I called Mike in the morning and he was out the same afternoon to fix the broken spring and replace the second one. He was very nice and also professional, explained the situation, was up front with the costs, even gave a discount for the second door. Overall, I was very pleased with his work and the interactions with him. The cost shown was for two doors.
Description of Work: We had a broken torsion spring on the garage door. Decided to replace the spring on a second garage door that was also as old.

His previous repairs were just what I wanted, so I was sad to learn that he was not available for anything other than an estimate due to his medical break until April 2014. I will certainly call him again for future repairs (I need to replace some rollers, and the other door's spring is probably ready to break as well).
Description of Work: Previously repaired garage door spring and panel damage. Estimate on spring only this time. He is on medical break until April 2014.

Mike was great. I would recommend him to anyone. He was on time and very professional. He was very thorough. He came the first time to install the keyless entry and to service the openers. After he did that, he found that I didn't have struts at the tops of the doors and my sensors were not aligned correctly. He came back on July 1 to do those jobs. He also programmed my garage door openers for my cars. You can't go wrong with Mike. Great Service!!
Description of Work: Serviced and inspected the entire garage door system, replaced a missing bolt in the track, installed a keyless entry keypad, installed top struts and remounted/repositioned the sensors to the correct height.

I don't disagree with his basic methodology for straightening the door. But it was silly to yell at the homeowner. He never finished the job. Only one cable was replaced, although I was prepared to pay for both. The upright was more-or-less straightened. (Although both uprights had "dimples" where his vice-grips were used to prevent the door from moving during the work. ) He never plugged in the opener and tested the door. I straightened out the dimples in the uprights. I replaced two wheels that seemed to have excessive play and I lubricated all moving parts. One hinge was slightly bent, probably from the original cable failure. As part of my wheel replacement work, I took it down and straightened it. I mailed him a check for $125 because that was the agreed upon price for replacing the cable. It is now six years later. The door has not fallen down, nor have I had to replace any more wheels, although I do inspect and lubricate them seasonally.
Description of Work: Prior to beginning work, we agreed on a price of $120 to replace a broken garage door cable and another $60 to replace an upright, if it was needed. We inspected the door further. I lifted the door slightly, explaining that it can be raised if necessary. The technician/owner yells at me. Says he is "formulating a plan". He then fabricated a replacement cable from supplies in his truck, mounts the cable, (leaving out the spacers and washers that were in the original), and proceeds to straighten the door. He used a combination of vice-grips and brute force. For instance, vice-grips would be placed on the right side to prevent it from rising, he would then pull up on the left side. Vice-grips were then used to clamp the left side to prevent it from lowering and he would push down on the right. This process was repeated several times until the door was straightened out. Several times he used a hammer and large screwdriver to force un-bend the upright. He checked the spring tension, and seemed somewhat surprised that it did not need further adjustment. At this point, he says the door is unsafe, but that new wheels with longer shafts (for an additional $70) will solve the problem. I inspected the door and ask Would he please explain how that will work. The technician/owner gets angry and says that I "do not trust him". I again asked for an explanation. He angrily states that if i do not agree to install the new wheels, he will have me "sign a liability release" and not charge me anything because he does not want to have anything to do with the job. He then packed up his tools and left, refusing the check i tried to give him for the work done.

I actually had Mike come back and replace the spring on the second door, we talked about it and he said the other spring would probably break within 1-3 years of the first one. Make sure you allocate plenty of time, Mike is very thorough.
Description of Work: The torsion spring on one garage door broke into several pieces leaving the garage door inoperable. I contacted a builder friend of mine that recommended Advance Overhead. Mike responded immediately and spent several hours on the repair. He was extremely thorough, measuring things multiple times and fixing/updating some things that made the door actually work smoother than before. It was a little more money than I initially thought it would be, but considering the time he spent on it, it was a good value.
