Excellent. Sales rep came out that day; was well informed; quoted a price @ more than 50% below the existing system contractor. The installation technician was polite, knowledgable, went straight to work and completed the job in a timely fashion. Helped out in locating the wireless glass breakage and motion detectors to the most effective locations. Explained the system before departing. Had a followup call from Guardian today, to ask if all is well and how did they do on their service for us. Answer: Excellent. Our son had used other contractors, but found Guardian to be the best, with quick response on any incident.
Description of Work: Installed new key pads, cell phone BU, wireless glass breakage and motion detectors, to enhance the existing hard wired door and window security system.

The initial installation went as planned. The problems began when the system failed an electrical inspection because it wasn't grounded correctly. After this was corrected i discovered that one of the zones after being activated wasn't reporting to the monitoring station. It required four visits by different technicians to finally correct the problem. I found the level of knowledge and expertise of the people I was dealing with to be severely lacking and was very frustrated in their inability to diagnose and correct the problem.

After a series of daytime break-ins in the neighborhood, it seemed like the right time to get an alarm system. I eventually settled on Guardian and have been very pleased with the service over the past year. The company is responsive, pricing is reasonable and our sales rep (Bruce) has been very helpful with recommendations. The install was done very professionally, including an extra effort to run the power cord through the wall. Both gentlemen (sales rep and installer) have answered follow up questions, provided helpful tips and advice, and even returned to adjust the system when we needed assistance with minor changes.
Description of Work: Guardian installed a wireless alarm system (residential) with 10 entry point sensors, motion sensor, etc, and provides monthly monitoring service.

What Guardian failed to inform me when I signed the contract--and I'm the type of anal-retentive person who reads every word of the contract (in this case I found nothing on the subject, even in the fine print)--was that they require that you re-sign for the entire 3-year period ... even if you move 2.5 years into the contract. They don't allow you to just serve the remainder of your sentence ... er, contract ... you have to start all over again! Additionally, they were going to charge me $400+ for installing equipment in my new home! After the way they treated me over the phone (their customer support is horrible!!!) I refused to pay them a penny more than what I was contractually obligated to ... so I found another alarm company to service my new home. Central Security offered me a great product, customer support that's infinitely superior to Guardian's, at half the price ... and no contract! (I highly recommend them). Since I was not able to get out of my contract with Guardian, I continued paying them $50/ month for a whole year for literally, nothing., no services provided. Finally, with a year left on my contract, I contacted Guardian to let them know I'd lost my job. They told me in essence that they don't give a d***, that's not their problem. They wouldn't budge on the terms of the contract., no matter the circumstances. This is a company with no heart, no integrity, and no customer focus. The home security landscape is changing rapidly. Cable companies like Comcast and Time Warner Cable, and others like AT&T, are all entering the home security business ... as are small mom & pop shops like Central Security. With such increased competition, and customer reviews so readily available, Guardian should care what their customers think about them--even if we are locked into unyielding contracts. I strongly advise you not to contract the services Guardian Protection Services--I wish I hadn't!
Description of Work: I made the mistake of signing a 3-year contract with Guardian, as they would not allow me to take a shorter contract term (they were pressing me to sign a 5-yr contract, which I refused to do). I was shopping for a new home at the time, so I knew I would be moving in the next year or two. Guardian assured me that it would not be a problem to relocate the service to my new home when I was ready to move.

Good. The guy that installed it could have been a little more clear on the training after he installed it. He had an accent and we couldn't understand him and had to ask him to repeat what he was saying and seemed a little annoyed at that.

It sounds like the pitch is a free or inexpensive system. We received a call from Hank Brazil 801-635-4576 offering a free wireless security system for a home we just purchased. He and another representative told us we could have the system monitored by our choice of companies. The first appointment scheduled at our home no showed. The 2nd appointment last night after several hours of walking through our home and taking down our personal information advised us we would need to monitor with your company. We live in an affluent area and were quite concerned about releasing our personal information and then spending several hours without a positive outcome. The company's response was not impressive or adequate.

Recently our old security system broke and we called to see what is new with security systems since ours was at least 10 years old. Unfortunately our small vendor was not able to offer us anything. So we started to shop around from larger to again smaller vendors and we were very impressed with Guardian from the moment the sales person came to our house. We compared prices, service offerings, and the type of system that we would find useful and actually use. Guardian listened to us and developed a system that works for us. The installation went well with no hiccups and it has been 2 weeks and we are very happy. I would highly recommend Guardian.

If they are this rude to potential customers I don't wanna know how poorly their actual customers are treated.
Description of Work: I received two calls in one day from this company. The first call was a robo call with no one on the line. The second call was Benjamin. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I was taught that it is rude to hang up on people. I was trying to inform Benjamin that I am happy with my current alarm service and would appreciate my number being removed from their list when he hung up on me. Now that upsets me. If you are going to call me when I have not requested any service from you then don't hang up on me. I am on the Do Not Call registry and will also be filing a complaint with them. If they are this rude to potential customers I don't wanna know how poorly their actual customers are treated.

I returned home from a vacation on7/17/2013. My security system was beeping and indicated that I had weak batteries in the smoke detector system on the first floor in my home. I received an email from my pet sitters that the smoke detector and my security system were beeping on 7/16. When I got home on the 17th, I called Guardian and finally got the information on what was wrong and information on how to stop the alarm system from going off. I followed their instructions and replaced the batteries in the smoke detector in question. That ow ever did to stop the security system from beeping. I subsequently found out that, when the system continued beeping, that the smoke detector on the 2nd floor in my home was weak as well. I replaced the batteries in that detector as well. The system continued beeping. I called back for the 3rd time and was told that I had not replaced the batteries correctly-- yet the batteries were replaced in both detectors the same way. I was given instructions on how to stop the system from beeping--the solution lasted for 12 hours and them had to be repeated. This has been going on for 5 days now. Today (Sunday).the smoke detectors and system started going off at full alarm. I called Guardian. They could not figure out what is going on over the phone. The alarms went off while I was on the phone with them. After a call with them on Friday, I was set up with an appointment for someone to come to check the system out. I explained at that time that I would be traveling out of town and would not be home until after 2pm on Fri., July 26. I was told that they would call before coming here but would not guarantee a visit after 2pm. When I called again today with the alarms blaring, I nada person who tried to be helpful. He to.d me that he was requesting a priority service call but could not guarantee that I would get a visit and that I would have to be available on their schedule if such a call were approved When I to.d him that I had to be at work, he told me that, if approved, I would need to be available on their schedule. I am going out of town on Tuesday this coming week and cannot depend on a "maybe" visit when I might be available tomorrow. Instead, I demanded that he tell me how to disable the entire security system. The who,e system is now disabled. This company is awful and remains awful. I have submitted a complaint to Angie's List before and am ow submitting another one. This company should be out out of business

It has never been a workable system. They keep telling us that the walls are too thick in our house. We have constantly had their men come here. Last time they were going to charge us $25. I asked why and they waived that fee. They were collecting the money monthly from our checking account. The system has been more annoying than it has been helpful. The system has been disarmed, but they still keep calling saying our windows are open. They call very early in the morning. As early as quarter to 6 or 6.

It is $45 a month and with the coupon I got from Angie’s List, it was a $99 install but it is costing me $380 because of additional equipment I purchased. It is the going rate pretty much. So far, everything has been great. They came in; they were thorough about putting it in and showing me how to use everything. Even the person who came and talked to me about it before they installed it made sure to go over everything, he was probably here for a good hour and a half to two hours, going over it. I have a three-year contract with them.

Agent recommended products for home alarm installation and agreed to give 2 of 7 products for free, but when we signed contract we both forgot to put in the contract. Of course we did not pay attention when signed the contract we're for sure that everything was in it. On the day to install alarm we realized items missing so we call agent again and agent said oops i forgot to put in but it's okay we just send another technician out on another day to install it. Well, after installation alarm didn't work right so we have to call again to get fixed. 3 days later another technician came and also came late, however, it was fixed. After that, we tried to call agent again and again and he kept saying either he needed his manager to approve and manager was out town, or he's very busy. He also promised to upgrade our business alarm system and install new cameras and again nothing has been done nor a telephone call to say I still remember you. Yes we also found out the branch manager was on vacation for real, but wouldn't you think now a day with all the technology in the world he cannot contact the manager at all! We are very upset!
Description of Work: Agent did not do his job like he promised to do. He promised to do home alarm then to business, but now it's like 3 weeks nothing been done. We tried to call him and talked to him and he said he's very busy.

I have been very happy with them. Everytime I have had them come out it has only been $25. They are very responsive. I feel very comfortable having them.

I purchased a new home in 2009. The home came with an alarm system and Guardian contacted me with their relationship with the builder. The alarm was included with the home and I could pick up their service or opt not to get their serivice. I signed up and wound up in a 5 year contract - remember, they provided NO hardware as it came with the house. 3.5 years into the contract I ran into financial problems and started eliminating bills. When it came to theirs they stated I could cancel the contract and would have to pay them $1600 as a balance. They provided nothing but am stuck in a contract. I was informed if I did not pay them they would go after me with collections. So though their service has been acceptable they follow what I feel are improper contracts - Do NOT go with them. There are companies who offer monitoring for less money without contracts if you already have the equipment. I am not endorsing anyone - just warning against their services.
Description of Work: Purchased their SERVICE only when I moved into a new home with an alarm. They provided NO hardware and caught me up in a 5 year contract I cannot get out of....

After being told the tech would be there between 12 and 5pm, and thus taking a half day off from work without pay, the tech called at 5:20 to tell us he would be at our house by 6:30 at the latest. At that point we didn't think he was coming and I had started dinner. Stopped everything and put it all into the refrigerator. He arrived at 6:15 and started by removing the keypad from the wall. As soon as he did he exclaimed, "Well, here's the reason they're not getting a signal . . . an antenna was never installed!" C'mon Guardian. Really? So we've been paying a full monthly fee for a system that doesn't have an antenna. That's just beautiful. The good news is I don't think we were charged anything. We shouldn't have been, that's for sure. We are under contract with Guardian and can't get out of it without a penalty, or we would cancel our service with them. It's a shame this happened, because everyone has been exceptionally nice to deal with. This just really shook our confidence in Guardian. Update: 6/27/2013 Received a very nice follow-up phone call from Bill at Guardian. He apologized for all the confusion and explained that we had to have had an antenna from the beginning, because Guardian had been receiving a signal from our home, except for some intermittent lapses. The tech wrote in his notes that he installed another antenna, which increased the signal. Bill was not sure why the tech told us we had no antenna at all. He also told me the tech was subcontracted from another company and he followed up with them regarding the tech's lateness. Bill reassured us he is checking our signal regularly and that we can contact him directly if we have any problems at all. Thank you Guardian. Your customer service is exceptional, as always.
Description of Work: Guardian contacted us last Friday to alert us that they were not receiving a test signal from our system. We ran another test while on the phone with Guardian and then one more on Saturday morning. When they still were not receiving a signal, they said they would send a tech out on Monday to diagnose the cause. They are always very good about alerting us when they are not receiving a signal. Unfortunately, it has happened several times, which caused us to distrust our system. We've never had to have a tech come out before, because the signal always returned. We were told there would be a $25 charge for wear and tear to the system, or if the tech found damage, the cost would be time and materials. We felt the problem was with the equipment and not our fault (the system is only 8 months old!), so I asked if there could also be no charge. I was told again, "No, it's either $25 or time and materials." My husband told me not to get upset until we heard what the tech had to say.

The salesman was very thorough in assessing our needs and was able to offer an integrated plan using most of our old sensors/contacts as well as newer wireless components that will enhance our security and peace of mind. We established an installation date of May 29th, one day before we were leaving for a 4 day vacation out of state. The installer arrived on schedule and by 5PM that day our system was installed and put into test mode. We departed for our vacation very early on Thursday. We had just landed at Baltimore, when I received a push notification that the fire alarm had triggered. We called Customer service and they confirmed that the smoke sensor had triggered but I was able to check my surveillance cameras (not installed by Guardian) and determined that there was no smoke or fire in the house. Upon returning a few days later and attempting to reset the sensor, we contacted Customer Service again and explained the problem with the smoke/sensor no resetting. They scheduled a technician to visit the following day, and after being unable to reset the zone, he followed the wiring and determined that a staple had penetrated the wiring going to one of the sensors and was causing the false trigger. In moments, the problem was solved. In spite of a scare and slight inconvenience, we are very pleased with the installation and customer service response.
Description of Work: Installed new alarm system to replace an older system. They were able to use most of the "old" sensors/contacts.

We had ADT prior to Guardian and we were paying a lot for nothing. I looked at reviews on Angies List and decided Guardian was the best match. It got off to a shakey start because the tech arrived late. However he knew his product well and was not too salesy which I liked. I called the next day and signed up. The system was installed less than a week later. Overall its been great so far.

I used Guardian since I bought my home in 2001, but recently decided to go with Frontpoint security, which is awesome. Problem is that Guardian after all these years decided that since I was going to change service did not want to assist me with removing the old system from my home. It is a hardwired system that will shut off my landline if I unplug the sensors in the keypad. Not sure how to remove this thing.

We called and asked for a refund for the entire period since NO monitoring services were provided. We thought this was a reasonable request. We were declined and were treated rudely. We ended up purchasing a new system from a new provider and cancelling our service with Guardian at a large expense for a new system. This is our second home so we purchased a system when we built the home to protect our home when we were not there. We have written to Guardian's corporate office (CEO, SVP and VP of Subscriber Services) and are awaiting a response. UPDATE...Issue resolved with Guardian was resolve and a refund was issued.
Description of Work: Guardian Protection Services purchased Scott Alarms 2 years ago. They have charged us for 2 years for service and we found out over the last few months, they never bothered to ensure our service was connected with Guardian. They have collected monthly fees of $24 per month for 2 years with absolutely no protection. Individuals entered our house without the key code and the alarm went off but we were never notified by Guardian. We tried on several occasions to get the connection fixed to no avail. When we talked with Guardian, they advised they had this issue with a number of former Scott clients. So they knowingly collected money without setting us a process to valid services were being provided. Former Scott customers that now have Guardian need to know this. They may not have the protective services they believe they have contracted for - and may be paying a monthly fee for no protection.

It went just fine. They came out and took a look at my house. My house was already prewired so their system was able to connect to the prewiring easily. They gave me a few different options. The sales guy was great and the guy who did the installation had a few problems but was able to call and get everything resolved. So the installation went great too.

The sales person, Steve, was great. No pressure sales just here is what we offer, this is the price, let me know if you are interested. I dealt with another security company which made an offer that was only good for that day. I compared both systems and felt that Guardian offer the same level of security at a better price on installation and contract. The installation was smooth and simple; showed up on time and done on time. Professional service at all levels.
Description of Work: Installed security system with 3 door sensors, 2 motion detectors, and a control panel.

Update: I was contacted by another member of their team who was far more reasonable. We came to an agreement I can live with. I just wish I had spoken to this person sooner. Hopefully this is evidence of future positive dealings.
Description of Work: To make a long story short, I signed up to have a new security system installed and monitoring services provided by Guardian in July 2012. Prior to signing a contract, I specifically discussed with the salesman that we were planning a move to Ohio later in the year and asked what would happen to our services. He assured me that Guardian would install a new system free of charge in our home no matter how many times we moved. As a result of this information I signed the contract and paid approx. $500 to get the system installed. In October of 2012, I contacted Guardian to have a system installed in our new home in Ohio and was told I would have to pay again for the system. I spoke with a customer service manager who basically told me she thought I was lying. What has followed is a series of communications, none of which has resolved my issue. In addition, Guardian has continued to provide monitoring services to a home I don't even own anymore despite being made aware that I no longer needed these services back in October 2012. At this point, I just want out of the contract and to not be charged for monitoring past October 2012. I am willing to eat my initial $500 investment and just want it to be over.

Guardian makes a significant investment when new electronic security hardware is installed and activated in your property. Similar to cellular providers who provide expensive hardware up front, the costs incurred to provide such hardware are recouped over the initial contract period. This is the reason an early termination fee may apply if you wish to cancel prior to the end of the initial contract period. You may opt to remit an early termination fee or continue to pay the normal monthly fee until the end of the contact period, at which time it may be cancelled with no early termination fee. Such contract terms are common throughout many industries including the home security industry. The contract also serves to protect consumers as well, by defining the services to be provided, rates, terms and obligations of each party.
