PRO-TECH ELECTRONICS CO

We did not want the service. The previous owner didn't know that and presumed that we did want it so he didn't stop the service until the day of settlement when he made a call to the company to discontinue it. He told us to follow up the next day since all he could do was leave a message, so I called the day after settlement on my cell phone to set up a date for them to come out and uninstall the alarm. We did not receive a call back. Not sure of the reason why. Cell phone reception is not good here but it was all we had since we had yet to set up a landline. We were so busy with other tasks involved in the move we did not think to call this company back. About 2 weeks after the move the alarm started to beep around 11 o clock in the evening. Because we were unfamiliar with the system, we inconvenienced the former owner of our home who was nice enough to come over and disconnect it, but the story doesn't stop there. The next night about 5 AM the alarm goes off stating the battery was low. The same message repeated itself every 5 minutes or so. It was horrible. That morning we called the company about 3 times because my husband wanted to make sure that someone was going to come. About 10:30 AM the owner and another man arrives to finally turn the thing off. They stated that they had returned our call to set up an appointment. I checked my cell phone and found no record of a call from their number. They tried to convince us that the alarm is a good thing to have. We said that we would think about it but we didn't want it right now. We had too many other priorities at the time. My husband then asked if we owed them money. The owner of the company shrugged his shoulders. We assumed that meant NO. We thanked them and they left so we thought it was the end. Two weeks later we received a bill for $129.00 for a 5 minute call. I admit I was not happy when I called Pro Tech to leave a message about the bill. I called the wife of the owner the next day. She maintained that it they did call us back to make an appointment so all of this was our fault and we owed the money. I again went to cell phone to check---nothing from their number. The wife then gives me to the owner who states that our call for help was considered an emergency and that was the cost for that type of call. This WAS NOT explained to us at the time of the call. He also denied that my husband asked him if we owed him money at the time of the call. (I was standing next to my husband when he asked him) He again tried to talk me into service but by that time I didn't trust him. I told him I would have to talk to my husband and the call ended. Over the next 2 weeks my husband made attempts to talk to the owner. He would not take the calls and sent us a registered letter stating his side of the story. We were tired of this nonsense so we just paid them. The whole thing may have been a misunderstanding but this company's passive aggressive business practices and their defensive attitude were unacceptable to us. We cannot give this company a positive referral.
