The contractor I hired to tile the kitchen, informed me that it was still not leveled and could not be tiled. When I called Chris to tell him the floor was not leveled, he said well you have an old house, I did the best I could, and you seemed happy when I left, and said he would not come back. He was very rude to me and the tile contractor. I paid him &715.45 and he did not fix the problem and is not willing to.
Description of Work: I hired him to level a section of the kitchen floor, so it would get tiled.

Response from Chris Jackson's Contracting
Not so dear customer and concerned readers Please give ear as I fill in the manifold missing details and get my company out of jeopardy. We were contacted in early Dec. concerning a "flooring contractor" who would not lay tile due to an alleged rotten sub floor. I immediately became concerned and thought it odd that a flooring contractor was not willing to replace an existing sub floor, which would not only be full service to the customer, but would add a greater profit, something rare these days. Upon my arrival for an estimate I found the floor in question to be solid and level, yet having the appearance of someone gluing vinyl tile over a wind rippled pond. Customer proceeded to tell me of a portion of the floor which had already been repaired during a previous cabinet replacement and that only an adjacent segment approx. 6'x6', was left to repair. When asked why the "tile guy" would not do it, I was given an ambiguous answer regarding him being a sub contractor and not part of the contractual agreement? I again though it odd and was presented with a choice. We bow out of the project or you bid it high in hopes that the customer will not call back. I chose rather to serve the customer to the best of my ability. That is what we are about. An according to my record on Angie's list over 375 customers agree. I also offered to install the customers new vanity and sink for the the holiday/blue light special of $99.95 and even left off the high pressure sales phrase "if you act now"! I left a verbal estimate, as is my style, with a written outline of the project on my yellow tablet. I was called the next week and given the green light to proceed. We scheduled for Dec. 22nd. It was to be the last Job of the year but not the least. I showed up as scheduled on that fateful day with the usual degree of anticipation and after the paper work, which did not designate any leveling issues, went at it. The customer however, trumped me with a senior discount and them tried to muscle me into an additional 10% on the ten dollar coupon in the monthly news letter. She said an Angies list rep. said it was o.k. After some haggling I explained that we were not Giant Eagle, we don't stack coupons, nor do we suppose people are seniors for obvious reasons. I also asked what the other guy would charge and was told ,"about a thousand dollars'. Glad to be saving the customer a bushel of cash I also offered to repair the front screen door free of charge. This was about a forty dollar repair as the wind had ripped off the closing bracket out of the jamb repeatedly. The addition of a safety spring completed the wanting task, with the promise of no repeats. The three of us tore away at the "rotten floor" only to discover that it was not rotten as we were told. It was rather poorly skim coated with floor leveler. We arrived at this conclusion after having pryed and cut the floor to bits therefore we were forced to proceed with the plan. What we did find was a 3/8" underlayment with a small area of dry rot form years gone by. Because it was under a 3/4" of plywood it was not structural and irrelevant to the alleged original problem. We tried of course to explain this to the customer. who kept a watchful eye over us ,as if we were criminals. Our attempts fell upon deaf ears. Customer insisted that we fix the uncontracted, unforeseen extra work, which required extra material and extra effort, with out offering extra compensation. She insisted she was entitled to it. In the spirit of the Christmas season we obliged. My two men completed the the process and then I returned for an inspection at the end of the day. Customer was generally happy but expressed some concern of an uneven abutment in one area. I agreed to her assessment, and said I would deal with it in the morning when I return for the vanity. I rec. a deposit and retired for the evening. When I arrived on Friday I started in on the vanity assuming it was a 1.5 hour Job. The last guy glued the faucet and pop up assembly to the sink and thus the battle was intensified. After dogged determination, perhaps a few muffled curses, followed by fervent prayer, I prevailed. Customer gave the nod of approval, the area in question was troweled with floor leveler and checked with a level just to make sure. We had a small chat and I bagged some trash. I was then thanked and given final payment. I always ask,"have we fulfilled our obligation"? If the answer is yes and we are paid, one would conclude the obvious...The customer is satisfied. We exchanged holiday greetings and I drove off as it were into the sunset. We can only assume that when we do all we are asked and more, are thanked and paid, that the customer is pleased. I think this is reasonable to conclude. Two weeks of silence followed until Jan. 4th. At this point the "tile guy" showed up for the second time and once again moved the goal post. It was at this point my suspicion was proved. After talking with him on the phone I realized he was cheating the customer and putting 1/4" hardie backer board on my 3/4" plywood. The industry standard is a minim of 11/4 inches of structurally supportive wood before laying any tile. I suppose he was a sub contractor form big blue or big orange and therefore his job was so boned, down that he needed an ideal situation or he would loose money on the project. The fact that he was taking advantage of a senior citizen and costing her more money than was necessary should have exempted him from the job and all others. The shame of it is that the customer could not discern this and was deceived into thinking that every thing he said needed to be done. The lesson that should have been learned here is to go to a full service provider and contract with them to do the whole job from start to finish. Instead the customer reacted and spitefully wrote this hurtful report, without thinking it through to its logical conclusion. We sincerely regret that we were mired in this bizarre comedy of errors. We will offer the customer a refund of her Angies list membership dues in exchange for her access to the list of service providers. We don't want any of our other fellow contractors subject to her emotionally charged ill intentioned invective. Sincerely, Christopher J Jackson-Owner
I should have actually called him today. I found him on Angie's List. He is a contractor and he basically does everything. He did a good job. The only thing that he has left is that he has to put in the sealant around, as it was raining the day that he did it. When you put in a new gutter you have to put the sealant around. The dishwasher work was more of electrical and not plumbing. I looked him up on Angie's List. The whole reason that I joined Angie's List was to get this project done. He has not finished putting in the sealant thing.
Description of Work: I used the services of Chris Jackson's Contracting on the 20th of December 2011. He did my gutters. He brought the gutter pieces, fixed the falling gutter, faucet and fascia. He replaced a piece of wood and replaced the downspout. He re-wired and installed a lighting fixture. He worked on the dishwasher too.

The door he painted leads into the game room. We had bought it and never painted it. He was good. I will call him again if I have something. The price was pretty fair plus he had a $10.00 off coupon from Angie's List. The quality of the work performed was good. We were pleased. His punctuality and responsiveness were great.
Description of Work: Chris Jackson's Contracting did some honey-do things that I needed done. He took care of some ceiling tile that was falling down in our basement which is our game room. He also painted a steel door for us.

Thanks member, It is always a pleasure doing business with your family. Enough money spent on the house this year. Time to go on a cruise and enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of...
He made an appointment, showed up on time, walked through the jobs with me, and we discussed why he thought what I was asking for was not really the right way to accomplish my goals. In the end, he decided the job was too involved for his relatively small crew, and passed on it. I appreciated how he was up front with me about why he thought what I was asking for wouldn't turn out well, and decided to just pass on the job rather than give me a high estimate and see if he could make it work. I would happily call him again for another job.
Description of Work: Had Chris come out for an estimate for a fairly large job that involved replacing out large amounts of lead-painted trim and replacing several interior doors.

Description of Work: We are currently in the process of hiring Chris and his team to remodel our master bath. He is punctual, professional, and easy to talk to. I was impressed by his ability to figure out what we want to do in our bathroom without really having much to go on except for my verbal description and looking at the fixtures/tiles, etc. we have already purchased. I am excited to start this project with Chris.

The general worker was very friendly. My son kicked his soccer ball and kind of knocked over the stain that he was working with and he wasn’t very happy about it because it got on his work pants but we reimbursed the money for him. He wasn’t happy with that but other than that he did a good job.

Dear Member As I remember it, when we left you were pleased and commented positively on our work. I could have ordered a designer screen but I bet the price would not have been agreeable. Fare thee well!

Work started on August 11th, and they showed up exactly when they said they would (9 am). Chris came and made sure everyone was on the same page, and then work commenced. Although we wished that Chris had told us that he was not going to be on site to manage the project, his crew was wonderful. Chris also came by periodically to check in on progress, so it ended up not mattering. The crew showed up every morning at 8:30 and were done around 5. Every day, we saw progress, and we liked that they swept and mopped the floors, and put their equipment tidily away every evening. Quality of work is (as far as we can tell) excellent. We were very happy with the work Chris and his crew did, and would recommend him highly to anyone. We would also be happy to work with them again.
Description of Work: Took down old acoustic tiled ceiling in kitchen, hallway, and breakfast nook, replaced with drywall. Also wired and put in recessed lighting, and replaced light fixture in kitchen. Cabinets in kitchen were sanded and repainted. Walls in hallway, kitchen, and breakfast nook had body work done to even out uneven spots, and then repainted. Installed new ceiling fan in kitchen nook.

Chris and his team do excellent work. Our estimate was fast, their work was great - we got exactly what we wanted and in a timeframe that we know was tough for his team to meet. (We wanted the work completed before moving into this house, and his team finished it with still several days to spare.) In spite of the quick turnaround, we are very pleased with the quality of work. We have called Chris before and will call him again as projects come up. His prices are very reasonable, his team does great work (we are particularly impressed with his carpenter!), and both Chris and the guys on his team are truly nice down-to-earth people.
Description of Work: Installed an interior wall, including a doorframe and door. Painted most of entire first floor (including newly installed wall), fixed plumbing under 4 sinks, installed railings along basement stairs, fixed a minor roof leak around window flashing; (There may have been more but this is the big stuff I can remember off the top of my head.)

Chris Jackson came to our house days after our contacting him to review the job and give us a bid. He was quite professional, knowledgeable and straightforward about the work. He also thought he could schedule the job fairly quickly. We had to purchase the fan/light and select paint colors and his guys would do the rest. Three men worked on the job starting on a Monday. They were completely finished by Wednesday afternoon despite having a harder-than-expected job installing the light due to double joists in the bathroom ceiling and some wiring complications. In the middle of the work, my wife saw a crack in a floor tile which may or may not have been there prior to the job. Tony, the team foreman, as soon as it was pointed out, immediately replaced (and sealed) that tile and another one he found that also was cracked with extra ones we had in our basement. We were very impressed with all the skills he and the rest of the team had. They were very flexible and cooperative - really easy to work with. The workers were all prompt, courteous and completely cleaned up before they left each evening. We are very happy with the paint job and the fan installation. Our overall experience with Chris Jackson's team was excellent and we would recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: Chris Jackson's team removed old wall paper and repainted our bathroom. They installed a new bathroom fan, ductwork and an outside vent. They had to put in electrical wiring for the fan, new light switches and a timer. They also regrouted the tub, replaced two cracked floor tiles and fixed two leaking faucets.

Chris managed the initial meeting and was punctual (we were late). He was also very detailed in his explanations and estimates; and was very personable. During the date of work, Chris' employee was over 30 minutes late; but once he arrived, he was very professional. The actual work took slightly longer than discussed, but we are happy with the quality. The pricing was a bit steeper than other estimates, but considering the quality of work, we found it to be fair.

I called to see if he could re-attach the J-channel that came off the corner of my siding in a storm. When we spoke, Chris asked that look around my house to see if there was anything else he could do to make the trip worthwhile. (Inventive sales technic!) My first response was no, but by the time he came for the measurement the next day, I had thought of something. The outside trim work around my garage doors was rotting from the bottom up. I was planning on replacing it next year, but figured, what the heck. After showing the siding issue to Chris, I took him around to the garage doors and said I thought it needed replaced. He looked at it and said it could be fixed with a serious plastic wood filler and then painted. I wasn't sure, but figured he knew what he was doing. His crew was available to do both project the next day and by the time I got home everything looked great! You would never know that part of the wood trim is not wood! What an improvement. Although nothing is cheap these days, I felt his price was pretty fair.

They arrived on time for the work. Chris had previously come to the house to check out the jobs and had given us an estimate of the cost. While doing so, he mentioned several other types of jobs that were typically needed in many houses (e.g. worn hoses on washing machine, cleaning refrigerator coils); this was useful information, but we did not need any of these jobs and Chris did not try to persuade us into any of them. While at their job before ours Chris called us to say when he thought they would finish it and when he estimated they would arrive at our house. All three jobs were performed efficiently and effectively. All three jobs were performed efficiently and effectively. Both workers were very courteous and professional. We would certainly hire Chris Jackson again to do any handyman jobs.

This was the second job I had Chris do, and I am somewhat disappointed. when he came to give me an estimate on painting an interior room, the first thing he noticed was a bad electrical plug, and put it on the estimate. After the painting was done, I noticed the plug had not been replaced. I called him, and the first thing he said was, "Was that on the estimate"? I am the customer and should have been given the benefit of the doubt until he went and got the estimate. (as it turns out, I was not given a copy; my error) He said he would send someone out that night. He did, however, because it was done after the painting, there is a hole above the plug and it is not flush with the wall. It should have been done prior to the painting. The painter did do an excellent job, but frankly, I feel Chris"s attitude needs an adjustment. I feel it is his responsibility to make sure the job is done right, and to make sure the customer is happy. I am not sure I will use him again.
