The whole process was was very painless. Our salesman was very personable and able to answer all of our questions. He explained all aspects of our contract in exactly the detail that we were looking for. He told us exactly what to expect during the install. The installation was very professional and the installer worked with us in the unobtrusive placement of the sensors. The installer explained the system very well. Thus far we are very happy with the system. The home office called last night to check on the sales and installation process and to encourage us to call them every month to test the system.

Guardian installed system in house with pre-existing wiring. John, the salesman was very professional. He explained everything in detail and didn't have high pressure sales tactics. The installation went very smoothly and John stopped by to make sure everything went well. The technician did an excellent job, cleaned up his work after it was done and explained everything. 40$/month is the recurring fee. Might not be the cheapest you can find but competitive price and very high quality work.

We called Guardian to provide an estimate for a comprehensive alarm system. My boyfriend knew exactly what he wanted, and we called Guardian because they are based in Pittsburgh and had good reviews. The consultant arrived on time but was really flustered and overwhelmed when he arrived. Before even introducing himself, he told us that he "knew exactly what [we] need[ed]." He pitched us a very traditional and basic plan. When my boyfriend followed up with questions about how the system worked (whether it was hard wired, used a wireless signal, or was a combination of both, the salesman revealed that he wasn't entirely clear on how the system worked. When we asked about motion detectors instead of just simple magnetic contact points, he simply said, "you don't need that." (We wanted that and subsequently got what we wanted from ADT.) To Guardian's credit, someone from their main office called us a few days later to follow up, since we didn't call to order the service. When we conveyed that we'd be really disappointed with the visit, the lack of options presented, etc. he was very responsive and said that it must have been a training issue, since our salesman didn't know how the system worked. He answered our questions about how the system worked and offered to send a more experienced sales person to our house. We agreed, and we were supposed to receive a phone call in the next few days. They never called. We went with ADT who were great and who offered many options, a less intrusive key pad and a more reasonable monthly rate.

They are a national company. We have been using them for the past three years. We have a regular system installed in our house. The last time that they had to respond to an alarm was when our pet sitter didn’t remember how to put the code in. They were prompt to call and send the police. Things happened as they were supposed to happen. They thought they would be able to install a motion control system for us that would work with our pets, but they didn’t. When they were installing the system they actually drilled through our bathroom shower pan and punctured it. We had to put in a whole new floor in our shower underneath the tile. I've been happy with their monthly service in how they respond when there is an alarm, but the installation was not good. We spend monthly for their services.

Overall I am not happy with the service that I received as a whole from this company over a 3 year time span. They were late everytime they ever came out to provide me with service. They fire alarm that I purchased additionally to protect my pets was not hooked up right and it was not realized until a year after I had the service. Good thing nothing happened to my house or my pets during that time. I was promised a $100 rebate for purchasing close to $300 worth of additional equipment when I had the alarm installed. This was the biggest act I have ever seen to get. Needless to say after months of calling and being redirected to everyone in the company I finally got in touch with a vice president over the marketing division and kept calling until they no longer wanted to talk to me. They then got me a $100 Visa gift card that I had to go by their corporate office in my city to pick up. Very poor customer service. I also had my alarm go off several times by accident and the company never even called for an alarm notice, they claimed that it was the alarm was shut off very quickly so they do not call if it is shut off within 30 seconds of going off or something like that. Either way I know for sure it was longer than their time frame but they also are about the highest on monthly monitoring charges out of all the companies I have dealt with previously. I would never recommend this company to any simply because of the customer service alone. Their technician did not properly install the alarm in the beginning and someone had to come back out to correct the issues. So that is 3 trips just to get the alarm initially working. Their contracts are also 3 years when most places are 1 year to start. I know why they are now. My 3 year contract just ended and I did cancel my service with them. I feel I would be better suited not having any company than having them to do my monitoring.
Description of Work: This company came out to install my alarm system. I did agree to purchase a cardon monoxide and fire alarm as well as the standard system install. When I called I advised them that no one was living in the home and that phone and cable was not connected yet. When they came out to do the install they were late and told me that they could not install and test the alarm with no working phone line so they would have to come back. They also wanted me to sign a contract effective that day even though no service was being provided. Of course, I did not sign the contract. They then came back around a week later when the phone line was installed. They were late again and when I purchased the additional parts I was promised a $100 rebate refund that was for a limited time only.

We initially contacted Guardian for an estimate two years ago to install an alarm system. An estimate was provided but once the sales rep knew we were meeting with other companies he wanted the opportunity to change his quote. As a result we did not use them. This evening they paid us another visit. They did this even though we have a No Soliciting sign on the door. We have two older dogs and a knock on the door or a door bell ring is very disturbing for them. A company that is seeking to provide security should be more forthcoming in their communication and more respectful of the wishes of property owners,

I contacted Kirk Booher with Guardian based on his high marks with AL. Overall my experience was fine, but I have been underwhelmed; the best advice I can give when using them is take nothing for granted and ask lots of questions about what it is you are getting. I contacted Guardian because I wanted to change my existing land-line based alarm system to one that would work exclusively with a cell phone. When I contacted my existing alarm company about this, I was told that the change over would cost about $300, plus an additional monthly fee; this seemed high to me, and I looked for other options. Kirk met me at my home and was on-time for our appointment. I didn't really know what to expect, or whether he'd really need to look around my small home. He really didn't. I started getting a sales pitch, which I guess was fine, but I knew what I wanted so I thought some of the info was overkill. That said, I found out later that there was information that would've been useful that I was never provided. Kirk and Guardian had a very reasonably priced system - especially when the AL coupon was factored in. Therefore I went with Kirk, and even upgraded to a direct-link voice connection to Guardian based on Kirk's explanation of why - if I was cell phone only - that might come in handy (e.g. a false alarm in the middle of the night where my phone wasn't on me). I also added smoke detectors to my existing system. The overall price I was then paying for this was more than what I would've spent with the upgrade from my old alarm company - and this deal came with a contract - but I felt as though I was getting a good value. Kirk told me my options for a payment plan for the monthly monitoring fee, and I agreed to have them bill my credit card. He later asks me for my credit card number, and - only upon my questioning - do I learn that he intended to bill it for the monthly fee AND the $369 installation price as well prior to the installation (I had intended to cut a check for the installation fees). This is one of those things that I think I should've been briefed on; I would have been upset had a nearly $400 charge shown up on my credit card without my knowledge. (I was thinking when I provided him the credit card inforamtion that it would be used for monthly monitoring only, and I would be charged for the install when it actually occurred.) Kirk then tells me that he's starting up his own franchise of Guardian, and therefore, would I mind waiting until he has his own set-up for the install; it doesn't matter to me, so that's what we arrange: installation about three weeks later on a Saturday. The Thursday2 days before the installation, I'm told that there's paper work that Kirk needs, and, gee, he really needs to have it filed on Friday so that the install can happen as planned. Because I can't meet with him to do the paperwork, I was required to do it all electronically with some system that Guardian has. The system worked fine, but with three weeks to figure it out, I found it unprofessional to force me to rush around at the last minute. On the day of installation, Kirk and his installer, Robert show up. Robert is great. However I found more things that led me to question my decision. First, Kirk asks if I have a land line, which at the time I still did. I say yes, he says okay. I ask why, he says they'll need the land line to establish the direct voice link; I remind him that the ONLY reason I'm switching alarm companies is to get rid of my land line. Turns out they then need to order a part that will then work with the cell phone. (Again, 3 weeks lead time.) Secondly, and more minor admittedly, but I found this to be a pattern, Kirk tells me that he's going outside to install the yard sign and the window stickers. I don't WANT window stickers. He didn't ask me, and just assumed that he could put these things on my house. I would have been very upset had he affixed them, and again, I had not been told that was part of the"package." The rest of the install went off fine. However it took every bit of 6 hours on a 1200 sq ft house, in which no door chimes or motion sensors needed to be installed. This was much longer than I anticipated, and longer than the 3-4 hour time frame I was quoted. Also, in order to activate the system and make sure it's working, you have to have a computer with internet access; I was not notified of this in advance. I did have such a set-up at the time, but didn't always, and had to use a work laptop to establish the needed internet connection. I thought this was yet another time where communication was lacking. Finally, Robert returned today to install the missing component to allow the direct voice link system to work (for the last nearly month, I've been without it). I pay very little attention to Robert during this work because I'm comfortable with him from the previous installation. About 1 hour into the eventual 4 hour installation, I walk by him and the alarm panel. There is a new box mounted at eye level on the wall of my dining room in ADDITION to the existing monitoring panel. It is HIDEOUS. I ask him what is going on and find out that the "direct voice link" is another actual physical/visual component to the system! I'm shocked. I was never told this, nor shown any pictures which indicated this was the case. Honestly, right there and then I almost told him to take it out and leave the system as it was. I envisioned the voice link being built into the new panel they installed a month ago, with a speaker built in; I thought it was some technical piece that they were missing that would reside in the basement/tie into the existing box (which was why I wasn't concerned when they were working in the area of the box). As it was, I had him relocate the box to at least group it with the alarm panel so it didn't look like a smoke detector mounted in the middle of my wall at eye level, off centered. There are now three large exposed holes in the wall from where I had them remove it which I will have to patch myself. Plus, I'm now noticing that the newly relocated box (which is a rectangle) is out of level. (While this irritation may be a non-event to some, because I have a small house with no real "entry way" to install this mish-mash of equipment, it therefore is in the living space of my home. So, while this perhaps sounds petty, being "house proud," I was taken aback with this turn of events.) A final note, one of the "benefits" of the system is that it emails you when the system is armed or deactivated. This sounded like a good idea at the sales pitch; in my opinion it is annoying - especially if you come and go or have others in and out. I find that I set the alarm less frequently than my old system just to avoid having to delete four emails telling me that my alarm is on or was on. When I asked the technician if there was a way to change the frquency/events which I was alerted, I was told I could, but he was unable to show me how to change it. Guardian provides a good value for the service it provides, and if you have a large house, or an area that you're willing to sacrifice visually to their equipment, you probably won't have to worry. If you have certain specifications/needs though I would check and then double check to make sure you get the system that you envision.

They were pretty good. It’s been 3 years and I’ve had no issues so far. They came with the building contractor when the deal was signed. It looks like they have waiting contractors for the projects. I didn’t have an option to choose, but they were okay. I don’t know much about the alarm systems. I haven’t interacted with them in any way. They are the service providers for my alarm system. I haven’t called them or approached them for anything. There was nothing that I disliked about them. The system has been working fine for the last 3 years. The quality is very good. I would use them again in the future.

All aspects of Guardian's business process, beginning with my initial contact, was very professional. Everything was completed in a timely and orderly fashion; and all installation work was neat and clean. Never did we feel pressured to purchase anything and every effort was made by Guardian representatives to be sure our needs were met. Thank you Guardian Protection Services.
Description of Work: Upon my request, a Guardian Protection Life Safety Consultant came to our home to provide an assessment of strengths and weaknesses regarding our vulnerability to home burglary. A system design and an estimate of cost was provided for us based on our needs. A price agreement was reached and an appointment was set up for an alarm installation. Shortly thereafter, an alarm system was installed.

They arrived promptly as promised and proceeded to install the additional equipment. They did an excellent job on the installation. After working on the system all day and making several calls to their tech department, they told me that they couldn't make the equipment work and I was stuck with a system that I didn't want with equipment they substituted for what they had originally promised me (to cover up the holes they made in the ceilings). Also, they are charging me a higher monthly cost ($15 additional) than I had previously been paying for monitoring services on a new 2 year contract that I can only break by paying a fee of $20 per month for the remaining period on the 2 year contract. I have been trying to get the initial purchase price resolved for the equipment not provided for 4 months and cannot get an answer from either a local office or the company headquarters. BUYER BEWARE of this company.

They are like a national chain and I think they are the third biggest chain in the country. I went directly to them. I think we pay $500, which is the monthly fee. I worked with someone who arranged for the installation which took place later. I had my system running about 48 hours later. They gave me signs to put up and they talked to me about that as well. Everyone who came to work was great. Their customer service and their follow up on the phone in terms of checking with you to make sure things are working correctly has been superb. Their follow up with you on whether or not their technicians did a good job has been superb too. They were extremely polite. They did everything on time. Their price seemed very fair even though most of the services are pretty much the same. I am very happy with their services. They were really great.
Description of Work: I worked with Guardian Protection Services for having an alarm system installed around August 10th. They came out and evaluated my house. Kirk responded to our inquire about a home security system the day after I called. He came to our home and explained in detail the products and services his company provides. He explained the cost associated with all the hardware and installation and how the system works. We opted for security on all the windows and doors along with a motion detection system with wireless key fobs for both of us. I was most impressed with his knowlege of the industry and also with his companies state of the art security systems and how easy the system is to use. We were able to use a coupon from Angies List that basically paid for a big part of the hardware. There installer was very knowlegable and friendly and made us feel very comfortable with out decision. Even though this was a big investment for our family, I am happy with our decison to choose Guardian.
Description of Work: We were serching for a very reliable and cost competitve company to install a home security system. We had a complete home security system installed. The hardware cost was about 850.00 with all the accessories we selected. With the coupon from Angies list we deducted 200.00 off of the hardware-- the monthly monitoring fee is in addition to the hardware cost, but they are very reasonable and competitive with other companies.

In the end I was stuck in a contract for longer than I wanted (the cancelation fee was more expensive than finishing out the service plan @ $28/month). I was upset that I was sold outdated equipment, lied to by the sales rep and tricked into paying more than originally agreed. On the plus side, when my alarm did go off, they were quick to respond.
Description of Work: I hired Guardian as my alarm system company. They installed an alarm system but then despite the salesman telling me he was going to include certain components, I got billed for them anyway. It then turned out the system they installed became obsolete shortly afterwards and I had to pay (a LOT of $) to replace a part. I also was told I was signing on for a three year contract which turned out to be a five year contract (my fault for not reading the fine print but shame on the salesman for telling me one thing and thrusting something else under my nose to sign!).

The sales presentation was thorough and informative. The actual installation took longer than expected due to cellular connectivity issues. The installer was able to figure it out, but all together installation took about 6 hours over 2 days! I've been very happy with the system thus far.
Description of Work: Home security system installed - basic system with additional windows and key fob purchased.

I contacted Guardian around November 1, 2010 to have some window contacts added to our alarm system. I had to fill out a form on-line to authorize electronic signature on the equipment requisition--had a little trouble with this but a person at Guardian walked me through it. The work was scheduled two weeks after my initial call. The technician arrived on time and was pleasant and professional. I had originally ordered four new window contacts but asked that two more be added after the technician arrived. He said this would be no problem. The work was done efficiently, the system was tested, and an explanation of what was done was provided.
Description of Work: Six window contacts and a wireless receiver were added to an existing security system.
