We requested a quaote. Chris answered promptly, came and looked at the job and provided a price that was fair. We elected to go with another firm through no fault of the contractor.

Chris Jackson did arrive as scheduled for both the estimate and date of work to be done. He also did return calls and update me each time after the multiple return visits that were made. The replacement of the pull chain switch in the ceiling fan, toilet wax ring replacement and installation of AC's went well. The removal of two rusted fence poles and installation of two new poles went well except the wires of the old poles were cut and left in the fence with the sharp edges exposed - when I told the contractor they did return and remove these. The repairs of the gutter on the patio and the leak in the corner of the roof gutter were not fixed. After several (3 or 4) return visits I was updated each time that they think they now found the problem each time and the repairs were complete. Quite the opposite, the leaking roof gutter was originally only in the corner and now it is worse with a line of leaking water. During the final phone call with Chris he stated that they had done all they could on checking the roof gutter leak and he could return the $99.95 that is the normal gutter repair charge and recommended two roofers I could call. Also since the back patio gutter was still leaking his workers were now condemning the guards on the back patio and for an additional charge they could come back and remove them. When I said ok send me the check, he then said he really couldn't return the money --- they had come back several times to try to repair the leak. It is very disappointing that I agreed and paid for repair work to be performed, and instead the leak Is now worse and creating an additional problem of a line of water dripping and freezing in the driveway and I will have the additional expense of hiring another contractor.
Description of Work: Replace two cyclone fence poles, replace ceiling fan light chain, replace toilet wax ring and level, install two window air conditioners check leaking of patio gutter (18'), close opening around front porch downspout and check repair leak on back corner of roof gutter.

Response from Chris Jackson's Contracting
Dear Member and concerned readers, King Solomon wrote,"Rebuke a wise man and he will yet be wiser". I will begin this response with the assumption that you are a wise person, after all, you did join Angie's list and choose a highly rated company with over four hundred stellar reports, which highlight faithful service since 2004, and by my reproof you will consider it, take it to heart and be the wiser. You live in a house that is approx. 100 years old. The gutters are the original and though they are not falling off the house as we sometimes have witnessed, they are nearing the end of their useful lives. Regular maintenance can prolong their life. But most people only address gutters when they become a problem. This type of gutter needs periodic repainting with a product called tinners red. Years ago it was made with lead and other toxic ingredients which protected them and provided for an appealing appearance. Your coatings have long since been gone, maintenance has been wanting and the cancer of rust has set deep within the tin. We both entered into this job with high hopes it was a minor repair and thus only charged you fifty dollars. The other ninety nine was for the cleaning of the gutters on the entire house. One would think, having driven from White oak to Squirrel hill four times, paid roofers to perform repairs each time, at no additional cost, that maybe you would see we gave it our all, even at our loss. A repair for which I spent about 150.00 and charged you only 50.00 and did so without a hassle. We helped you conclude that the problem, which we both assumed was minor, was not. In earnest and at our cost we served you to the best of our abilities and could only conclude that the problem is more complex than we thought. You then were not only unthankful that we went above and beyond the call of duty, but added insult by asking for money in return as if we sabotaged your gutters in an effort to make your life more miserable than it appears. Then you add injury by writing this negative report in an obvious effort to vilify us as some sinister two tongued thieves. Even though we tried explained to you that to solve the riddle of the leaking gutter we need to remove the soffit and fascia to get a more complete look at it. I fear this information went in one ear and out the proverbial other. I offered two roofers who would be glad to continue the process which would be at far greater expense. So we even tried to help continue the process with third party assistance but you still could not see that we were bowing out as gracefully as possible and recommending someone with a fresh perspective. The solution will probably be a relining of the entire area of gutters. This is a service that I do not offer. Therefore we suggested a few other companies we have seen as reputable. We ask you to respectfully withdraw your damming comments and realize that we did our best to serve you, and as Rodney Dangerfield said "we didn't get any respect" Despite all this we bless you and say Merry Christmas, Fare thee well!

We were very well pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism and care shown throughout. We definitely will use them again and recommend them to friends for this kind of job. Chris came out one evening, a day or two after we had called him, to see what needed to be done and to give us an estimate. We agreed, set a date, and everything went like clockwork after that. He was able to put a crew of six good workers on the job, so it took only two days instead of the week-long disruption that we had anticipated. I wouldn't say the price was a bargain, but we think it was quite fair for the amount and quality of the work that they did. (We were prepared to completely replace both ceilings. Chris was the one who suggested the less-costly alternative of stabilizing the remaining parts with many big-head screws. After seeing how that was done, we have no further concerns about those two ceilings.) The workmen were all very polite and considerate. They took great care not to damage any of our possessions and they cleaned up well after the job was done. Two of the men came back on the Friday after Thanksgiving (what would normally have been a day off for them) to wrap up some final painting, so that we could start getting things back to normal that weekend instead of waiting until Monday.
Description of Work: The plaster and sheetrock on the living-room ceiling in our 80-year-old house collapsed in dramatic and dangerous fashion. Chris Jackson and his crew repaired the missing part and stabilized the remaining parts with a large number of screws with very big heads, screwed firmly into the beams above. We were worried that our bedroom ceiling would be next to fall, so they stabilized that as well. They then plastered over the fasteners and seams and repainted both ceilings. They also repaired and re-painted a broken chunk on our mantle, broken off during the cave-in. They installed a new vanity/sink in one bathroom, made some cosmetic repairs in our powder room, and cleaned our gutters -- that was heroic, since it was a very cold and nasty day.

EXCELLENT Job!! I was extremely satisfied with the workmanship and the professionalism of this gentleman. He took the time to stop by on his way home from another job to review my problem. After he made his assessment, he explained in detail the method in which he corrected the problem with the wiring and light fixture. He also provided an explanation for the future usage and care of the light fixture. I will definitely have him back again for any additional work. Thanks Angie, I was skeptical at first, but I did my homework and read several other reviews then choose Chris Jackson Contracting and he was the ? right? choice for me.

Chris was the only one of 6 Handymen on Angies list that answered right away, the other guys did not even call back and i had a list of "handyman" things to be done (wall repair, pass-through kitchen window, new gas line routing, countertop replacement, fireplace tile, and 12 window re-sealing). He came over around 7pm and walked throughout the house with me and gave estimates for everything. His estimates were very reasonable and he gave me great advice. I decided to do the wall and fireplace first and he was able to come out less than a week later and do this job. All I had to do was pick out the tile I wanted for the fireplace and bring it to the house. I was weary about him being able to just patch the drywall without replacing it since the glue adhesive had done a number on the drywall. He had 2 guys come out (Tony and Nick). I was home prepping istallation of my wood floors so we were around each other for most of the day. The guys were very personable and easy to get along with, not to mention hard working. I had no problem leaving them at the house when i needed to go to the store or to a meeting. They had almost all of the wall and fireplace done in the first day (9-5pm) and then needed to come back for a final sand/coat on the wall and grouting of the tile. The fireplace turned out perfect and the wall was almost perfect. All the stone tiles were aligned and the cuts were precise. The wall looked promising and all the holes were filled and sanded well. The corner joints were smooth and ready for painting. I say the wall was "almost" perfect because you can still see the patching circles where they worked over the adhesive, BUT this is only when you are examining the wall during the daylight hours. The wall overtop the fireplace is a little worse, but we will be putting a painting or mirror overtop anyway. More than likely the only way this may have been remedied would be with a thin skim coat overtop the entire wall surface. He followed up with me and asked me to write a review, i told him after we painted it I would. He and his crew told me if there is anything not perfect let them know and they will fix it. This job turned out essentially perfect, so i am very happy that I chose them and would like to use his services in the future.

We were very pleased from begining to end and when it didnt look like the painting would be done before our cloth awnings would be installed, he came out on a Saturday to complete the job. I first contacted Chris Jackson's Contracting via "Angie's Messaging". Chris replied promptly. I received a call the next day. We scheduled an estimate shortly after. Chris arrived promptly and help me to prioritize my "To do list". He provided a reasonable estimate and we scheduled a date for repairs. Chris and his crew arrived promptly on the scheduled work date. They got to work quickly. All work was completed on the list in four hours or less. Crown molding was installed flawlessly. The garage door functions perfectly! Roof was an eyesore now it blends nicely! The base cove was an add on job that I could not complete. He agreed to do it even though he was not scheduled to for a reasonable price. I am very satisfied with all of the work done. I cant wait to have him install my dishwasher, counter, fix a kitchen sink installed improperly and a Kitchen ventilation fan very soon. Chris and his Crew are Awesome! I am so happy I decided to follow the previous reviews! Now some of my daily stressors are gone. I would highly recommend Chris Jackson's Contracting for all those minor headaches that the Large companies would not do.

Mr. Jackson and an associate arrived at 1:30 PM. I had purchased a number of items to be installed and placed them where they belonged. They set to work at once and completed 6 projects that I needed completed in 2 hours. They cleaned up after their work and provided me with the paperwork from the items that I had purchased so that I could keep records. Everything was completed to my satisfaction and I would not hesitate to call Mr. Jackson again in the future when I find projects that need completed. My only recommendation for the future would be to set a schedule for the day in question ahead of time so that I can schedule other necessary appointments for before or after.

I feel badly about canceling an estimate day of, however I am not sure I want to work with a contractor who feels it appropriate to lecture me.
Description of Work: I scheduled an estimate over the phone for the following week but unfortunately forgot about it. Within that time we had some other issues that happened which put this project on hold. When Chris called to confirm the appointment I told him that unfortunately I had to cancel. He then very unprofessionally lectured me that I need to call in advance and cancel because he had so many people waiting for estimates.

Mr. Jackson contacted me within 24 hours of my initial voice mail to him. His statement on the phone was that he could complete the work by my Sept 27 deadline, but by the time he was able to provide an estimate (about a week after the phone call), he changed that to Oct 1st. I was able to adjust my schedule for the few days difference, so no big deal. He and his crew did excellent work and cleaned all site locations after completion. Their price seemed a little high initially, but if his price were smaller, he probably would have phoned me several times about unexpected costs such as on the porch roof/gutter or the GFCI. As it was, he did excellent work, outperformed my expectations, and did not phone me once about a problem or cost overrun.
Description of Work: repaired banister spindle, repaired non-working GFCI outlet that actually was a problem with an associated outlet up the line, repaired a sagging porch roof with a new 4x4 support and straightened and cleaned out the porch gutter, repaired plaster cracks and matched the paint perfectly

Chris showed up on time, with his assistant, Tony, and Tony's son, Nick. While Chris went over the list of things to be done with me, Tony and Nick got to work on the painting. Chris stayed for a couple of hours, reattaching the kitchen cabinet door (and checking all the other cabinet doors to be sure they were okay), fixing the light fixture at the desk in the kitchen, attaching the carbon monoxide detectors, etc. He eventually left to work on another job site, but Tony and Nick stayed at our house until around four or five that afternoon. I can't say enough about all three of these guys. They were all polite and friendly and very willing to answer any questions my wife and I had. They're all perfectionists, and they cleaned up after themselves, even doing things I really didn't expect of them. For instance, I took two hoses off hooks in our garage for Tony and Nick to use, and I discovered that when they were finished with the hoses, they had not only drained the water out of them, but they also coiled them and put them back on the hooks in the garage. Also, Tony took the time to mix several colors of grout to perfectly match the grout around the ceramic tiles he replaced in our kitchen. I would absolutely hire Chris again. In fact, my wife and I have already started making the list for his next visit.
Description of Work: painted front door and all front porch railings, along with doors to garage and storage room; reattached loose kitchen cabinet door; repaired desk light in kitchen; attached two carbon monoxide detectors to ceilings in game room and on second floor; put a door edge guard on bottom of front door; replaced several ceramic floor tiles in kitchen; cleaned some marks on concrete porch and steps

Dear member, being a neighbor and a widow, we did the best we could price wise, concidering all the work and the repairs that were needed. It has been a long while since work has been done. Perhaps many decades. We are professionals and have been in the business for many years. Our men are well skilled and do not work for minimum wage. The cost of doing business rises every year. There seems to always be more Govt. regulation and oversight, promising the world to the customer and many fees and restrictions on the business. Of course we cannot forget Angie's palm either. Every year she digs deeper into our pockets. I will say however that like us, she delivers to product. We regret that we could not accommodate you and feel as though you were unfair in your assessment of our sincerity and service of a free estimate. If you are exclusively looking for price and not the related service and quality, may we suggest the Penny Saver or the Green Sheet. God Speed to you and yours Sincerely, Chris Jackson and company

He was very pleasant, affable, and congenial. He returned phone calls promptly and arrived on time with no issue. He brought two other workers with him, both of which were equally congenial. The constructive apllications were fine, as was the chandelier hanging. When it came to picture hanging, they were not quite up to my expectations. Ultimately, I felt that the price was much higher than I had anticpated. I would use him again in the future for large-scale constructive work, but not for fine-tuned decor.
Description of Work: I had just moved into a new apartment and contracted them to provide some practical storage solutions.

Come on [member name removed] you could have done better than this. How about mentioning the time we spent when we returned to do a few extras and it became a half day of service with no extra charges? Never the less thank you for your response. We feel honored that you hired us to help make your house a home.

I had been trying to get someone to do this job, who was very unresponsive to my phone calls. He had come to give me an estimate, but then was very difficult to communicate with. I called Chris Jackson who actually came out the same day to give me an estimate. Even though his estimate was higher, I decided to go with him, because he also could get me in that same week. He came when he said he would come, and did the work. There were some things I wasn't as happy about, particularly the way the mirror was installed. It is crooked, and although he came back to fix it, it still doesn't fit into the hole properly. It isn't a big deal, as it is hard to see it unless you look, but nevertheless, I thought he should have figured out a way to get it in properly. The sink is installed well, but after he left, I saw that he left this old corroded ring on the new plastic pipe he put in, which looks kind of bad. Again you have to look to see it. His initial estimate including re grouting the bathtub area. I found that I was able to clean the grout, so that it was unnecessary. He only dropped the price $40.00, and in retrospect, I think he should have dropped it more. But, I have nothing to compare that too, so I can't say for sure that it was unfair. Chris is a nice man and was easy to work with. He had one helper who did the re-caulking.
Description of Work: replaced a bathroom free standing sink with a pedestal sink. Replaced a medicine cabinet mirror. installed a towel rack (removed existing rack) and re calked around bathtub.

The whole process with Chris was smooth and easy. I found the reviews on Angie's List and made a call. We connected quickly and set up a date in April for him to come and look at the work. He came out in early April and was able to give us a quote and a date for the work on the spot, which was perfect for planning. We touched base a few days before the work started and then he and his team showed up on time and got started working right away. The majority of the work was completed in the first day, and then the guys doing the painting continued for a second and part of a third day. They were very polite, diligent in caring for our house when coming through and asked questions if they needed clarification regarding the work being completed. I would definitely hire Chris and team again for projects if we stayed in Pittsburgh - thorough, polite, and reasonably priced.
Description of Work: We hired Chris and his team to do several projects around the house - install a support beam, put in quarter round, install access door for attic, paint the front porch, paint trim around back windows - in preparation to put our house on the market to sell.
