[Member Name Removed], it was a pleasure to help keep you castle in check! Fare thee well and God Bless
Chris viewed the job on 3-16-16 and gave an estimate. He returned on 3-24-16. I told him that I would leave the back door to the garage unlocked so that he had access into the garage. I also texted him this information on 3-23-16. I discussed with him that there was an underground pipe to connect the down spout to. He called me at work and left a message that he could not get into the garage and that he could not find an existing underground pipe. So he left. The garage door was UNLOCKED but he tried the front door. He returned on 3-25-16 and installed the mail slot. I paid him the 475. He said since he could not find the existing pipe he would need to install a new system costing $375.00 He told me to call him a week to set up a time. The next day I dug near where he had been digging and found the existing drain pipe. I photographed the site and sent it to him on 3-25-16, no response. I resent it on 4-1-16, with no response. I called him on4-4-16 and spoke with him directly,. He said that he had the photos and text messages and he would come by on 4-6-16, measure for a few feet of pipe and finish the job. He never showed and has failed to complete an already paid for job. I had to hire another handyman who completed the work for $75.00 on 4-18-16. I believe that Chris Jackson owes me a refund of at least $75.00.
Description of Work: Was to install pre-purchased mail slot into garage door. Connect downspout to existing underground drain line.

My goal in writing this required response will be A. To bring clarity to an otherwise convoluted report. B. Satisfy the requirements of the Angie’s list complaint resolution and C. Help other Angie's members to see that some jobs are indeed a process that start with assumptions which are sometime wrong. These jobs consequently require more time, effort, diplomacy, and patience, with an understanding that we are fallible people in a fallible world where much can go or be conceived to go wrong. Houses unfortunately do not come with log books like ships and vintage cars, that would be so helpful. We are in the service industry, this makes us servants, yes that is right, but we are hired servants. I have been in this line of work for over thirty years. I know my trade and demographic well. We have seen may patterns over the years and this customer falls into one of many classic categories, led by a woman who painted her house pink and named herself “Bunny”. They are typical ones who think everything should always go well no matter what. One sometimes wonders why they hire people. After all they know everything and if they perhaps get caught in a lurch where their intellect is infringed upon there is always the internet with a YouTube video or Google source to bolster their side of the story. [Member’s name removed] has been a customer for over a year and even after receiving our stellar services, with talent on loan from God, she has never once done us the service of reporting on any of it. She never once even offered us so much as a cup of cold water even after being called back last year to remove grinding dust off of bricks etc. She even complained about the discoloration in the mortar. I pointed it out to her this year how well it all equalized and she did not even remember it. Go figure! Perhaps it is beneath her to respond with such good graces. Any way let me continue with the issue at hand. My goal is not for personal attacks. I consider it a shame that this process of complaint resolution does not first require that the parties meet privately and hash out their problems. When it gets to this point, nobody wins. We contracted in early March to break up concrete and install a new drain where an old one had been cut off and filled with concrete. Not sure why but as the story unfolds we shall see. [Member’s name removed] assured me that at the end of the concrete walkway a pipe was awaiting our skilled hands and willing hearts to connect them and direct water away from the foundation. We broke up a segment of walkway, cut the old pipe which went off at an angle and continued underneath the ground out of sight. With question marks in our heads we fell to the job only to find there was no pipe with which to connect ours, at the end of the proverbial yellow brick road. We dug deeper with incredulity and then to the left another hole only to find nothing. At this point we thought it best to call the customer and notify her of the situation, but could only leave a message on the only number I had at the time. Had the pipe been where we were told it was, the connection would have taken all of five minutes. I thought it unwise to dig up the customers yard without out permission, not to mention the added time for uncontracted work. A day or two later we showed up to install the mail slot that others said could not be done, and again we surveyed the yard for the elusive pipe. Under the assumption that it was not there at all, I gave [Member’s name removed] a price to dig up the yard and install a whole new system and tie it into another circuit. She knew full well what I was talking about at the time but reported it otherwise, making me out to be a Snidely Whiplash of sorts. Yet at that moment she realized she was wrong about its location, saw my valiant effort in looking for it and made an objective decision to paid me in full, realizing the final effort was minimal had the pipe been where she said it would be. To her credit [Member’s name removed] then took to what she thought was a “shovel ready job” and found the offending pipe about ten feet from where it should have been. She took photos, and then sent them to me expecting me to respond like the postal service used to, “through rain, sleet, and snow, which is exactly what transpired that week, with freezing temperatures. We finally set a date to come back and she rightly asked me, “to rebid the connection”, knowing that it included and extra trip back, more material and more digging. I arrived on April 6th as promised. She lied and said I did not. But how did she know, she was not home? And after taking some measurements, I believe I solved the mystery of the original abandoned pipe filled with concrete! Lo and behold it ran up hill. Thus it filled with water and probably spilled over behind the walk way and into the basement. Therefore the previous owner had it filled with concrete and angled the downspout to spill further out onto the new concrete walk way and wash the spider away. Sherlock Holmes eat your heart out! I then called [Member’s name removed], got no answer and left a message. I called again and left a message and again got no response. Apparently while I was waiting to correct the problem, [Member’s name removed] copped an attitude based on a false assumption that I was avoiding her and went ahead an sought to vilify me as some sinister two tongued thief. Is it possible I dialed the wrong number? Is it possible I called her work number and a coworker erased the message etc. Yes it is! She then adds insult to injury and asks me to pay for an incorrect “fix” from an unscrupulous “service provider”. Should I reward her for such irascible activity? I have now put in three hours to write and type and ponder and pray over and lose sleep, and all of the associated stress in dealing with this as it approaches midnight. I could have solved the problem in as much time. Why all the fuss? Now the elusive pipe leaned in the wrong direction, will fill up with silt, water, freeze and then crack and flood the basement and wash Mr. Spider away from Mrs. Tuffit. Can you Imagine this malady? Perhaps [Member’s name removed] will then see the error of her way, and seek reparations. Of course at that time the price will be much more. I have a better idea. I will offer her a return of her Angie’s list dues, in exchange for all her rights and privileges to the list etc. And therefore she will not mire any other highly rated service providers in her web of convolution, impatience and deceit. Honestly we are servants, who are in earnest solving people’s problems. After all I would not have over 500 A reports if this were not the case. She represents the 3% of people who will never be happy. Simply put we do not want your kind. You should have been vetted out in some initiation process and not allowed to distract us from serving Angie’s members, with blood, sweat and even tears. We pray to God, you find forgiveness and help for your invective. As the old song goes “You gotta change your evil ways baby”. Angie I still love your list! Sincerely Christopher J. Jackson a servant
I contacted Chris back in February regarding the outlets, doors, gutter, and downspout. We made an appointment for an estimate and Chris came out within a week. I work nights, so making appointments is difficult, but Chris worked with me on this. While he was looking around at the jobs that I needed done, he also noticed my loose stair railing and back wall bolts that were installed years ago when waterproofing the basement. He mentioned that should be tightened every few years and these have not. He returned at the end of the week and did the gutters, reattached the gutter and down spout, installed two outlets, and did the bolts. Today, March 29th, he arrived around 9AM as promised and installed my custom made door and surprised me with a screen door that he and his worker took apart and rebuilt to fit my doorway. They even kept in mind that I have cats and put a guard over the bottom half of the door to keep the cats from destroying the screen. He then came to my rescue, when I discovered that one of my water pipes had sprung a leak. This was fixed very quickly as well as the loose stair railing. Chris does excellent work. He takes great pride in what he does and rightfully so. I look forward to using Chris in the future. His prices are compatible with other companies but I think the quality exceeds others. Kudos to Chris and his crew. This is the second time that I have used Chris Jackson and I will continue to do so.
Description of Work: Installed two electrical outlets, reattached downspout & gutter, and cleaned out gutters ($695.00) done at the end of February. Ordered and installed custom door in basement and built screen door and attached, reattached stair railing and repaired a leaky facet ($1795.00).

Chris was on vacation when I first contacted him via Angie's List 'cause of good reviews. Contacted me when he returned, we met for review and estimate and were good to go. This was to be maybe a half-day job with nothing very intense, based on the inspection before buying the home. Chris showed up on time with a team and equipment and got to work. Even during the estimate he was good at explaining what was of importance or priority, and discovered an issue with a toilet not mentioned in the inspection. Afterwards he was good at explaining what will be needed in the future. Long story short, once the team got to work we discovered some leaky things and mushy wood, and the half-day job turned into basically a full-day job. Totally expecting them to say they would have to come back, but nope! They really went to it . Some of the team had to get more stuff, while the others continued working on the various items, and then they all just kept at it. Chris seems like a bit of a character, and really seemed to be watching over everything even while doing what he was doing. All the workers were pleasant and friendly and seemed to work well together. Really glad I called them, and feel much more secure knowing certain issues with the house are fixed. Thanks!
Description of Work: Reset some gutters, moved exhaust from attic to outside, removed two toilets and replaced floor beneath them. Strengthened a couple of joists, dealt with surprises, fixed a pipe. Update: they came again for some minor stuff... good experience.

Dear [Member Name Removed] and concerned readers. This report has the usual missing elements that paint a true picture of the report at hand. Miss [Member Name Removed] must be suffering from Alzheimer's or of some form of amnesia in her recounting of the events of the service call which happened not on Feb 23, 2016 but about five years before that. We have since been at her house to service many other problems but she never once reported on our service until now. Go figure? [Member Name Removed] has an addition added to her house which involved the skirting of a chimney and an extension below and existing roof. The roof was poorly installed many years hence leaving a low spot at the base of a chimney. It also had a downspout dumping it's contents into the low lying area. The flashing had pin holes in it and thus leaked into the walls in the addition. I presented her with two options, the long term solution and the short term solution. I bet you know which one she chose? We rerouted the downspout around the chimney and directly into the gutter and patched the pinholes. The repair must have been a success due to the fact that She had us repair and paint the damage that the leak had done. I told her that each year that she should have us clean out the gutters and check the roof until a windfall of cash comes and the long term solution could be acted upon. She has called on us several times to fix various things around the house and also check the roof. We have since re patched it and also had an issue with an ice dam on another part of the same roof which we fixed again short term, and told her again that the roof was installed incorrectly and needed to be replaced. Can you guess where that advice went? Years have gone by since our last visit and last month we had that perfect blend of weather that produced another ice dam and guess what happened? [Member Name Removed] please try and take this the right way. You need a new roof on the addition. You will have to discipline yourself and budget for the repair which will cost north of 2k . We worked within your current budget to temporarily solve your problem and it worked. It is now time to do as you were told several times by your faithful Angie's list service provider, who did the best he could given your circumstances. We sincerely regret that your roof leaks but we did the best that we could within your budget at the time. It's time for you to take responsibility for your own house and make the compulsory repair asap. Lastly we contractors are at war with the EPA. All products which used to last and stand the test of time do so no longer. They have been deemed "bad for the environment". In their place we have products that are three times the cost and a fraction of the life span. And they only serve to frustrate us and the homeowner as well as drive up costs prohibitively! We understand that we are all on a budget. I my self have seven children and support them on one income. We have made sacrifices and will continue to do so, but when it comes to repairing the house especially the roof, you should do what the roofer tells you to do or you will smart for it! Thank you for reading and as always Angie, I still love your list!

I have used Mr. Jackson and his crew several times at an old house and this new house over the last 8 years. I was unaware that he does house painting and needed some repainting of the front of my house. The original estimate was amazing, but when the work started, we renegotiated a higher price for the painting due to the complexity of the job. Workers were great. The crew also repainted a previous pantry room, a child's room, and completed odds and ends. We were happy with this work and will use Mr. Jackson again. I really did not mind a renegotiation of the price of the work. I trust Mr. Jackson is offering a fair and reasonable quote for the work of the project he offers to do. I also know that Mr. Jackson takes much pride in his work and the work of the craftsmen that he employs. Pictures available.

Dear Dr. [Member Name Removed] thanks for the positive response and congrats for making it a page of happiness. We don't usually renegotiate agreed upon pricing, but I think due to the long gap in between the estimate, approval and service date, somehow the details became uncertain. At any rate we worked it out as responsible adults should and that is our ultimate goal. Fare thee well and Godspeed.
I had Chris give me a quote in June for a complete bathroom remodel. A second contractor underbid him and so I decided to go with the cheaper of the two. The contractor that I chose, never did the job. Every time I tried to set up a time, he never had his calendar and then he just quit returning my calls. No apology or explanation. So I decided to go through Home Depot. They use Pro Rebath to do their remodels. They quoted us a price that was compatible with the first quote that Chris gave us. However, they did not do painting or replace windows. They spent 3 1/2 days on my bathroom and it was not complete. I then got in contact with Chris and explained my dilemma. I felt guilty that I had not used him in the first place. The job ended up costing me more then if I had went with his original quote. However, I now have a beautiful bathroom. Chris gave me a quote in November and said that he could do the job in December. However, I received a call shortly after from someone who was working with Chris and he said that he would like to come that Saturday to put in my block window. He custom built a block window for me and was careful to clean up. He was in and out in less then two hours. The window looks wonderful. The workers that came and did the painting, the medicine cabinet, and door fixtures acted very professional. They were mindful that we had cats and were careful as to not allow them to escape. They cleaned up after they were done and allowed us to check out their work to make sure that we were satisfied.
Description of Work: Prepared and painted bathroom walls and ceiling, painted bathroom doors, replaced door hinges and knobs, hung medicine cabinet in bathroom, and put in a block window.

Dear [Member Name Removed] you called me about this and I told you that in order to change the position of the light the electrical box behind it must be moved. This was not something we originally discussed or knew about before getting into it. It was not a problem before because of the style of light that was there. The one you bought for us to install required us to affix it to the box that was not centered from the last administration. You should have remembered that I told you to to buy another light with a larger foot print and we would solve this problem at no additional cost. So while I am waiting for you to make another light purchase or for you to offer to pay to have me move the box, you write a report that reflects and impetuous and irascible mind set. Also you fail to mention that at a moments notice we returned to hook up your sink faucet after your granite install crew left without telling you that they don't do it. And we did so during this busy holiday season at a reasonable cost to which you agreed. We served you will all our heart, offered to come back make a small adjustment and still your not happy? Do you think perhaps your are being a bit unreasonable?

Everything was great. Chris came out and estimated the project. Scheduled the date he was coming and showed up on that date and did everything he needed to do. The projects were varied but all were done as required and in one day. He was very professional about the schedule and the work was clean when he left. The jobs were ranging from plumbing to small carpentry and he did all of them well. The price seemed fair for all the work that had to be done.
Description of Work: We had a whole punch list of things that were broken around the house. Plumbing, - replacing faucets and drain plugs, fixing a loose soap basket in the shower, sliding door and screen repair, broken drawers and some other stuff. Chris fixed all of them as he said he would.

Chris Jackson returned my email through Angie's List. He said since it was a small job, they would normally do it at the end of a day, when they were in the neighborhood, which was fine with me. I called Chris at noon on Tuesday, and he got back to me circa 5pm and said his guys were on the way over. The guys were very friendly and professional. It actually took us longer to get the plaque and numbers out of the plastic packaging than it did for them to mount the plaque and put the numbers up. Again, I realize this is a small job that a lot of people would DIY, but this is why I'm a subscriber to Angie's List, so I don't even have to think about Doing It Myself. I would much rather pay someone a reasonable fee and have it done right. This also allowed me to try out this provider so that next time I have a small job, I feel comfortable calling them to do it for me.
Description of Work: Just a small job. We had numbers on our front steps, and they were obliterated when the steps were replaced in 2008. I got a plaque and numbers for the front of our house at Lowe's and never got around to putting them up. The plaque and numbers have been sitting in my attic for years. Last Thursday, a house inspector was out front, and then in our back yard, and I assumed he was a property tax assessor. When I asked him, he said he was there to give an estimate, and it turns out he had the house number wrong (he should have been two doors down). That, plus with Halloween coming up, I decided it was time to have the plaque and numbers put up.

From Chris' initial visit to give us an estimate to his follow-up call the day after to check and see if I was satisfied, the whole experience was a pleasure. All three people I had contact with were polite and professional and very willing to answer my questions. While Nick was finishing up, Tony even did two minor "honey-do" chores at no additional charge. I will definitely call them in the future.
Description of Work: Chris' employees, Tony and Nick, plastered and painted to cover up pipes left exposed after plumbing work was done. They first put a mesh covering over the openings, plastered, smoothed , primered, and painted. Water damage in another room was also repaired. The job was masterful and the walls are beautifully smooth and painted. No one would ever suspect the condition they were in before Tony and Nick applied their expertise.

I described the nature of the problem - basement waterproofing; he asked me for my location, when I told him Murrysville, his tone changed abruptly: he said to the effect "well, we have had problems with Murrysville; let me ask you a question: are you interested in the lowest price or are you interested in a relationship which a company"; I answered I was not looking for a relationship, just someone who would solve the problem; he said well, there is maintenance, etc.; I told him he was prejudging me based on where I lived, and based on this fact alone, and his arrogance, I would not do any business with him;
Description of Work: Called @ 2:58 PM to set up appointment for estimate; his phone number showed up as 571-306-5201

He just watched his employees work and didn't really do anything himself. One of his employees fixed my leaking bathroom faucet but had a difficult time doing it. I noticed after he left that it was a little crooked. They ended up arguing with me on how it was to be installed.
Description of Work: Installed a dryer vent and flushed out the water heater.

Dear [Member name removed], Thank you for what I think is an objective report and void of the usual emotional tirade associated with someone that was not completely satisfied with our services. It has been thirty five years that I have now been doing this work, sixteen of which have been in the Pittsburgh market. Patrons have been wonderful and it has truly been a pleasure working with Angie's list customers. I wish however to clarify your and others perspective. When we do a "honey do" list at a customers house, we try and fit the specific jobs to those that are gifted accordingly and those who perhaps need practice in a certain area. The idea is to train up a streamlined crew, who can perform all the tasks that I can with the same degree of alacrity and speed. In some areas I have succeeded and can therefore, after completing my assigned tasks, Supervise, administrate and or return some of the many phone calls Angie generates for us. I am now in the over 50 crowd, recently became a grandfather, have spawned other service providers on Angie's list and think I have finally earned the coveted position of supervisor. Please remember we in this country pay people millions of dollars to do so and without these type of seasoned professionals, our system of checks and balances would suffer greatly. Another possibility Is, that from a youth I have suffered with minor back pain from putting an engine into my first car at the age of fifteen. It is usually manageable but this summer I re injured it twice and when this happens, the level of pain is prohibitive and at times I must take a break and let the healing process slow my rate of productivity. So the next time you see a person of my age and experience with the appearance of "doing nothing" , perhaps this admonition will help you to have a more perfect understanding of the whole picture. Thanks for reading and considering my side of the story. Fare thee well and Godspeed.
It was very nice to have all on my list taken care of in one day. ---Reinstall cabinet door, install stair handle and shelf, cement window well bricks, paint baseboards, touch up paint walls, remove ceiling light fixture and patch dry wall, wash windows, weed yard, put heavy sofa downstairs, move dresser downstairs. Whew! It was great to have it all done at once!
Description of Work: About a dozen things on my honey do list.

Mr Jackson stopped by within a few days and provided a detailed estimate for repairs for the folding door and front driveway gate. He followed up within a week with an associate to complete the job just as he bid it. Very prompt and competent repairs.

Thanks [Member name removed], always a pleasure to help. Hope to hear from you for future Jobs.
We usually make a list of handyman jobs as they develop and when we have a long list we call Chris Jackson because we have used his services several times to our great satisfaction. This time was no exception. The jobs covered about three days work. Two different crews ( two men each crew) did the work, with Chris often working alongside them. We sometimes add jobs to do while the work is ongoing (this time it was the faucet repair, one extra garage wall to paint, and washing machine balancing). We trust Chris enough to ask him to tell us if he sees anything else that needs attention - knowing that he will not add anything just to inflate the number of jobs (this time he noticed that the washing machine was rocking a lot while in use). His crews work hard and are very courteous. Everything about the work and interactions with Chris and his men was very professional. So, it was another batch of handyman jobs done to our great satisfaction, and at a reasonable cost. Thanks again, Chris!
Description of Work: Repaired falling insulation in attic; painted two walls of garage and part of its ceiling; repaired broken concrete and several gaps and cracks in front steps of house; replaced a ceiling panel in basement; fixed a fluorescent light; fixed a backyard spotlight; pressure washed and painted patio awning; rebalanced washing machine; replaced outdoor faucet handle; removed sealant stains from glass door.
