Mark thoroughly checked the attic and explained everything about the insulation. He also made sure no recent wet marks were present and no mold. He explained how insulation is usually not taken out unless mold is present. However, new insulation can be placed on top. His estimate included sealing convective loss penetrations damming front area by access door and reinstalling the existing insulation that was moved for convective loss. Everything else in the attic looked fine. I really appreciate an honest, professional assessment. I have other projects to do at this time that require my immediate attention. But I do expect to hire Green stone energy in the future.

An estimator came over to review the findings of a PECO energy audit. Dutch went over the recommendations with me, and got me a proposal a few days later. The team doing the work showed up on time and were very professional. They placed drop cloths before working inside the house and vacuumed work areas afterwards. They conducted blower tests before and after the work to measure the progress made. Before they left, they went over the work that was done.
Description of Work: Sealed air leaks and spray-foam insulated in the attic and crawl space, vented two bathroom fans that had been improperly vented, insulated the attic access hatch, and caulked windows where needed.

Extremely pleased with everything we received from Green Stone Energy. Everything, from a prompt and fair proposal to timely service appointment. Did not try to oversell us and even recommended not having certain things done as it would not improve the comfort of our home. The work was done extremely well and cleaned up prior to departure. They answered every question and concern we had as well as followed up afterwards to make sure we were pleased. Couldn't be happier with Green Stone and would have to say one of the finest contractors we have ever had working in our home. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone for service.

They arrived when they said they would. spread drop cloths where they would be walking. The owner stopped by to check on the progress. All went well. It took about 8 hours from start to finish. My initial observations are showing a positive improvement in the houses ability to hold temperature which is an increase in overall comfort. It is too early to determine a dollar savings in gas and electric usage. I would recommend and use them again. All were very nice to deal with.
Description of Work: Extra insulation in 2 attics. Sealed off air leaks from living areas into attics, installed air baffles from soffits into attic these provide a path for the air to flow around the extra insulation. Applied mastic to heating ductwork to provide more efficient air flow through HVAC system. Another contractor depressurized the house and took before and after pressure readings to determine the % improvement.

We called in Green Stone Energy after a Peco audit recommendation and had two quotes. One was a bit more involved but also 80% more $$. They answered my many questions and upon recognizing at the start of the project they had forgot to include two small areas in their quote, they included the work itself anyway for the price quoted. The two gentlemen who came to do the work were kind, courteous and of no bother. They kept us informed through out the project and we felt very comfortable the service. I'd recommend Green Stone Energy on a variety of levels but a star also goes to the improvement to our comfort level in the house - that itself is remarkable. Why did we wait so long?

Green Stone Energy did a wonderful job; our house already feels more comfortable! Dutch, Mark, and Andrew were all great to work with. The price was very reasonable (especially with the PECO incentives through the PECO Energy Audit). I would recommend this to anyone; the energy savings will pay for the job in about 5 years, so if you're not planning on moving anytime soon, get an energy audit.

Dutch, Eric and the crew came out to the house to perform the insulation portion of the energy audit that PECO did on our house. They arrived on time and worked continuously until the all the jobs were done. They covered everything and not a spec of insulation was noticed. The work was very professional. I even had an additional piece of insulation work that I needed done, and they handled that too. Since the work, We have noticed a significant increase in efficiency of our heating and cooling of the house. I highly recommend Green Stone energy. Great Job and highly pleased. John and Sue
Description of Work: Gave a very professional detailed proposal of the work to be performed and the cost involved. They preformed the following: Sealed all of the ductwork in the basement, Sealed all of the sill plates in the attic along with any other areas that needed it, Installed 30 baffles along roof area, insulated the skylight in the attic area and blew in six inches of insulation. Vented the two bathroom fans to the outside roof area. On the overhang area in the living room cut an access hole and installed 15 baffles and blew in 6 inches of insulation. Put one coat of tape and spackle on access hole area. This was explained up front. Performed a retest on the air loss before leaving.

From my initial contact with the Green Stone representative I was impressed. His name was Mark. He started off by being punctual and it got only better after that. He was polite, soft spoken, & professional. He was knowledgeable and eager to address my concerns. The day of the work, Mark showed up 30 minutes before his crew to prepare the site. His crew showed up exactly at the appointed hour. The crew was just as impressive. Andrew & Christian were polite and very thorough throughout the day. They wore boot covers and covered our floor to prevent damage. Andrew would explain the process as the day progressed. While performing their duties they were quiet and considerate. Upon completion of the job, they left our house as clean as they found it. When it came time to pay the bill, lo & behold it was exactly what they quoted us. These folks gave me exactly what I paid for. Ludos to Mark, Andrew, & Christian for a job well done.

Dutch (the owner) and Erick (his team) fixed the noise problem that I thought would be very difficult to identify and fix. My bedroom is right above the utility closet downstairs which has the gas hot water heater that has a motor on top of the water heater. Whenever the hot water heater started I could hear the motor and loud metal clanking noise from my bedroom. I contacted Greenstone Energy because I saw that they offer sound remediation. Dutch came and he was able to identify the cause of the noise and a possible solution for it. Dutch wrote up a detailed explanation of the problem and the solution for it. Dutch and Erick came and repaired the problem. I would say the noise problem has improved about 94%. Since the repair I no longer wake up in the middle of the morning when the hot water heater starts and I sleep soundly. I thank Dutch and his team for fixing the problem which I thought may not get fixed.

We had a PECO energy audit and discovered our Cape Cod house was very under-insulated, and we picked Green Stone from PECO's list of recommended insulators. We were very happy with every aspect of Green Stone's work. Dutch explained clearly what needed to be done and why. The men who did the work were pleasant and professional and both workmanship and clean up were top notch. Finally, even though Dutch had underestimated the amount of time the job would take, and the men spent 3 days instead of two days, our final bill was less than the estimate we had agreed to because they discovered that one of the end walls actually had been insulated already. That, of course, we would never have known unless they told us, so kudos for their honesty as well. I would recommend Green Stone Energy to anyone.

They promptly answered my request for a quote for attic insulation. The guy who came to the house was friendly and seemed more than competent. He said that it was a one-day job and that he'd send an estimate in 5-6 days. When I heard nothing, I called, left a message and got a message in return: They were terribly sorry, but were backed up and would try to get the quote to me in another week. I was willing to wait, but 10 days passed and still no response. I have no reason to doubt all the good reviews they get for work that's actually performed. But, people, if you can't handle the work, then don't be running around to people's houses and promising estimates. At the least, if you've made the trip, call in a few days and tell the customer you have no intention of doing this job. Otherwise, the customer's project is delayed by weeks. And it's a big waste of your time, too.

In a nutshell, everything went perfectly well - I only wished all my dealings with contractors went as well in terms of exceeding expectations. I had an energy assessment from the local utility (PECO), and they provided me with a list of contractors that they work with (they do a spot check on contractors afterwards to insure quality). I contacted four contractors on the list, and of the four, Dutch (the owner of Green Stone Energy) provided the most comprehensive proposal (though two of the other contractors gave extremely useful information as well). With most of the other bids, I had to ask a number of questions and do my own research, but with Green Stone, their proposal was extremely extensive and I only had to ask 2-3 clarification questions. In areas where contractors gave conflicting information in their proposal, I went back to PECO for advice, and Green Stone's bid met the bar. At face value, Green Stone's proposal was the most expensive, but, once I broke down the tasks by line item and made adjustments (eg - Green Stone included soffit work, whereas the other bids did not), they actually came in very competitive. What made the final decision for me was when an independent outsider gave Green Stone two thumbs up for extensive proposals, quality of work, and pride/ownership of the work done (they had worked on another project with Green Stone and had the opportunity to observe their work first hand). I also checked with two local contractors to do the same work (not on the PECO list) - they came in lower price, but much less detailed, and gave me less confidence that they could do the job as well as Green Stone. In regards to the actual work, Christian (the Green Stone Energy person who did most of the work) was polite, clean, organized, professional, and did an outstanding job. His associate (Tim), who came on the last day, also did an outstanding job and they were very approachable with answering my questions and taking the time to be sure their work was done right. They did subcontract out the exterior soffit venting (to help with air flow circulation in the attic). I asked for bids from other roofers to be sure I was getting a good deal. The subcontractor roofer (Triple Pine Roofing from Gordonville) did an outstanding job, and cost less than the other roofer bids. Mike worked all day, and did an amazing amount of work in the hot summer heat. (I viewed it as an asset that Green Stone worked closely with a sub-contractor for the soffits - Dutch explained to them what needed to be done and made sure it was coordinated with the work his own people did). Bottom line - great proposal, great service, great people for Green Stone Energy. Two thumbs up.. .
Description of Work: Green Stone Energy performed the following services over a three day period: For the basement overall, they sealed the rim joists throughout the basement with a two part foam. For the crawl space in the basement, they sealed up the rim joists, installed insulation in the crawl space along the walls and added material in the flooring to prevent moisture from forming. Also, most importantly, they cleaned out the debris and removed the old insulation. For the attic, Greenstone installed attic baffles, sealed gaps and openings in the attic, and added additional insulation (specifically blown-in cellulose). They also subcontracted to expand the exterior soffit venting. I checked around with various roofers, and the sub-contractor Green Stone Energy works with came in at an extremely competitive price. Finally, they removed all the old insulation and left everything exactly the way it should be.

After a cold winter with high electric bills, we suspected that our new home had insulation issues. Called Green Stone for an energy audit and Meghan informed us that PECO could do the same audit for much less money. PECO pointed out some areas that needed to be addressed. Because Green Stone was so candid and honest about the audit, I could not imagine calling anyone else to do the work. The owner, Dutch, came out to confirm and explain everything that PECO found. Green Stone's installers were prompt, professional, and courteous. Work was done much more quickly than I thought (less than one day). I was very impressed with everyone at this company. Hopefully, it pays off come winter.

Unbelievable! No really.. Unbelievable...The job was completed so professionally and priced extremely well for what you get. My partner is meticulous with quality and he was shocked by the level of detail, cleanliness and workmanship that went into this project by Dutch and his crew. This was by far the best professional experience we have had of any crew that we have hired for any work we have done to our home. We highly recommend that you contact dutch to evaluate your home. You won't be sorry when you finally do a project that will actually pay you back with the savings you will get.
Description of Work: During a Peco audit, we were made aware of that our attic was completely under insulated, causing our energy bills to be far higher than anyone in the same size/category home.In fact, they are so out of line with a home of our size that we had no choice but to do something as quickly as possible. Dutch came out and gave us a quote for several areas of our home that need correction. We decided to start with our attic, which is the biggest culprit of energy loss in our home. The scope of work was to air seal all areas of the attic, created baffles for the sofitts, sealed the ducts, box and seal recessed lighting, install a fiberglass dam between the plywood deck and the attic floor, vent two bathroom fans to roof flapper, insulate attic hatch and build and install a customized and moveable attic cover that sits over the opening to the pull down stairs and blow in 9" of cellulose insulation.

It went very well! The work was done in December. It cost around sixty five hundred dollars. They insulated my attics. I have a Cape Cod so they had to do both sides of it and break through walls and everything and then they did the band around the basement joist so that air doesn't come in there and go up the wall. I think that was basically it, but that covers quiet a bit. The fellow 'Dutch',who I guess owns the company was an excellent salesman, but he also explains everything. He writes it out so you get five or six pages of what they are going to do and that's what they do, so you can actually see it. Whereas some of the others, they just came in with a list. There was no real explanation. He would actually draw pictures if needed. So he was a very good salesman. The price was right in the middle basically, of the various ones that I looked at.

My house was impossible to regulate in terms of heat. The bedrooms were hot and the kitchen area was freezing. There's not much you can do about the heating ducts in a 60 year old house, so insulation was the logical next step. This was an excellent experience. Dutch was very thorough in his evaluation of my home, suggesting some fixes ... very sensible ones .. that other contractors had not. Even though the bottom line was higher than others, the amount of work provided was much more extensive. Dutch also worked with me on pricing. The proposal broke out every service so that I could pick and choose the ones of highest priority to me. The crew was very good. I've had other work crews who chattered with each other the entire time. These guys WORKED. It was a two day job under difficult circumstances (we lost power for the second day) but there was never a negative comment. I never had trouble communicating with Dutch or the office, either, which is important to me. I am totally pleased with Green Stone and would recommend them to anyone. Since they were here the heat in my old home is much more even. All the leaks from the attic are fixed. The coat closet which leads to the attic used to be as cold as the outside. When I opened the closet door it was like opening a refrigerator. Now it's the same temperature as the house. I expect to see an improvement in my heating bills, but I did this more for comfort. And my comfort level is definately up! After the first day the drafts through the can lights in the kitchen were gone. I originally found Green Stone because they are on the list of recommended PECOconstractors.
Description of Work: Insulated attic including sealing and creating baffles and then blown insulation. Also much custom work including insulating 21 can lights, the drop down attic door, a knee wall, and a skylight. They also used a blower fan to locate leaks on the first floor and caulked.
