it went great!

Pete is great. He's been doing my clean and check on my gas furnace for years. I decided to start the furnace up during our recent cold spell and after a few days it began cycling on and off without heating. I called Pete and he came right over. He checked a few things and got a new part which he installed. We were up and running again when the furnace started doing the same thing again the next day. Pete came back and called in a coworker who is an American Standard technician to help him ascertain the problem. Seems there was an internal failure in the furnace and rather than have it repaired and have other parts possibly fail during the winter I decided to have him install a new furnace. Pete offered to credit back the cost of the part. Pete always explains exactly what he's doing, what he's found and the best way to take care of the problem. He's honest and won't try to sell you something you don't need or do work that isn't needed. He's always concerned about your safety and comfort. I wouldn't have anyone else do my furnace work. I know I can trust Pete.

Everything is working fine. However, they ended up replacing several different things; the relay, the pump, and the evaporator coil. This made me wonder if they had diagnosed the problem properly in the first place. Luckily, I had a home warranty, but I still had to pay $500 out-of-pocket. They charged me an additional $100 because the air handling unit was in a small space, even though they were able to get in and out of the space without any additional work. I also asked if knocking radiators indicated a problem, and was told that my heating system might need significant work. I don't totally trust them.
