Star Penn Pool Service

Within two weeks the plaster discolored so that it looked mottled. An internet search revealed information that the mottling is related to a poor plaster job however, Star Penn was not responsive to my repeated messages and calls and ultimately did nothing. Within months one of the concrete step repairs cracked and a season later the second stair cracked. Now just 2 years after the work was performed the Travertine coping is cracking.

Outrageously expensive. Chemicals that are not necessary are added, customer is charged. Will NOT use again

Annual pool opening cost $400. Star Penn crew sent out to do job - 3 guys. A few days after they left, the pool was greenish, this has happened in other years. We back flushed, added more shock and brush down three times. Found two plugs left in the skimmers!!! Called owner to inform him. Got the retail guy to call me and say this guy "has been in the business for 25 years…" and he's says there is no problem. Doubled checked all the fittings again and returned call to retail pool salesman who says he really doesn't know anything about the pool filters. I asked owner to contact me and explain the situation. Owner says, "Do you want me to send my guys down so you can reprimand them?" No, but how about I inform you about the poor quality of your work and the fact that I paid $400 for an efficient, professional opening and ended up doing three days of work to figure out the problem and get the pool clean. I won't be using these guys again. Hard to find a good pool serviceman!

Star Penn was amazing and I highly recommend them for anything that has to do with your pool. They did an amazing job with our pool. They were courteous and responsive to all my questions and with such a large project, I had many questions. We decided in May to have the pool renovated which is the busiest time of year for pool companies but John still found the time to get out to us, give us and estimate and get the work completed so that we will now be sitting by our beautiful pool to celebrate the 4th of July. John made sure our pool was up and running and even fixed a skimmer that hadn't worked in years. I cannot say enough about this wonderful family owned business. We have always opened/closed our pool ourselves but we have already decided that we will use Star Penn from now on.

The Star Penn team team installed 2 new returns which involved digging a trench for the piping back to the filter, re-piping back at the filter, and drilling new holes into the side of our concrete pool for the new returns. They also plugged up the old returns thereby eliminating all old return piping. Work was done in one day and pool was out of commission (because of lowering and raising water level) for only a week. Water flow around the pool ended up being BETTER than before. However after a week pool was still leaking (though not as much). John came out 2 days later and found a leak in skimmer and repaired it. This was not part of the original job, however he said no charge as he should have found this leak the first time. Star-Penn is the best! They are professional, responsive, respectful of your budget, on time, and do great work. I hope to use them for a more comprehensive renovation (coping and tile) in the future. They have earned my highest recommendation (in over 20 years of pool ownership)!

Received phone call 5 minutes before appointment time and told he had another job to go to. Was told he would call back Monday, didn't call back until Wednesday. Won't use him.

My pool service of 3 years was totally unresponsive when calling...no call back...no response by e-mail. Found Star Penn on Angies List. They returned my call immediately and squeezed me into the schedule next day. Service technicians who came were extremely friendly and courteous....found problem and fixed. Would highly recommend and I will certainly use in the future

We have been using John and Star Penn Pool since moving in to our home 4 years ago. We use them each year to both open and close our pool. They have been consistently top notch each time we have dealt with them. The appointment process is easy for setting the opening and closing. A team of guys pulls up for the scheduled appointment and immediately get to work with the efficiency of a well oiled machine! The cover is removed, folded and placed in storage, pool deck power washed, pool vacuumed, pump and filters reassembled and powered up, initial chemicals added. The guys are very friendly and take time to acknowledge the kids and dog. We received a reminder call on 4/1 that it was time to add the algaecide to the pool. We can't say enough good stuff about John and Star Penn. We will continue to use them and refer them to our friends and neighbors with pools. We do have a pool with a liner, and luckily haven't had to replace it yet, but when we do, they'll get the job. We feel their service is a great value for the price.

They were really good. They are very fast, they did it exactly how long they said it gonna take.

We scheduled an appointment to troubleshoot a leak near the pool's heater, expecting that it was going to be a big problem that couldn't be fixed easily. The crew came out and not only identified two problems that were causing the leak, but then fixed them up promptly. I was pleasantly surprised when he came to the door and said it was fixed, and he was very nice and took the time to explain the problem. I would definitely recommend these guys.

Star Penn Pool Service was wonderful. They charged me a very reasonable amount. I would most definitely use them again in the future.

John responded quickly and looked at the pool and spa. His quote came in within a business day and was competitive. We accepted and he started the next day. they removed our pool cover and folded it nicely and put it in our storage area. His teams of specialists showed up on time and in order and were all pleasant and professional. 6 days later the pool was done and he had the pool filled by tanker same day. He got the filter system working and repaired a cracked line. Workmanship was excellent with precise cuts and patterns on coping and tile. They even added tiles to steps for better marking. We added on a diving board and lighting replacement and he gave us the quote a then got it done. There were only pleasant surprises and no unpleasant surprises. They stayed within the quotes. Their new store front has competitively priced chemicals so it will be convenient to buy them there. He returned to brush the pool and see to it we were happy. We were.

Just excellent! First of all they gave me the best price out of several pool companies. They gave me a price over $1000.00 less than one of them! Then their professionalism was exemplary. They arrived on time, were courteous, cleaned up the area after they were done and did a great job! The cover was custom made and looks and performed beautifully. They could not have been nicer or done a better job- I will stay with them from now on. They are a pleasure to deal with.

Our experience with Star Penn began with John quickly returning a call for an estimate, and coming out to look at the job within 2 days. He spent more time than any of the other companies we spoke with, going through the details of the job, and even talked us out of some items we were looking to have done, in the interest of child safety (despite it being and quot;easy moneyand quot; for him to do the work!). John came out on a Friday; we had a quote on Monday that beat his competitors -- and we felt far more comfortable with him. We agreed to have the work done, and they were able to begin the following Monday. Crews arrived on time, were extremely professional, and respected our property throughout the process. When John initially told us his time estimate for the work, we couldn't believe it -- we expected it to take far longer. His crews were able to meet every target set, and the job was completed less than 3 weeks from when we first met. We now have a great looking new pool and patio for less than we expected, far earlier than planned. We would recommend Star Penn to anyone looking for a reliable, family-run pool service company.

I could not be happier with the professionalism and results that John and Star Penn provided. Before the job, John came out and explained everything to us. As we have talked to many contractors prior to committing to Star Penn, we had a good idea of what we were getting into, so it was very helpful and comforting to hear John explain how he saw the whole job progress. While John and his crew did a lot of the work themselves, they hire subcontractors for the specialty work of tiling and plastering. This is a big positive, because instead of trying to be the expert in everything, he brings in the true experts. Because he works with these subs a lot, they give him good attention, so while we had a day or two waiting for the plasterers to be available, it was not a big deal and John finished the whole job within the window he originally told us. We had a few little hiccups early in the project regarding communications, but John was open with us and we worked through everything amicably. In the end, we have and quot;a new pooland quot; just as John promised and are very happy.

They did a great job. They were referred to me by a student. They took it all the way down to the rebar and built it back up. The put on a new coping and apron.They installed lighting right under the lip of the pool so at night you have constant changing colors in your pool. They removed the diving board because I didn't want it anymore. it's still holding strong. It's an in ground pool. They were great. Any questions I had and any issues they fixed like marks in the concrete and it was fine.

They are great. A local pool supply place recommended two companies to me because I was having issues with the pool tile. Their price was lower and I think they are better. I liked the fact that they answered questions I asked and they made me understand what was going on. I will absolutely continue to use them.

John came out as promised to give us an estimate. he recommended tile distributors in the area so we could pick out our tile and coping. He arrived on time to do the work and the finished on time. His employees are very professional and the pool looks better than I expected. I would recommend John to anyone needing tile work done on their pool.

This was our 3rd year using Star Penn to open the pool. The first year the pool was ready to swim in the day after Star Penn opened the pool, we were very pleased. Last year the pool was in terrible shape after they opened it, green and cloudy for a week before we could swim in it. I was late adding algaecide in the spring last year, so we considered it our fault for the problem. This year the pool was likewise in terrible shape after it was opened, despite me adding algaecide exactly when I was supposed to. The pool was cloudy and unusable for almost 2 weeks. When it finally cleared up, the bottom was filthy and the sides had been sloppily brushed, suggesting that the contracted vacuuming was performed poorly. They brought the pool cover to the basement and left with the basement door wide open. Left the locked gate to the pool wide upon upon leaving. Very unprofessional. Will not use again.

JOHN AND HIS CREW ALWAYS DO AN OUTSTANDING JOB FOR US. THEY ARE WELL PRICED, COURTEOUS AND EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE. IF IT NEEDS FIXING, THEY CAN FIX IT. IT IF NEEDS REPLACING, THEY TELL YOU HONESTLY AND ARE VERY PROMPT IN SEEING TO YOUR NEEDS. IN THE PAST THEY COMPLETELY RENOVATED OUR SWIMMING POOL.
