The soil pipe on our roof caused a leak in the wall where there are kitchen cabinets, a built in microwave and the oven, so we needed to replace the cabinets, which ultimately led to a total kitchen remodel. We received estimates from a few contractors, and we finally decided to select Don to do the work. When he informed us that he would not be available for five months, we told him that we were willing to wait for him because we just felt that he would be the best person to do the work. We are glad that we did! We had a positive experience with Don. Of course we have heard horror stories about contractors in terms of not being reliable, taking too long and not doing quality work. We experienced none of those problems with Don. The job took two and a half weeks from start to finish, and then a couple of hours to follow up on a few minor ?punch list? items. The extent of the work included: taking down old cabinets, repairing the damaged wall, replacing the old cabinets with new ones, replacing old lighting fixtures with recessed lighting, replacing laminate countertops with granite, replacing a vinyl floor with ceramic tile, adding a backsplash and installing new stainless steel appliances. He also took care of some minor repairs in our bathroom and dining room, which also sustained damage due to the broken soil pipe. From the time he started the demo work until the end of the job, he was available and willing to answer all of our questions. What we valued the most about Don was his efficiency and knowledge, while also exhibiting a sense of urgency and doing a quality job. He recommended several vendors for us to work with in terms of sourcing materials (cabinets, granite, flooring, etc.), and for the most part, we did not have any real problems with any of them. He made several suggestions that really helped us when making decisions, and we appreciated his expertise. He even added a couple of unexpected touches that helped to make the kitchen ?pop? He and his able bodied assistant Don were very respectful of our house, and we were able to work around them and vice-versa. When friends would ask us how our project was going, we would tell them, ?Our contractor is running us, not the other way around!?, meaning that he was always on top of what needed to get done, and we complied with what he needed us to do to make the project go as smoothly as it did. The kitchen looks wonderful; it turned out better than we expected! If you are looking for a very experienced, knowledgeable contractor who is accessible and will do what he says he will do within a reasonable time frame and expense, you should hire Don!

Amazing, quality job done by a wonderful crew in a very expedient time frame.....They fit us in after we had a surprise roofing issue and a wedding to be in the back yard in weeks. Godsend!

Our house is 90 years old so we weren't aware of what was behind our walls until Don began his work. After the dividing wall was knocked down and the kitchen and dining room walls were demolished, we found several critical issues. The electric was the old knob and tubing that had to be replaced. We had no insulation in our walls! There were no support beams over our kitchen door, kitchen window, and both sets of windows in our living room. After explaining all the issues and their consequences, Don did all the necessary work to insure our home was warmer and more sturdy. The township inspector saw what was there and said he was glad Don did the appropriate repairs because he would not have been able to sign off on the structural and electrical aspects. In the process, Don fixed our bathroom plumbing so our tub drained correctly and our leaks in the basement. He is a carpenter by trade but he has mastered so many aspects of remolding (plumbing, electrical, granite and cabinet installation, lighting, etc.) His suggestions, explanations of different ways to solve concerns made this whole remodeling process a positive learning experience for us. The result is a fabulous kitchen/dining room space we are so proud of. We are now planning to have Don continue his work by doing our living room also in May. This is the note we gave Don when the work was done: "We are so appreciative of the work that you did on our home. Your professionalism was remarkable! Your knowledge was vast in every area of this job, that turned out to be more of a challenge than we all thought. Your personality made it comfortable to make decisions in this new process. His crew were able to start the job a few days early and they worked efficiently while keeping the dust to a minimum! I also felt completely comfortable leaving Don and his crew at my house when I was at work (which I normally never do). Don kept me abreast of the project and gave great advice on the bathroom design. He has some great vendors for tile and marble - and passes along any contractor discounts which I really appreciated. Furthermore, Don didn't "nickel and dime" me when I decided to add a few extras during the project (such as a shower bench). I couldn't be more pleased with my new bathroom! I highly recommend Don Volkert and can't imagine ever using another contractor in the future! Don, feel free to use me as a reference anytime!

Basically the guy came out shortly after the first call and then after I sent him another message on August 5th and I said "Just seeing if you got a chance to write an estimate?" It's been a month since I had heard from the guy now. So I will no longer be using his service now or in the future.

Don and Team were outstanding! They arrived on time every morning and performed the work exactly as we had agreed upon. The craftsmanship of the work performed was excellent, and Don personally over saw every aspect of the job. Don's quote was reasonable, and I believe very fair for the work performed.I highly recommend Don and his Team!

Why we had them come to our home and give a quote was probably their ranking on Angie's List website. They were fine. There was no bad experience. We're still looking into the price.

Don with help of one or two helpers worked diligently to get the both bathrooms completed in three weeks which included a few snow days. Throughout the entire project, Don was on the job. He listened to all of my ideas and helped me make decisions in situations where it was hard to choose. Each morning, we would discuss the work from the prior day and review the work that he was planning for the upcoming day. The enitre experience was positive and the price was very fair. For these reasons, I would absolutely recommend Don and his company to anyone considering a remodeling project.

Don Volkert did an outstanding job! We were completely pleased with his and all crew members professional attitude and actions. Don communicates all aspects of job status. He began the job while we were on vacation and did a wonderful job keeping us up to date on his progress. Don keeps the worksite clean and orderly even though installing a new kitchen is a very dirty job. He provided valuable design advice to us when we began the job which was very valuable to the success of the project. Don brought in subcontractors to do specific parts of the job under his supervision (hardwood refinishing, drywall finishing, etc.) who did excellent work. Don did an absolutely outstanding installation of the cabinet molding that resulted in a showcase kitchen installation. Also important is that his cost estimate was very accurate; final cost matched the estimate with exception of "extras" that we added during the course of the job. I would absolutely contact Volkert Remodeling for any future jobs in our home.

The job went excellant. We couldn't be happier. Don has an eye for detail. The completed job exceeded out expectations!

I cannot say how thoroughly pleased we are with the work Don and his crew did on our home. During demo and construction, they were very neat and organized and they always cleaned up before knocking off for the day. There were several days after the demo, but before the new roof was on, when we had some massive rain storms. Don made sure to ?button-up? everything to keep the water out which was no small task. The craftsmanship was second to none in my opinion with strong attention to every detail. To say that Don is a perfectionist is to say that water is wet and the sky is blue. He will not accept anything that is not just right. As crucial to the success of the project as the actual craftsmanship surely was, Don?s ideas as we proceeded with the construction were fantastic. He completely reconstructed the overhang in front of the garages and back door to make a nice clean line the entire length of the space. He suggested a ductless mini-heat pump/air conditioner unit for the new room which is amazingly efficient and effective in heating and cooling the space. He suggested putting vinyl soffit under the carport instead of just leaving the studs bare; that really brightened up that space. The new siding looks fantastic; so much so that the next door neighbor had ?siding envy? and hired Don to re-side their home! In summary, if you have a home improvement project that you want done right, hire Volkert Remodeling and Don will make you happy.

He was to respond with a price/estimate. I never heard yes, no or go to h*** from him again. Most disappointing- perhaps something untoward happened to him?

The project was great overall. Don and his assistant demoed the bathroom down to the studs in one day and didn't make any mess in the house. It was raining but they laid down drop cloths and it everything was clean by the time we got home from work with the kids. We had planned the whole project with him ahead of time and he helped us pick out the fixtures / tile etc. They were on the garage when they started doing the work and had the bathroom completed in a few days. We opted to paint it ourselves so Don worked with us to complete that at night while not holding him up during the day. Overview of work completed - demo of bathroom down to studs - all new plumbing to shower / sink / toilet - install new vent fan and lighting (all electrical) - drywall - complete installation of shower including wetbed - all tile work shower / floor - installation of all fixtures including TP holder / towel racks / medicine cabinet This was not the first time we had Don Volkert work in our home. He did work for the previous owners (complete kitchen remodel / finished the basement) and has done work for us two other times (tankless hot water heater / removed wall in living room) in our 4 years in our house. We will not use any other contractor for work in our home.

Our 13 year old HWH was leaking and we needed to get it replaced. We called Don because he has completed multiple projects in our house before. He got us in touch with a expert at Ferguson to discuss our options for replacement. We found the unit we wanted and Don worked it into his schedule because we were leaking a lot of water. The project actually hit on all utilities. The old tank was piped right in with copper and had a 220 line while the new system uses propane (from our buried tank) and needed to be vented outside. Don did the project himself and got it all done in one day for us. He ran gas/water/electrical/vet lines and we only had the water shut off in the house for a few minutes while he was making the tie-ins. He also walked us through the operation of the unit and set the water temperature to our liking by having us test the faucets we use most. The new system works great and we now have an endless supply of hot water and I am looking forward to seeing how much we save on our future power bills.

Volkert Remodeling was our Godsend! We had gone through a very bad experience prior to hiring Don and his crew...after our first experience with another company we were apprehensive, but there was no need. Volkert Remodeling was fantastic and turned our nightmare into a real dream come true! The custom shower and the heated floor are amazing! 2 years later I still go into our bathroom and say "happy feet (warm feet rock!)..and I love this bathroom!" The tile work looks sooo pretty and now we finally have shelving in our bathroom for storage/towels etc. There are no words to fully express how happy we are with Volker Remodeling. Fantastic work! We had Don come in to gut and remodel the kitchen of my family home after my Dad's death. Really emotional time for us and Don helped the process of updating the home so much easier. VERY trustworthy so we could just give him a key to the house and he could come and go without us having to be there. Never a worry as Volkert Remodeling, under the supervision of Don Volkert, is a class act with high quality work with customer service and satisfaction a #1 priority and at a fair price.

Don was great. We had our share of challenges with the cabinet manufacturer and kitchen designer errors that had nothing to do with Don, but he was great at problem solving and thinking up ways to make things work. I ordered the cabinets on my own and some came in damaged and others came in wrong. This created major delays and major stress for me. Don was able minimize all of this by thinking of creative solutions to keep our project moving forward.He did a lot of custom finishing work on my cabinets to give them the furniture-finished base look that they were supposed to have and it turned out fabulous . And his custom carpentry work on the recessed panel wainscotting was top knotch. I am still waiting for painters to come, then I will send him pictures for his website. Don was very customer oriented and was always willing to explain my options and do what he could to get the look I wanted. He was always there on time and he stayed til the job was completed, not moving on to another job when mine was almost done, like so many contractors do. Plus he is just generally a nice, upbeat, can-do, kind of guy. I would definitely work with him again.

We hired Don Volkert of Volkert Remodeling to remodel our kitchen. We are still mid project, but I cannot say enough good things about this contractor. He gave us a very detailed estimate and has so far been right on par with the original price quoted and services rendered. He is friendly, professional, experienced and very flexible with my requests. He arrives promptly every morning, whistling a happy tune and leaves the work area in good order and broom clean each day. He does all the work himself (with a helper) and is here for every aspect of the project, which was very important to us. Since we are not always home when work is going on, we didn't want outside contractors, that we had never met, having free access to our house when we weren't around. Don worked closely with the kitchen designer to ensure that the cabinets ordered were the correct measurements and ensuring that the layout designed would work in "real life" A kitchen remodel is a very stressful experience on a family and we were prepared for the worst. Fortunately, Don made the whole thing as painless as possible and his sunny disposition made his constant presence, during the work period, a welcome change vs. my experience with most workmen I have had in my home. The inevitable mess was kept to a minimum considering the magnitude of the job. Don was very respectful of our home, taking care to block off adjacent areas with tarps. It was very essential to me, as a stay at home mom, that I be able to get along with the person doing this work. I was aware of the fact that we would have to spend a great deal of time together. My instincts were right in choosing Don, who is not only a pleasure to work with but very good at what he does.....He is the epitome of professionalism and expertise.
