Contacted Chris Jackson approximately 8:00PM, Thursday, August 21, 2014. I explained I was experiencing a water leak within cabinet area of bathroom sink beneath the left-side handle over which is located the water supply line. I mentioned the water supply line was damp. He said he could probably accommodate me to assess the situation Friday, after a noon telephone call to confirm his time of arrival. On Friday, August 22 at 8:00AM, I phoned him to advise his using another telephone number since I planned to depart my house for a couple to hours. Instead, he informed he had a cancellation and could send his contractors over shortly this same morning. The contractors arrived approximately 9:00AM and after a brief review of the situation and consultation by phone with Mr. Jackson, determined the water supply lines needed to be replaced and offered a 10% senior citizen's fee of $59.95 to which I agreed. After replacement of water supply lines and testing and re-testing, the leak persisted. Suspicion occurred that an entire faucet replacement might be the remedy, but after disassembling of the left-side handle, a less drastic solution was considered. An "O" ring, which was not in stock on the contractor's truck, was to be purchased. After a visit to Waterfront's Lowe's, the men returned in 1/2 hour's time and fitted that part to the handle--but not before the removal of hard-water residue at site of stem and cartridge unit. After testing and re-testing, these results seemed to alleviate the problem. The two men were good enough to make an additional screw tightening on an adjacent fixture as well. They were paid the amount to which I had agreed and they left the residence. Upon my use of same sink, I recognized, after running of water, the leak persisted. I immediately phoned Mr. Jackson who promised to arrive at my residence ASAP. Mr. Jackson arrived with 1/2 hour and reviewed the effort, removed the left faucet handle cartridge/stem area to discover any faults therein; none were discovered but placed another "O" ring to that area. The leak persisted. His subsequent evaluation proved to be the remedy--hard-water buildup in area of faucet spout created pressure which eventuated in leakage! It was a time-consuming experience and there was no additional fee charged. Sincerely,, Donna M. Horvat

I had called a few companies to fix my shower wall, which had water damage and was bowing out. I got crazy expensive estimates, and a few people refused to even do what I wanted done. they said they had to rip all the walls out in order to fix it. I thought that was absurd. Then I called Chris, he came out and gave us an estimate, it was much lower than the others, and he said that they could do what I wanted, he was just worried that I wouldn't like the end result, I think, because he wouldn't be able to match the tile colors. I didn't care what the tiles looked like, I was just afraid of the wall coming down. But I'm sure that I will be calling back when I have the money for them to come and do the rest. This is beautiful! He is is very friendly and courteous person. He scheduled the days they would come out, they came out Even after all the dust and everything that comes with ripping a wall and tile out, it looked like no one was even there! I have a new brown rug, and there wasn't a speck of anything on it. I was very impressed!! Tony (please correct me if I'm wrong, I am terrible with names!!) even did a few extra things, and didn't mind my 'excessive' talking. I will definitely hire Chris and his team again, and would tell anyone that. on and off of Angies list. I was reading through the other reviews, and someone said something about unprofessional? What exactly is professional to them? I had very friendly guys come out and do their job, did it well, cleaned up the mess, made sure everything was to my satisfaction, and called a day or two later to make sure everything was ok. Believe me, I've dealt with BIG name companies who couldn't give a sh** about their customers, BUT they wear uniforms and drive uniform trucks. maybe that's professionalism to them? but they're mostly idiots. just my opinion, I just wanted to get this out there, Thank you! :)

[member name removed]Thank you for your timely response. But just the other day when we finished you were not only happy but gave us a lot more than we asked for in the agreement? As each job is finished I always as the question," Have we fulfilled our obligation" if the answer is yes what more can we do? If there are any issues of low quality they certainly were not discussed and if they were, they they would have been taken care of. Sir it was sincerely a pleasure to work for you . This report however leaves us confused. Please if there is anything amiss don't hesitate to call and we will see to it.

I read customers comments and then take into account some issues can be very subjective as people take their personal issues more serious as an outsider may think it's not so bad, but I think it is so UNPROFESSIONAL the responses that this company has added to customers issues, clearly there is more than meets the eye. I would never use them based on the responses.

Dear [removed member name], we sincerely regret not being able to ply our trade on your behalf. It is and has been our pleasure to serve the Pittsburgh chapter of Angie's list since 2004. And our record over the last ten years proves it. In response to your "report" , we find it to be totally subjective and void of any facts concerning your needed work or our attention to it. In addition to spelling errors it exposes your woefully unthankful attitude. It never ceases to amaze me how few people there are, that appreciate the fact that we are willing to come to their houses, free of charge and at our expense of time, advertisement and fuel, to bid on there work. You then add insult to injury and write this spurious report without even having hired us to do the work. This is like judging a restaurant by reading the menu and not sampling the food. Gladly even Angie has a disclaimer on reports like this. Perhaps it was a blessing we did not work for you, as we could have gotten mired in your pigpen of ill will. My guess is that you will not like this report. Can't imagine why? I therefore suggest two responses. GET A LIFE! or join the first customer of this rank ilk, who painted her house pink and named herself "Bunny". Lastly we will offer you a return your Angie's list application fee in return for your access to the list and all it's rights and privileges, so that any other of our fellow service providers won't wast their time and attention to you or your issues. We are in the service industry and that makes us hired servants . Though servants, we will balk at any and all attempts of people like you to defame our record or character. We certainly don't mind a constructive criticism or two, but you have a chip on your shoulder and obviously a bone to pick with another person. I remember a placard on the wall in my grandmothers house which read, "keep your temper no one else want's it". Angie, I still love your list, affectionately, Chris Jackson

Chris promptly arrived to review the job 4/2/14 - contract estimate accepted.. pressure wash was done more than satisfactorily top rail replacement was not entire as expected - Chris said only an estimate and then replaced one of the 3 undone short boards. I was not happy with still huge space miters on old rail boards - deaf ears. I complained that I could see lap lines on the floor stain and he insisted there was 2 coats on the floor. 4/22 Looking from window, paint seems to be missing from floor "showing" unstained sides on the uneven a bit raised boards, larger spaces, between boards, darker shows. 4/23 I was behind steps and the bottom 2 steps have no paint on back - this cannot be missed. Definitely many small spots were missed, in addition to the floor board sides. It is obvious that the railing top differs from new nice smooth, to old frumpy small 2 boards. I had to bring attention "again" that the old large space rail miters - they were not even filled before staining. they came back and filled the miter gaps and restained. I final paid 4/25/14. 6/2/14 notified Chris of: Left miter corner of top rail is not flush/flat - new board to new board (not resolved) most alarming - 73" new board instead of needed 74 5/8" - does not line correctly over outside edge - 6/12/14 proper size replaced. 6/20/14 staining completed, due to new board - done I only know of the work done on my neglected deck. I had expected perfection based on working with contractors in past years. I went by the reviews - but, the reviews may have been on completely different circumstances. Uneven and missed spots were a surprise, for the cost. I was in a hurry and did not get more estimates - Lesson Learned. Chris did not personally do the work and I am sure he expected better - I was a small job.
Description of Work: deck restoration was requested - expected "entire" new top rail, replacement of 2 floorboards, pressure wash, stain on all parts, per manufacturers recommendation.

Dear [member name removed], statistics say we can please 97% of customers. Even after after four returns to make you happy, apparently you fall into the 3% category. Thank you for giving us a chance, but honestly we did not rebuild your deck, nor did we contract to do so. Even after complying with all your concerns you finally said you were happy. Apparently you lied. As you have in this report. You did not even say thanks even though we bent over backwards and stained both your decks at no additional charge. We sincerely hope you enjoy your decks this summer. Fair thee well

I thought he was totally unprofessional. He came here to see what I needed done. Which was some railroad tie walls needed repaired. My door bell needed replaced and also the rubber seal on the door needed replaced. I was also considering a lock on the outside of my door. This man came to my house dressed in sandals and shorts. Which seemed very unprofessional to me. It was muddy and wet out so he wasnt dressed properly. He just seemed like he didnt respect my property. He had brought his son, who was extremly careless. The first day he was supposed to come around 930am, but he called me and said he wouldn't be there until 11. THen he called again and said he didnt have the equipment for the railroad ties. I let him know I had some extra he could use. He finally came at 1230pm to my home. His son went to the back to get the railroad ties out and banged the neighbors fence several times. He also dropped the wood right onto my grass instead of the rock area. Then he went to get another board and walked right past me and banged right into my grill.I have a wooded area back behind my house. And the son took it upon himself to throw all the railroad ties back there. Now I will have to pay someone to move the wood to proper where I had asked him.So anyways the job went on, and the son was carrying tools back and forth and got mud all over my sidewalk and driveway. He also parked on my new driveway and got oil all over it when he had first came to see the job. He also cut wood all over my brand new mulch and left sawdust on the new mulch. He in no way shape or form did he clean anything up.He was ready to go to the front and work on my door. He asked for a tarp, but then ended up getting it himself. He had to at some point get inside my front door and he had taken his sandals off. So he was standing barefoot on my inside rug, then his son came in and got mud on the rug. He asked me if I had something to clean his fingerprints off the door, and I am not sure why he didnt have something for that himself. Well anyways, he got the door finished and asked me to try out the door. I couldn't open the door at all. He told me to spray Pam on the door! I told him no, that I would get some WD-40.After all of this he asked me if there was anything else that I needed done. I showed him some outside plumbing, caulking around my foundation. Then he had the wrong type of lock for my door. It was large, obtrusive and didnt match. Then he asked about the kitchen faucet that I needed fixed. I wish I wouldn't have let him in, but he came in my house barefooted. Well I am very particular about my carpets in my home and offered him booties to put on. He refused them and said he had washed his feet. While he was upstairs, I said I would get his check written out. Then we were upstairs looking at the faucet that was leaking. He right away said that I needed to get a whole new faucet without really looking at it. At this point I just wanted him out of my house. He made me so uncomfortable and was looking at my things in my home and commenting on them. In addition it was discovered several weeks ago, that this man caused damaged to an entire water system after he stepped on a PVC piping breaking it. He also did not show up in appropriate foot wear, he also did not make the home owner aware that he damaged the water system and broke the PVC pipe.
Description of Work: I hired him to do some odd jobs around my home.

Folks like this really ruin it for all of us don't they. They offer some of their supplies for which I gave her a discount, even though they were the wrong size. They tell you did a good job, you have a nice son. Then they have a meaningful discourse. In her case I spent more time listening to her ramble than I spent working because one should not be rude. Of course they offer you a cold drink and more work, and then schedule it on the spot, gladly pay you and invite you to there church. I really want to believe them when they tell me these things, don't you. Then a week later they call and cancel the work, and after this they publicly stab you in the back. Mam you are liar and a shameless, deceitful disgrace. It is people like you that give Angie's list a bad name. You can join a former customer who painted her house pink and changed her name to "bunny" .Tell her I said hi. I bet the both of you would get along just fine.

I thought that the quote was so out of line. It was ridiculous. I mean, it was three times what it should be. I talked to Chris Jackson and he gave me the quote. He should not have even done that to me. It was so horrible. I would not recommend them because of that. It would have been better if he went and said, "I do not want to do the job." It was terrible and it was just for a small painting job. He got back to me quickly to give the quote but how much it was was just absurd. The quote was handwritten and it was hard to read but he was punctual and he did what he said that he was going to do.

Dear concerned readers, It looks like another one of those people that mom warned us of has slipped through the gate. She apparently does not care for a quality job and has no regard for the inverse relationship between service and price. Perhaps after an experience from one of those penny saver guys, she will learn her lesson. It never ceases to amaze and frustrate us that when you offer someone something for for free, that cost us our time and money, they still complain. " Father forgive them for they know not what they do". When sweetness of low price wears off as will your low quality paint job, Give us a call and we will forgive you and give you the service and attention to detail that others are enjoying. Sincerely, Chris Jackson

Chris called me back promptly and was able to come out and do an assessment within a week. He was then able to do the work within another week. Since I had a small job a lot of the other companies didn't even call me back and those that did told me it would take 1-2 months to get around to doing the work. I will be calling Chris again in the future because he understands the importance of being professional, no matter the size of the job.

I was considering a no maintenance replacement fence but, decided to go with wood in order to keep the cost down. I was concerned that the wooden panels would not give me the quality and durability that I wanted. I trusted Chris to purchase the product and when his crew showed up with the fence all of my concerns vanished. The panels are very sturdy, the same on both sides with lattice at the top, which is exactly what I wanted. The existing posts were still solidly in the ground so I wanted to keep them. The guys pressure washed them and they look good even though they are 20 years old. The old panels overlapped the posts while the new panels were designed to butt up against the posts. This is where they had to get creative. I don't think any 2 of the posts where exactly the same distance apart. There were a couple places where they filled in with a narrow spacer and other places where they had to remove the end from a panel, cut the panel and replace the end border. They did such a good job there is no way to tell that it was even done. They had to dig and remove rock to insure that each panel was installed perfectly level. There is a slight down slope to the yard so the panels needed to step down. I am extremely happy with the final product and my neighbors love it too. They took the old fence away and cleaned up everything. The guys do very, very nice work. I found Chris to be professional and dependable. He returned my initial call that evening, scheduled a time to come over and actually showed up. Updated me when the product was ordered, called me the morning of the installation, and called me after the work was done to make sure that I was pleased. What more could I ask for? I would definitely use Chris's company again and I would recommend him, without reservation, to anyone.

I sent Chris a message through Angie's list which he replied to promptly but when I called later the same day, I interpreted the way he answered the phone when I identified myself as being irritated that I called. I asked him if it was a bad time and when I told him what I needed done to install a banister from the basement to the first floor and he found out I lived 7 miles from his location, he abruptly told me he doesn't do that part of town and just hung up.

It is a shame but a definite truth that mother said," there would be people like this " Though we consider Angie's members part of the family, we can't possibly serve all 25,000 of them and consequently have set boundaries for our services. The woman was simply offended that we don't serve her area and without digesting her emotions has lashed out at me with this vitriolic invective. It truly is a shame that grown adults act as children when they don't get what they want. Some day when I leave this ad campaign, it is people like this that I will gladly leave behind. Despite all this, we bless you and say fare thee well as we did when you were told, with kindness, that we do not serve your area. In this day and age of machines I like to answer the phone even when I am driving and at times connections are bad and calls are dropped and dare I mention that old guy with the hat on? It is possible that even though I courteously, as always, disconnect with prospective customers, some times and often lately, calls are dropped. Its not a perfect cell network, or a perfect world. If you think you have been hung up on please call back as I don't treat people with such disrespect as others do, my grandmother taught me better. Angie, despite customers like this, I still, like our favorite fast food chain, am loving it! That is your list.

While repairing damage from frozen pipes, I decided that I would hire Chris Jackson Construction to repair a shower that I couldn't use. The project also involved installing a bathroom exhaust and repairing the dormer. Chris and crew was punctual and began the project on time. They were very professional explaining every job they completed. While installing the exhaust, the electrician found an ongoing issue with the lights in the attic. After consulting with Chris, the lights was repaired and the cost was very reasonable. I purchased some pricey glass tile and was very anxious about the installation. So much so that I almost made a huge mistake and was going to hire someone else to install the tile. Despite my anxiety, Chris and crew stuck with me took their time and did a stellar job. Everything turned out beautifully and I appreciated all that was done.
Description of Work: They installed a bathroom exhaust and vent, installed glass tile to the walls of the bathtub and replaced the shower fixtures, painted the bathroom, removed and replaced rotted siding from a dormer. They painted the dormer. As a bonus they repaired the lighting in my attic.

It was great. We have used him a couple of times and we are very satisfied with his service. We would recommend him; in fact, we have recommended him to friends. We were pleased with the price. We thought it was fair and he was also flexible with what we wanted. We changed our minds at the last minute and he was very accommodating and did it. It was a fair price in both jobs. It was actually a really good price. The only problem with Chris Jackson was that he came over and did a consult on the first job we wanted to do and he worked out an estimate. It is a little hard to figure exactly what his estimates because he doesn’t do anything electronically, he writes everything down on a piece of paper and it is up to you to interpret his handwriting or write it down by yourself. That will be a suggestion for him to work on. He agreed to come on a certain day then I tried to get back to him that day, he didn’t respond and it turned out that his father had died. He was out of contact for a year I was wondering what was going, we just didn’t hear from him for a year. When he got in touch with us, he was very apologetic and he explained what had happened. He gave us a little discount on the total bill on our trouble.
Description of Work: He is our general contractor. He installed a new back door. He installed a security light on the back of our house. He put in a handrail on the exterior stairs leading from the house to the yard.

Dear [Member name removed], I am going over the years reports and realized that I had not yet responded. Thanks for taking time to write with such clarity, detail and even constructive comments on my penmanship. Mom did not send me to the Catholic school like my older brothers. We sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to future projects. Buy the way I must add a correction, I was out of touch for a week not a year. Fare thee well and merry Christmas!

The toilet paper holder had to be replaced because it was too far away from the toilet for most people to reach especially the 3 year old whose bathroom it was installed in. He installed a bi-fold door and placed the handle on the wrong door. It had to be repaired and moved. Before he came we had discussed changing the door handles for the bedrooms and bathroom doors. He added a charge to that and then walked out because it was 5pm with none of the plates placed and had no intension of returning to finish the doors until I complained. To say the least I felt cheated and when I told him I felt cheated he went through. the roof as if I had swore at him. after clear thinking $1000 was way too high for 3 hours work. After some angry words he did come back and finish the door handles.. I did not submit a review because frankly I was afraid of him.
Description of Work: Installed toilet paper holders, faucet handles, towel racks , odds and ends trim, and door handles, About 3-4 hours work, all supplies were supplied. Sealed the bathtub and a large window in the kitchen.

It went very well. Chris responded promptly to the message I left. He scheduled a visit to scope and estimate the job; the scheduled date/time was soon, and he came as promised. He estimated the job; the estimate was satisfactory so a date to do the work was scheduled. The day before the planned work day Chris called to verify that everything was "go" as planned. Chris and one helper came as scheduled, and did the job. The work was done neatly and well; they cleaned up when they were done. The handrails work as planned, but a few days after they had been installed it was clear that they needed to be sanded, to reduce the wood grain raised by the stain. This took a reminder call. A second visit was scheduled for 3 days later. Chris came as promised, rubbed the handrails smooth with steel wool, and applied a finish coat of varnish. There was no additional charge for this.
Description of Work: Chris and a helper installed handrails on the 2-part stairway leading from our first floor to our second floor.

I think I have covered all of the details above. I would and have recommended Chris to a friend. He was not available to change her water tank because he was on another job that day. He gave her the name of another contractor. What a Guy!!
Description of Work: Chris replaced a hot water tank for me. He brought the tank and I asked him to bring a brass flush valve to replace the one that now comes with a plastiac valve. He and his employees are very conscientious and polite. They had replaced the iron waste pipe located in the basement toilet a year or so before.

We have used Mr. Jackson now four times (I think) on a prior house and our current house, and I have been remiss in reviewing his work. While I'll comment on the last job, my review is flavored in my appreciation of the work on all four. He provided excellent service to fix/repair/replace items in a renovation list several years ago prior to us moving into this current house. Soon after move in he provided emergency service on a leaking bathtub (leaking into our kitchen). The current house is a late 60s house that we are now just updating, and I appreciate that Mr. Jackson is learning about the bones of the house as much as I am. We have been more than pleased in the work of Mr. Jackson, and refer our friends and associates to him. Simply put, he provides excellent work at an outstanding price with a honest, professional approach. What impresses me more than anything is his fair assessments of the work to be done. He advises when to fix, and when to not fix, and comments when the price may be prohibitive. He seems to be fair in his assessments of jobs that he would suggest I ask other professionals to assess and complete. He does not overestimate his ability to accomplish the work he is presented with. For the latest job, we asked him to modestly update our kitchen, bathroom, and den. For the kitchen, we asked him to install new sink faucets, paint the walls, and complete some minor under-cabinet light repairs. For the the bathroom, we asked him to install new faucets to the two sinks, paint, afix new bath hardware, and assess a leaky toilet. For the den, we asked him to paint the trim and the ceiling. In all these areas, it was a general cosmetic upgrade. As usual, prior to working on the items (a "honey do list"), he came out to our house for the estimate. We walked through the items and tasks, and in a few days received a written estimate via email. In the past, he had jotted notes, and provided an estimate for the work at the time of the walk through (handwritten one time on a scrap piece of paper). He is very astute about prioritizing work and indicating different solutions than I had anticipated. His prices for labor were very reasonable and quite competitive. He does not itemize every task, but provided a room by room estimate of the work to be performed. We scheduled the work to be performed. During the latest job, Mr. Jackson had 3 helpers for 3 full days of work. Two seemed to be hired help or subcontracted painters (Mr. Jackson reported to me that painting was not among his personally preferred task) and the third was a general helper. Everyone was extremely attentive to cleanliness and pleasant to be around. They seemed to enjoy their work and during the work I was pleased to overhear them discussing different painting techniques and approaches to handling the work. Mr. Jackson, in particular, was very professional and thoughtful. He took pride in his work and seemed to relish in accomplishing "difficult" problems. In particular, our new Moen faucets were difficult to install into our vanities, but he worked hard to make it "right". He purchased the paint for the jobs and I purchased all the appliances. A few weeks removed from the work, I and my family are extremely pleased regarding his work. We have no reservations on having Mr. Jackson work on our house and look forward to him working on Phase II (outdoor work) later this spring. His estimates on the work are fair, and I know I will be getting great service with a smile and gentle banter. I am surprised about the negative review below. This review is the antithesis of my view of Mr. Jackson and his professionalism. In my view as a homeowner, I want an adequate assessment of the problem and an honest assessment of the work to be accomplished. As a homeowner, I trust Mr. Jackson's views and assessments. In addition, he (and his workers) passed the scrutiny of my discerning wife and family, who can be the toughest critics. I doubt Mr. Jackson knows I am on Angie's List. He did not ask me to write any assessment or review. I would be happy to provide more details of his work in the future or to anyone who inquires.
Description of Work: Installed undercabinet lights, painted walls and ceiling, replaced faucets in kitchen and bathroom.

I have used Chris two times. He was very mannerly and did a good job. He repaired a couple of holes in the bathroom wall, hallway, and replaced the entire light fixture in my garage. He also replaced the track mechanism on 4 of my sliding cupboards. He replaced all three baths toilet seats and wax ring.
Description of Work: Chris replaced the ballast in my light. He also bought me 8 fluorescent bulbs.
