About us
In business almost 20 years serving the Main Line, Chester County, Delaware County and Montgomery County. Hardwood flooring is our only focus. With our many years of experience, we deliver only top quality work using high durability polyurethanes.
Alpine was wonderful! I had a diswasher leak which damaged a small area of hardwood flooring. I had some contractors out for a quote which said that due to hardwood aging, I would have to replace the hardwood in my entire house, since new hardwood would not match the old hardwood. Alpine told me that they could likely match the old hardwood, so we went with them. They did a spectacular job, perfectly matching the old hardwood such that there is no way to tell where the old hardwood and the new hardwood meet. They were reliable, friendly, and thorough, and were very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend Alpine to anyone needing hardwood work!

They did not stain the floor with the original stain (it was new) that we had provided, which matches the rest of the floors in the entire house. Our entire house has the same hardwood floors since the day it was built. Instead they used something else. The color was much lighter in the end and they said it would darken over time. It has now been almost 2 years... the floors have not held up at all. They are also still much lighter than the rest of the house. The finish is literally chipping and flaking off in hundreds of places on the floors. I sent them a message with pictures and they responded that we need a better fan in the bathroom and to wipe the floors off of all water, that basically this is our fault. I let them know we have had the same floors with the original finish for 20 years with none of these issues. We have it in all our other bathrooms and it is in very good shape. We also installed a very powerful fan when we redid our bathroom and use it every time we shower/bathe. We also do not let water sit on the floor as these are all tongue and groove pine floors with no sub floor, so it will leak into the drywall ceiling below. They will not even come out to look at it... so in less than 2 years the floors are absolutely awful and the rest of the floors at 20 years old look great. Not only did they not do even a decent job, they don't stand behind their work. Please do not use them! we hired them through the good reviews on Angie's List, very disappointing.

They did a beautiful job. I would recommend them. In fact, I did recommend them to the lady who gives me a massage. I know that everybody have the same exact price. I had a lot of questions and I kept calling back. He called back a few minutes later and answered the questions. He was very good about it all.

Mike (the owner) assured me that he could produce a quality product - and he delivered. I examined every inch of the refinished floors, to include under my baseboard heaters, the risers of my steps, and the area adjacent to my shoe moldings. His employees, Don and Steve, were pleasant and exceptionally hard working. I had few minor, and one major repair that had to be addressed. One minor spot was fixed with a small insertion of wood, and Don fixed another problem by replacing a 12 inch long portion of a board. Finally, Don wove boards to fill a 30 inch by four inch hole in the floor (a wall had previously been moved). The repairs were flawless and the refinished floors were beautiful. Don mixed about seven different stains which he applied to the floor to allow us to make an educated selection for the final flooring color. My wife felt one of the replacement boards Don installed was too dark, and Don cheerfully replaced it. Don and Steve vacuumed extensively throughout the project, and they sealed off the work area from the remainder of my home. I was very satisfied with their excellent work. And the kicker – Mike was the cheapest of four bids that I obtained for the job. Mike provided excellent work at an excellent price.

I am shocked to read bad reviews of mike and his team. I have been treated with the utmost professionalism. Mike has been attentive, quick to respond, knowledgable, eager to please, accommodating with timing and I think he has pride of workmanship. Any job of this nature ( floor refinishing) is just messy work that will require touch ups to surrounding paint no matter who does it. I have refurbished three homes and I have only dealt with a handful of true " stand up" professionals and I think Mike is one of those professionals. He has dealt with any problems with complete competence, making sure that I was satisfied with solutions. Our floors look fantastic. I am very pleased with the outcome and with the experience. His crew rotated everyday, but there are only four of them and the are all friendly, accommodating and hardworking. I felt perfectly comfortable with them in my home and also felt like I knew each one. Mike checked in with them everyday and the crew told me directly that any concerns or scheduling goes through mike. Makes sense to me and since mike gets back to me immediately I have no problem with this. Again, I am shocked to read anything had about this company as it is so contrary to my experience. I think they are great and would not hesitate to refer them again and again.

The owner visited us for the estimate, and was prompt and professional. The work was scheduled in a reasonable period of time, and the workers came out on time. They did a good job in trying to limit the amount of dust in the house, and the overall appearance of the floors afterwards was very good. Overall we were pleased with the results, and probably would ask them to come back to do this again. My reservations are as follows: The work was not performed by the owner/operator of Alpine Floors, but by his crew, and the communications between the ownern/operator was less than perfect. I would have liked it if the owner/operator had stopped by to introduce his crew and to get any further directions from the owner of the house, and I would have liked it if he had inspected their final product to ensure a high quality of work had been done. We did have to have some touch-up work done later, and because they had an accident spilling on a stairways, we had to repaint one wall to fix that...which we did ourselves. It was not a perfecft job, and in my opinion could have been better had the owner/operator been better at visiting and supervising his crew and making sure that everything was perfect.

Mike Garito was generally quick to get back to me after I contacted his office (staffed by someone else). We made an appointment for the work about a week after our communication, and his two guys showed up on time and got right to work. They did the sanding and applied the first coat of urethane on the first day, and returned the second day for about 45 minutes to apply the second coat. The floors look good after their work, with the exception of a few spots where, one of his workers told me, sub-surface damage to the wood prevented the sanding from removing discolorations (e.g., due to water damage). While the floors themselves look pretty good, there are two negative results of their work that I noticed after the job: (1) for some reason, they had scraped paint off of door trim in both rooms. I think this was just a result of carelessness while moving around the sanding machine. (2) quite a few drops of urethane on the floor of the hallway outside but near one of the rooms. Again, I think, due to carelessness. I do not need more refinishing of floors, but I'm torn about whether I would hire this company again. They did good work on my floors, but there was some "collateral damage."
Description of Work: Two bedrooms, totaling about 250 s.f., were sanded and two coats of oil-based polyurethane were applied. To match previously-refinished floors, a small section of a hallway outside one of the bedrooms also was refinished.

I found Alpine on Angie's list after hearing about them from a neighbor who used them quite a while ago. Mike was on time, and gave me a reasonable, but not detailed, estimate. The young men who do the actual work were on time, very personable, and left basically no mess at all. Day 1: I came home the evening after the first sanding and first coat and noticed circular whorls - marks on the floor - from the orbital sander. I also found gouges in the floor that had not been there before. I phoned Mike who called back immediately and we set a time to meet the next AM. That morning (Day 2) I went over the floor with him and he first tried to tell me that the circular marks were just from the orbital buffer and would "fill in". I pointed out that my finger nails could go into the wood in these ridges, so it's not just in the varnish coat. He saw the gouges, etc, and said they would fix it all. After seeing what the floor looked like "cleaner" I realized that one of the pieces of wood really needed to be repaired and he said he had some of the old wood and would do it for free. I offered to pay, but he declined. Our discussion went well, he was professional and nice about it and I looked forward to coming home later. Day 2: When I returned later that night (Day 2 of sanding and coating), the gouges were gone but the circular markings were still there - perhaps a little "lighter" in a couple of areas, but still there. They had replaced the floor board. There was some spilled varnish in a few places but I assume that is easy to deal with. I noticed that the floor was still really rough, as well. I left a message and Mike called right back. We set a time for the next morning and he said he'd meet me there with the guys. Day 3: The next morning, 2 young men came - one who said he's worked with Mike for a number of years, and one of the original young workers, but not Mike. I showed them the issues and, once again, was told the circular marks would "fill in". He indicated he'd done more sanding on them, as well. (????you mean the round markings that should "fill in"???) I asked them about the rough wood and they said it would smooth out with the 3rd coat. But when I asked how they were doing 3 coats on the newly-sanded areas (which, if they did all of that would be quite a bit of the floor), he said they did 2 coats on Day 2. When I questioned it, because I have always been told that you had to wait a day between coats, he admitted that usually you do that but they did 2 to catch up. I was unhappy and he said he'd need to talk with Mike. When phoned, Mike was on another job and wouldn't be able to come for another 30 minutes. At that point it was clear that this isn't going to be fixed. I paid them what I think they deserved, and sent them on their way. Now I'm back looking and am finding that many floor refinishers are backed up from Hurricane Sandy. It will probably be some time now before I can get this finished. I have had many hard- and soft-wood floors refinished in several houses and have never seen anything like this. I've never had any problem and certainly never had to go over the floor and point out all the very obvious problems - in fact, in the past it was always the contractors showing me any leftover problems to make sure I understood what was going on (minor things that I probably never would have seen myself (old houses, ya gotta love 'em). I give Alpine my poorest rating.
Description of Work: Two weeks later I am changing this to add that, based on information from the person who is correcting the problems, Alpine "didn't do a bad job on the main sanding" - they just didn't know how to finish the softer wood floor I have. If you have old pine, which is relatively soft, then you can't use an orbital sander for the finishing. It needs to be done partly by hand going with the grain of the wood. I found someone else to finish it correctly and am happy. While I still give Alpine a poor rating, it is possible that they might do a better job on harder wood. I am sad to write this, but Alpine flooring has done a poor job on my floor and I now have to find someone else to come in and fix it. The job is a rather small L-shaped hallway and alcove in my 100-year-old twin (old heart of pine floors that had the original paint on them - no stains, but not in perfect shape). Estimate was for sanding and 3 coats, then put down new 1/4 round floor molding. The floors in these old houses were painted black after they were laid, and after we pulled up the carpet, that's what we found (not sure anyone ever refinished them). The floor was not even and needed a lot of sanding. Not a lot of square footage and too small to use a big drum sander. They had an old belt sander and orbital sander.

I got 3 quotes for the job, and all were extremely close in price. Two of three (including Alpine) said that they would use 3 coats of urethane, and that we could be in the house each evening. The same two would allow us to see the stain on our own floor. The third (clearer inferior) would only do 2 coats, would require us to leave, and wanted us to choose from samples they brought. I chose Alpine because in they seemed best with communications. Mike Garito came to the house as scheduled to quote the job, and explained the process well. He came back with workmen on time, and was very patient as my husband and I waffled about stain color. In the end, we chose to mix two stains, which he was happy to do. The work went well, and was completed as planned. We had some small concerns along the way, and could always reach Mike with questions. We did decide to sleep elsewhere as the fumes were fairly strong, but it was helpful to be able to get in and out of the house each evening. The guys got stain on a couple door frames, but I was not very bothered, and otherwise they were very responsible, and cleaned up after themselves well. In the end, the floor was beautiful - we are delighted with the work.
Description of Work: Hardwood floors in foyer, dining room, powder room and halls were sanded, stained and refinished. Original quarter round was retained and stained. Floors had not previously polyurethaned, so were quite dry and needed a few minor repairs. Mike also worked over a threshold that had rough edges.

All of my questions were answered promptly with a lot of assistance in product selection. Job was scheduled a few weeks in advance and was installed exactly as planned. Overall I am very happy. There was no transition or threshold installed between existing carpet and new hardwood. Some trash was left but not a big deal.

Their price was about half of what other companies bid. They were very good. They were clean and trustworthy. I left them alone in the house for 2 days. They didn't ask us to leave the house; but other companies told that we need to be out of the house for couple of days. These people moved the stuffs from the bathroom and other room by charging additional flooring. They were on time. They did the work that they liked to work on. The guy who was going to come an hour for an estimate, he called to see everything was okay and he was running late. I like when somebody does that. The price was very good. They told they will do touch up in every 2 years and it will be less money. They stand behind their products and others don't provide the same type of maintenance.

I had looked around for a while to find someone who could do a great job at a reasonable price. Alpine was recommended by an architect friend, and I knew instantly when I met Mike (the owner) that this was the company I wanted to work with. He was professional, knowledgeable and very reasonable. Alpine finished the job on time, and beautifully. All of Mike's workers were skilled, professional, and a pleasure to work with. We went through several rounds of figuring out what color stain to finish the floor with, and everyone was very patient with us. They answered our questions and were flexible when we wanted to make changes. We were not living in the house while the work was being done - but we could have because they kept everything as clean as possible. Additionally, communication was great. Mike provided daily updates of what was accomplished during a given day and the plans for the next day. Of all the contractors/vendors that I've worked with during our renovation of our home, Mike and his team were among the very best.

Mike promptly came to the house to provide an estimate. After receiving 2 other estimates, we decided on Alpine and are very happy with the work Mike and his crew provided. The floors are teak, but someone had previously repaired a few of the boards using oak, which had a different color and was not quite flush with the the original boards in a couple of places. Alpine took care to stain the oak to match the teak's natural finish and to even out the floor. The results were to roll back the years, and we now have a beautifully glowing floor. I should also mention that the work was done in good time, the crew were personable and professional, and care was taken to minimize dust. Would definitely use Alpine again.

Our hardwood floors were stained and appeared to have never been refinished. We took up the carpet and called Alpine in for an estimate. Mike came over when he said he would (early even, since he was in the neighborhood), and conscientiously examined the floors before giving the estimate -- which came in well below what we had expected to have to pay. They rearranged their schedule (after a cancellation) to help us have our floors done before the holiday. The two guys who came over to do the work of sanding and repairs (Bill and Dan) were great! They only replaced the boards that absolutely needed it, and repaired all others that were sub-par to look like new. Bill is very knowledgeable and experienced and he was great at taking the time to do the job right, and explain steps along the way for good maintenance and upkeep. They spent most of the first day sanding and repairing, and did three coats of water-based polyurethane (no stain) over two days of work. They made two custom thresholds for us at a very reasonable price. After they were done, we noticed two or three spots that needed some attention. I called and Mike came over the same day to sand out and re-coat the spots that needed repairs. The final bill was consistent with the estimate (+ replaced boards, and custom thresholds). And we felt the work was performed very well, and we couldn't be happier with our new-to-us hardwood floors. We are going to use Alpine again when we tear up the carpets upstairs. We HIGHLY recommend these guys. If the report had an A+++ option, they'd deserve it.

They charged what they had estimated to me. They did a beautiful job. If there were any touch-ups to be done, they showed up promptly to do the touch-ups. Mike, the owner, gave me several options to choose from. They always kept the area cleaned where they worked and left the area cleaned up when they were finished with the job.
