The cover piece of our Dacor downdraft vent fell inside accidentally, the vent can still operate but the metal piece created a noisy sound. I called Rosedale Service on repairing our downdraft vent. He asked my address over the phone and he said he will call me again to set up a time to stop by. But later he showed up at his convenient time without noticing us. He cannot get the metal piece out instead pushing the metal piece further inside, then he just simply put on the backup cover we have and charged us about $150 for the first service! After he left, of course the noisy issue remains and the noise was getting louder. Every time we operated the vent, we could hear the metal piece was shaking around and made noises. So we called Rosedale service again and hope he could re-fix the issue. He showed up and charged us for the second service, took off the part of the vent underneath the oven this time, cut the metal piece into two pieces and got them out. Then he resealed the vent quickly in a rush with a very minimal use of some special type of foil tape. Some parts are not sealed. This job can be done at one time visit, but he charged us twice for the same repairing. Couple weeks later, we started to notice the issue of oil leaking from the vent underneath part where he did the resealing. We didn't pay attention at the beginning and the issue got worse. We never had similar issue before he repairing our vent. The leaking is probably because he didn't seal the vent back well after he took out the piece. I called him multiple times and left a message and never got him call us back. We thought he may too busy and didn't get our message. Couple days later he called us back and only because he accidentally dialed our number and thought we are someone else. After he recognized it is us he is a little annoyed. Obviously he purposely didn't return our phone call. But the oil leaking is due to he didn't seal the vent well last time. He said he will only take a look at this issue if we pay him as a new repair job. We are very disappointed with Rosedale's service.

Response from Tom Minshall
I am sorry for her disappointment, but many points need clarification. She first called on 10/31/12, we went out the next day but, due to having a wrong phone number, we could not call her beforehand. Only her parents were there, who could not speak a word of English. Through the help of a friend who speaks Chinese, I got them to understand what we were there for. The piece which they had dropped inside of the vent was too large to remove and I put it out of the way and tested unit. Even though we were there an. hour, I only charged them the serrvice call and $30.00 (total $125.00. They called back on 1/19/13 and said it was still rattling. I agreed to come out again with no service call charge and a $200.00 fee to remove unit in order to get piece out. This is a downdraft hood which involves disconnecting duct and removing blower assembly to acess. We had to replace the switch which goes on the gear motor, cut the old piece in half to remove and re-assemble unit, re-install motor assembly, and tape duct work. Due to the amount of frying there was a tremendous amount of grease inside the vent hood. I was there for 2 3/4 hours and did not charge them any extra for the switch. Since grease was dripping from the vent at that time, she wanted to clean some of the grease off which took an extra half hour to accomplish. Duct tape was put around the blower and vent pipe going through the cabinet. When she left a message about the grease dripping again, I was unable to call her back right away. When I talked to her and explained that there is nothing inside to catch the grease and that the only possibility was to tape the vent hood itself (not normally ever done) or to clean inside metal plenum, but I would have to charge for doing the job. Obviously, this did not sit well since her next step was to post her response on Angies LIst. I guess that you cannot satisfy everyone. Tom

I have a Maytag Drier that was not getting hot, so Rosedale Service replaced one of the elements. I had a 7 o'clock appointment on the 7th and I work nights. When I got home from work he was sitting at my house at quarter of 7. I was impressed with that. He went in, looked at the Drier and explained what the problem was and what he had to do to fix it. Unfortunately he did not have the part on hand. He said he would order the part and be back the next day at the same time. He did what he said and he was back there early again. He was in, fixed it and out within an hour. I thought the price was a little high, but I know that this was a high-end drier when I bought it, I've had it for 28 years now, and he did explain to me that it was a good washer/drier set that I have, and if I have any problems to continue fixing it because they don't make that particular make and model any more, and that was the Cadillac of the industry at the time. He was very professional, very knowledgeable of the industry and true to his word.

My wife and I returned from Vacation on July 6th and discovered that our 8 Year old very expensive Maytag Refrigerator was not working. We had to throw out almost $300 of food. We checked for local large appliance repair and decided on Rosedale Services. Rosedale Service ( Tom, owner ) was recommended by a cardiologist freind who said that was excellent and not expensive. Tom arrived Monday afternoon, July 9th as stated on the phone. He checked the refrigerator and said the Freon had leaked out of the system but the compressor was good. I asked him to do a Leak Check and he said he didn't have to because his experience said that 99 times out of 100 it is the Evaporator Coil. He ordered a new Evaporator and installed it. He recharged the system and left for the day. I called him that night to tell him that the refrigerator was not cooling. He said that he thought he might have crimped a connection. He ordered a new Evaporator and came over the next day and installed it and recharged the system. The refirgerator ran fine and he charged me for his labor and the evaporator from the second visit only ( $900.00). No charge for the first visit and the first evaporator. 2-1/2 Weeks later the Refrigerator stopped cooling. He came the next day with his leak detector, thinking one of his resoldered joints was leaking. His leak detector showed no leaks. He then leak checked the Main Refrigerator Box and discovered the leak was in the Box. An unfixable leak. He said I would need a new Refrigerator. He said the he owed us a refund. A week later we received a check in the mail from Rosedale for every penny we paid him. No charge for any time or labor for any of his 3 visits and no parts or freon charge at all. Now there is a totally honest and reliable man. I was super impressed. I was hoping for at least a refund for the cost of the Evaporator and part of the labor. But no.......a 100% refund. I highly recommend Rosedale for any major large appliance Repair. He has excellent knowledge, skills and is extremely courteous and honest to the core!!!

Called Tom on Sunday 8/5/2012. He actually answered the phone even though he had just got back from vacation. The problem was with our refrigerator and initially it was not a crisis as there was a buzzing sound and no ice being made but the frig was still cold. Tom told us he was really busy and would get to us as soon as possible, probably 2 days. Later that day the refrigerator completely stopped working and we placed another call to Tom. He answered the phone again and told us he would fit us in somehow the next day. He arrived around 4:30 and was very professional and courteous. We were completely happy with Tom, his service and integrity.
Description of Work: Tom came to the house to assess our 8 year old Kenmore Elite refrigerator problem which was not working at all. He tried to fix what was typically the most common problem, a compressor switch, but the problem ended up being the compressor. Tom gave us an honest assessment of cost to repair which we decided not to move forward with the repair since it was more than 50% the cost of a new refrigerator. Tom charged us a reasonable service charge and we went shopping for a new refrigerator.

On Sunday my Refridgerator stopped working. The bottom mount freezer was working great - but the top fridge lost all cold. I called and left a message for Rosedale on Sunday. By Monday morning I received a call back from Tom who asked a few questions and advised that he could get a tech out by the afternoon. Around noon I received a call from Craig that he was on his way - arrived 15 minutes later. I described the problem and he immediately went to work to diagnose the problem. He came to the conclusion that my fan was not operating - I saw it not working as well when he removed the cover. Fortunately he had a spare in the truck and replaced it (two hours later and the fridge is still cold). Craig was great - professional, polite, friendly and efficient - dove right in and solved the problem. He re-assembled my freezer back to it's original condition and then did a thorough vacuuming of my vent and grill underneath. Left no mess. All in all - he was gone in about an hour. My fault for not getting an estimate on the phone - even for the service call. In my head I was estimating $150-$175 total so was a bit surprised when he said $295 - but again - I have no point of reference (so for all I know this could have been a great deal), didn't ask for an estimate, etc. It still seemed high (maybe because how fast the job was completed) but glad to have the fridge working again. What might have helped is a more detailed receipt that showed how he arrived at the cost - I could have asked but didn't. Maybe something they should consider going forward. Overall very happy with the service and experience - I would call them again in the future.

I called Rosedale on a Thursday afternoon when my washing machine wouldn't drain. I spoke with Tom who agreed to come by that same afternoon to determine if the problem was due to a broken pump or a clog. He arrived at my house in about an hour, and found the pump was broken. Thankfully the pump was in stock and he returned the next day, mid-afternoon as promised, to repair the machine. The cost to replace the pump was the same amount as Tom had quoted, and the machine is now working well. I appreciate his willingness to diagnose and repair the problem right away.

Tom, the technician from Rosedale, found that the transformer was bad. He stated that it was caused by a shorted-out pinched wire. Initially, another technician from a different business came out to replace the unit's magnetron. It seems that when the inexperienced technician put the cover back in the unit he pinched the wire. Thus, causing more issues. But, Tom figured them out.
Description of Work: Tom at Rosedale Service brings 42 years of experience with him. I had some rather rare issues with a microwave oven that another service provider could not figure out. Tom easily, capably, and confidently resolved my problems. My microwave is now running like its brand new. This is the only person you should call to avoid further problems with inexperienced technicians.

Returned my call promptly, set the service call at a convenient time and showed up on time. He identified the broken plastic part and attempted to find replacement part with several suppliers. But the manufacturer no longer provides parts for the ice dispensers on our model. He did a good fix and suggested ways to seal the dispenser flap.

Terrible. After we had the second company look at the unit and set a plan to repair it, we decided to call Rosedale. We spoke to the owner and he simply didnt care that is tec didnt do his job. They are refusing to do anything to make this right. Horible people to have in you life lete alone your home.
Description of Work: The service person was very unprofetional. He was not educated on the thermodor ranges. He had no idea what he was looking at. All he seemed to care about was that it was friday and he wanted to be fishing. He very quickly told us that the unit can be repaired and walked out leaving a bill for $95! A few days later, we had another service company come and look at the range. The service rep was very profitient. He diagnosed the problem and found a solution through contacts at the manufacture.

I am sorry that the member was disappointed. When I talked to him, I told him that I would look into the situation and respond. The next morning I talked to the tech to get his side of the story. Craig, as a general matter of conversation and it being a nice day said he would love to be fishing on a day like this. I talked to the Thermador factory techs about the problem and was told by the factory that the damaged part was not replaceable and maybe a hammer could be used to straighten it. This information was relayed to the member. Craig only charged the service call to look at the unit. In deference to appeasing the member, I will send a check for a refund to him. Unfortunately, try as we might, we cannot satisfy everyone. Tom Minshall

We needed our DCS stovetop and oven repaired. It had multiple problems, and a service person from another company had been out to look at it, charged us $50, and then couldn't answer basic questions about how a stove operates. He recommended that we replace well over $1000 worth of parts and then spend hundreds more in labor. It was very clear that he was not operating in our best interest. Fortunately, using Angie's list we found Craig Weller from Rosedale. What a pleasant surprise. He arrived promptly, was able to answer my husband's questions on how a stove/oven works, and fixed the problems. There were several issues, one particularly tricky. He spent 3 hours and charged us $380 which included parts and labor. Craig was very knowledgeable and I would recommend him highly. Now our DCS works great, and it turns out that none of the other repairman's part purchases would have actually fixed the stove. Very, very happy.
Description of Work: DCS stovetop and the oven both were not working - two separate issues. Oven part was replaced; stove was tricky, but between part replacement and the cleaning of a specific part, stove was fixed.

Pretty much covered above. We called Samsung first, but couldn't get any kind of a straight answer about when someone might get around to calling us back, much less coming out. Since the less than 2 year old fridge was off-warranty, we realized we'd be better off calling someone else -- and we were!
Description of Work: Rosedale came out twice to look at our less-than-two year old Samsung refrigerator. The first visit was in May 2011 because the vegetable bins were filling with water which was then freezing, along with the vegetables. That visit cost $185.00. The technician fixed the problem, and also removed our ice-maker, which we don't use, since we know that it's usually ice makers that fail in modern refrigerators. It was the tech's suggestion to remove the ice maker, and it was a great idea that gave us more usable room in the freezer. The problem with water in the bins was completely resolved, which made our fridge fully functional again. The second visit was in June 2011 after a power failure when the electronic display began displaying random, incomplete, codes. There were no codes in the Samsung manual (what's up with that??), and we were foolish not to look up the codes on the Internet, where I hope they are available from the Samsung website. The fridge was actually working fine; the tech came and checked it out and got the display to read correctly again. Ironically, the code, which didn't show properly, was telling us that our ice maker wasn't working after the power outage. No wonder; it had been removed at the first service call, and, in any case, had never been connected, turned on, or used. This 15 minute visit cost $130, which seemed high BUT it may not be; we really don't know what the going rate is, and this probably largely reflects the upfront charge just for coming out. That said, we love Rosedale's accessibility, their honest appraisal of when they can be at the house, and their fast, efficient approach. That kind of good service is hard to find, and we are really happy to know we can count on them in the future. Phone contact was very helpful and professional both times. It's great that they are so conscientious about phone calls. We'll continue to use Rosedale if our Samsung has problems in the future, and we recommend them highly.

I reported the leaking dishwasher problem on a Wednesday as a suspected door seal leak. Apparently this is an unlikely cause. The technician came out the following day and sure enough the leak was from the drain hose which had been crushed and kinked by the installer 3 years prior. The replacement part was ordered and then fitted on the following Monday. Knowledgeable helpful staff and good service. If you can get the machine out, turn off the water and circuit and check the hose yourself fist.

My overall experience with them was fine. They were thorough and didn't dilly dally around. He got everything done very quickly but communication was the only think that was a problem. When I called them, they returned my call back immediately but they had to order a pump. I had to call them back several times in order to find out when they were actually coming. They didn't follow up very well. They were very nice when I called them and they told me what I needed but I was expecting them to return the calls to me but they didn't do. In the big picture of things, it was not a big deal because they did the work well. The only thing I think they need to explain better is their charges.

Called on Tuesday morning to request the service. Committed to Wednesday afternoon and showed up as promised. Diagnosed the problem within 20 minutes. Found the parts at the shop and returned the same day to complete the repair. Very professional and courteous. No concerns about recommending or utilizing again for service. The only reason I gave a B over an A is not having a real comparison to award an A.
Description of Work: Front loading washing machine would not spin. The brushes in the motor were bad. Instead of sticking me with the price of a replacement motor, the technician found the replacement parts in their shop and came back the same day to finish the repair. In addition, the technician found and fixed another problem with base.
