Great service. They were very careful not to track dirt in the house. In fact, the house was probably cleaner when they left than when they arrived. They explained everything and answered all our questions. A few things out of their control caused some delays in this large project but they were great about making everything right and keeping us updated.

The guys showed up without a care about the ash door. They insisted upon a $249 inspection, stating they needed a whole picture of our fireplace system. Ok, so they ran a camera up the flue, got on the roof, looked in the attic, etc. Guess what? Even though we have had the chimney cleaned twice in the last five years, Stovepiper is reporting "dangerous" build up of creosote, our chimney cap is too short, the flue is undersized, etc. (For the uninformed, some creosote is a normal result of burning wood. Deposits on the concave mortar joints are a logical build up site.) Stovepiper can cure all of these ills for the everyday low price of $12,000, by rebuilding a "modern" system - fireplace insert, rebuilt firebox, exhaust liner, and so on. IMHO, they came intending to do nothing about the ash dump door, with every expectation to scare us into a system upgrade. They even "advised" us not to use the fireplace until the repairs were completed. I don't think these guys are sweeps or offer chimney repair - a lot like replacement window sales pitches, their real business is fireplace inserts.
Description of Work: We have a 60 yo house. On the fireplace floor is an "ash dump", a door into which spent ashes can be swept. This feeds into a pit in the basement, which presumedly gets emptied once in a while. The mortar around the edges of the door had loosened up, creating a gap into which embers could fall freely. We had Stovepiper out to either repair the ash dump door or fill it in so that is was no longer an issue.

An Ahren Fire system was installed, and the interior of our chimney reconstructed and lined. It was a difficult project, but Will stuck with it and worked through the issues encountered. We ended up with a beautiful fireplace that works safely and perfectly. We wholeheartedly recommend Stovepiper Chimney Sweep!
Description of Work: After a chimney fire, our entire fireplace/chimney had to be repaired and reconstructed. It presented a particular problem, as it was already a narrow flue and small fire box.

After a chimney fire, we had to have our entire fireplace system replaced. Because our house is over 140 years old, the repair was very complex. Will came out initially and thoroughly examined our chimney and firebox utilizing video equipment. He was then able to develop a plan for replacing our firebox and chimney with an Ahren system. The process was grueling, as our chimney held many unpleasant surprises. But Will persevered and was able to stay within his original estimate, even though he had to change from 7" to 6" steel piping. He explained everything he was doing, cleaned up thoroughly after each day of work and was an absolute gentleman throughout. We will be having him back every year to sweep our beautiful new AhrenFire system. We recommend Will and his company wholeheartedly.

Since this was a historic building and an awkward placing, it took much skill. First, Will did an inspection of the chimney and wrote a report with many pictures, inside and out, of the chimney, showing the required changes. The chimney was too low below the roof line for good draft. It had to be raised 7 feet before the liner could be installed. The chimney was reinforced with rebar, which was something that others did not suggest doing. Before beginning work, Will came out with color samples for the stucco and spoke with the oil burner installers. This communication ensured that the job went smoothly. The mason was respectful of activities in the church and adjoining cemetery. They kept the materials together and neat during the process and cleaned up when it was done. It looks and works great. His price was also the best.
Description of Work: They raised the chimney 7 feet and built a masonry and slate cap, then lined it and attached the oil burner ductwork to the chimney.
