked him to do the work after we moved into the house. He refused. He said that it had to be done before we moved in, otherwise he would not be able to perform the work. In fact, it also meant that we could not inspect the work and comment on materials being used, where they were placed, and what function they would have. I finally received my copy of the contract and was very angry that it did not say what we had agreed on verbally. He never presented us with a finally invoice with a detailing of materials and labor. We came back three days after he had finished the work to inspect it and were aghast. There was a flood in the furnace room and windows and walls were sweating in the basement and first floor. The flood would have remained for another week until we moved in had we not noticed this flood during our inspection. He admitted the flood was caused by his improperly installing a humidifier to the furnace. He stopped the leak and cleaned up the flood, however, the humidifier never worked properly. We called him several times and emailed him about this. He came once for about five minutes, never went through the house to go over what he had done. He claimed there was not enough time. He did inspect the water filter and claimed it was working fine. That was because another contractor had fixed it but only temporarily. It stopped working a few weeks after Jackson had come back d to the house. It is summer now and the humidifier leaks. In addition, he installed a vent that was supposed to be reinforced from the dryer to the outside. The vent collapsed after only a couple of months. A friend of mine did extra reinforcement of the vent which has been working OK. In addition, he had promised to fix a screen door. He put a spring on it but it does not properly work. He had said he would prepare the attic so that we could at least walk through it to inspect for any damage from the roof. All he did was place a few thin boards unsecured in the attic. I was only able to get one workman who was used to working in attics without floors to go up to the attic. He also installed a vent in the door in the basement which was supposed to equalize air flow in the basement. It was a waste of time, it did nothing. He never advised us that the water filter to the sink would only work for cold water as I needed one for warm water as well. After several attempts at getting Jackson to correct these problems I just gave up. Update since this last report the humidifier has stopped working or started leaking several times. In 2009 a contractor I am using now had advised me that the humidifier was improperly wired, and actually should be replaced as being poorly designed and installed. Finally in January 2011 two years after the humidifier was put in it totally crashed causing a severe flood. I have now contracted to put in a whole new system. I have read Mr. Jackson's response and I agree that up until he did this work on our house in Greenfield we were totally satisfied with his work. We did have a good working relationship. The work of moving our things was as good as any mover we have ever used. And he did stick to his estimate. But like most movers we have had he disassembled furniture but never reassembled it. He only moved the things we could not move in a car. As I said, no mover I have used was any better, some were much worse. He is wrong in saying that I did not contact him. I contacted him numerous times after we moved which he never acknowledged so we just gave up. He also said when he did come that everything was fine and it was not, otherwise I would not have had to retain other contractors.
Description of Work: Chris Jackson has done a great deal of fine work at good prices over the past several years. The job he did in our new house was in part also done well, but much was left undone or not as promised. He was overpriced for what he did. He installed a toilet, painted outside windows, installed a motion sensor light on the garage. He installed a gcfi switch to a sump pump in the garage and installed a water filter to sink. He installed a centralized humidifier

Response from Chris Jackson's Contracting
Wow, This is a mouth full . It appears that it was written with a vengeance. The member was served by our company way back in January. He fails to tell us that he had a written estimate with a price and all work was completed as agreed, otherwise I would not have rec. payment. We make no claims of infallibility and in this case we did have a few problems .A washer on the valve feeding the new humidifier twisted ,unknown to us at the time of the installation. We showed up fixed it in a timely manner cleaned the minimal mess, there was a floor drain, exchanged a few comments and went on our way. I rec. a call from the customer again and was told the humidifier was not working . I responded and found it working fine. We answered a few questions and again parted. I have not rec. a call from the customer since late feb. He has always been a fine customer and we have always had an amicable relationship. This consternation and these accusations come as a surprise to us. We regret two things. Firstly that there seems to be a disconnect in his ability to resolve this conflict without any recent attempt at contacting us . Secondly Most of the issues he has addressed were discussed in detail several times and at no time did I sense frustration or dissatisfaction with any of the services rendered. It would have been nice to have him recognize that we moved He and his wife into his new house when no one was ava. We even packed all his belongings in lots of boxes which we provided, without any extra charge and fixed all these things before he moved in, without his assistance. He left his poor wife to handle the whole thing saying it was to stressful ? We sincerely hope that those of you reading this will realize that this report is number three that are negative out of over two hundred, some of which come from him in a more favorable light. Thank you for reading.

I really liked the quality of their work and they have really good attention to detail. They are reasonably priced. Chris Jackson is extremely responsive. He answers his cell phone all of the time. He is open to feedback. He goes over the work with me at the end of every paint job. He?ll touch up anything that needs to be touched up. They also clean up after themselves. Those are some great things about them. There is one negative. He did not give me a written estimate for the work. He wrote it up before he started the work. There were some things that I requested and I don't think he heard them. He didn't write them down and they didn't happen. I would recommend to people that they make sure he writes down anything specific that they want. We wanted a different type of paint. I realized that he wasn't using the kind of paint that we wanted. When I let him know that he wasn't using the paint we wanted, he was happy to use what we wanted. He just had not heard what I had asked for.

Response from Chris Jackson's Contracting
Let me quote an old maxim. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. I remember starting out when I did not have the experience I have now . I Did not advertise, was not incorporated , did not wear uniforms, or have Insurance. I worked out of the back seat of a 1982 Honda accord and because I had low overhead was able to work for twenty dollars an hour. As you stay in business however, If you are in it for the long run, legitimacy demands that you develop a system to protect your customers interests, the state, the feds and yourself. This brings professionalism to the market and all respectable businesses. It comes however at a cost. Do you drive the cheapest car? Would you go to the cheapest heart surgeon? Do you buy all your children 's Toys at the dollar store? I think not. There will be a day when you will feel this way about one of your greatest assets. Did your new found handy man change the thermal fuses on your can lights or did he just by pass them ? you should know before leave them on for any length of time. How about your toilet did he use the more expensive repair kit or did he just get the run of the mill one . Imagine if it fails one weekend when you are out of town. What kind of damage could it do? You see when you shop price you get just what you pay for. Lastly we spent time and money to get an opportunity to serve your needs. At no cost to you we showed up and gave you our time and attention in an effort to help solve your problems. I am not at all disappointed at this however I will take issue with the fact that you arbitrarily accused me raising my prices because of being in an affluent part of town . Nothing could be further from the truth. You sir have chosen to align yourself with one handful of people who could not digest there emotions and give an objective report. . If you happen to see her would you tell her I forgive her as I do you. and the next time some one comes to your house at their own expense you would do well to return some degree of kindness and objectivity rather than take offense at their generosity and seek to trash there reputation. By the way welcome to Angies List. We sincerely hope that in giving this response we can "rebuke a wise man and he will yet be wiser. "Thank you and all others for reading.

Chris came out one evening to look at our list and provided a verbal estimate for each component. We scheduled the work that night with one day for the smaller jobs and a week for the larger job. For both jobs, Chris checked in a few days before to confirm that we were still on schedule. Chris breezed through the smaller jobs and I wish I had been organized to ask him to do some other things. But now we know that he can pretty much do anything. He also noticed that our front glass door was sticking badly and replaces the screws on the spot for no charge and now it works much better. The larger job involved removing a wall of mirrors and layers of wallpaper, replastering and painting. Chris' prep and paint crew were excellent and they really paid attention to detail and did not hurry things just to get done. Also, during the course of emptying out the room, we found some other things that needed to be done like moving an electrical outlet and painting a bookshelf and Chris readily added that to the scope of work. The final product looks great and we will definitely turn to Chris for the next one.
Description of Work: We asked Chris to do a number of small jobs (fix shower door, install a new attic fan, etc.) and then a larger job of redoing one bedroom.

Weather was a major factor & a problem. This job was scheduled in the late fall. As you can imagine, painting and wood repair does not go well with a Pittsburgh winter. However, Chris and his crew kept me informed as to when work could be done and were always punctual and professional. The storefront was being rehabbed for a new tenant so cost was a factor. Chris kept my cost down by fitting the work into breaks in the weather and other jobs which was fine by me and worked out very well. The work was excellant and done in a timely manner considering the winter complications.
Description of Work: I had an 80 year old store front that had suffered the abuse of many years of poor tenants. Wood soffit and facia was in bad shape & a mix of old signage had to be removed. A sill on a large store window required replacement & the storefront required painting. Two doors required replacement, one of which had to be custom fitted.

After I called, he came to the house, looked over the work to be done, gave me an cost estimate, and scheduled the work. Less than a week later he and another worker came to do the work. He was professional knowledgeable, and and timely. I reached him on my first phone call, and he came at the time scheduled to do the work with the equipment he needed.
Description of Work: He hung a traverse drapery rod, fixed a door bell, attached sliders under 5 kitchen chairs and re-glued the chairs, cleaned out a bathroom sink drain, tightened 3 wall hung commodes, and set up a dvd/vcr recorder/player for my tv.
