Great!
Description of Work: Although we were not the exact match for WCDB, Chris referred us to a wonderful carpenter in the area. He was very professional, listened to what I had to say, and took the time to refer me to a qualified professional. His help was greatly appreciated.

I cannot say enough about the professionalism of West Chester Design Build. Once we agreed upon a start date, they were committed from the very beginning. Each day they were prompt, respectful, courteous and ethical. While such an endeavor can be potentially intrusive, it was clear that they were very conscientious about not disrupting our daily routine. At the end of each workday, they cleaned their work area. The project was completed timely and we are pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: West Chester Design Build, LLC performed a complete remodeling of our unfinished basement. They provided a suggested layout based on our need for a home office, family area, bathroom and storage area. In addition, they coordinated the construction of an egress in the same area.

Overall it was a pleasure working with Chris Payson and West Chester Design/Build. The workers were always courteous and respectful. They were extremely knowledgeable and hard-working. They repeatedly went above and beyond my expectations. I would gladly recommend them to anyone looking for a capable general contractor. Our project was very stressful. There were several changes that were made to the floor plan before and during the construction. Chris Payson and his crew were always very willing to work with me to find the best way to manage the changes. He was very tolerant of my continuous questions and concerns. He addressed all my worries and reassured me that everything was under control. The carpenter on staff, Wesley, was amazing. He is the most skilled worker I have met in a long time. His attention to detail was remarkable. He took pride in his work and wanted to make the best project possible. Of equal skill is the multi-talented Norm (Norbert). He is an expert in plumbing, HVAC, and general carpentry. Unlike most people that claim to be masters of many trades, Norm actually is. I don't think that there is anything he can't do or figure out.Throughout the project I always felt that the quality of the work was exemplary. Even during some frustrating periods, I never doubted that the work was going to get done. The finished basement is gorgeous. I couldn't have asked for a better result. My family now spends most of our free time down there. I would like to thank Chris Payson and the entire West Design/Build team for a job well done. I am going to call them again once we have saved up enough money to have our master bathroom remodeled.
Description of Work: We wanted to remodel our unfinished basement. We contracted West Chester Design/Build to complete the work. We wanted to change the configuration of the steps leading into the basement and make the basement into useable space for the family. The work included rough framing, minor plumbing work, rough electrical work, insulation, drywall installation, painting, flooring installation, finish carpentry work and finish electrical work.

The WCDB response is untrue -misleading and unfactual. You cannot whitewash poor performance. The quality of FINISHED work was good. THAT WAS NEVER DEBATED. It was when faced with the need to go beyond original work - no opportunities were offered by contractor - or prices quoted for the work. Sweet - talk during thE ESTIMATE PHASE - "SO- LONG, JERK" AFTER JOB COMPLETION. ONCE AGAIN - unless you are paying nearly double the costof my project - your treatment - MAY BE shoddy.

Our intentions as a company are not to debate folks such as this online. This former bathroom repair client originally left WCDB a decent review but one that was filled with less than truthful information. We hold the highest level of integrity and quality as a construction team here at WCDB and wanted you to get an accurate picture of the project and our experience with this man. This man has tried repeatedly to hire our team for other projects in his home, but we decline to work for him based on our original experience with him. We assume he feels offended that we will not serve his future needs, he has now taken the approach of trying to bash WCDB online with venom and outright lies. We would be happy to describe in depth the full and true details surrounding our experience with this man to any prospective client that wishes to know.

Chris was very professional and helpful in our design process. We sent bids to multiple contractors with the design that West Chester Design built for us. This design was very helpful in getting accurate responses from the bidders. Ultimately we went with a lower priced bidder.

Most went well. Some parts of tile installation ( grout falling out) had to be repeated and still not satisfasctory. Have had to caulk / plaster and paint bath ceiling as their demolition process was rough on the old drywall. Main critique: could have offered to repair the 'collateral' damage - and quote a rate to do so - since some of the problems - not their fault. But ----the owner Chris seemed more intent on ending a relationship with an unhappy customer - than trhying to make us happy.

Here at West Chester Design/Build LLC. we serve the home improvement needs of a broad range of folks in the area. We take a lot of pride in the strong relationships we forge with our customers not just before or during a project, but most importantly after a project. We very often earn repeat business from our past clients and they love having our team back to do additional projects. Most of the clients we serve are really great people. This gentlemen was not friendly at all and offensive from time of initial estimate/meeting. We never know what we are walking into when we schedule a meeting with a prospective customer. This man seemed to find joy in putting everybody down, through gestures, comments, and overall attitude. We are contractors, so we can handle it. We hope for the best and assume the man was having a bad day and it not always like this. We were wrong. The day we started the project he escorted me to the condo's clubhouse/offices to sign in. Upon entering the condo offices, he was immediately rude and forceful with the nice ladies working there. I had never experienced such a scene, I later went back to apologize to the office staff about this man's conduct earlier and to assure them that I am only his contractor and what he did and said has no connection to me and our company. They were very nice and informed me that he had only lived in the condo for a few months and that they had never met someone before who had made so many enemies in such a short time. They shared multiple horror stories about raw interactions with this man in just the few months he had been a resident. This customer, does not treat people with any kind of respect and dignity. My concern as a business owner was to perform our contracted duty and get my team out of there quickly. I honestly do not think ANY other company would have put up with his behavior, and we were only on site for one week! The project came out beautifully, but this client would never give a full compliment to anybody. We have declined to do any additional projects for this man. We trust our clients and prospective clients understand just what we were dealing with here. West Chester Design / Build is always committed to performing top notch quality with a professional experience, we love our customers and cherish every one of them.

West Chester Build and Design handled all the permits (which was great since our township isn't the easiest to work with) and inspections. The entire project start to finish took about 11 weeks. This was longer than the 6-8 weeks we were initially told. Part of the delay was that the cabinet place ordered the wrong wood, which delayed delivery by 2+ weeks. And since the granite could not be measured until the cabinets were installed, it took an additional 10 days for the granite to arrive. Although the finishes could have been completed during this waiting period, they were not completed until after the granite was installed. I think that was because they had started other jobs, which were probably already scheduled before the cabinet issue took place. So there were about 3 or so weeks we didn't have anyone on site. The workers were very courteous and respectable. They worked hard with minimal breaks. The plumber worked extremely hard and was there in the evening and on weekends. The electrician was great, but he had missed a few items (placed 4 of the electrical for the sconces in the wrong place and forgot to install one altogether) and had to come back to fix and complete. My only real complaint was being surprised with an additional bill towards the end of the project. When we mentioned to Chris early on that we were thinking of adding speaker wire, he said 'no problem, we can do that for you.' Then close the the project's end, long after the speaker wire was installed, we received a bill for an extra $1,200 for installing speaker wire and extra cable/TV lines. The speaker wire alone cost $800. We felt completely blind sided since a fee was never discussed or agreed on, we didn't receive a change order prior to the job being started as indicated in the agreement we signed, and we, ourselves, would never have spent more than $150 in speaker wire. If we had known they would charge us this amount, we would have said 'no thank you' and installed it ourselves. We expressed our dissatisfaction to Chris and he understood our frustration and agreed to absorb some of the cost. It worked out in the end and I appreciated his dedication to client service. Overall, it was great quality work and we would definitely hire them again. We had interviewed 4 different contractors and feel we made the best choice in hiring West Chester Build and Design. We liked the fact that they have their own guys doing much of the work, while other contractors subcontracted everything out adding to their cost. The materials they used were better than builder-grade quality. We loved the thick base boards and door trim. They even dry-walled inside our storage areas, which we had not expected. We are very happy with our new place and are so excited to use it. It was worth the time and cost.
Description of Work: We had our basement finished. This included framing, drywall, installation for the walls as well as the ceiling for soundproofing, electrical, plumbing for a bathroom and wet bar, moving an already existing window, opening the stairs, adding a bar and cabinets, and adding closets and storage rooms. For lighting, they installed recessed lights, pendant lights, sconces, and added wiring for multiple TV/cable outlets, 2-zoned speaker wires, and wiring for under-cabinet lights for when we're ready to install them ourselves. They also installed the cabinets and bar, and finishes such as doorknobs, trim, stair railings, etc. They put us in contact with vendors for cabinets and granite and worked with them throughout the project. They also moved our alarm motion detector to a different wall for us and handled all the necessary permits and inspections for the entire job.

These Customers were great! Project came out perfectly! Just to clarify issue about speaker wire. The customer had requested the morning of electrical wiring if our electrician could install what amounted to two rooms of 5.1 surround sound, plus a 'ZONE-2' option for their outdoor patio area. We were happy perform this last minute change for them and only charge for the extra time and materials our electrician charges us. We are happy to provide a 'change order' for extra work, but in this case time was of the essence and our goal was to give them what they wanted. In the end, this is a very minor issue. We loved working for these folks and hope to serve their home improvement needs for many years to come!

It was a great experience. As we were living in the house during the process, Chris and his workers were very considerate and mindful of the dust and debris, making sure to clean and sweep when needed after a day's work, and shielding off the work area from the living areas. They did an extremely excellent job of transforming our area. It required quite a bit of creativity, as the foyer needed to be remodeled in order to accomodate a real staircase to lead up to the upper bedroom (there was an old staircase that led up to the attic, but was not functional, except for a person to go up and down). And the work with the bedroom itself was amazing, as it turned a relatively dysfunctional attic space into a fabulous large bedroom. Chris took care of all the coordination efforts, whether it was with the town, or with painters, flooring guys, or HVAC guys, so that I had to do minimal management. Overall we could not have been happier with the process and the results.
Description of Work: Transformed upper attic into a master bedroom by adding a large dormer and full bathroom, with closets. In addition, a remodeled entrance-way foyer and new staircase was constructed to lead to the upper bedroom.

Description of Work: When we decided to have our master bathroom remodeled we wanted to get estimates from a few different companies. We have had bad experiences with contractors in the past so I was hesitant to begin this process. When I contacted West Chester Design/Build I received a return email from Chris the next day. He was very pleasant to speak to and very professional. He arrived for the estimate appointment right on time. He listened very closely to what I was hoping to do in the bathroom and gave me additional ideas to think about. About a week later he sent me an email with an estimate along with a few layout design options. He followed up with me a couple of weeks later (it was nice that he did not hound me for a decision) to see what we had decided. The only reason we chose another contractor was that the price was a little over what we were budgeting for the job. I would definitely call them for other jobs that may come up in the future. I really enjoyed dealing with Cris and had a very positive experience.

Everything one would expect from a contractor was evident here. Chris responded quickly to our first inquiry. He immediately grasped what we had in mind and soon provided a detailed proposal at a fair price. He pointed out an Angie’s list discount before I had seen it. We ran into a necessary delay in our funding and Chris was able to arrange his schedule to accommodate our financing. One aspect we greatly appreciated and not always encountered in construction efforts is the right balance between the aesthetic vision of the homeowner and that of the professional. Chris got that exactly right. He consistently conveyed his opinion and taste clearly (which we trusted) while still acknowledging our choices of design, materials, and colors. Fortunately, his artistic sense ruled the day at one critical juncture. The result is a joint project that pleases us a great deal. All details were taken care of expeditiously and conscientiously. Chris was accessible at all times. We will surely use West Chester Design/Build for any future
Description of Work: Chris and his journeymen, Andy (tile layer), Josh (electrician) and Norbert (plumber), all highly skilled, removed the old shower enclosure and wall board and fixtures and installed a new rough-in valve. They put in a moisture barrier and relocated the drain. Travertine wall tile and mosaic flooring was laid and grouted. A new ceiling light was installed. Meanwhile, a new kitchen sink faucet was installed along with a new toilet. When the tile had “cured,” Chris arranged for a local company, C & R glass, to design, build and install a beautiful and reasonably-priced, new shower door. Our decade-old water heater failed during the shower remodel. With basement flooding, Chris found us a reliable plumber, Mattioni, who quickly had the leak under control.

Chris, the owner of the company, gave us the estimate, then started the job on time as promised. They were very flexible in working with our awkward schedule. Chris was great to work with throughout the project. He was available whenever was needed. All of the workers were very clean and professional at all times. It was as if they weren't even there. It was very easy. Any concerns or questions were addressed immediately and options were always made available. This was our first project of this kind and it went very well and Chris offered us many creative ideas that resulted in a beautiful bathroom. We are so pleased with the result and will definitely use West Chester Design and Build again. Can not wait to start on another room.
Description of Work: We had our hall bathroom completely redone. Everything was ripped out down to framing, new moisture resistant drywall put in, new stone tile floor and coving, tile shower and 2 new 1/2 walls with 2 nooks to hide shampoo etc., frameless glass shower door. Also a new toilet and pedestal sink was installed as well as a built in shelf over toilet. New plumbing, fixtures, lighting, built in medicine cabinet and towel bars etc.

It went well. There were weather-related setbacks at the beginning, but things progressed fairly quickly after that. Chris Payson (owner) took care of getting all permits and handled things with the township for variances, etc. The final cost was more than expected, but this was due to us adding on additional projects because we were so impressed with their work. Their estimates were competitively priced and workmanship stellar. We would highly recommend this company and love our 'new' home!
Description of Work: We contracted with West Chester Design/Build to add a master bedroom suite to our existing ranch home. The bedroom was completed with bamboo flooring, vaulted ceiling, detailed hallway ceiling design, two master bedroom walk in closets with a hidden audio/visual component closet built in, and an eyebrow window for natural light in the room. The master bathroom was finished in travertine and includes a countertop with double sinks, 2 shower heads (including a rainhead) with a glass enclosure, jacuzzi corner tub, half wall (finished in stone) for privacy, and various light fixtures. After seeing the quality of the work in the master bedroom addition, we added on a few side projects: bumping up the living room ceiling and expanding the kitchen with new cabinets on one side, granite counters, breakfast bar, and tearing down a half wall to make the kitchen more open. WCD/B also built an unfinished basement under the addition complete with an egress window, central air to the new addition, and an outdoor storage space that is attached to the new part of the house. It was a major remodeling project. Chris Payson (owner) and his sub contractors were wonderful to work with. Communication was fantastic and while the project took a bit longer than expected due to weather and all of the add on's, we are thrilled with the final product.

We tried to schedule the project so none of our contractor's crews would be working up in our hot attic during the summer months. Unfortunately, we had an early hot spell and these guys got stuck with it. But, they were very professional and great workers. The outcome of our raised floor and attic storage area was much better than we planned. They did very nice work.
Description of Work: West Chester Design/Build built-up the floor joists in our attic space. The crew installed new 2 x 4 lumber in an upright position on top of existing joists to create additional depth for sufficient insulation to be blown in and then they installed new plywood flooring over raised area.

Overall it went really well. As with any big job, there were some delays, and unexpected expenses... but since we expected all of those things we weren't worried or upset... Overall, we love the finished product: a fabulous new third floor with two new rooms and a brand new bathroom!
Description of Work: Chris and his crew put on a third floor addition on our house earlier this year. We had to expand to accommodate a new baby on the way.Their team was great. We contacted somebody from Angie's List in regard to the construction of a patio cover. A very nice young man came to the house and looked over our project and talked with us extensively. He took a lot of time but charged us nothing. He was candid with us about what might be required and gave us an idea of the cost in general terms. We ultimately decided to go with an awning rather than the construction since the cost would have been prohibitive for us. We did not have any work done by them but they left us with a positive impression. I would contact them again should we consider anything of that nature in the future.

I contacted West Chester Design/Build to find out if they would be willing to provide me with a quote to just simply frame out my basement. I met with Chris at my home a few days later and went over with him the layout i was looking for. Would definitely use West Chester Design/Build if I had other projects that needed completing.

Overall, the project went very well. I spent more than I had wanted but that was because I upgraded finishes and fixtures that were not a part of the quoted estimate.
Description of Work: Project - 3rd floor master bedroom suite addition. It was a relatively big project. The back half of the roof was raised to accommodate the expansion of a small pitched-roof third floor to a large master bedroom suite with a full master bathroom, walk-in closet and an adjacent office. Chris Payson (Owner of West Chester Design / Build) was very professional as were all of his sub contractors. There was always good communication so there were no big surprises on cost, schedule or any other expectation. Highlights of the project were: Third-floor exterior build out to include framing, new flat roof, new windows, additional floor joists to support the expanded third floor interior master bedroom suite, contemporary all marble bathroom with a 4' x 5' shower (the shower features 3 heads, insets for soap and shampoo, glass wall and door), tray ceiling, ductless central heating and air, 5/8" thick tiger wood hardwood floors, and custom electric inset lighting sconces in the bedroom and the master bath. All necessary mechanicals. Chris managed all of the permits and inspections.

We met Chris through our daughter and so we trusted him to do our work, even though it was our first time using him. His prices are competitive and he can make good suggestions for home improvements if you are interested. He usually does much larger jobs (like building houses) so we were glad he was able to squeeze us in. He really seems willing to take on many different projects and home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Chris was able to build a floor and enclose a patio that only had a roof and transform it into a wonderful enclosed summer room with lots of windows and a bar against the one wall on our second home. He obviously had a lot of experience as the job was done quickly and well! We were very impressed with his expertise. He also suggested putting up some crown moulding in our living/dining area and it looks so great....really made a difference in the ambience of the room.

Overall, the job went well. The guy who runs the company is a really nice guy. Everybody who came to work was clean and professional. They were subcontractors. They did good quality work. They were good.
Description of Work: I used West Chester Design/Build LLC last Saturday to finish my basement. They started the work in November. They finished the bathroom of our workout room.

Ever since West Chester Design/Build. LLC finished our basement, my family has practically lived down there. The job they did far exceeded my expectations and they were very flexible to our schedule. All of the men that came through were very respectful of my family (wife and two small girls ages 2 and 11 months) with the noise levels and the general interaction with them. Most of the work was done while I was at work, but my wife said most times it was like they were not even there. The job was done quickly and to the exact specifications that we wanted. They actually suggested some things that we would not have thought of and put them into place for us. I know exactly who I am going to call if I ever need another addition built onto my house. Check them out at www.westchesterdb.com.
Description of Work: West Chester Design/Build LLC gave me and my family a completely finished basement for an unbeatable price and excellent service. From start to finish it took them only about a month to do. They put up drywall, installation, beautifully decorated columns and a full drywall ceiling. They also built out for us a laundry room in addition to a closet and a roomy storage area with double doors. Our house was just build last year and this is by far the best looking part of the house and our favorite place to hang out as a family. You can check them out at www.westchesterdb.com. I could not recommend this company any more if you need a house built or an addition placed onto an already built house.

The company is terrific. Chris was a nice person and was very professional. My experience with West Chester Design Build overall was wonderful.
Description of Work: I used West Chester Design Build to revamp the kitchen. He replaced the sink, redid the floor, put in a new garbage disposal, and fixed a window. He also did a lot of little work around the kitchen.

We’re prompt, we’re precise, and we’re always here to answer your questions and anticipate your family’s needs as you watch your new space take shape.
