They did an incredible job and I am extremely happy with the results.
Description of Work: I had several large trees from myu neighbor's property overhanging my driveway and garage. Debris from the trees was constantly making my driveway a mess and clogging the gutters of the garage. I needed the tree limbs cut back to the property line and I needed this done all the way to the top of the tress so nothing hung over my property .

Horribly. I insisted I be there when it was done. The day of, I called at 6AM to confirm the time with them. They told the time they'd arrive. I went out to run some errands and when I got back, the fools had already butchered my tree. I'm heartbroken. It feels like they destroyed a loved family member.

A few years ago I had a tree cut down and this large Magnolia tree pruned. Based on that pricing this quote is not very good. He came by when I was at work and looked at the tree. He wrote the estimate up and left it in my mailbox. They came within a couple of days like they said they would. Over the phone she was very professional, I have not met with anyone yet.

Excellent. As I described above. The tree we had trimmed in our front yard was really well done, it almost looks like a new tree. This work was done in May 2017 but we also had a tree down in our backyard in the summer of '16. Both times the work was great.
Description of Work: I have gotten three estimates from Carl's and have hired them for two of the jobs. The third came in a little higher than I wanted to pay. However, the other day were very reasonable and the quality of work done was outstanding. If you are in the South Hills and need tree trimming or removal done, these guys are great.

I was extremely happy with the service provided. It took a little over 2 weeks to get on the schedule but was worth the wait. They did a signed proposal and invoice by email. The only other thing I would have appreciated was a confirmation they had received the signed contract from me, but they confirmed quickly when I inquired. Very convenient. The 2 employees were very courteous and helpful. They even removed a little old pile of weeds that I had forgotten about.
Description of Work: They flush cut one tree and trimmed another and also applied the safe for children and pets insect killer to the front yard since the tree was infested with aphids and were everywhere.

Scheduling was a breeze. I called Carl's Tree Service after a recommendation from a local landscaping store. They were polite, professional and were able to come out for an estimate later that week. The gentleman who came out had an estimate emailed to me that night. Flash forward to 9/20/2016, my hedges were trimmed and reshaped by the time I returned home from work. Top notch quality from someone who has been in the business for a good while. They're insured and employ and actual arborist who looks at the overall health of your trees and shrubs, not just the cutting/pruning of them.

Great experience! Joe came to my house to give the estimate. We walked around the yard and discussed the work that I was hoping to get completed. He was clearly very knowledgeable and quite professional. After his visit, I got an emailed estimate. It was detailed and explained exactly what we agreed was to be done. When the crew showed up they immediately went to work. They completed everything exactly as Joe said they would. It was an easy, hastle free job!!
Description of Work: They took down a small tree in the front yard and grinded the stump, trimmed hedges on the side of the house, cleaned up fenced garden area that I no longer wanted and removed and cleaned up all debris.

The scheduler was pleasant but after I requested no delivery on the date they suggested, they called me at 7 in the morning and delivered the wood anyway. I was told I would get a load of assorted hardwoods....the ones they mentioned were Oak, Maple, Ash, Cherry and no Pine. What I received was a significant amount of rejected stumps, knots and other throw away wood. Also had a disproportionate amount of Elm which is almost unsplittable by hand and even worse to burn. Paid a reasonable amount of money for low quality.

Communication was done mainly though emails occasionally through phone calls. Denise Huntoon answered emails in a timely manner and was responsive. Matt Simoni, the estimator made himself available though phone calls as needed and answered questions clearly. The problem was with the quality of work on the day of the scheduled service since several items on the work list were not performed. I initially contacted carl tree service for consultation regarding a huge 40+ dawn redwood in our frontyard. We were considering either pruning or removal of the tree depending on total cost including maintenance.Matt Simoni had provided itemized work list for pruning the tree (1450$) and removing the tree (2750$) and an estimate for each work type based on inspection of the tree and the property. When I inquired through email about the cost of yearly maintenance should we decide to prune the tree, Matt stated it would be maintenance free for 5 years. This estimate directly influenced our decision to keep the tree and prune it rather than remove it completely On the day of scheduled service, the team showed up on time. Only one person was pruning the tree at any one time. Even though they spent the whole day at the property, the work was not performed as agreed upon. The team left dead branches on the driveway, the lawn and one big branch in the bush. In addition there was a "smucker's" wrap and soda bottle on my lawn. More importantly, big dead branches continues to fall extensively from the tree (photos taken today 4 days after the said pruning). The following is the itemized work list provided by Matt Simoni with my notes in parentheses: Scope of Work A: Prune dawn redwood in front yard. -Raise low branches to provide clearance away from structures and driveways ( DONE) -Remove hazardous deadwood. (NOT DONE) -Thin out center as much as possible. (NOT DONE) Clean up and haul away all brush and debris. (NOT DONE) Price $1,450.00 Furthermore, at the end of the day one member of the team told me and my husband that the tree is rotten from inside and needs to be removed or it needs yearly maintenance to reassess. When I expressed my surprise that we were not informed of this prior since we were considering removal vs. pruning, they claimed they only realized that halfway through the job when he climbed the tree and saw a hole in the trunk that would collect water and cause the rot. However he was able to point the hole to me and was visible from the ground. At this point it feels as if we wasted 1450$.

Carl's Tree Service was competent and felled trees with precision. The company owner came to assess the work and to provide a cost estimate. A written cost estimate was completed and sent back within three days of the assessment visit. The proposed work order was detailed and specific, no vague generalizations. When estimate was accepted, a mutually agreed work schedule was arranged. Work crew, supervised by owner's mature and experienced son, showed up on time with all equipment. They knew what needed to be done and set to work: safety measures were implemented and crane truck was carefully positioned and stabilized. Upper branches were cut and lowered delicately by the crane worker, not dropped haphazardly, in order to avoid damage to fencing and hedges below. Main tree trunks were cut in sections and also lowered with crane cable, not falling with the shout of "timber". Chipping of branches and clean-up of debris was ongoing as the trees were systematically felled. The entire job required more than one full working day to complete. All logs, branches and debris were removed; work areas were cleaned up and left neat. The equipment used included: crane truck, bucket truck, chipper and truck to haul wood chips, flat-bed truck to haul away large sections of three tree trunks, heavy-duty stump grinder. The cost of the entire job was "good" in view of the equipment needed, the work-time involved and the completely satisfactory results.
Description of Work: This was a complex job:1) completely removing 120 ft.tall Hemlock that was precariously leaning toward the residence and likely to fall onto the house in a storm; 2) completely removing and stump grinding of 2 large, old Beech trees that were dying fast and dropping branches onto garage roof and public street; 3) pruning hazardous deadwood out of another Beech tree overhanging garage and driveway. A bucket truck was insufficient; therefore a monster crane truck with basket for worker was used.

Absolutely fantastic. I got 4 bids and the remaining three were $1800 to $2250. They did it for $900, with no fuss or bother. They were the first to get the bid back and did the work within one week of signing contract. They wanted no money until job was done. They showed up with 4 big pieces of equipment and did the job very efficiently and professionally. Also, it should be noted that I saved $100 by telling them they could come whenever they wanted, since there was no rush to the job and they said they would do this job when they were in the neighborhood. Finally, even though their ratings were low, I decided a tree was a tree, and once gone, I could care less. I couldn't have been more surprised and pleased with their service.

We were not impressed with having to call our POC multiple times to find out when work was going to be completed. You should not have to keep calling someone to see that they come out and do their job. The cost of landscaping and materials is very inflated and the quality of what you receive is poor.
Description of Work: My husband & I contacted Carls Tree Service & Landscaping to have a tree removed in our front yard. We also hired them to replace a retaining wall and have our property landscaped. They did a great job with removing the tree and stump as well as removing and building our new wall. However I would never recommend them for landscaping of any kind! We paid over 8,000 for the landscaping alone, and a lot of the plants & shrubs they put in last year died. They have a one year guarantee on their plants & shrubs so we contacted them to have them replaced. Our POC said he would be out in one to two weeks to replace them (5/2013). That came and went and we had to call again. We are still waiting to have them replaced. We are halfway through May and we have dead plants and shrubs still in our yard! They were hired to do a job & we constantly have to track someone down to come back out and finish it correctly. Since the work was done in 2012 & they were paid upon completion, we feel as though it is not important to them to make us a priority now in 2013.

Didn't even get to the starting line...they were that incompetent.
Description of Work: I couldn't even get a estimate out of this company let alone contact them again to try and do business. To make a long story short, I spoke to someone on 3 different occasions. One person advised that he would visit the property to inspect the trees and get back to me with an estimate. That never happened. When I called back, the receptionist said this particular person was on assignment and she would have him get back to me. And, of course, that never happened either. And so i'm moving on.

I initially talked with them and they said they could cut the limbs back to the tree, and they said they could do this. The estimator said they could and the arborist said they could not. The first company I got an estimate from stated that I could not do what I wanted to. I got a second estimate and they told me that they could do what I wanted, but the arborist said they could not. So they charged me a higher price by $400 to do the same job I could of gotten for cheaper from the first company They did not clean up after themselves very well. The arborists did a good job at cutting the trees, but the gopher did not clean up very well.

Needing a cherry picker for this job made it tough to find tree services that would work for me. The man that came out said that they would cut four limbs off of the Pin Oak in the front. My neighbor was complaining that the branch was going over the property line. So the man that came out said that he would cut four limbs off and make it balanced. When the arborist came out, he said that he couldn't do that because that would kill the tree, and make it in jeopardy of blowing over. If the work wasn't done properly, I would have had a limb fall on to my house. When Carl's finally came out, they did a very good job at cleaning the tree up to make it steady and aesthetically pleasing. They didn't get to the very top, where they left a handfull of branches to get off. Numerous dead twigs keep falling on to the lawn. With the tree in the back, the guy said that they would cut it down and bring all of the branches in. They cut it bare. They went right back into the stump. All of the branches stemming from the trunk were cut off. Now, everytime the tree get leaves, a stiff breeze will blow off the small brances and all of the leaves. I called another arborist because I thought the tree was dying. I found that it wasn't, and that in a couple of years it will be strong again. It is very sparse, and is coming along now. Then they had a grunt worker that was supposed to rake everything up. He ended up not doing a very good job. I could tell who the regular staff were, and who the grunt workers were. I ended up having to go out there myself and rake up a whole bunch of debris that was left after the companies clean up.

We contracted for landscaping to repair damage done to existing landscaping when a tractor trailer drove through our front yard attempting to make a turn. We paid in full on Nov 5, 2008 when the first part of the work was done because the landscaper stated that she would return the following week to finish the work. Since that date, we've been unsuccessful in getting the company to finish the job, as well as to account for the time and materials charged against our prepaid account balance of $1685. After more than 10 phone calls to the landscaper between mid-November 2008 and July 2009, two telephone complaints to the company owner, and two visits to the owner at his shop, we finally asked for a refund for the work left unfinished. At that time, the company provided us with a statement that claimed the budget was exhausted, however, the prices for plants were inflated, they showed equipment used and fill dirt placed that never happened, overstated the hours expended on the job, and even added a line item for overhead/profit.

Response from Carl's Tree Service
The member called our company and asked us to provide an insurance estimate for landscape repair work due to damage that was caused by a truck that had driven through her yard. Our estimator provided the member with a proposal, which she accepted and we completed the work and she paid us. Regardless of what she believes the material and/or labor expenses were. She hired us (based on the proposal), we did the work, and she paid us.

I wasn't even home this time, but it looked great when I got back, cleaned up and neatly done. Required climbing equipment, chipper, and bucket truck. Would have been cheaper to just chop it down, but we like the shade/privacy. When they learned I would be having painters coming sooner than expected, they were able to show up the very next day after I accepted the proposal, that was very nice of them!
Description of Work: I have an elm that grows like a weed. Every few years, we have them come and rein it back in. This time, we made sure that the many branches on the house side of the tree were removed, hoping to keep the squirrels off the roof and to have fewer leaves in the gutters.
